(1) Htantabin Township to put 81,000 acres under monsoon paddy this year
YANGON, 18 June - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than met chairmen of village/ward Peace and Development Councils and departmental personnel at Htantabin Township Peace and Development Council Office today.
Along Yangon-Nyaungdon Road, the commander inspected pumped-water paddy cultivation and planting of shade trees.
Accompanied by Commander of No.1 Tactical Operation of Yangon Command Col Tin Soe, Secretary of Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint, Chairman of Yangon North District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col San Matu and officials, he arrived at the Htantabin Township Peace and Development Council Office.

(2) Seminar on Monitoring and Evaluation of Progress of the National Health Plan commences
YANGON, 18 June - Seminar on Monitoring and Evaluation of Progress of the National Health Plan commenced at the Department of Health on Theinbyu Street today.
The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minster for Health Dr Mya Oo Chairman of the Committee for Monitoring and Evaluation of Progress of National Health Plan Director-General of Department of Health Dr Kyi Soe, other officials, rectors, Manager of the Project for Cooperation with NGOs Dr Khin Win Shwe, other project managers, State/Division health officers, officials of UN agencies and guests.
Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo delivered the opening address. Next, Resident Representative of WHO Dr Klaus Wagner spoke.

(3) MIC Secretary receives Chief Economic Cooperation Division of Ministry of International Trade and Industry
YANGON, 18 June - Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung received Chief Economic Co-operation Division Mr Koichiro Yokoa and party of Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Japan at his office at 3 pm today.
Present also were officials of the Office of MIC.

(4) Over 15 kilos of opium, 600 amphetamine tablets, cash seized in Phakant
YANGON, 18 June - A combined group including members of Phakant mobile group of Myitkyina Special Anti-Drug Squad, regional Defence Services Intelligence Unit and Phakant Police Station raided the house of Ma Mee Nge (a) Ma Ah Mee, 19, daughter of U Tin Myint, of No.425, Ward 4, Seikmu Village, Phakant Township, at 1:30 pm on 5 June. The authorities seized nine opium packets weighing 15.758 kilos, 600 tablets of WY brand amphetamine and K 449,600 which were packed by plastic bags hidden under ground.
Action is taken against Ma Mee Nge (a) Ma Ah Mee under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Phakant Police Station.

(5) MSc (Nursing) degree (distance) conferred
YANGON, 18 June - A ceremony to confer Master's Degree in Nursing (distance) on 10 graduates, jointly conducted by the Institute of Nursing (Yangon) and the University of Adelaide, Australia, was held at the Annexe of Institute of Nursing on Bogyoke Aung San Road at 2 pm today.
Present were the director-general of the Medical Science Department, directors, rectors and registrars of the institutes under the Medical Science Department, officials of the Directorate of Medical Services of Ministry of Defence, Ambassador of Australia, Resident Representative of the office of WHO, Administrative and Education Board of the Institute of Nursing, heads of departments and guests.
Rector Daw Marlar Maung and Professor Pearson of the University of Adelaide of Australia spoke on the occasion.
Then, Professor Pearson presented certificates of Master's Degree in nursing (distance) to graduates. This is the second time that the University of Adelaide conferred Master's Degree of nursing on 10 graduates.

(6) Myanma Cotton and Sericulture Enterprise opens agricultural refresher course
YANGON, 18 June - An agricultural refresher course was opened at Pyay District Myanma Cotton and Sericulture Enterprise Office in Pyay on 16 June to extend cotton cultivation and production.
It was attended by Course Instructors U Myo Chit and Daw Mya Khin of Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Chairman of Pyay District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Khin Win, Bago Division Manager of Myanma Cotton and Sericulture Enterprise U Win Myint, Township Managers, service personnel and 70 trainees.
Chairman of Pyay District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Khin Win, Bago Division Manager of Myanma Cotton and Sericulture Enterprise U Win Myint explained about the course.
Chairman Lt-Col Khin Win and officials inspected the cotton mill.
The trainees gave a demonstration to 100 members of Ward Peace and Development Council and farmers of Pyay Township cotton training camp.

(7) DAD D-G tours Ayeyawady Division
YANGON, 18 June - Director-General Col Myo Myint of Development Affairs Department over saw development of townships in Ayeyawady Division yesterday.
He spoke of matters relating to assigned duties and discipline, while meeting officials of Hinthada Township Development Committee at the office of the committee yesterday morning and then inspected machinery and warehouses of the township committee.
In Kyonpyaw, he heard reports on development work presented by officials of Township Development Committee and gave instructions. While in Yekyi, he gave instructions on development of the township.
In the evening, the director-general met officials of Pathein Kangyidaunt, Tabaung and Ngapudaw Township Development Committees and gave instructions on development work.

(8) Trainees of Marine Course for New Generation (Mandalay Camp) conclude visit
YANGON, 18 June - Trainees of Tatmadaw (Navy) Marine Course for New Generation (Mandalay Camp), jointly conducted by Union Solidarity and Development Association and Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy), together with in- charge of the camp Lt-Cmdr Saw Aung Naing Thu, Mandalay Division USDA executive U Kyaw, district and township supervisors, went on sightseeing on fourth-day excursion in Yangon at 11 am today. They went shopping at Shanghai Department Store of Theingyizay and visited the shops in Bogyoke Aung San Market and other department stores.
The study group was entertained to diner by Commander of Ayeyawady Naval Region Command Headquarters Commodore Khin Aung and senior naval officers at Thiha Thura Tun Tin Hall of the headquarters at 7 pm yesterday. General Staff Officer (Grade-I) Cmdr Hla Kyi of Ayeyawady Naval Region Command Headquarters and Mandalay Division Union Solidarity and Development Association executive U Kyaw exchanged commemorative pennants.
Then, the trainees in return performed traditional dances.
In the evening, the trainees left here by train for Mandalay and they were seen off at Yangon Central Railway Station by the officials concerned.

(9) Minister inspects Mandalay International Airport Project
YANGON, 18 June - Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, accompanied by Director-General of the Department of Civil Aviation U Win Maung, oversaw implementation of Mandalay International Project yesterday.
They first inspected Mandalay Airport and gave instructions on construction and renovation of the air port, terminal building and its ventilation system and handling and maintenance of X-ray machines.
The minister also told officials concerned to complete extension of the apron as targeted, meeting set standards.
While inspecting Mandalay International Airport Project in TadaU, he instructed officials to complete the project by the end of March next year, to finish inspecting operation of machines before end of this month, to provide supervision for timely arrival or construction materials necessary for completion of the project.
He also spoke of the need to rescrutinize work schedules for timely completion of the projects directed by officials.
After touring the project area, he proceeded to Yadanabon Shipyard, which he inspected and attended the needs.
