(1) Minister receives Chinese guests

YANGON, 13 June- Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung received President of China Machinery  Industry Installation Corporation (CMIIC) Mr Ren Huaishuan and party and Director of China National  Heavy Machinery Corporation (CHMC) Mr Hiu Beizhi and party separately at his office yesterday  evening. Also present at the calls were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen. Thein Tun, directors- general and  managing directors of departments and enterprises of the ministry and Head of Office U Myint Swe.

Minister receives German entrepreneurs 

YANGON, 13 June- Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen. Pyi Sone received Special Finance Advisory  Director Mr Frank Schmidt and party of Siemens Ltd of Germany at his office yesterday evening. Also  present at the call were Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen. Kyaw Hsan, directors-general of Border  Trade Department and Directorate of Trade and the managing director of Myanma Agricultural Produce  Trading and officials.

Minister receives Japanese guests

YANGON, 13 June- Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen. Pyi Sone received President Mr Katsuya Kida and  party of Tomiya Apparel Co Ltd of Japan at his office yesterday evening. Also present at the call were  Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen. Kyaw Hsan, directors-general and managing directors of  departments and of MAPT under the ministry and officials.

(2) Deputy Minister arrives back

YANGON, 13 June- Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe arrived  back here by air on 11 June evening after attending the 25th United Nations Special Assembly on Human  Settlement held in New York from 6 to 8 June. The Myanmar delegation was welcomed back at Yangon  International Airport by Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen. Myint Thein, Director-General of  Construction Inspection Department U Soe Tint, heads of department of the ministry and their families.  The Permanent Representative of Myanmar to UN U Kyaw Tint Swe, Counsellor U Nyunt Swe and  Second Secretary U Ko Ko Shein attended the assembly as members.

Health care services for the elderly carried out 

YANGON, 13 June-Under the guidance of the Ministry of Health, the health care services for the elderly  are carried out at grassroots level in Kyaukpadaung Township. Township Health Officer Dr San Htut,  Oculist Dr Aye Aye Mu, Dentist Dr Maung Maung Sein and group of Kyaukpadaung People's Hospital  gave treatment to the patients at Talaingkan Village-tract in the township today. They gave lectures on  health education to over 60 people. and presented glasses and medicines to them.

 


(3) Advanced & First Division Football Tournaments continue

YANGON, 13 June- The Advanced Division Football Tournament and the First Division Football
Tournament for 2000-2001, organized by Myanmar Football Federation, continued at the respective sports  grounds this evening. In the Advanced Division Soccer Tournament, Forestry and YCDC played a 3-3  draw at Youth Sports Training Centre in Thuwunna and Royal FC and Construction also drew 1-1 at  Padomma Sports Grounds. In the First Division Soccer Tournament, Defence Services (Navy) team beat  University team 4-0 at Salin Sports Grounds.

(4)   All Private Bus Lines Control Committee holds coord meeting

YANGON, 13 June-The coordination meeting of the All Private Bus Lines Control Committee of the  Yangon Division Supervisory Committee for Ensuring Smooth Transport was held at the hall of Yangon  Division Peace and Development Council this afternoon, with an opening address by Chairman of the Committee Vice-Chairman of the Council Deputy Commander Brig-Gen. Hsan Hsint. The meeting was  attended by the military region commanders, station commanders, chairmen of District Peace and  Development Councils, members of the Committee, Bandoola Bus Line, Than Myan Thu Bus Line, Nyein  Chan Yay Bus Line, All Private Bus Lines Control Committee (High Way) and the District Supervisory  Committees, and invited guests. Secretary of Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint  acted as master of ceremonies. Deputy Commander Brig-Gen. Hsan Hsint gave instructions on giving  supervision to ensure rule of traffic laws, and to take action against law-breakers.

(5) Urban Infrastructure Planning and Implementation Committee for Development of Dagon Myothit  Seikkan Township meets

YANGON, 13 June- A coordination meeting of Urban Infrastructure Planning and Implementation
Committee for the Development of Dagon Myothit Seikkan Township was held at the meeting hall of  Yangon City Development Committee this afternoon, attended by Chairman of YCDC Mayor U Ko Lay.  Present also were the Committee members, the directors-general and the managing directors of the  Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Electric Power, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Energy,  the Ministry of Forestry, Myanma Posts and Telecommunications, Irrigation Department, Fire Services  Department, Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development, Public Works, Secretary of  YCDC Col Myint Aung, heads of department of YCDC and guests. Mayor U Ko Lay gave a speech. Head  of City Planning and Land Reclamation Department of YCDC U Tun Than Tun explained matters related  to implementing roads and forest projects in the projected areas before and during the rainy season, waste  water treatment project and future tasks with the help of audio-visual aids. Then, the Committee members  reported matters relating to progress in implementing their tasks and work to be done. After hearing the  reports, Mayor U Ko Lay urged all the Committee members to implement the projects in time and to
assess the prevailing conditions in carrying out their tasks and to work with zeal and interest.

(6) Monsoon tree-planting ceremonies held in Central Command

YANGON, 13 June- Under the supervision of Central Command, the monsoon tree-planting ceremonies  were held at respective regiments and units on 11 June morning. Tactical Operations Commander Col  Tun Kyi of Central Command, senior military officers and officials inspected the tree-planting ceremonies  and planted trees at the respective regiments and units. At the ceremonies, Tatmadawmen and family  members grew 1,495 neem trees, 2,185 tamarind trees, 200 areca nut tree, 200 jack fruit trees, 200 mango  trees, 145 kokko trees, 250 toddy-palms, totalling 4,675 at the regiments and units.

