(1) Secretary-1 receives PRC goodwill delegation

YANGON, 27 Jan. - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt received the visiting goodwill delegation led by Mr Cai Wu of CAFIU of the People's Republic of China at the invitation of the Union Solidarity and Development Association at the Ministry of Defence at 4 p.m. today. Also present at the call were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen. Khin Maung, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Director-General of the Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet and Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Union of Myanmar Mr Li Jinjun.

Secretary-1 attends ceremonies to commence Yangon-Mandalay Highway upgrading and extension
project

YANGON, 27 Jan.- Chairman of Central Committee for Ensuring Secure and Smooth Transport Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt and party, accompanied by Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander Brig-Gen. Aung Min, left Thonze Dam in Thayawady Township, where they attended the opening ceremony of the dam, on 26 January morning, and arrived at the construction site of Yangon-Mandalay Highway upgrading and extension project being undertaken by Dagon International Ltd near Hsatthwa Village, Yedashe Township, Bago Division, at
11.45 am.

At the briefing hall, Chairman of Dagon International Ltd U Win Aung reported on preliminary
engineering work of 48 miles long Yedashe-Pyinmana road section between mile posts 194/0 and 242/0, the chosen axis, earth work, stockpile of gravel and heavy machinery. Commander Brig-Gen. Aung Min gave a supplementary report. Then, the Secretary-1 attended to the needs and gave instructions on construction work to be carried out meeting the set standard. A ceremony to launch the tasks of Yedashe- Pyinmana road section of Yangon-Mandalay Highway upgrading and extension project was held at the work site of the project, attended by Secretary-1 Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt.

Also present were member of the State Peace and Development Council Maj-Gen. Khin Maung Than of the Ministry of Defence, Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander Brig- Gen. Aung Min, the ministers, the Chief of Staff (Navy), the Chief of Staff (Air), the deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads, local authorities, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades, Maternal and Child Welfare Association, dance troupes, the chairman of Dagon International Ltd and members of the Board of Directors, staff and local people.

opened the ceremony. Then, the Secretary-1 unveiled the signboard put up in commemoration of the
ceremony to launch the project. After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party inspected tasks being undertaken for the road section and heavy machinery. Next, the Secretary-1 and party attended the launching ceremony of the tasks of Zeyawady-Yedashe road section between mile posts 146/0 and 194/0 to be undertaken by Kanbawza Pathfinder Industries Ltd, near Hinngokpin Village, Oktwin Township.

Also present were local authorities, departmental personnel, USDA members, social organizations, the band and dance troupes, Chairman of Kanbawza Pathfinder Industries Ltd U Aung Ko Win and members of the Board of Directors, staff and local people. Commander Brig-Gen. Aung Min and Chairman of Kanbawza Pathfinder Industries Ltd U Aung Ko Win formally opened the ceremony.

 The Secretary-1 unveiled the stone inscription for starting the tasks of Zeyawady-Yedashe road section. After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party inspected heavy machinery of the work. At the briefing hall, Project Director U Ba Tun of Kanbawza Pathfinder Industries Ltd reported to the Secretary-1 on preliminary engineering work of the road section, earth, the chosen axis, heavy machinery and stockpile of gravel and arrangements for the first and the second phase to be undertaken. The Secretary-1 fulfilled the requirements.

He called for undertaking of road work in accord with the set standard, continuous working during
monsoon, construction of traffic islands, planting of trees and making arrangements for driving. The
Secretary-1 and party went to the site of the Yangon-Mandalay Union Highway extension project of
Olympic Highway Public Co. Ltd near Kyeemanoe Village in Phyu Township. At the briefing hall,
Chairman of Olympic Co. Ltd and Olympic Highway Public Co. Ltd U Aik Tun and Project Manager U Ye Myint reported on preliminary engineering works for extension of 48-mile  Nyaunglebin-Zeyawady  Road section, earth work, stockpile of machinery and gravel, condition of existing road sections to be undertaken by the company, condition of major bridges and construction of detour roads.

