(1) Development of a nation can be assessed on cultural standard Outstanding works of doyen artists, sculptors displayed at Myanmar Art and Sculpture Exhibition
YANGON, 12 June - Myanmar Art and Sculpture Exhibition sponsored by Myanmar Traditional Artists and Artisans Asiayon (Central) opened at the National Museum on Pyay Road today.
The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin, Ministers at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Min Thein and Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Minister for Culture U Win Sein, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Ministers at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung and U Than Shwe, diplomats, departmental heads, patrons and EC members of Myanmar Artists and Artisans Asiayon (Central), officials of Myanmar Motion Picture, Thabin and Music Asiayons, doyen artists and sculptors, observers, invited guests and students of the University of Culture.
Joint Secretary of Myanmar Artists and Artisans Asiayon (Central) Associate Professor of Department of Art of the University of Culture U Tin Maung Lwin acted as master of ceremonies.

(2) Minister for Information visits Myanmar Art and Sculpture Exhibition
YANGON, 12 June - Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Managing Director of Printing and Publishing Enterprise U Than Maung, Managing Director of News and Periodicals Enterprise U Tin Kha, Director-General of Information and Public Relations Department Lt-Col Chit Naing and officials, visited Myanmar Art and Sculpture Exhibition sponsored by Myanmar Traditional Artists and Artisans Asiayon (Central) at the National Museum on Pyay Road this morning.
On arrival at the exhibition at 10:30 am, the minister was welcomed by patrons and EC members of Myanmar Artists and Artisans Asiayon (Central), doyen artistes and sculptors.
Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung and party viewed the oils and water-colours paintings of the doyen artists and sculptures of the doyen sculptors on the first and second floors.

(3) Minister inspects Thanlyin Tin Smelting Plant
YANGON, 12 June - Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint inspected production at Thanlyin Tin Smelting Plant this morning. He was accompanied by Managing Director of No.2 Mining Enterprise U Tin Win.
In his meeting with officials there, he lauded them for their efforts to earn money from byproducts, stressing the need to conduct maintenance of machines regularly and to promote staff welfare programmes.
Farming should be carried out as means to contribute to employee welfare funds, he suggested.
The minister inspected building of a two-tons-per-day capacity smelter.
He also inspected a workshop and urged officials to ensure systematic storage of machines.

(4) Donations for MWJA Conference
YANGON, 12 June - Hailing the Second Conference of Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association, well-wishers donated cash at the office of MWJA today.
Today's donations were K 50,000 by member of Mingala Taungnyunt Township WJA U Kyaw Nyunt Yi-Daw Wa Wa Kyaw, K 14,000 by 14 members of Kyauktada Township WJA and K 5,000 by Secretary U Maung Maung Myint Aye (Yaungbyan magazine) of Insein Township WJA.
Chairman of MWJA U Myo Thant (Maung Hsu Shin), Vice-Chairman U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung), Treasurer U Saw Myint and Joint-Secretary Daw Mya Mya Than (Ma Hnin Phwe) accepted the donations and thanked donors.

(5) Extension, upgrading of phone lines stressed
YANGON, 12 June - Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin met officials at Mingaladon Auto-exchange station this morning. Chief Engineer of Yangon Auto-exchange Station of Myanma Post and Telecommunications briefed him on staff organizational set up in maintaining and repairing phone lines in Mingaladon and other areas, capacity of the exchange station, linkage with other exchange stations, plans to install new lines and prevention of breakdowns.
The minister inspected the station and gave suggestions on installation of new lines.
He then inspected work at Mingaladon Township Post Office and stressed the need to work systematically.
At Htaukkyant Microwave Station, he heard a report on systems installed at the station, cellular phone systems and CDMA links presented by Chief Engineer of Trunk Call Station of MPT.
The minister inspected equipment of the station and the tower, urging officials to seek means to upgrade the capacity of cellular phone system and to use solar energy.

(6) Dalla Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association gets new office
YANGON, 12 June - A ceremony to open a new office for Dalla Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association was held at the office on Kyansittha Street, Kamakathwe Ward in Dalla Township this morning.
Present were Chairperson of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Khin Win Shwe and EC members, Chairperson of Supervisory Committee for Yangon Division MCWA Daw Marlar Tint, Chairman of Dalla Township Peace and Development Council U Kyaw Shwe, members of Dalla Township MCWA, Red Cross Society and fire service.
Chairperson Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice Chairperson Dr Khin Win Shwe and Chairperson of Township MCWA Daw Tin Tin Kyu formally opened the new office.
Chairman of Dalla Township Peace and Development Council U Kyaw Shwe explained the new office and Daw Tin Tin Kyu about the activities of township MCWA. Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe explained the association.
Dr Khin Win Shwe presented health journals to Chairperson of Township MCWA Daw Tin Tin Kyu.
Afterwards, those present inspected the new building constructed at a cost over K 890,000.

