Yangon, 24 April— Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe accepted the credentials of Pehin Datu Pekerina Bijaya Col (Retd) Dato Paduka Haji Hussin bin Haji Sulaiman, newly-accredited Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Union of Myanmar, at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 10 am today.

( 2 ) Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspects MRTV extension programmes

Yangon, 24 April — Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt met officials at Myanma Radio and Television at 4.45 pm today and discussed matters relating to extension of news and other programmes of MRTV.

Present at the meeting were ministers, deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, the deputy director-general of MRTV, directors and officials.Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung reported to the Secretary-1 on the increase of staff strength of MRTV to extend its programmes, conducting of work proficiency courses and provision of equipment.

Deputy Director-General of MRTV Lt-Col Thein Aung explained progress in making arrangements to extend the programmes.Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin briefed the Secretary-1 on plans to provide assistance to the programmes extension project.Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt gave suggestions.He then inspected the reinforced equipment to extend the programmes.
 

 

 

Secretary-1 attends meeting of Privatization Commission

Yangon, 24 April—The Privatization Commission held its 2/2001 meeting at the meeting hall of the Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army) of the Ministry of Defence this afternoon, attended by Chairman of Privatization Commission Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present were Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint, the ministers, the attorney-general, the deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of departments and officials.

Minutes of 1/2001 meeting of Privatization Commission were apporved.Director-General of Project Appraisal and Progress Reporting Department U Tin Hlaing reported on work done regarding the resolutions of the previous meeting.The Secretary-1, members of the commission and officials took part in the discussions.

Those present reported on privatization works respectively.The Secretary-1 participated in the discussions and the meeting ended in the eveing.

Yangon, 24 April —A 16-member delegation led by Maj-Gen Raza Muhammad Khan of National Defence College of Pakistan called on Chief of Armed Forces Training Maj-Gen Win Myint at Defence Service Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road at 8 am today.

Commandant of National Defence College Maj-Gen Moe Hein met Maj-Gen Raza Muhammad Khan and party at NDC at 9.30 am.Commandant Maj-Gen Moe Hein extended greetings and explained facts about the college with video.

Then, officials of the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development explained the tasks of their respective ministries. Afterwards, Commandant Maj-Gen Moe Hein and Maj-Gen Raza Muhammad Khan exchanged gifts.Next, Maj-Gen Raza Muhammad Khan and party visited library and exhibitions at the college.

Myanmar & International Affairs trainees visit Pyay, Magway, Bagan

Yangon, 24 April — The trainees of Myanmar and International Affairs Course No 2 of Union Solidarity and Development Association, accompanied by CEC member of USDA Brig-Gen Khin Maung, Principal Lt-Col Myo Myint, course instructors, arrived at Pyay on 18 April.

They were welcomed by Col Win Myint, Secretary of Bago Division (West) USDA U Thet Oo and members.The trainees paid homage to Shwebontha Muni Pagoda and Shwesandaw Pagoda in Pyay in the evening.

They inspected the excavation of ancient Beikthano city and cultural heritage in Taungdwingyi on 19 April.The Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council and Magway Division USDA hosted dinner in honour of the trainees in the evening.The Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council explained the development of Magway Division and greening work on 20 April morning.

The trainees visited Ayeyawady River Bridge project (Magway) in Magway.They arrived at Bagan-NyaungU in the evening.

The trainees visited Archaeological Museum and paid obeisance to Bagan pagoda No 820 in the evening.They paid homage to Lawkananda, Dhamma Yazaka, Sawhlawun, Hsinphyushin, Sulamani, Dhammayangyi and Ananda pagodas and studied the Myanma cultural and ancient cultural heritage.

They donated K 20,000 to members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees for Ananda Pagoda, Alodawpyi Pagoda and Hsinphyushin Kyaungtaik.They paid homage to Gupyaukkyi (Myinkapa), Hsinmyashin, Alodawpyi and Shwezigon pagodas in the afternoon.CEC member Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung hosted dinner in honour of the trainees.