The Secretary-1 fulfilled the requirements and gave instructions. A ceremony to upgrade Nyaunglebin- Zeyawady Road section of the Yangon-Mandalay Union Highway extension project was held at the site. Present were Secretary-1 Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt and party, members of District and Township Peace and Development Councils, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, social  associations, band troupes and pom pom dance troupes, the Chairman of Olympic Co. Ltd and Olympic Highway Public Co. Ltd and directors, staff and local people.

inscription to mark upgrading of Nyaunglebin-Zeyawady Road section. The Secretary-1 inspected the machinery. The Secretary-1 and party attended the ceremony to upgrade Bago-Nyaunglebin road  section from mile post 50/0 to 98/0 near Wanbe-in Village, Bago Township.

The road section is to be undertaken by Shwe Thanlwin Highway Co. Ltd. Present were members of District and Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental personnel, members of USDA,  band troupes and pom pom dance troupes, Chairman of Olympic Co. Ltd and Olympic Highway Public  Co. Ltd, Shwe Thanlwin Highway Co. Ltd, staff and local people. Commander Brig-Gen. Aung Min,  Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe, Patron of Shwe Thanlwin Co. U Thein Win and Daw Ni  formally opened the ceremony. The Secretary-1 and party released pigeons to mark the ceremony. The  Secretary-1 and party inspected paving of tar with the use of machinery.

The Secretary-1 formally unveiled the stone plaque to mark the upgrading of Bago-Nyaunglebin Road section. Chairman of Shwe Thanlwin Co. U Kyaw Win and Managing Director of Shwe Thanlwin Highway Co. Ltd U Zaw Win Tun reported on preliminary engineering work for upgrading of 48-mile Bago-Nyaunglebin Road, designing of road, stockpile of gravel and machinery and arrangements of upgrading of road by three phases. On completion of the road, the Bago-Nyaunglebin Road will become a four-lane highway.

Commander Brig-Gen. Aung Min, Deputy Minister U Tint Swe and officials reported on arrangements for construction of detour road and Bago River Bridge. The Secretary-1 spoke on construction of the road in accord with set standard, completion of works before monsoon, emergence of new roads and construction of road based on axis. The Secretary-1 and party arrived back here yesterday evening.


(2) Secretary-1 inspects all-round construction tasks of Mindhamma Hill

YANGON, 27 Jan.-Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt
accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office this morning arrived at
Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township where the Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image is kept.

The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed there by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen. Myint Swe and officials, experts and members of the pagoda Board of Trustees.

First, the Secretary-1 and party paid obeisance to the image.

Then, the Secretary-1 inspected progress of construction work of religious edifices and Mindhamma
Garden and gave necessary instructions. Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party proceeded to the white elephant garden near the Mindhamma Hill.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected taking care of the white elephant, construction of white elephant house and waterfall. The Secretary-1 gave necessary instructions and left there later in the morning.

Opening of Myanmar Maritime University coodinated

YANGON, 27 Jan.- A coordination meeting on opening of Myanmar Maritime University was held at the meeting hall of the Institute of Marine Technology on Bayintnaung Road this morning, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen. Khin Nyunt. Also present were Chairman of the Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Brig-Gen. Myint Swe, the ministers, the Chief of Staff (Navy), the deputy ministers, the vice- mayor, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of departments and officials.

The Secretary-1 said sub-committees are to report on selection and training of faculty members for
establishment of Myanmar Maritime University, construction of buildings and supply of teaching aids and books and other related matters. Minister for Transport Maj-Gen. Hla Myint Swe reported on measures undertaken for opening of the Myanmar Maritime University.

Officials of various sub-committees reported on organizational set-up of Myanmar Maritime University, selection of faculty members, academic matters, for students drafting of curriculum and syllabus, construction of buildings and supply of teaching aids and books. The Secretary-1 took part in the discussions.

The meeting ended with the concluding remarks by the Secretary-1. After the meeting, the Secretary-1 inspected construction of buildings for Myanmar Maritime University. The Secretary-1 and party went to Bonmyinthsaung of City Central Market on Shwedagon Pagoda Road. Officials reported on measures undertaken for opening of City Centre Hotel. The Secretary-1 gave instructions and inspected the construction. The Secretary-1 and party also inspected major repair of ancient building on Shwebontha Street occupied by Pabedan Township No 2 Basic Education High School opened.


