New office for Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association opens

Yangon, 10 Feb- A ceremony to open new office for Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association was held at the corner of Waizayanta Road and Thanthuma Road near Thuwunna Bridge in Thingangyun Township this afternoon, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Also present were the ministers, the deputy ministers, the vice-mayor, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of departments, Chairman of MCEA and construction entrepreneurs. Director-General of Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development U Arnt Kyaw and Chairman of MCEA Agga Maha Thiri Manijotadhara U Khin Shwe formally opened the new office.

The Secretary-1 formally unveiled the stone inscription of the office. The Secretary-1 and party inspected the office. Chairman of MCEA Agga Maha Thiri Manijotadhara U Khin Shwe reported on the objectives for construction of the office and entrepreneurs' participation in religion, education, health, agriculture and livestock breeding under the leadership of the government. The Secretary-1 said the government has introduced and implemented reforms in political, economic and social sectors since 1988 for emergence of a modern developed nation. By doing so, it also made efforts for turning out national entrepreneurs in the economic sector and for uplift of national economic life in cooperation with them. Firstly, Yangon was renovated to possess the characteristics of a capital and then national construction entrepreneurs emerged with the assistance of the government, he said.

With the help of the government the housing projects of national construction entrepreneurs were implemented and Yangon developed as a modern city. Later, for those who did not have houses of their own in Yangon, Dagon Myothit and Hlinethaya Myothit were established; the hut-to-apartment scheme was implemented; housing complexes were built at the strategic places of the city; these tasks were jointly undertaken by the government and national construction entrepreneurs. So, construction work has made progress. In 1997, due to the repercussion of the South-East Asian economic crisis, construction activities became sluggish.

The government provided assistance for national construction entrepreneurs so that they could carry out agriculture, livestock breeding work and other production work. The national construction entrepreneurs have thus participated in the economic sector of the State. It can now be seen that they are taking part in construction of the Union Highway. Today the economy of the nation is picking up, and construction activities are also making progress. The property prices are also on the increase again.

Therefore, the government set up the city housing project supervisory committee in order to help workers, employees and retired persons solve their housing problem. The committee, in cooperation with construction entrepreneurs, is keeping house and land prices stable and making arrangements to enable the people to have houses of their own at reasonable prices. If construction entrepreneurs follow the instructions of the committee, not only the State but also the people and the construction entrepreneurs themselves will get benefits.

It is believed that as a modern and grand building for Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association has emerged, construction entrepreneurs will be able to cooperate in serving the interests of the State and the people as well as their own. In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urged all to work in unity for the realization of the aims of the State and adopt the attitude that not only the city housing project supervisory committee but also construction entrepreneurs are responsible for the progress of construction activities and for enabling people to have houses of their own at reasonable prices. Chairman of MCEA U Khin Shwe presented gifts to those who took charge of construction of the building.