Hsakagyi-Uto-Aphyauk road opened

Yangon, 24 April — Hsakagyi-Uto-Apyauk road linking Yangon and Ayeyawady Divisions was commissioned into service this morning, attended by Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt.

Built by Danubyu Township Development Affairs Department, the laterite road connecting Hsakagyi in Danubyu Township, Ayeyawady Division, and Uto village in Taikkyi Township, Yangon Division, is five and a half miles long.

The road was built at a cost of K 9.75 million, to which the State provided K 8.25 million and the public, K 1.5 million.

At the Hsakagyi Village Peace and Development Council Office, the minister met officials, village authorities and members of Township Union Solidarity and Development Association and discussed progress of rural roads, water availability, education, health and rural economic opportunities.

( 5 ) MRTV DG leaves for Thailand

Yangon, 24 April Ñ Director-General of Myanma Radio and Television U Khin Maung Htay and Assistant Engineer U Hlaing Moe of Ministry of Information left here by air for Thailand this morning to attend the 3rd Thaicom International User's Seminar TIUS to be held from 25 to 28 April in Thailand. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, officials and their families.

Malaysian delegation leaves for home

Yangon, 24 April — Malaysian media delegation led by Director Mr Zainal Abidin Bakar of Information Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia left here by air this afternoon. They were seen off at the airport by officials of the Ministry of Defence and officials of Malaysian Embassy.

This morning, the delegation viewed the multi-media class room of Institute of Education Practising Training School in Kamayut and attended the ceremony to present middle school level completion certificates.

Afterwards, it visited domestic room, painting room, computer application media lab, language lab, computer practising room, multi-media teaching lab of BEHS-1 in Dagon Township.

Minister for Forestry visits Ayeyawady Division

Yangon, 24 April — Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone visited Mubin, Kyaiklat, Pyapon and Bogalay on 21 April.The minister arrived at Kadonkani and Ayeya Villages in the evening.

He met members of Ward Peace and Development Councils, townelders and organizers of Ward and Village Union Solidarity and Development Associations.They discussed development of rural, re- cultivation of mangrove plantation and rare species plants in Byonehmwekyun and Kado-nkani forest reserves.The minister then went to Bogalay, Mawlamyinekyun, Kyonmangay, Myaungmya and Pathein. The minister arrived back here this evening.

( 6 ) Meeting on breeding of prawns held

Yangon, 24 April-The meeting for breeding prawn of Fisheries, Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries was held at the hall of Fisheries Department on Hsinmin Street in Ahlon Township this morning, attended by Chairman of Extended Meat & Fish Breeding and Production Committee Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Vice-Chairman Minister for L&F Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein and committee members, officials from FAO and entrepreneurs.Ê Secretary of the committee Deputy Director-General of Fisheries Department U Hla Win delivered a speech. Consultant Dr Nyan Taw of FAO explained Shrimp Farming Technologies, Managing Director Mr Mark Ingley of Salt Creek Co Ltd, USA on Artemia, feedstuff for shrimps, and Managing Director Mr T C Yeap of Sainhall Singapore Co, Singapore on fry shrimp camps. The attendance also took part in the discussions.

Minister attends opening of Tatmadaw Agriculture Course

Yangon, 24 April-Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin attended opening ceremony of Tatmadaw Agriculture Course No 42 held at Central Model Farm of Agriculture in Hmawby this morning. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said: efforts are being made for boosting of sown acreage and per care yield of main crops of the StateÑrice, cotton, sugar-cane and pulses and beans.

Tasks for exceeding of rice, sufficiency of edible oil, boosting of production of pulses and beans and industrial raw materials are being implemented forming regional zones. Basic needs for the people food, shelter and clothing are being produced by agriculture sector.

In order to achieve goals, changes in agricultural techniques, the use of machinery, efforts for availability of water and cultivation of fine strains are being made. He urged the trainees to make the best use of what they have to study in the course all over the country. Afterwards, the minister and party inspected construction of Thonze Dam being constructed by Construction Group 6 of Irrigation Department near Hlelanku village in Thayawady, Bago Division. Officials reported to the minister on work and he left necessary instructions. Then, they inspected construction of Thonze diversion weir and gave necessary instructions.