(3) New No 20 BEPS building in Thingangyun Township inaugurated

YANGON, 27 Jan.-A ceremony to inaugurate and hand over the new building for No 20 Basic Education Primary School donated by Olympic Co. Ltd in Maykha Housing Estate Project, Hsa/Kha Ward, Thingangyun Township, Yangon Division was held at the school this morning with an address by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen. Khin Nyunt.

Also present on the occasion were Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council
Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen. Myint Swe, ministers, deputy ministers, the Vice-Mayor,  officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, members of District/Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental personnel, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, social organizations, the Director-General of No 3 Basic Education Department and officials, members of the School Board of Trustees, the School Head and teachers, students, the Chairman of Olympic Co. Ltd and members and wellwishers.

Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe, Deputy Minister for Education U Myo Nyunt and
Chairman of Olympic Co. Ltd U Aik Tun formally inaugurated the new building. Then, Chairman U Aik Tun explained the purpose of donating the new building. Next, Chairman U Aik Tun handed over the documents related to the new building to Director-General of No 3 Basic Education Department U Tun Win. Afterwards, Director-General of Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development U Arnt Kyaw handed over the grant of the new building to Director-General of No 3 BED U Tun Win. Then, Headmaster U Htay Lwin spoke words of thanks.

This was followed by the donation ceremony. Headmaster U Htay Lwin accepted the donations one
computer set by U Aung Lin-Daw San San Myint and family, one printer by Dr Kyaw Htay-Ma Yu Yu Lwin and family, K 200,000 by U Cho-Daw San Yi and family,

K 100,000 by U Khin Zaw Min (Luyaingkhaungkalay Bicycle Industry) and family and K 70,000 by PTA of the school and the School Board of Trustees. Then, Chairman U Aik Tun presented the donations K 10  million for construction of Lonpan Village Basic Education Middle School, Falam Township, Chin State; two ECGs worth K 2.8 million and hospital equipment for Falam People's Hospital, Chin State; two sets of computer valued at K 1.2 million for e-Library of Falam donated by businessmen under the organization of Chairman U Aik Tun to Secretary-1 Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt.

Asia Wealth Bank also donated K 5 million for basic education schools in Nagmon and Putao Townships, Kachin State. In his address, the Secretary-1 Said that nowadays a fine tradition that wellwishers are cooperating in the donation for promotion of national education standard of school children has emerged,  and urged parents, teachers and students to make earnest efforts in harmony for ensuring the success of education promotion programmes promotion of international level education standard, emergence of all- round education system, and to ensure students to possess good characters and morale as posh new school buildings and teaching aids are increasing. After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party, and guests inspected the new building. The company has spent over K 70 million for the new two-storey building, furniture, office equipment and teaching aids.


(4) Secretary-1 attends opening of Grand Mee Ya Hta Executive Residence

YANGON, 27 Jan.-A ceremony to open the Grand Mee Ya Hta Executive Residence was held at the building on Bogyoke Aung San Street this afternoon, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development  Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt. Also present were Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development  Council Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen. Myint Swe, the ministers, the deputy ministers,  officials of the Office of State Peace and Development Council, heads of department, private entrepreneurs  of tourism services, the Chairman and members of the Board of Directors of Mee Ya Hta International Hotel Limited, local business entrepreneurs and those from abroad and special guests.

The ceremony was held the entrance. The Secretary-1 pressed the button to open the signboard of the Grand Mee Ya Hta Executive Residence. Then, Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Chairman of Mee Ya Hta International Hotel Limited Mr Serge Pun and Executive Officer Mr Mana Karnasuta of  Nawarat Patanakarn Public Co. Ltd formally opened the building. Next, Minister for Hotels and Tourism  Maj-Gen. Saw Lwin delivered an opening speech.