(7) Mayor lays cornerstone for construction of new modern Sanpya Ngamoeyeik Market
YANGON, 12 June - A ceremony to lay foundation for the construction of new modern Sanpya Ngamoeyeik Market, jointly sponsored by Yangon City Development Committee and Nagani Construction Co Ltd on mutual beneficial basis, was held at the new market site at the junction of Laydaukkan Street and Thanthuma Street in Thin-gangyun Township this morning.
Present were Chairman of YCDC Mayor U Ko Lay, Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Secretary of YCDC Col Myint Aung, Joint secretary U Kyi Win, Committee members U Aung Soe and Col Thaung Wai and heads of department, U Thein Zaw of Nagani Construction Co Ltd and officials.
Then, Mayor U Ko Lay, Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Secretary Col Myint Aung, Joint Secretary U Kyi Win, Committee members U Aung Soe and Col Thaung Wai, heads of Engineering Department U San Tun and U Thein Zaw took the respective place. At the auspicious time, Mayor U Ko Lay placed the treasure casket and inscription of the new market.
Officials then laid the cornerstones in the respective places.
Mayor U Ko Lay showered confetti to mark the success of the ceremony.

(8) Blood, laboratory equipment donated to DSGH
YANGON, 12 June - Hailing Our Three Main National Causes, 50 blood donors led by Secretary U Htay Oo of Maubin Township Mibagonyi Blood Donation Group donated blood for patients at the Defence Services General Hospital at 9 am today. Present also were Commandant of DSGH Col Tin Thein Lwin and officials, writer Professor Dr Daw Tin Win of Institute of Education and donors.
First, U Htay Oo briefed those present on the purpose of the donation. Writer Dr Daw Tin Win then donated laboratory equipment worth K 20,000.
Col Tin Thein Lwin accepted the donation and presented certificate of honour to the donor.
Later, Maj Khin Zaw of the Phathology Department briefed them on facts for donors.

(9) Prize presentation for C-in-C (Navy)Championship Shield Football Tournament
YANGON, 12 June - The prize presentation ceremony of 1998 Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Championship Shield Football Tournament was held at the sports grounds of Ayayawady Naval Region Command Headquarters this evening.
Present also were Commander of Ayeyawady Naval Region Command Headquarters Commodore Khin Aung, Deputy Commander Capt Tha Hsan, Officiating Commander of Naval Flotilla Cmdr San Win, officers and other ranks of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and Yangon Station.
At the final match, Mawrawady Naval Region Command Hq beat Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) 2-1.
After the final match, Commodore Khin Aung, on behalf of the Commander-in- Chief (Navy), and officials presented best player awards for forward, mid-fielder, defence and goalkeeper.
Pvt Win Kyaw Oo of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) won Best Player Award.
Mawrawady Naval Region Command Hq emerged champion in the tournament.

(10) Minister for F&R receives GM of Marubeni
YANGON, 12 June - Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein received General Manager Mr Y Nakamura and party of Marubeni Corporation at his office at 9 am today.
They discussed mutual cooperation in monetary and investment. Present also was Governor U Kyaw Kyaw Maung of the Central Bank of Myanmar.

(11) Improvement of Myanmar track and field sports coordinated
YANGON, 12 June - A coordination meeting on advancement of Myanmar track and field sports was held at the Ministry of Sports this morning.
It was attended by Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sport Brig-Gen Sein Win, the Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department, departmental officials, President of Myanmar Track and Field Federation Lt-Col Ohn Maung Maung and executives and businessmen.
The minister said endeavours are being made for improvement of Myanmar sports
standard and called for collaborative efforts for improvement of Myanmar track
and field sports as in the past. Those present gave suggestions on uplift of
Myanmar sports standard including track and field. The meeting concluded with
remarks by the minister.

(12) Mingaladon Township Court gets new office
YANGON, 12 June - The ceremony for opening of new office for Mingaladon Township Court was held at the office on No.3 Highway in Mingaladon Township this morning.
Present also were Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Attorney-General U Tha Tun, Supreme Court Judges, Deputy Attorney-General, Commander of Mingaladon Station Chairman of District Peace and Development Council, Director-General and directors of Chief Justice's Office, Director-General of Attorney-General's Office, Head of Office and officials of Chief Justice's Office, law officers and judges of division, district and township.
Chief Justice U Aung Toe formally opened the new office. Mingaladon Township Judge explained about the construction of new office' and accepted related documents.
Chief Justice U Aung Toe delivered an address.
Then, the Chief Justice and the Attorney-General inspected the new office.
