(1) River pumped-water projects being implemented to turn Sagaing Division into upper Myanmars rice  bowl

Secretary-1 inspects pumped-water projects and Chindwin Bridge (Monywa) Project

YANGON, 8 May  Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt
inspected pumped-water projects and Chindwin Bridge (Monywa) Project in Sagaing Division yesterday  and today.

Accompanied by ministers, deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office  and heads of department, the Secretary-1 left here by air yesterday morning.

On arrival at Monywa Airport in Sagaing Division, the Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by member  of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development  Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen. Soe  Myint and military and civil officials.

Together with the commander, the Secretary-1 and party inspected Twingyi River Pumped-Water Project  near Pareinma village in Myaung Township.

At the briefing hall, the Secretary-1 heard a report on river pumped-water projects being implemented in the nation presented by Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen. Khin Maung. The
deputy minister also said that when completed the projects being implemented by Water Resources
Utilization Department in Sagaing Division will irrigate 150,000 more acres of land in the region.

Director-General of WRUD U Win Shwe reported to the Secretary-1 on progress in implementing the
projects.  Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win said completed pumped-water projects are now irrigating
970,000 acres of crops at present.

At the time when all the projects in the division are completed, they will irrigation up to 1.16 million
acres of crops. In accord with the guidance of the Head of State, efforts are being made to turn Sagaing  Division into the rice bowl of upper Myanmar; and sown acreage in the division at present is 1.417  million acres up from 1.25 million acres in the past.

The estimated paddy cultivated acres including double-cropping for this year is 1.52 million acres; and at  the end of the five-year project, it will increase up to 2.13 million acres. The Secretary-1 said the electric  river pumped-water projects are being implemented under the guidance of Head of State Senior General  Than Shwe to supply water to dry regions located near the water bodies.

Only when the aims of the projects are realized, will the agriculture be extended. Coordination should be  made for completion of the projects in time and to ensure power supply. The Secretary-1 then inspected  the project maps and charts, progress in building the main canal, water tanks and installation of pipes.

Twingyi region in Myaung Township which is located in the dry zone had to rely on rain for cultivation.
The Twingyi Electric River Pumped-Water Project is implemented to grow crops year round in the region.  When completed the project will irrigate 10,000 acres of land the whole year. At Nyaungbingyi Electric  River Pumped-Water Project in Salingyi Township, the Secretary-1 and party heard reports on the effective acres at the project's completion and electricity supply to the project, presented by Director-General of WRUD U Win Shwe and Deputy Minister for Electric Power U Myo Myint, joined in by  Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win.

The Secretary-1 gave suggestions on completion of the project in time and power availability. The project  which is being implemented near Kyaukmyet village in Salingyi Township will pump water from  Chindwin River to irrigate 10,000 acres of land. At microbiology division of Myanma Pharmaceutical  Industries at Twindaung in Butalin Township, Deputy Minister for Industry-1 Brig-Gen. Kyaw Win  briefed the Secretary-1 and party on initiation of blue green algae production project in 1988 to  manufacture Provimin tablets, nutrients included in blue green algae, the conditions of blue green algae producing lakes in Myanmar, annual production of dried blue green algae, production of more potent  dried blue green algae and research work being undertaken to produce quality blue green algae species. Dr  Min Thein of MPI also explained plans for long-term production of blue green algae of international  standard.

The Secretary-1 said Spirulina with high nutrition which is very rare in the world grows sufficiently in
Myanmar. Necessary requirements have been provided for high quality production, he said. He gave
instructions on arrangements for production of better quality Spirulina. Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win
and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen. Khin Maung reported on assistance for production of Spirulina. The
Secretary-1 took part in the discussions.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected cosmetics produced with blue green algae (Spirulina), foodstuff,
medicine and production process.

In the afternoon, the Secretary-1 and party went by helicopter to the site of Yaybudalin water pumping  project in Khochaung region in Budalin Township. Director-General U Win Shwe reported on location of  Yaybudalin water pumping project, benefited cultivation acreage on completion of the project and  implementation of the tasks as scheduled.