Leading Patrons of MWSF meet

Yangon, 24 April— The meeting of the Leading Patrons of Myanmar Women’s Sports Federation was held at National Indoor Stadium-1 in Thuwunna this morning.

Present were Head of the Leading Patrons of the federation Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Leading Patrons Daw Khin Than Nwe, Daw Khin Cho Oo and members, President of the federation Professor Dr Daw May May Yi and executives.President Prof Dr Daw May May Yi reported on holding of the meeting. Vice-President Daw Nu Nu Yi on athletes under training for taking part in the XXI SEA Games and prize presenation programmes.

CEC member meets USDA executives

Yangon, 24 April— Member of Central Executive Committee of the Union Solidarity and Development Association U Aung Khin met secretaries, executives and organizers of Kyaikto, Bilin, Thaton and Paung district and township USDAs at the respective USDA offices on 21 April.

On 22 April, the CEC member met State, District and Township secretaries and executives from Mawla- myine, Chaungzon, Mudon, Kyaikmaraw, Thanbyuzayat and Ye at Mon State USDA Office.

In the evening, the CEC member and Deputy Commander of South-East Command Brig-Gen Myo Hla attended the 19th homage-paying ceremony to Sayadaws of All Ganas..

Yesterday morning, the CEC member delivered an address at opening of the
Basic and Advanced Marine Courses (Mawlamyine Camp) at Yamanya Hall of Mon State Peace and Development Council. Also present were USDA CEC member Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Myo Hla, Acting Commander of Mawrawady Naval Region Command Captain Maung Maung Thit and officials.

( 7 ) Minister inspects construction of Thanlyin Bridge No 2

Yangon, 24 April-Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials from Public Works, arrived at the construction site of Yangon-Thanlyin Bridge No 2 this afternoon. At the briefing hall, Superintending Engineer U Myint Lwin briefed him on progress of construction of piers and plans to construct approach bridges and collection of materials to the minister who gave necessary instructions on completion of tasks in time, worksite safety and systematic utilization of machinery and materials. After attending to the needs, he inspected the site.

New Generation Marine Courses open

Yangon, 24 April — A ceremony to open the Basic Marine Course No 1/2001 and Advanced Course No
1/2001 for New Generation of Defence Services (Navy) (Pathein Camp), co-organized by Union Solidarity and Development Association and Commander-in-Chief (Navy)’s Office, was held at Kanthaya Forestry Nursery Garden in Pathein on 23 April.

Present were Patron of Ayeyawady Division USDA Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, Deputy Command Brig-Gen Tint Swe, officials and trainees.The commander gave a speech. Then, Captain Aye Pe (Navy) of Pathein Station explained the purpose of opening of the training course.A total of 53 trainees are attending the basic course and 22 the advanced course. The courses will last five months each.

Basic Aviation Courses for New Generation open

Yangon, 24 April— A ceremony to open the Basic Aviation Course No 1/2001 for New Generation of Defence Services (Air), co-organized by Union Solidarity and Development Association and Commander-in-Chief (Air)’s Office, was held at Kaytu Yadana Hall in Toungoo on 23 April.

Present were Bago Division USDA Patron Commander of Southern Command Maj-Gen Tin Aye, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Thura Maung Ni, Brig-Gen Thura Myint Thien of Toungoo Station, officials and guests.

The commander gave an opening speech.Similarly, the Basic Aviation Course No 1/2001 for New Generation was held at the City Hall in Myitkyina on 23 April.

Marine Courses for New Generation open in Mandalay, Myeik

Yangon, 24 April— A ceremony to open the Basic Marine Course No 1/2001 and Advanced Course No 1/2001 for New Generation of Defence Services (Navy), co-organized by Union Solidarity and Development Association and Commander-in-Chief (Navy)’s Office, was held at Mandalay Division USDA Office yesterday, with an address by Mandalay Division USDA Patron Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint.

Also present were Mandalay Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Nay Win, Tactical Operations Commanders, Acting Commander of Naval Training Command Cmdr Myint Thein and officials.