Afterwards, Chairman Mr Serge Pun expressed his thanks and reported on matters related to the building. Managing Director of Nawarat Patanakarn Public Co. Ltd Mr Polpat Karnasuta presented the gift to Secretary-1 Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt. The Secretary-1 and party and guests inspected the hostels there and the ceremony came to an end. The building contains 78 single-bedroom apartments, 16 double bedroom apartments and two penthouse suites equipped with 24-hour services and security system and installed  with IDD telephones, the business centre, spacious car parking area, restaurants, the swimming pool and gymnasiums.


(5)  Minister arrives back from Indonesia

YANGON, 27 Jan.-Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen. Saw Lwin arrived back here by air yesterday evening after attending the ASEAN Tourism Fair, the fifth ASEAN Tourism Ministerial Meeting, the first ASEAN (China, Japan and Korea) Tourism Ministerial Meeting and the press conference held in Jakarta from 24 to 25 January. The delegation was welcomed at the Yangon International Airport by Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen. Sein Htwa, Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone, Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen. Aye Myint Kyu and departmental officials.

Minister leaves for ROK, PRC

YANGON, 27 Jan.-At the invitation of Minister of Information and Communications of the Republic of  Korea Dr Seungtaik Yang and ZTE Corporation of the People's Republic of China, a five-member  delegation led by Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen. Thein Zaw left for the Republic of Korea and PRC by air to observe the communication works and discuss matters related to the  communications this morning. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Mines  Brig-Gen. Ohn Myint, Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Consul of the ROK Embassy Mr Park Ro-Byug, heads of department and officials of the Directorate of Telecommunications and family members of the delegation.

Vietnamese goodwill delegation leaves

YANGON, 27 Jan. - The seven-member Vietnamese goodwill delegation led by Mr Hoang Thinh arrived  here by air on 21 January at the invitation of the USDA. After paying goodwill visit to Myanmar, Mr  Hoang Thinh and a member left here on 25 January and the rest this afternoon by air. They were seen off  at the Yangon Airport by USDA CEC member U Thein Sein, officials of Vietnamese Embassy and USDA officials.


(6) Minister Maj-Gen. Ket Sein inspects hospitals in Pakokku

YANGON, 27 Jan. - Minister for Health Maj-Gen. Ket Sein, accompanied by officials
of the Health Department, inspected People's Hospital in Myaing Township, Pakokku District, yesterday  morning. Minister for Health Maj-Gen. Ket Sein spoke words of encouragement and presented gifts to  patients at the hospital. Then, Minister Maj-Gen. Ket Sein inspected medicine store, operation theatres,  delivery room and X-ray room and met with medical staff and members of the Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association at the meeting hall.

After hearing the reports by officials, the minister gave instructions on rural health care services.
Afterwards, the minister donated K 50,000 for the Township Traditional Medical Hospital and five
sewing machines K worth 200,000 to the township MCWA. In the afternoon, the minister and party
proceeded to Kyaukphu and Watkya Villages in Myaing Township, Kai Model Village in Pakokku
Township and Magyikan and Inpin Villages and inspected rural development and water supply tasks. The  minister also donated K 50,000 for the Magyikan Village basic education primary school and cash and  kind to monasteries and inspected station hospital and functions of affiliated basic education middle  school donated by the family of the minister in Kai Model Village.

Minister inspect excavation of Kanbawzathady Palace

YANGON, 27 Jan. - Minister for Culture U Tin Winn arrived at the work site to excavate the
Kanbawzathady Palace of King Bayintnaung in Bago this afternoon. The minister heard the reports made by Deputy Superintending Engineer of the building construction special group-5 of Public Works U Kyi Tun on construction of the Myenan Hall and repairs of holes caused by bats in the Bhamarasana (Bee)  Throne Hall, Myanmar Archaeologist Tampawady U Win Maung on archaeological decorations in  Myenan Hall, and Department of Archaeology Assistant Director U Myat Swe on the clearing of bats in  the Bhamarasana (Bee) Hall, to which the minister gave necessary instructions. Later, the minister went  to the reconstruction site of the Myenan Hall, where he inspected archaeological decorations, the hanging  of Marabin curtain and construction of Myanmar traditional tiers and gave necessary instructions.