Deputy Minister U Myo Myint also reported on power supply to the project and Deputy Minister Brig-
Gen. Khin Maung on the project for availability of water. Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win reported on
arrangements for cultivation of paddy and sesamum, beans and pulses and extended cultivation of cotton.

The Secretary-1 then gave instructions. The Secretary-1 and party inspected the site for pumping water,  construction of water tank and completion of main canal. Yaybudalin water pumping project is being  implemented for irrigation of 40,000 acres of cultivable lands.

The Secretary-1 and party went by helicopter to Kyabin Village in Mingin Township where they were
welcomed by Chairmen of Kalay District and Mingin Township Peace and Development Councils,
officials and members of USDA. The Secretary-1 and party met local farmers and villagers of 15 Village-tracts near Kyabin Village.

Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council U Gankhant Paung reported on area of the
township, cultivation acreage, requirements for health and education sectors of the Township and
assistance provided by the people of Mingin Township for regional development and Junior Assistant
Teacher Daw Khin Mar Htwe on requirements of teachers. The Secretary-1 said he came to the village to  fulfil the requirements for regional development.

He said a new Monywa-Kalaywa Road is being built in accord with the guidance of the Head of State. He  said it was the fourth time that he met with local people for providing assistance to the development of  villages along the Monywa-Kalaywa Road. He said the government has been fulfilling education, health and social needs of the people as much as possible. Head of State Senior General Than Shwe gave  guidance on laying emphasis on development of rural regions, the most basic regions of the State, he said.

The existing Monywa-Kalaywa Road is long and winding. Senior General Than Shwe himself chose the  axis for construction of new road with the aim of developing over 60 villages along the road, he said. It is  necessary to achieve harmonious progress in political, economic and social sectors for national  development and better transportation plays a vital role in the development of the regions, he said.  Construction of the Monywa-Kalaywa Road is progressing and tarring of road is under way with the  cetena of the Head of State toward the local people.

That was why he came to the region to fulfil the education, health and social requirements, he added. At  a time when the government is making endeavours to produce good results, national races are to discharge  their respective duties under the leadership of the government, he said. He called on the local people to  make concerted efforts for emergence of a peaceful modern developed nation which is the national goal.

Then, the Secretary-1 presented teaching aids to Headmistress Daw Mya Mya of Kyabin Village
Affiliated Basic Education High School. At 3.30 p.m., the Secretary-1 and party left Kyabin Village and  inspected progress in construction of Monywa-Kalaywa Road by helicopter.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected completion of paving the 18-foot-wide-tarred-road section on
Monywa-Kalaywa Road between 20 mile-6 furlong camp and Letkhokebin Village in Yinmabin
Township. At 4.45 p.m., the Secretary-1 and party arrived at Chindwin Bridge (Monywa) being built near  Letkhokebin Village in Yinmabin Township and inspected driving of piles on Yinmabin bank and piers.  In the briefing hall on Monywa bank, Superintending Engineer (Project) U San Nyein of Public Works reported to the Secretary-1 on construction tasks of the bridge.

Deputy Minister U Tint Swe gave a supplementary report. Col Soe Thein of Directorate of Military
Engineers reported on construction of 120-mile-long Monywa-Kalaywa Road. The Secretary-1 gave
necessary instructions. Chindwin Bridge (Monywa) will be 4,910.6 feet long. The foundation of the bridge  will be built of reinforced concrete piles and bolt piles. Upper portion of the bridge will be built of steel  frames and reinforced concrete beams.

On completion of the bridge, the road from Monywa to Kalaywa through Chindwin Bridge (Monywa) will  be shorter than YeU-Taze-Thetkeigyin Road. Out of 120 mile-long-Monywa-Kalaywa Road, 115 miles  long two-lane-earthen road has been completed and 26 miles long road has been paved with tar. A total of  153 wooden bridges, five overflow pipes and 90 conduits have been built along the road, so far. At 5.30  p.m., the Secretary-1 and party inspected development of Monywa by car.

Then, the Secretary-1 and party inspected conducting of computer courses, the library and CD-ROMs
Room of the Electronic Library at City Hall in Monywa. The Secretary-1 then signed in the visitors' book.  Under the leadership of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council and North-West Command  Headquarters, the Electronic Library was opened with the aim of imparting knowledge to those who have  completed the basic education.