The commander gave a speech. Mandalay Division USDA Secretary U Tin Maung Oo accepted K 610,000 donated by Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council through Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint and K 150,000 by Mandalay City Development Committee through the mayor. A total of 50 trainees are attending the basic course and 15 at the advanced course. The courses will last five months each.

Similarly, the basic and advanced courses for new generation were held at Pale Yadana Hall in Myeik yesterday. Taninthayi Division USDA Patron Commander of Coastal Region Command Brig-Gen Aye Kyway, Commander of Taninthayi Naval Region Command Commodore Soe Myint, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Tin Latt, officials and trainees. At the opening ceremony, Commander Brig-Gen Aye Kyway and Naval Command Commander Commodore Soe Myint accepted K 1.15 million donated by 11 wellwishers

Present were Deputy Commander of Northern Command Brig-Gen San Tun, Commander of Myitkyina Air Base Brig-Gen Bo Kyi, officials and guests.A similar course was opened at Kandaw Mingala Hall in Meiktila on 23 April.Present were No 99 LID Commander Brig-Gen Htay Oo, Ground Training Base Commander Col Thura Khin Maung Win and officials.

Coord meeting on publication of Nation-building Endeavours held

Yangon, 24 April- The Nation-building Endeavours Vol IV Compilation Work Committee, various committees and departments concerned held the coordination meeting at Room No 107 on First Floor of the Pyithu Hluttaw Building on Pyay Road this morning. Present were Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, departmental officials and guests. Vice-Chairman of Leading Committee for Publication of the Nation-building Endeavours Vol IV Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aung Thein presided over the meeting. On behalf of the work committee for compilation, Vice-Chairman U Kyaw Hsan reported on compilation and publication matters. Those present at the meeting took part in the discussions. Then, the deputy minister gave the concluding remarks.

Robin-engines introduced

Yangon, 24 April-A presentation on introduction of Robin-type new EX series OHC engine jointly organized by Fuji Heavy Industries of Japan, Twin Star Co Ltd and KOL Global Co Ltd was held at Sedona Hotel this morning. Manager Mr Kuratal of Second Overseas Sales Department of Fuji Heavy Industries, Managing Director Mr Iwasa Hiroshi of FHI (Singapore) and Sales Executive Mr Eddy Yap Kok Leong explained new Robin product, products of Fuji Heavy Industries to be sold in Myanmar and future tasks. Out of the engines used in small industries, EX series engines is manufactured with the use of latest technology OHC. It has low fuel consumption and low noise and is suitable for construction equipment. A demonstration of maintenance on Robin-type engines, generators and water pumps will be held at International Business Centre on 25 April.

Yangon, 24 April-A ceremony to open the archway of Atuladipati Maha Munithetkya Koehtatgyi Pagoda was held at the pagoda on Bagaya Road in Sangyoung Township this morning, attended by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than.

Also present were members of the Sangha led by Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Aungmyebonsan Sayadaw Bhaddanta Panindabhivamsa, Daw Khin Than Nwe, wife of Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Hsan Hsint, members of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, Chairmen of District and Township Peace and Development Councils in Yangon Division, wellwishers and guests.

Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Hsan Hsint, donor of the archway U Sein Twe (Ginza Hla Construction) and member of the Board of Trustees U Aye Su formally opened the archway. Minister U Aung Khin, Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein and Chairman of Sangyoung Township Peace and Development Council U San Win formally opened Thantithuhka Dhammayon. Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than formally unveiled the stone plaque of the Dhammayon. Next, the congregation received the Nine Precepts from Sayadaw Bhaddanta Panindabhivamsa. Members of the Sangha recited Metta Sutta.

Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than supplicated on religious matters. The commander, the minister, the deputy minister and officials presented offertories to the members of the Sangha. Chairman Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein reported on renovation of Atuladipati Maha Munithetkya Koehtatgyi Pagoda. Sayadaws delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

Carving Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni coordinated

Yangon, 24 April— The Committee for Carving Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image held the coordination meeting at the briefing hall on Ming Dhamma Hill in Insein Township this evening.

