(1) Secretary-1 attends merit sharing ceremony in Yadana Beikman monastic education  school

YANGON, 2 Dec - A ceremony to share merit for construction of two-storey building of Yadana Beikman monastic education school in Kyaukyaydwin Ward, Mayangon Township, was held at the building this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Present also were Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Aungmyaybonsan Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Pannindabhivamsa, Yadana Beikman monastic education school Sayadaw Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddantanandobhasa and members of the Sangha, the ministers, the deputy ministers, the vice-mayor, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of departments, wellwishers Dr Aung Lwin and wife Daw Thet Sanda (Pyi Phyo Tun International Co Ltd) and family and guests. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party received the Five Precepts from Bhaddanta Panindabhivamsa. Members of the Sangha recited parittas.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party presented offertories to members of the Sangha. Wellwishers Dr Aung Lwin and wife Daw Thet Sanda and family presented K 15 million for the two-storey building to Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Vice-Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Aungmyaybonsan Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Pannindabhivamsa delivered a sermon. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, wellwishers Dr Aung Lwin and wife Daw Thet Sanda and family shared the merits. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt performed the rituals of golden and silver shower to mark the success of ceremony. Then, they offered "soon" to members of the Sangha.



(2)Secretary-1 inspects all-round construction of Mindhamma Hill

YANGON, 2 Dec- Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung and officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, arrived at Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township at 12.35 p.m. today. The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed there by Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko, officials of the Min-dhamma Hill All-round Construction Committee, scholars and members of Mindhamma Hill Board of Trustees. First, the Secretary-1 inspected progress of carving Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image.

Then, the Secretary-1 inspected the carving work of the Image. Stone sculptor U Taw Taw reported on tasks undertaken and to be undertaken. The Secretary-1 gave necessary instructions. Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko reported on arrangements to enable the public to pay obeisance to Buddha images, beads and stone rings made of marble pieces obtained from carving the Image, progress in all-round construction work of the hill and requirements. The Secretary-1 gave necessary instructions and attended to their needs. Afterwards, the Secretary-1 inspected construction of Gandhakuti Kyaungdawgyi, the retaining walls and two stairways of the hill.

Next, the Secretary-1 also inspected paintings and sculptures to be installed at Gandhakuti Kyaungdawgyi and two stairways. Myanmar handicraft technician U Ohn Tin reported on tasks being carried out. Later, the Secretary-1 left instructions related to all-round construction work of the hill. He also had a cordial meeting with the people who arrived at the hill to pay reverence to the Image.


(3) Provisions offered to Kyagu Dhamma Beikman, Kyagu Pariyatti Sarthintaik

YANGON, 2 Dec- Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and wellwishers offered rice to Kyagu Dhamma Beikman and Kyagu Pariyatti monasteries in Yawmingyi Ward in Dagon Township at a ceremony at Kyagu Dhamma Beikman this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Also present on the occasion were the chairman of Township Sangha Nayaka Committee and presiding Nayaka Sayadaws of the monasteries, the deputy ministers, senior military officers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and departments concerned, officials and well-wishers. Chairman of Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Kaba Aye Kyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Revata administered the Five Precepts. Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party offered provisions to the Sayadaws. Next, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe Thein, Chief of Staff (Air) Maj-Gen Myint Swe and Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo presented rice donated by Tatmadaw families to the Township Chairman Sayadaw.

Afterwards, wellwishers offered 66 bags of rice, 20 viss of edible oil, 100 viss of iodized salt, 10 tubes of tooth paste, 350 bottles of traditional medicines and robes to Presiding Nayaka Sayadaws of two monasteries. They then presented cash towards the funds of the monasteries to Chief of Staff (Air) Maj-Gen Myint Swe, Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Brig-Gen Than Tun, Deputy Minister for Labour Brig-Gen Win Sein, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe Thein and Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo. Director of People' Militia and Frontier Forces Brig-Gen Than Maung supplicated on the purpose of the donations and Director-General of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana U Sann Lwin on religious matters. Lecturer Sayadaw of Kyagu Dhamma Beikman Bhaddanta Indobhasa delivered a sermon. Then, the Secretary-2 and party shared merits gained.