(2) Home Minister meets Chairman of Council of the People's Attorneys of Lao PDR

YANGON, 8 May- Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing met Chairman of Council of the People's  Attorneys Mr Khampane Philavong and party of the Lao People's Democratic Republic at his office this  afternoon. Also present at the call were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen. Thura Myint Maung, Director-General  of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, Director-General U Aung Thein of General  Administration Department, Director-General U Tun Hla Aung of Bureau of Special Investigation,  Director-General U Kyaw Tun of Prisons Department and Head of Office U Thet Tun.

Mindhamma Hill crowded with pilgrims

YANGON, 8 May-The Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image on Mindhamma Hill in Insein
Township was crowded with members of the Sangha, pilgrims and devotees today. Stone sculptor Siri
Sudhamma Manijotadhara U Taw Taw and sons put finishing touches on the image. Staff of Public Works of the Ministry of Construction, Myanmar handicraft technicians U Ohn Tin and group and U Hla Kyu and group undertook decoration tasks of Gandakuti Kyaungdawgyi and southern and northern stairways. Wut associations recited religious verses at the Image from morning to evening. Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Information sold various kinds of books. Myanmar Traditional Artists and Artisans Asiayon (Central) also opened a souvenir shop. Siri Sudhamma Singi Daw Khin Kyi donated K 1 million for the ceiling of Gandakuti Kyaungdawgyi yesterday afternoon. Donations of wellwishers climbed up to K 178,616,789 at the fund-raising unit of the Image on Mindhamma Hill from 5 August to this evening.

(3)Chief Justice meets Chairman of Council of Peoples Attorneys of Lao PDR

YANGON, 8 May Chief Justice U Aung Toe received Chairman of Council of the Peoples Attorneys Mr  Khampane Philavong and party of the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic at his office at 11 am today.   Also present at the call were Deputy Chief Justice U Than Oo, Ambassador of the Lao PDR Mr Ly  Bounkham and Director-General U Tin Aye of the Supreme Court.  Then, the guests observed the hearing  of Supreme Court Judge Dr Tin Aung Aye at the Room No 2 of the Supreme Court.

Attorney-General meets Chairman of Council of Peoples Attorneys of Lao PDR

YANGON, 8 May Attorney-General U Tha Tun received Chairman of Council of the Peoples Attorneys  Mr Khampane Philavong and party of the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic, currently here to exchange  views related to legal affairs and to promote friendly relationship between the two countries, at his office  at 9 am today.  Also present at the call were Deputy Attorney-General U Khin Maung Aye, Director-General Dr Tun Shin of the Attorney-Generals Office and officials.

At 7.30 am, the Laotian guests paid obeisance to Shwedagon Pagoda and made donations towards the
funds for all-round renovation of the pagoda.

At 9.30 am, the Attorney-General explained the Attorney-General Law 2001 and the duty and functions of  the law offices. The Laotian Chairman of Council of the People's Attorneys also explained the  organization set up of the Office of the Council of the People's Attorneys and duty and functions. They  then discussed law and legal affairs of the two countries.  In the afternoon, the guests visited the National  Museum.  At 7 p.m., Attorney-General U Tha Tun hosted a dinner in honour of the Laotian Chairman of  Council of the People's Attorneys and party at Karaweik Hotel.

(4) World Red Cross Day observed with prize-presentation ceremony

YANGON, 8 May-  The 2001 World Red Cross Day was observed at the hall of the Institute of Nursing in  Lanmadaw Township this morning.

Present were Deputy Minister for Health Professor Dr Kyaw Myint, the directors-general of departments  under the Ministry of Health, departmental officials, members of Central Council of Myanmar Red Cross  Society, President of MRCS and executives, chairmen and officials of Non-Governmental Organizations,  Ambassadors, Charge d'Affaires, delegates of International Committee of the Red Cross and International  Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, outstanding Red Cross members of States and  Divisions, winners of World Red Cross Day First Aid Skill Contest and guests.