(7)  Buddha Pujaniya of Maha Atulamanaung Ngadatgyi Pagoda in Bahan Township held

YANGON, 27 Jan.-The 101st Buddha Pujaniya and the provision offering ceremony of Maha Atula-manaung Ngadatgyi Pagoda in Bahan Township were held at the pagoda this afternoon. Present were  State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee member Sayadaws, Ovada-cariya Sayadaws of the Pagoda Board  of Trustees and members of the Sangha led by State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Secretary Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Sadhammajotika Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta  Kumara, Chairman of the Leading Committee for All-round Renovation of the pagoda Deputy Minister  for Home Affairs Brig-Gen. Thura Myint Maung, Chairman of the Work Committee Yangon Station  Commander Commandant of Defence Services Records Office Brig-Gen. Myo Myint and others. The  congregation received the Five Precepts from State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Vice-Chairman  Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Sadhammajotika-dhaja Thayet Sayadaw. Then, the Sayadaws and  members of the Sangha recited parittas. Next, Secretary Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara delivered a  sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained. After the ceremony, the deputy minister and officials  offered provisions to the Sayadaws and 108 members of the Sangha.

Minister inspects dam construction projects in Bago

YANGON, 27 Jan. - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen. Nyunt Tin inspected the work site of Bilin Dam project, in Letpadan Township, in Bago Yoma, 16 miles away from Yangon-Pyay Highway, yesterday afternoon. Deputy Director U Kyaw Myint Hlaing of Construction-9 of Irrigation Department  reported on earth work for the main dam and condition of outlet conduit to the minister, Chairman of Bago Division (West) Peace and Development Council Col Soe Nwe, Chairman of Thayawady District  Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Ohn Myint and Director-General of ID U Kyaw San Win. Then,  the minister gave instructions on works. In the evening, the minister and party also went to Minhla Dam  construction project in Okpo Township, 17 miles away from the highway where Construction-2 Director  U Tin Maung Ohn reported to them on tasks being carried out with the use of the chart.

Afterwards, Director-General U Kyaw San Win reported to the minister on works of reservoirs and dams under construction in Bago Division (West), tasks of embankment and the main dam for Minhla Dam, designs of outlet conduits and tasks to be carried out. Then, the minister discussed matters on works with construction engineers. Later, the minister inspected works being carried out for embankment and laying  concrete for construction of outlet conduit and left instructions.

Commerce Minister tours Shan State (East)

YANGON, 27 Jan.-Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen. Pyi Sone yesterday arrived at Mongphon Purchasing Depot in Tachilek Township, Shan State (East) where the Manager of Shan State (East) Myanma  Agricultural Produce Trading and officials reported on storage and purchase of paddy to him. The  minister gave instructions on systematic storage of paddy, minimizing loss and wastage, meeting the  target and timely arrival of paddy at the shelter. Then, the minister inspected the paddy warehouse. The  minister proceeded to Wanpon in Tachilek District where he met with officials of Border Trade Department and Combined Inspection Board and gave necessary instructions. Next, the minister inspected Wanpon Jetty and left instructions.


(8) UDNR trainees continue excursion in Yangon

YANGON, 27 Jan.- A total of 270 trainees of Primary Teachership Course No 34 of University for
Development of National Races led by Pro-Rector Daw Khin Si Si, accompanied by Secretary of
Management Committee for the Excursion of the Trainees Director-General U Hla Kyi of Civil Service  Selection and Training Department and supervisor teachers, continued their visit in Yangon City today. At 6.30 am, they arrived at Memorial to Fallen Heroes on Arzani Road in Bahan Township.

Services Records Office Commandant Brig-Gen. Myo Myint and officials welcomed them. The excursion team together with the Guard of Honour saluted the Union Flag and watched change of guards. Guard of  Honour Company Commander Maj. Kyaw Thura explained facts about the memorial. The trainees laid  the flower basket at the memorial. Brig-Gen. Myo Myint presented souvenirs to the trainees. At Shwedagon Pagoda, Secretary of the Pagoda Board of Trustees U Win Kyaing explained brief history of  the pagoda and all-round renovation tasks.