Minister receives China National Tourism Administration official

YANGON, 2 Dec - Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin received Vice-Chairman of China National Tourism Administration Mr Sun Gang and party at the Inya Hotel this morning. Also present were Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Mr Liang Dong and officials of the departments and services under the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

Minister receives foreign guests

YANGON, 2 Dec-Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin received Managing Director Maj-Gen (Retired) Mr Ruhul Alam Chowdhury of Armada Limited, Managing Director Mr Tom Cornish of GAINS Communications and Chairman Mr Harry Pomeroy of Gaind Communications EQUITEL Communications of Bangladesh at his office this morning respectively. (5) Ministry of H & T and CNTA sign MoU on cooperation in tourism industry

YANGON, 2 Dec - The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and China National Tourism Administration signed Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in tourism industry at the Inya Lake Hotel at 11 am today. Present on the occasion were Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Mr Liang Dong, Vice-Chairman of China National Tourism Administration Mr Sun Gang and party and heads of departments and services under the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism. Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu and Vice-Chairman Mr Sun Gang signed the MoU and exchanged documents. Before the MoU was signed, Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu and the Chinese delegation led by Vice-Chairman Mr Sun Gang discussed cooperation in tourism industry at the same venue in the morning.

Vice-Chairman of CNTA visits National Museum and Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON, 2 Dec - Vice-Chairman of China National Tourism Administration Mr Sun Gang and party, accompanied by officials of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, visited the National Museum on Pyay Road this afternoon. Then, they proceeded to Maha Bandoola Bridge and viewed the bridge by car. Afterwards, they visited Shwedagon Pagoda. Director-General of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism U Khin Maung Latt hosted a dinner to them at Royal Garden Restaurant.


(6) Seminar on irrigation techniques soil disinfestation & mulch

YANGON, 2 Dec-Seminar on Modern Irrigation Techniques and New Approach to Soil Disinfestation and Soil Mulch, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, and Myanmar Academy of Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock and Fisheries Science (Academy of Agricultural Science) was held at the meeting hall of Myanma Agriculture Service, Kanbe, Yankin Township, here, this morning. Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn Myint, Vice-Chairman of MAAFLFS Dr Myint Thein and members, directors-general and managing directors of departments and enterprises under the ministry, scholars of Israel, entrepreneurs of private horticulture companies, those in charge of horticulture sections and enthusiasts. Scholar Mr Gad Moses discussed modern irrigation techniques and Scholar Mr Ziv Bar, New Approach to Soil Disinfestations and Soil Mulch. Afterwards, queries raised by those present were answered. Then, Vice-Chairman Dr Myint Thein spoke words of thanks. The seminar ended with concluding remarks by the vice-chairman.

Minister for Cooperatives inspects milling, production of edible oil

YANGON, 2 Dec - Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San inspected milling and production of edible oil in Pakokku, Magway Division, yesterday. Accompanied by departmental officials, the minister arrived at the 10-barrel capacity edible oil mill of Ayeyar Anauk Myodaw General Economic Cooperative Syndicate Ltd in Pakokku and inspected production of groundnut oil. Officials conducted them round the mill and reported on purchase of groundnut, milling and marketing.

Deputy Director of Magway Division Cooperative Department U Maung Win explained the milling and production of groundnut oil in Magway, Pakokku, Yezagyo and Minhla with the supervision of the Ministry of Cooperatives, marketing of groundnut oil in Yangon, Mandalay and other cities, and programmes to run edible oil mills in Aunglan and Myaing. Minister U Aung San gave suggestions on production of hygienic groundnut oil, the need to make plans for the cooperative syndicate to earn profit and sell edible oil at prices cheaper than local price, adequate supply of groundnut, production of value-added products through cooperative system and production of groundnut oil all the year round.

Afterwards, the minister inspected the maize purchased from Saw and Htilin and packaged for export, and gave instructions on speedy purchase, transport and export. He visited Pakokku weaving high school and presented clothes donated by International Academy Association (IAA) of the Republic of Korea to the trainees.


(7) Commander inspects agricultural and development work in Htantabin and Taikkyi Townships

YANGON, 2 Dec-Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, together with Secretary of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint and departmental officials, inspected agricultural matters and regional development tasks in Htantabin and Taikkyi Townships this morning.

The commander inspected construction of Kyudaw-Kyaman earth road undertaken by Dagon Agricultural Group. Chairman of the group U Win Aung reported on progress of work, reclamation of Baw-lekyun wetlands, harvesting of 3,000 acres of monsoon paddy, cultivation of 350 acres of summer paddy and 160 acres of pulses and beans and arrangements to dig 2,000 acres of fish ponds. The commander inspected the harvesting of pre-monsoon paddy and cultivation of summer paddy.