Executive Director of MRCS U Aung Than read the message of Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein. In  his message, the minister said the World Red Cross Day is a significant day for members of the Red Cross  Society and members of the Red Cross Brigade carrying out noble humanitarian work of the Red Cross.  The World Red Cross Day is being observed throughout the world on his birthday in honour of Henry  Dunant, founder of Red Cross Society.

Members of the Red Cross Society and Red Cross Brigade are carrying out the tasks of prevention of
outbreak of epidemics and helping those who are in distress to alleviate human sufferings, the message
said.

Today the State Peace and Development Council has been carrying out the tasks for peace and
tranquillity, economic and social aspects and nation-building tasks for the interest of the people while
propagating the Union Spirit.

The minister called for utmost efforts of all Red Cross and nurses in carrying out humanitarian activities  in accord with this year's motto - The Power of Humanity.

President of MRCS Dr Kyaw Win spoke on the occasion, saying Red Cross and Red Crescent societies of  the world including Myanmar observe the World Red Cross Day. The World Red Cross Day was fixed on  8 May, the birthday of Henry Dunant who launched humanitarian work of the Red Cross. He spoke on  seven principles humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service unity and universality.  He expressed thanks for all members of Red Cross who made sacrificed their interest.

He urged Red Cross youths to make concerted efforts in carrying out community welfare service.

The deputy minister and officials presented prizes to two Red Cross members who received medal on
outstanding performance on social field and winners of First Aid Skill Contest.

(5) Display of exhibits at Drug Elimination Museum discussed

YANGON, 8 May' A coordination meeting on display of exhibits at the Drug Elimination Museum was  held at the meeting hall of the museum on Kyundaw Road in Kamayut Township at 3 p.m. today, with an  address by Chairman of the Central Committee of Drug Abuse Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin  Hlaing.

Also present were chairmen of work groups of CCDAC Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin
Maung Win, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen. Thura Myint Maung, Deputy Minister for
Information Brig-Gen. Aung Thein, Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U Aung Thein, Deputy  Minister for Education Brig-Gen. Soe Win Maung, Chairman of the Booth Display Committee Secretary  of CCDAC Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, departmental heads, the  president of Myanmar Anti-Nacotics Association, the chairman of Myanmar Traditional Artists and  Artisans Asiayon, officials of Border Area Development Association and departments concerned and  guests.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the Drugs Elimination Museum will be opened on 26 June
2001 which is the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The Museum on Narcotic  Drug has been opened in Mongla region and the Drugs Eliminiation Museum in Laukkai in Kokang  region. It is necessary to make arrangements for display of the Drugs Elimination Museum of
international standard. The minister stressed the need to coordinate work groups for performing the
display of exhibition at the Electric Museum level in accord with the instructions of Secretary-1 Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt.  Then, Secretary of CCDAC Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe  Win reported on instructions of the Secretary-1 related to the display of exhibits at the museum.

Afterwards, chairmen of the work groups deputy ministers and departmental heads reported on their
respective sectors.  Later, the minister gave necessary instructions and inspected the Museum.

Senior officials arrive to attend meetings on drug control

YANGON, 8 May  -  Leaders of delegations, senior official, members of delegations of respective
countries and organizations arrived here by air to attend Ministerial Meeting of countries that have signed  Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in drug control in the sub-region of East Asia and Pacific  region, Senior Officials Meeting and High Level Bilateral meetings (HILB) hosted by Myanmar.

Delegates from People's Republic of China and Cambodia, senior officials of United Nations Drug Control  Programme in Cambodia and Laos and Chairman Mr Soubanh Srithirath and members of delegates of  Lao Committee for Drug Control (L.C.D.C) arrived here today.

They were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Chairman of Supervisory Committee of Work  Committees of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen.  Thura Myint Maung, Chief of Staff (Police) Police Brig-Gen. Zaw Win of Myanmar Police Force, Ambassador of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to Myanmar Mr Ly Bounkham and diplomats of  respective embassies in Yangon.