Then, the Pagoda Board of Trustees and the trainees exchanged souvenirs. On behalf of all trainees, Saw Kyaw Soe Paing of Hlaingbwe Township spoke words of thanks, and the trainees donated K 10,000 to the funds of the pagoda. At 9.30 am, the excursion group arrived at Dagon University campus where Rector Dr Maung Thin, the pro-rector and faculty members welcomed them. At the Convocation Hall, Rector Dr Maung Thin extended greetings to them and explained facts about the university. The trainees of UDNR and students of Dagon University exchanged commemorative pennants.

Trainee Ma Myint Myint Kyi of Kengtung Township spoke words of thanks. At 11 am, they proceeded to University of Culture (Yangon). Rector U Tin Soe and officials welcomed the trainees. The rector explained facts about the university. Students of Music Department and Thabin Department presented  entertainment to the trainees. Ma Li Li Win of Momauk Township spoke words of thanks. Rector U Tin  Soe and Pro-rector Daw Khin Si Si exchanged commemorative pennants of respective universities. In the  afternoon, Deputy Director-General U Thein Aung of Sports and Physical Education Department hosted a  lunch to the trainees at the National Indoor Stadium-1. (9)  Mayflower Bank to launch on-line banking service

YANGON, 27 Jan.-Mandalay branch of Myanmar May Flower Bank honoured its staff for their contribution to improvement of efficiency of the bank at a ceremony held at Oriental House Restaurant in Mandalay on 26 January. Present were Executive Director U Win Naing, Managing Director U Khin Maung, Deputy  General Manager U Aung Kyaw Soe, managers of branches in Mandalay and Monywa, staff and guests.  First, the managing director presented honorary gifts to the staff. Then, the executive director made a  speech. The MMFB is the first bank in Myanmar that is giving ATM service with the use of on-line service. Arrangements are under way to give effective modern banking services with the use of V SAT satellite communication network of Bagan Cybertech which was recently launched.

Specialists make field tour of Pyay

YANGON, 27 Jan. - Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, Myanmar Medical Association (Main) in
collaboration with Myanmar Medical Association (Pyay) treated patients with physical disabilities,
arthritis and pain syndromes and donated drugs and aids for disabled patients at Pyay Hospital on 26  January 2002. The team was headed by Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, Myanmar Medical
Association, President Prof. Dr Than Toe and Medical Superintendent of National Rehabilitation  Hospital  Dr U Min Lwin and specialists. They were welcomed at Pyay Hospital by Medical Superintendent of Pyay  Hospital, Dr U Tin Htut, President of MMA (Pyay) Dr U Khin Maung Nyunt and members.


INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADMISSION

International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University will open in June for 2002 academic year. The first semester for academic year 2002 begins in June and ends in October. The second semester begin on  1st December and ends in March 2003. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

Foreign monks, nuns and laymen who apply for one-year Diploma course must have passed at least the  Matriculation or  equivalent. For the layman who is Myanmar citizen must have their first degree, B.A. or  B.Sc. Myanmar monks and nuns who apply for  Diploma course must not be younger than 18 and not  older than 45. Age limit for students who apply for one-year Diploma course only will be given consideration. The Selection Board reserves the right to decide whether a particular applicant has met the  requirements or not.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Foreign candidates are required to sit for the written examination at the Embassy of Myanmar in country  of their residence, or at the  examination centre in Yangon, Myanmar. There will be two question papers,  namely, one on English proficiency and the other on general Knowledge relevant to Buddhism. The  closing date for submitting application form for Diploma course is 15th December 2001.  The written  entrance examination for Diploma course will be held on 8th January 2002. A candidate  who passes the  written examination must sit  for personal interview at the Embassy of Myanmar in the country of their  residence before joining the University. The admission policy of the University is  liberal and flexible  enough to get the qualified students for Diploma course. Priority will be givento foreign students.  The  students who joins the University is required to bring a proper medical certificate recently taken from any  recognized authority showing physical and mental fitness.

VISA & OTHER EXPENSES

Once a foreign student is admitted to the Diploma course, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will take care  of visa application and its extension. Tuition, boarding  and messing for foreign students will be provided  free by the University. Travelling expenses for joining the University will not be borne by the University.
