April2900001.jpg (15272 bytes)April2900012.jpg (16179 bytes)

Yangon, 28 April—The annual meeting of Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association was held at Karaweik Hall here this morning, with an address by Chairman of Housing Project Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present were ministers, deputy ministers, the vice-mayor, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department and the chairman of Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association, executives and members.

The Secretary-1 said at a time when efforts are being made with the collective force of the entire people to enable the Union of Myanmar to keep pace with the development of international community, emergence of MCEA, a national force on which the State places reliance, is the success of a force which is participating in national deve-lopment tasks.

As is known to all, he said, the State Peace and Development Council is making endeavours with national determination after laying down long-term plans for development of the nation and improvement of national economic life and living standard of the people.

Urban development tasks including housing projects play a vital role in striving for modernization and development of the nation and enabling the people to live a peaceful, happy and healthy life.

The fact that cities and towns which are developing and have been modernized in accord with the characteristics of a big city manifests high prestige of the State. Therefore, the government has continuously laid emphasis on implementation of urban development projects, he added.

On the other hand, he said, the government has given encouragement in all seriousness for emergence of national economic enterprises that can shape national economic life according to the economic policy of the State. As a result, economy, production and services such as trade, banking services, hotels and tourism industry and industrial production and construction work have developed, he said.

He said the government has created opportunities for active construction entrepreneurs with fresh mind to participate in nation-building and urban development tasks and so national construction work has been picking up.

It was no mean feat that high-rise buildings, modern housing estates, business centres, modern departmental stores, five-star hotels, garden cities, golf courses of international standard and amusement parks have been built throughout the nation under the leadership of the government and with the efforts of national construction entrepreneurs.

With the development of construction work with added momentum, successful construction entrepreneurs have participated in nation-building tasks, education, health, social sectors and tasks for promotion and propagation of the Sasana in response to the government’s cetena. It is satisfactory to note that a good practice of mutual reliance between the government and construction entrepreneurs has emerged, he said.

The government has formed the national-level housing project committee in order to systematically develop construction work and provide necessary assistance in accord with the policy of the State and it has also given assistance and encouragement in establishing MCEA comprising efficient and successful construction entrepreneurs as a united national force.

Although the rate of deve-lopment slowed down in 1997 as a result of South-East Asia economic crisis, construction business and housing projects are now beginning to pick up due to encouragement of the government, supaaervision of the housing project committee and efforts of construction entrepreneurs. It is also found that Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association has emerged as a united, efficient and dynamic national force.

In accordance with its noble aims, Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association is now working to ensure construction of buildings of high quality with the use of modern construction technology, serving as a coordinator between the State and construction entrepreneurs and among entrepreneurs and taking measures to establish a contact with international construction entrepreneurs associations. It is also found that the association is working for dissemination of modern construction technology and emergence of technicians and skilled workers in conjunction with Myanmar Engineering Association, Myanmar Architects Association and Yangon Technological University. In addition, it is encouraging to see that the association itself and its members are actively taking part in nation-building tasks, education, health and social activities and the task for the promotion and propagation of the Sasana. Particularly in the sport sector, construction entrepreneurs are serving as presidents, vice-presidents and members with 18 sports federations and are working for the improvement of sport standard with man, financial and management power.

The task of which Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association is proud is the construction of its new office building of international standard. It is believed that when the new office building of the association emerges grandly, members of the association will have more occasions to deal with one another and will be able to serve the State and the people all the more. Today members of the association are engaged not only in construction work but also in the various economic sectors of the State such as agriculture, livestock breeding, fishery, mining and gems and industrial production due to assistance and encouragement of the State. The Secretary-1 quoted Head of State Senior General Than Shwe as saying that in the economic life of the State, it is imperative that national entrepreneurs are prosperous and successful, and the strength of wealth of national entrepreneurs is the financial strength of the State. If the government and entrepreneurs work and cooperate in unison, nation-building tasks will be more successful and a modern and developed nation will have been built very soon. In accordance with the guidance of the Head of State, the government is making the role of the State sector smaller and smaller and giving encouragement to the private sector.

The economic, commercial and industrial tasks as well as services which the government undertook previously have been handed over to national entrepreneurs. Now that the transport sector is being handed over gradually to national entrepreneurs, construction entrepreneurs are undertaking the construction of airports and runways, modern ports as well as maintenance and repairs of Union Highways. As much as construction entrepreneurs have carried out not only construction work but also production and commercial work and services, they will become more and more efficient and prosperous. Therefore, it is safe to say that Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association is becoming stronger and stronger. So Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association, which has become stronger and more efficient and dynamic, is required to stand as a national force on whom the State places reliance and work hard for the development of national economy systematically on the correct path of national causes. In accordance with the guidance of Head of State Senior General Than Shwe, all the members of Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association are required to unitedly stand under the flag of the association and cooperate with the government in order to maintain the tradition of cooperation of the government and national entrepreneurs in building a peaceful, modern and developed nation. Individual construction entrepreneurs are required to work for individual long-term interests and national interests and to do their utmost to implement housing projects of high quality and standard and urban development projects. In conclusion, the Secretary-1 wished that Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association would be able to stand long and make progress, that it would be able to work for the development of the State and progress of social life of national people and that it would be able to carry out not only construction work but also production, agricultural, livestock breeding and commercial work and duties of providing services, thereby further strengthening the national economic life. Then, Chairman U Khin Shwe of Myanma Construction Entrepreneurs Association spoke words of thanks. He said; with the momentous development which has been experienced since 1989, the scene of the State has been magnificent with modern buildings, wide roads and bridges and glittering pagodas and religious buildings which shows prosperity and propagation of Sasana unlike the past.

Businesses of all sectors including construction have been developed without losing momentum because the government has created opportunities, encouraged and safeguarded the entrepreneurs. Although the economy of the State lost momentum during South East Asian financial crisis in 1997, it has been got over without any severe loss that other nations had to suffer from because of the wise guidance of the Head of State and encouragement and support of the State. Moreover, momentum of development could be managed to regain in a short period. The new building of the association that will show development of production technology of construction entrepreneurs will be finished and opened at the end of May. The construction entrepreneurs will always follow the guidance of the State in performing tasks, he said. Afterwards, he explained construction of new building of the association to the guests with the use of video.