(7) Ayeyawady Division men's team wins ISD trophy 

YANGON, 13 June - Sagaing Division women's team and Ayeyawady Division men's team won the  under-19 women's inter-State/Division basketball championship trophies today. Yangon Division men and  women's teams were runners-up in the championship matches. Mandalay Division won the third prize in  the women's division, and Bago Division was third in the men's division. General-Secretary of Myanmar  Olympic Committee Director-General of the Sports and Physical Education Department U Thaung Htaik  presented the championship trophies to Sagaing Division women's team and Ayeyawady Division men's  team. The finals of the seventh ISD under-19 basketball matches were held at Aung San Gymnasium.  Officials of Myanmar Basketball Federation and the SPED presented medals to the athletes of the six  winning teams individually. Deputy Director-General of SPED U Thein Aung also presented Best  Women's Player Award of the trophy to Ma Chaw Pa Pa Zarchi Aung of Sagaing Division and Best Men's  Player Award to Myo Hein Latt of Ayeyawady Division. Also present on the occasion were officials of the  SPED and MBF, guests and basketball fans.

(8) Myanmar-Sino friendly sports events to be held

YANGON, 13 June- A coordination meeting on holding friendly matches between Myanmar teams and  women's football team and men's volleyball team of Guangdong Province of the People's Republic of  China and selected Chinese women's Sepak Takraw team was held at the meeting hall of Aung San  Stadium this afternoon. Present on the occasion were General Secretary of Myanmar Olympic Committee  Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department President of Myanmar Football Federation  U Thaung Htaik, Deputy Director-General U Thein Aung, officials of Yangon Command, Yangon  Division Peace and Development Council Office and No 2 Military Region, representatives of departments  concerned, presidents, secretaries and officials of Myanmar Football Federation, Myanmar Volleyball  Federation and Myanmar Sepak Takraw Federation and guests. Delivering an opening address, Director-General of SPED President of MFF U Thaung Htaik said the friendly matches are turn-ups for XXI SEA  Games; and he urged officials of departments concerned to strive for achieving success to hold the friendly  matches.

Then, Secretary of MFF U Tin Aung, Secretary of MBF U Soe Thein and President of MSTF U Hla  Myint took part in the discussions. Next, Director U Maung Win of Competition and Training Division of  SPED and representatives reported their respective sectors. The director-general gave necessary  instructions and the meeting came to a close. Guangdong Province women's team and Myanmar selected  women's team will meet in the friendly soccer matches at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna on 23 and  25 June. The matches will begin at 4 p.m. Admission is K 300 per head for the grand stand and K 100 for  the stall. The two teams will play in Bago in 27 June evening. Similarly, the matches of volleyball turn-up  between the men's volleyball team of Guangdong Province and selected Myanmar volleyball team of MBF  will be held at National Indoor Stadium-1 in Thuwunna at 4 PM daily on 26, 28 and 30 June. Admission  is K 200 per head. Likewise, selected Chinese women's sepak takraw team and selected Myanmar  women's sepak takraw team will meet at the National Indoor Stadium-1 at 4 p.m. daily in Thuwunna on  29 June, 1 and 3 July. Admission is K 200 per head.
 
Commander-in-Chief (Navy)'s Shield Sepak Takraw C'ship begins

YANGON, 13 June- A ceremony to open the Commander-in-Chief (Navy)'s Shield Sepak Takraw  Championship Tournament was held at Thiha Thura Tun Tin Hall of Ayeyawady Naval Region  Command Headquarters this morning. On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy), Commander of  Naval Shipyards Command Commodore Paw Tun gave an opening address. Also present on the occasion  were Commander of Ayeyawady Naval Region Command Captain Maw Thein, officers and  Tatmadawmen and family members of the Office of Commander-in-Chief (Navy), command headquarters  in Yangon Station, naval flotillas and depots. A total of nine teams are taking part in the tournament  which will last till 20 June.

Chinese Merchants' Trophy Basketball Tournament continues
 
YANGON, 13 June- The Chinese Merchants' Trophy Basketball Tournament, co-organized by Myanmar  Basketball Federation and Chinese National Sports Club, continued at Kyaikkasan Sports Grounds this  morning. In the women's event, Yangon Division beat Central Youth 93-34. In the second round of the  men's open event, Gar Gar (B) beat AyonU 77-43 and Gar Gar (A) beat Toenaya 84-49. In the second  round of men's junior event, Central Youth beat Flame 79-60 and NIP beat TTC 53-29. One match in the  women's event, two semi-final matches in the men's open and two semi-final matches in the men's junior  will be held tomorrow.

Joint-Secretary of YCDC inspects tax-free markets

YANGON, 13 June- Joint-Secretary of Yangon City Development Committee U Kyi Win, accompanied  by Head of Markets Department U Soe Myint, Deputy Head of Veterinary and Slaughter Houses  Department U Htay Aung and officials inspected Yankin tax-free market in Yankin Township and  Hanthawady tax-free market in Kamaryut Township today and gave necessary instructions.

(9) Drug trafficker gets prison term 

YANGON, 13 June- A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Taunggyi
special anti-drug squad, acting on information, searched Shinbaik at Hsuupyimon Restaurant near Maw  Cherry bus terminal in Taunggyi and seized 30,000 stimulant tablets hidden in his bag on 4 December  2000. Action was taken against Shinbaik, 36, son of U Shan Htein of Naunghtaw Ywathit, Hsihseng  Township by No 2 Taunggyi Police Station in connection with the seizure of the drugs. He was sentenced  to 30 years'  imprisonment under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Subtances Law by  Taunggyi District Court on 30 April 2001.
