YANGON, 31 May - His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Her Majesty Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam, left here this morning by special aircraft after paying a State visit to the Union of Myanmar from 29 to 31 May 1998, at the invitation of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Her Majesty Steri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam and the members of the goodwill delegation were seen off at the Yangon International Airport by Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence services and Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye and wife, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and wife, Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt-Gen Tin Tun and their wives, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw and wife, Myanmar Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam U Than Tun and wife, Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Myanmar TYT Pengiran Dato Paduka Asmalee Ahmad and wife and staff of the Brunei Embassy.
Girl students also saw off the guests chanting friendship slogans and waving miniature flags of the two countries. At 10:15 am, Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing visited Seinle Kantha State House and met His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Her Majesty Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Her Majesty Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam, accompanied by Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing, left the State House in motorcade.
Along University Avenue from Seinle Kantha State House and the route to entrance to the airport, teachers, girl students, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, nurses and people numbering over 10,000 bade farewell to the guests waving miniature flags of the two countries and chanting slogans calling for strengthening mutual friendship and best wishes for well-being of His Majesty, Her Majesty and Her Royal Highness and Senior General Than Shwe and wife.
Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing bade farewell again to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Her Majesty Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Hajah Manam.

(2) Emergence of Tipitaka Sayadaws proves flourishing of Theravada Buddhism in Myanmar 50 Sasana Arzanis honoured after Golden Jubilee Tipitakadhara Selection Exam
YANGON, 31 May - The Golden Jubilee Tipitakadhara Honouring Ceremony and Certificate Presenting Ceremony were held at Maha Pasana Cave, Kaba Aye, this afternoon, attended by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San.

(3) Purchase and milling of paddy discussed
YANGON, 31 May - Coordination meeting between Myanmar Agricultural Produce Trading and State and Division Managers was held at the meeting hall of MAPT this evening, with an address by Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than.
Present were, Deputy Ministers for Commerce Commodore Myo Tint and Col Kyaw Shwe, advisers, the directors-general and managing directors and officials.
The minister discussed fully purchase of paddy, milling, storage and distribution, transport of various beans and pulses and export.

YANGON, 31 May - Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt received nationalities leader of Northern Shan State Special Region 5 U Mahtu Naw and party at his office this morning.
They discussed progress of transport, education, health, energy and development of the region.
Present also were Director-General of Development of Border Areas and National Races Department Col Wunna Maung Lwin, Director-General of Development Affairs Department Col Myo Myint and officials.

(5) Minister for Labour leaves for 86th ILO Conf.
YANGON, 31 May - Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Labour Vice-Admiral Tin Aye left here by air this evening for Switzerland to attend the 86th International Labour Organization Conference to be held from 2 to 18 June in Geneva.
The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye and officials of the Ministry.
The Minister was accompanied by Director-General of Labour Department U Tun Shwe, General Manager (Mann oilfield) of Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise U Hla Min, Vice-President of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry U Hla Tin and Deputy Director-General of Investment and Companies Administration Department Dr Tun Shin.

(6) Ministers tour Mandalay Industrial Zone No.2
YANGON, 31 May - Chairman of Myanmar Industrial Development Committee Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung and Chairman of Myanmar Industrial Development Work Committee Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by officials, arrived at Mandalay yesterday morning.
Accompanied by Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint and Tactical Operation Commander Col Tun Kyi, Minister U Thaung and Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe inspected Mandalay Industrial Zone No.2 in the morning.
They were welcomed there by Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Thein Zaw, Secretary of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Tin Ohn, Chairman of District Peace and Development Council Lt- Col Tin Tun and members of Mandalay City Development Committee.
Lt-Col Tin Ohn briefed the ministers on designation of plots, industries shifted to the zone, assistance provided, construction of roads and streets, arrangements for electricity supply and extending loans of Mandalay Bank branch to industrialists.
Industrialists then requested loans to Seinban industrialists for three years and selling mechanical equipment produced by Ministry of Industry-2. The ministers and the commander looked into the requirements.
Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe gave instructions. Then, the Commander, the Ministers and party inspected plot for the construction of mechanical equipment sale centre by Ministry of Industry-2 in Mandalay Industrial Zone.
Minister U Thaung gave instructions.
Next, the ministers and party inspected Hsinphyudaw Lamp-post Factory, Great Wall Sugar Mill and Mandalay Textile Mill No.2.

(7) ILBC Summer English Course 1998 concludes
YANGON, 31 May - The conclusion ceremony of Summer English Course 1998 of International Language & Business Centre was held at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street this morning.
Present were Daw Khin Than Nwe, wife of Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council, Chairman of Bahan Township Peace and Development Council U Soe Win, officials, course instructors, pupils, parents and guests.
Managing Director of ILBC U Tin Maung Win delivered an opening address. Then, the pupils sang songs and recited poetry in Myanmar, English, Chinese and presented short plays.

(8) Myanmar traditional boat teams win five gold
YANGON, 31 May - Myanmar traditional boat teams won five gold in the World Traditional Invitational Boat Race held in Singapore on 30 and 31 May.
The teams won gold in 22-oar men' s traditional, 12-oar men's traditional, ASEAN traditional Merlion women's traditional and 22-oar men's and women's traditional events.

(9) Myanmar beat Hong Kong 4-0
YANGON, 31 May - Myanmar beat Hong Kong 4-0 in the Group 8 qualifier for VIII Under 16 Asian Soccer Championships held this evening at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna.
Among the spectators were Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Deputy Minister for Electric Power Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, Adviser Col Ngo Ciin Pau and officials of Asian Football Federation.
President of Myanmar Football Federation Officer on Special Duty at the Ministry of Sports Col Thaung Htaik and AFF officials greeted the football players of both teams.
In another match at Aung San Stadium, Japan beat Malaysia 5-0.