High Level Bilateral Meetings on drug control held

YANGON, 8 May- Ministerial Meeting of Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, China, Cambodia and Vietnam that  have signed Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in drug control in the sub-region of East Asia  and Pacific region, Senior Officials Meeting and High Level Bilateral Meetings (HILB) sponsored by  UNDCP, hosted by Myanmar are being held here from today to 11 May.

The meetings of High Level Bilateral (HILB) were held at Hotel Equatorial on Alanpya Pagoda Road this  morning.  The meetings between Union of Myanmar and Thailand and Union of Myanmar and People's  Republic of China were held in the morning. The meetings between Cambodia and Socialist Republic of  Vietnam and Cambodia and Thailand took place in the afternoon.  At the meetings, delegates of  respective countries gave accounts of on drug control activities and cooperation with respective countries.

Meeting of Senior Officials (SOC) of Myanmar, Thai, Lao, China, Cambodia and Vietnam that have
signed Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in drug control in the sub-region of East Asia and  Pacific region will be held at the same venue on 9 May.  A reception was held at the same venue this  evening by UNDCP to welcome delegates to the meetings.

(6)  Minister inspects plot for UMFCCI building

YANGON, 8 May' Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen. Pyi Sone, accompanied by Director-General U
Nyunt Aye of the Directorate of Trade, Director-General Col Nay Win of Border Trade Department,
Managing Director U Min Hla Aung of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading, President of Union of
Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry U Win Myint and officials, arrived at the  plot, 29, Minye Kyawswa Road, Lanmadaw Township, where UMFCCI building will be built, at 1 p.m. today.

In the briefing hall, officials reported to the minister on condition of the plot.  The minister then inspected  preparations for the construction of the building. On arrival at Warehouse No 11 of MAPT in Kamayut Township, officials reported on storage of crops in the hourse. Afterwards, the minister inspected the warehouse and gave necessary instructions.

Minister hoists Shwehtidaw, at PhaungdawU Pagoda in Myittha

YANGON, 8 May' Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied by officials, yesterday
morning arrived at the Mandat, where the Shwehtidaw hoisting, the Emerald Bowl and Shwekyar
Thingan offering and the consecration ceremony for PhaungdawU Pagoda in Myittha would be held.

The minister and party were welcomed there by Mandalay Division Superintending Engineer U Sai Thein  Maung of Public Works, Kyaukse District Senior Engineer U Maung Maung Lwin and members of the  Pagoda Board of Trustees.

At the ceremony, Chairman of Myittha Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Mingon Kyaung Sayadaw  Agga Maha Saddhamma-jotika Bhaddanta Punña administered the Nine Precepts.

Then, wellwisher Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun and wife and family and other wellwishers offered
Seinbudaw, Hngetmyatnadaw and donations to the Chairman Sayadaw. Afterwards, the Chairman
Sayadaw delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits. Next, the minister and wife and family
conveyed the Seinbudaw and the Hngetmyatnadaw and went round the pagoda. The minister then hoisted  the Seinbudaw and the Hngetmyatnadaw atop the pagoda. Members of the Sangha consecrated the  pagoda. Later, the minister and wife and family performed the rituals of golden and silver showers to  mark the success of the ceremony.

Myatmikhin Literary Committee holds sixth prize distribution ceremony

YANGON, 8 May' The sixth prize distribution ceremony of Myatmikhin Literary Committee was held at  Kanbawza Restaurant in the compound of the Fine Arts Department on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road on 5 May.

Present were Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt (Htila Sitthu), Chairman of Myanmar Writers and  Journalists Association U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung) and Central Body members, Chairman of the
Myatmikhin Literary Committee Dr Myo Thant Tin and members, winners and guests.

Chairman of Myatmikhin Literary Committee Chairman Dr Myo Thant Tin and Tekkatho Phone Naing  explained the literary tasks of the committee and presented consolation prizes to Soe Aung (Mandalay),  Hinthada Maung Nwe Htut, Khin Thitsa, Ko Zaw Htay (Yinkyayhmu) and Khin Aye Han (Myawady TV).

This year, nobody win first, second and third prizes in the short story and novel and novel competitions
because the committee did not receive quality entries.

