YANGON, 4 Mar - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt supervised preparations for holding the Student Sports Festival in Haka Township, Chin State, developing of Tunzan and Kalay townships and Kabaw region and preservation of ancient cultural heritage in Bagan on 2 and 3 March.
Accompanied by Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Haling, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw Tun, Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung, Deputy Minister for Rail Transportation Thura U Thaung Lwin, Deputy Minister for Electric Power Brig-Gen Maung Maung, officials of State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of departments and officials, the Secretary-1 left here by Tatmadaw aircraft for Kalay on 2 March.
On arrival at Kalay at 9.45 am, the Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander Brig-Gen Soe Win, military and civilian officers, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigade and Tatmadawmen and families.

(2) Government working overtime for progress of all States, Division
YANGON, 4 Mar - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo today attended the inauguration of rural development facilities which are included in Shwenatha Model Village All-round Development Project at the village in Mingaladon Township.

(3) Minister for Transport inspects waterways along Ayeyawady
YANGON, 4 Mar - Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe and officials inspected the waterway between Kyaukmyaung and Mandalay on 1 March.
The minister met regional authorities in Mandalay. He gave instructions on completion of Mandalay International Airport in time, registration of powered boats on the routes of inland waterway, taking action against boats without license, supervision on safety of boats and better waterway.
The minister inspected waterway, passenger and freight transport and Layeindan port in Myingyan.
On 2 March, the minister inspected dredging on Kywede waterway. He arrived at Pakokku where Commander of No 101 LID Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin and Deputy Commander Col Aye Win and officials.
The minister was briefed on development of Pakokku port by officials. He inspected construction of retaining wall on the bank of Shwemothtaw Pagoda.
He went to NyaungU-Bagan port and inspected availability of water and waterway of Anawrahta (Chauk) Bridge and spent the night in Magway.
The minister inspected the ports along the Ayeyawady River. He was briefed on waterway condition of Ayeyawady River and development project by officials of Waterways Department and Inland Water Transport.
The Minister and party proceeded to Nawadei Bridge (Pyay) and inspected signal sogns.

(4) Secretary-2 attends dinner to mark conclusion of 8th Defence Services Medical Conference
YANGON, 4 Mar - A dinner to mark conclusion of the Eight Defence Services Medical Conference was held at the Defence Services Orthopedic and Reconstructive Surgery Hospital yesterday in conjunction with a prize presenting ceremony.
It was attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Abel, Ministers at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung and Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Deputy Minister for Industry-1 Col Than Zin, Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Chairman of Defence Services Medical Research and Development Committee Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, commandants of medical units, professors, medical officers, the participants of the conference, cadets of Defence Services Institute of Medicine and guests.
Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han first extended greetings.
Then, Minister Brig-Gen Abel and Deputy Minister Col Thaik Tun spoke.
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han presented prizes to Deputy Director of Medical Services Col Aung Naing (Aung Ye Naing), National Literary Award (General Knowledge on Applied Science) winner for 1997, Commandant of Defence Services General Hospital Col Tin Thein Lwin, Saddhamma Jotikadaja title recipient of 1997, Professor Maj Kyaw Soe Win of DSGH, recipient of Medal of Outstanding - Performance in Social Field (Grade III), cadet of DSIM Kyaw Myo Tun, first and second prize winner of Golden Jubilee Independence Day Commemorative Essay and Poem Contest, Dr Soe Soe and party who the best medical paper award at the conference and others.

(5) Minister for CPI attends demonstration on HF Automated Data Communication Network
YANGON, 4 March - Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin attended demonstration on HF Automated Data Communication Network at Communications and Postal Training Centre this morning.
Present also were officials of the Directorate of Signals of the Ministry of Defence, Myanmar Police Force and Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications.
Personnel from Racal Co of England briefed those present on HF Automated Data Communication Network with the aid of slides, mechanical instruments, and demonstration on Yangon and Mandalay communication work.
With the use of telephone, fax and computer contact can be made with HF Automated Data Communication Network, and pictures, sounds and facts can be sent to the other side.

(6) SRV Industry Minister visits industrial zones in Dagon A Myothit (South)
YANGON, 4 Mar - The visiting Minister of Industry of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Dr Dang Vu Chu and delegation, currently here at the invitation of Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, visited industrial zones Nos 1 and 2 in Dagon Myothit (South) Township this morning.
Accompanied by Ambassador of SRV Mr Nguyen Dang Khoa, Managing Director of Myanmar Fritz Werner Co Ltd U Than Tun and officials, the minister and delegation first arrived at Industrial Zone No 1 where they were welcomed by Managing Director of Technical Services U Ye Tun, Officials of the Human Settlement and Housing Development Department and the Myanma Industrial Development Bank, officials of Dagon Myothit (South) Industrial Zone Management Committee and industrial entrepreneurs.
Deputy Director of HSHDD U Myint Swe explained to the guests establishment of Dagon Myothit and operation of factories and mills of the industrial zones.
While touring the industrial zones, the guests studied production of melamine, instant noodle and cookies of Rainbow Industry Ltd, packaging services of Zabu Poly Pack Factory and production of plastic materials of Lun Plastic Factory.

(7) Ministers receive Vietnamese Industry Minister and delegation
YANGON, 4 Mar - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin received the visiting Minister of Industry of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Dr Dang Vu Chu and delegation at his office this afternoon.
Also present were heads of departments under the ministry.
Similarly, Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint received the Vietnamese minister and delegation at his office at 2 pm today.
Also present were Deputy Minister U Myint Thein and heads of departments under the ministry.

(8) Minister visits 35th Myanma Gems Emporium
YANGON, 4 Mar - Patron of Myanma Gems Emporium Central Committee Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint inspected the 35th Myanma Gems Emporium being held at Myanma Gems Emporium Hall on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this afternoon.
He cordially met gem merchants there.
A total of 165 gem merchants of 110 foreign companies from seven nations and 109 local gem merchants of 46 companies an attending it.
