(1) Senior General Than Shwe previews 35th Myanma Gems Emporium

YANGON, 1 Mar - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe previewed the 35th Myanma Gems Emporium this evening.

The Senior General, accompanied by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, on arrival at Myanma Gems Hall on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road, was welcomed by Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein Commander-in-Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt-Gen Tin Tuns Ministers, senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence, members of Emporium Central Committee and officials.

Senior General Than Shwe and party inspected jewellery of Myanmar-VES Joint Venture Co Ltd, cut gem and jade pieces to be sold at fixed prices, jewellery and jade figurines, private gem shops, environs of the hall and uncut jade plus gem and pearl lost on the top floor.

They were conducted round by Patron of the 35th Myanma Gems Emporium Central Committee Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Chairman of Central Committee Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein, Secretary Managing Director of Myanma Gems Enterprise U Khin Oo and officials.

(2) Secretary-1 inspected storing of Myanmar translation of Tipitakat on laser discs (CD ROM)

YANGON, 1 Mar - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected storing of Myanmar translation of Tipitakat on laser discs (CD ROM), renovation of Maha Pasana Cave, renovation of Pitakat Taiktaw, cleaning of its environs and renovation of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University and looked into the requirements this afternoon.

Accompanied by officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt arrived at Wizaya Mingala Dhamma Thabin, Kaba Aye, at 1 pm.

They were welcomed by Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Deputy Minister U Aung Khin, heads of departments and officials.

The Secretary-l inspected storing Myanmar translation of Tipitakat on laser discs (CD ROM).

Chairperson of Yangon Division Cooperative Stores Syndicate Daw Wa Wa Tun briefed the Secretary-1 on storing Myanmar translation of Tipitakat on laser discs and arrangements for circulation of laser discs.

The laser discs of Myanmar translation of Tipitakat can last between 60 and 100 years and 29 books of Myanmar translation, over 27,000 pages can be stored on two laser discs.

Then, the Secretary-l inspected renovation of Maha Pasana Cave and greening of its environs.

He also inspected preservation of palm-leaf manuscripts at Pitakat Taiktaw, renovation of Kanbawza, Laos, Thailand and Sri Lanka Halls and training hall where officials of Myanmar Inforithm briefed the Secretary-1 on arrangements for distribution of laser discs.

The Secretary-l also inspected renovation of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary.

(3) Secretary-l accepts K 10 million for construction of two lion statues at Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON, 1 Mar - Patron of Leading Committee for All-round Renovation of the Shwedagon Pagoda Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected renovation and construction work at the Shwedagon Pagoda this morning.

Accompanied by Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein and officials, the Secretary-1 arrived the reception hall at western stairway of the pagoda at 9.30 am. They were welcomed there by Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Chairman of Leading Committee for All-round Renovation of the Shwedagon Pagoda Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, heads of departments and member of Board of Trustees.

First, Chairman of Construction Committee for two lion statues in Western Stairway Commander of No 3 Military Region Col Saw Hla Min explained the donation.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt accepted the donations K 10 million, donated by U Kyaw Myint and brother (Paing Soe Co ) for the construction of two lion statues at Western Stairway of the Pagoda and presented a certificate of honour.

The Secretary-1 looked into the construction of two lion statues and inspected arrangement for the construction.

He also inspected renovation of Sasanika buildings on the platform of the pagoda and Northern Stairway.

(4) News briefing on timely arrest of terrorists by security forces, NLD's involvement in apprehended terrorists and subversive acts, and Daw Suu Kyi's personal bodyguards of NLD youths to be members of insurgent group

YANGON, 1 Mar - The Information Committee of the State Peace and Development Council held a news briefing on timely arrest of Ko Thein (a) Thein Tun and terrorists sent by ABSDF insurgent group to commit terrorist acts in Yangon and other towns by security forces, National League for Democracy's involvement in apprehended terrorists and subversive acts and finding of Daw Suu Kyi's personal bodyguards of NLD youths to be members of ABSDF insurgents at the meeting hall of Myanma Radio and Television on Pyay Road this morning.

Also present were members of the Information Committee Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Deputy Ministers for Education Dr Than Nyunt and Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Deputy Chief of Office of Strategic Studies Deputy Director of Defence Services Intelligence Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, Director- General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, local newsmen and foreign correspondents, and guests.

Local and foreign newsmen observed photos of those involved in terrorist acts and agitation together with ABSDF insurgents group and BCP-UG, seized explosives and documents, agitative anti-government pamphlets distributed as propaganda and terrorist acts in collaboration with ABSDF insurgent group and BCP-UG, explosives seized from Myint Han (a) Mya Han and Ko Thein (a) Thein Tun, books and other evidence seized from Aung Tun and Ko Thein (a) Thein Tun and those seized from Shwethein Dhamma Theingi Kyaung and videotapes.

(5) Ministry of Industry-2 holds third four-monthly coord meeting

YANGON, 1 Mar - The third four-monthly coordination meeting of the Ministry of Industry-2 was held at No S Industry (Nyaungchayhtauk), Padaung Township, Pyay District, on 28 February. It was attended by Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Deputy Minister U Thein Tun, managing directors, directors, factory managers and officials.

In his address, Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe made an assessment on the accomplishments of tasks and spoke of laying down programmes on production services for the first four months, utilization of funds, power supply, systematic use of fuel oil and innovations.

Departmental heads presented sector-wise reports, followed by a general round of discussions.

(6) Minister visits EENT Hospital, YGH

YANGON, 1 Mar - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein and officials visited Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital this afternoon.

The minister was welcomed by Director-General of Medical Science Department Dr Kyaw Myint, Rector of Institute of Medicine-1 Dr Myo Myint, Acting Medical Superintendent Dr Than Aung and officials.

The minister gave instructions on eye treatment, medical education and health education. He of served modern equipment for eye treatment.

The minister went to new General Hospital where he met patient U San Aung who received kidney transplant and Ko Phyo Wai Aung, his donor son.

U San Aung and his son are in good health.