The committee continues to hold the short story and novel competitions. Entries will not be framed
without subject and title. Quality entries will be selected for prize presentation and publication.

(7) Japanese cultural troupe members visit Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON, 8 May' A 22-member Manjushaka traditional cultural troupe led by Mrs Kiyoe Fujinaka of
Japan, who will present dances at the National Theatres in Yangon and Mandalay, paid obeisance to
Shwedagon Pagoda this morning.  Officials of the Pagoda Board of Trustees explained the history of the  pagoda.  Then, Japanese cultural troupe members went round the pagoda.

Get-together of Outstanding Red Cross Youths continues

YANGON, 8 May - The Outstanding Red Cross Youths Get-together 2001 continued for the fifth day at  the Institute of Nursing this morning. Youths from the states and divisions attended the World Red Cross  Day commemorative ceremony. President Dr Kyaw Win of Myanmar Red Cross Society presented  certificates of honour to the youths at No 2 BEHS, Latha. Cardiologist Professor Dr U Aung of Yangon  General Hospital gave a lecture on Tobacco and Health to the youths in the afternoon.

(8) Minister views works of Contemporary Art Exhibition from Korea

YANGON, 8 May- Minister for Culture U Win Sein inspected the Contemporary Art Exhibition from
Korea at the multi-purpose hall of the National Museum this morning. The minister was welcomed there  by directors-general and deputy directors-general of Department of Cultural Institute, Archaeology  Department and Fine Arts Department, the First Secretary of the Korean Embassy and officials. The minister viewed 34 works of 17 Korean artists. The exhibition opens from 9.30 am to 4.30 p.m. daily till  25 May. At the exhibition, various kinds of books published by departments under the Ministry of Culture  were sold.

Extended Breeding and Production of Meat and Fish coordinated

YANGON,8 May- The Committee for Extended Breeding and Production of Meat and Fish held the
coordination meeting at Fisheries Department on Hsinmin Street in Ahlon Township this afternoon,
attended by Chairman of the Committee Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Lt-Gen. Tin Ngwe and  Vice-Chairman Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen. Maung Maung Thein. The chairman and  the vice-chairman gave instructions. Deputy ministers reported on work done by group for extended  breeding of prawn and condition of extended production of meat and fish in Mon State and Ayeyawady  Division, members of the committee on breeding and production of meat and breeding, catching and  production of fish respectively. Deputy Minister U Aung Thein also took part in the discussions. The  chairman and the vice-chairman then gave concluding remarks.

National selected athletes undergoing training for SEA Games

YANGON, 8 May - Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen. Thura Aye  Myint inspected national selected athletes undergoing training for XXI SEA Games this morning.
Accompanied by officials, the minister inspected boxers, sepak takraw players and weight lifters at Aung  San Stadium. He also presented training aids to the athletes. At the shooting range of Myanmar Shooting  Federation in South Okkalapa Township, he viewed the sharpshooters undergoing training. He also  inspected the guns and met the shooters.

(9) Seized soft drinks, monosodium glutamate destroyed

YANGON, 8 May-The authorities concerned seized Thai-made smuggled Red Bull cans of soft drinks and  ladle contraband illegal monosodium glutamate packets at Mongpyin Township in Shan State (East). The  authorities searched a TE truck with number plate Zamyinzwe/ 2968 and found 350 cartons each  containing 24 cans of Red Bull soft drinks owned by Daw Shwe Mya of Lower Market Street in Mongpyin  on 12 March. They also searched her house and found four cartons each containing 24 cans of Red Bull  soft drinks and 328 packets of ladle brand monosodium glutamate weighing 250 grams each and 40 packets weighing 500 grams each. Under the supervision of Shan State (East) Peace and Development  Council, officials set the seized stuff on fire in the compound of the Customs Department in Kengtung on  1 May.

YANGON, 8 May  - A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Myanmar
Police Force, acting on information, while waiting at the entrance of Nam-om Village, Muse Township in Shan State (North), searched a light vehicle and arrested Ma Kyein Li of Takkanine Village in Kutkai Township together with 0.144 kilo of heroin kept in nine soap-boxes on 21 April.

The police station concerned has filed her under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