Present were Chairman of the Committee Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko, Vice-Chairman Deputy Minister for Science and Technology U Nyi Hla Nge, members, departmental officials, technicians and members of the Image Board of Trustees.

Chairman Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko and Vice-Chairman Deputy Minister U Nyi Hla Nge gave speeches. All round discussions were the held.

Yangon, 24 April — Wellwisher Daw Yin Yin Htwe of Shwe-hninzi Street, Mayangon, donated K 500,000 for Shwedagonlay Pagoda of Thanatpin Township at a ceremony held at the briefing hall on Mindhamma Hill in Insein this afternoon.

Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko and Deputy Minister for Science & Technology U Nyi Hla Nge accepted it.

Second leg of New Generation Golf Tournament begins

Yangon, 24 April—The second leg of Han Golf Masters’ New Generation Age-Wise Golf Tournament, organized by Myanmar Golf Federation and mainly sponsored by Pan-West and Han Golf Masters Pte Ltd started at Silvery Golf Course of YCDC this morning.

After the first round, Phone Myat Min Khaing was leading with 47 strokes in age 10 and under level. The runners-up were Lin Moe Tun with 49 and Nyan Lin Thant with 51.

Yan Myo Aye was leading with 39 strokes in age 11-12 level. The runners-up were Nay Bala Win Myint with 40 and Nyein Chan Soe with 41.Phyo Tayza Aung was leading with 83 strokes in age 13-14 level. Yan Naing Phyo stood second with 86, and Wai Phyo Min Tun and Ye Kyaw Thu shared the third with 90 each.

Zaw Zaw Win and Phyo Kyaw Kyaw tied at the first place with 81 strokes each, and Thet Zaw Htwe, Derek Htet Doe and Naing Naing Lin shared the second with 82 each. In ladies division, Miss Ji Hyui Lee (Korea) was leading with 79 strokes, and the runners-up were Hnin Marlar (Myanmar) with 98 and Na Yeong Kim (Korea) with 101.Star Ice-cream, Canon, Rapier, Wilson and City Golf Resort Club also sponsored the tournament. The second round continues tomorrow.

( 9 ) Nearly 99,540 pounds of monosodium glutamate torched

Yangon, 24 April — Nearly 99,540 pounds of monosodium glutamate, valued at about K 100 million in street price, were torched near Yoegyi-Yoele village in Hlinethaya Township here today.

Of the destroyed monosodium glutamate, 490 packages each containing 96 500-gram Ajinomoto brand packs, 300 packages each holding 100 one-pound Palace brand packs, and 200 packages each comprising 100 500-gram Spoon brand packs were seized owner-less on board a boat on Yangon River on 21 February. Port police patrols stopped the boat for search near Myitthonhsai, but the crewmen dived into the river and escaped.

In addition to the above seizure, 500 packages of Palace brand monosodium glutamate were seized on a hived vehicle at 11.15 pm on 13 March. The Police of Mingala Taungnyunt Station while making a traffic search near Mahsalaset bus stop on Banya Dalla Road found the sweetening agent. Forty 500-gram packs of Red Leaf brand monosodium glutamate were also seized in a warehouse on Theikpan Street, Hsinmin Ward, Ahlon Township, at 4.50 pm on 18 April.

The seized monosodium glutamate were torched under the supervision of the officials.

Present on the occasion were No 1 Military Region Commander Col Hla Myint, Chairman of Yangon Division Seized Monosodium Glutamate and Soft Drinks Destruction Committee Staff Officer (Grade-1) of Yangon Command Lt-Col Thein Hsint, Yangon Police Division Commander Police Col Tin Win, local authorities of Hlinethaya Township and officials.

Heroin seized in Nawnghkio

Yangon, 24 April— A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched a Hilux car with number plate Na/3890 of Mayshow Bus Association leaving Lashio for PyinOoLwin, at the check-point in Nawnghkio, Shan State (North), on 8 April.

They seized 0.0508 kilo of herion in eight London cigarette cases of Ram Won Oak, son of U Khwa Bwe of Zalthu Village, Falam Township. Action is taken against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