The commander met departmental officials, national entrepreneurs and local people and discussed establishment of agricultural and livestock breeding zones in Bawlekyun in Htantabin Township and Aikkalaung-kyun region in Taikkyi Township. Head of Division Settlement and Land Records Department U Naing Win reported on reclamation of lands to be used for livestock breeding work and the digging of fish ponds in wetlands.

The commander inspected the axis of  7-mileThabyedan-Kataingsein- Chaungthongwa-Beindaw earth road and construction of 8-mile Thabyedan-Zwemu-Myetaing earth road. Chairman of Taikkyi Township Peace and Development Council U Myint Than reported on construction of 15-mile Tawlati-Danubyu road, Director U Soe Tint of Yangon Division Development Affairs Department on construction of roads and bridges, Division Engineer U Soe Nyunt of the Public Works on extension of roads and construction of bridges and Head of Division Water Resources Utilization Department U Myint Soe on Thabyedan water pumping project.

The commander then met officials and gave instructions on regional development, cultivation of paddy and beans and pulses and oil crops. A total of 6,575 acres of summer paddy, 15,603 acres of pulses and beans and 5,392 acres of oil crops have been cultivated in Taikkyi Township.

Extended prawn breeding work coordinated

YANGON, 2 Dec-The Extended Prawn Breeding Committee held its coordination meeting on extended prawn breeding in Kyauktan Zone, at the meeting hall of Fisheries Department in Kyauktan Township, Yangon South District, this morning. It was attended by Chairman of the committee Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Vice-Chairman Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Secretary Deputy Minister U Aung Thein, Committee Member Regional In-Charge of Yangon Division Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, sub-committee members and livestock entrepreneurs of the zone. Committee Chairman Minister Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe made a speech on the occasion.

Then, Regional In-Charge of Yangon Division Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan reported on progress of work and future tasks.  This was followed by a general round of discussions. Committee Vice-Chairman Minister Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein discussed obtaining shrimp fry and breeding on schedule. Committee Chairman Minister Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe attended to their needs. The committee chairman, committee vice-chairman and officials inspected work being carried out for extended breeding of prawn project on the bank of Hmawwun Creek in Kyauktan Township.

Deputy Minister for A & I tours sugarcane special zones

YANGON, 2 Dec - Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung inspected the sugarcane special zone projects on 29 November. He inspected harvesting of sugarcane in Nyaungbintha Village in Phyu Township and land preparation work for cultivation of sugarcane. He also gave instructions on the sugarcane special zone projects. He toured Ngamway Dam north of Zeyawady, Kyetpaung Chaung sugarcane purchase depot and Zeyawady Sugar Mill. He also inspected Bongyi Creek where a dam can be built. In meeting with farmers of Thitngottan Village near Bongyi Creek, the deputy minister left suggestions on establishment of sugarcane special zones. He later inspected Thaphanzin sugarcane purchase depot and areas irrigated by Sittoung River water-pumping project.


(8) Minister offers soon to members of the Sangha

YANGON, 2 Dec-Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Deputy Minister Thura U Thaung Lwin and officials of the ministry offered soon and provisions to members of the Sangha of State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon) at Mogok Soonsarhsaung of the Tekkatho on Kaba Aye Hill this morning. First, Registrar Sayadaw of the Tekkatho Agga Maha Gandhavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Kumara administered the Five Precepts. Then, the minister and officials donated provisions to Sayadaws, followed by sharing of merits. Afterwards, the minister and party offered soon to members of the Sangha.

Cornerstones laid for Jinarohini ordination hall of Myanmar monastery in India

YANGON, 2 Nov-A ceremony to lay cornerstones for Thakkaneinmitayon Kyaung and Jinarohani ordination hall at Myanmar monastery, Haryana State, near New Delhi, India, was held at the monastery on 21 November. Managing Director of Htoo Trading Co Ltd, No 5, Pyay Road, Hline Township, U Teza-Daw Thida Zaw and family donated US$ 25,000 for the construction of the Thakkaneinmitayon Kyaung and Proprietors of Sein & San Co Ltd, Room No 10, Building No 273, Yankin East Ward 2, Yankin Township, U Sein Hla Win-Daw Phyu Phyu Khin and family and U San Maung-Daw Kyin Than and family donated US$ 7,000 for the construction of the ordination hall. The ceremony was attended by wellwisher families, invited local presiding Nayaka Sayadaws and Myanmar laity of Bodhgaya Missionary Group No 22/2000 and 23/2000. Organized by Paradesi Padana Nayaka Sayadaws in India and led by Patrons of Bodhgaya Missionary Federation Thiha Thudamma Manijotadhaya Thaddhammajotika Shwe-myintin U Nyo and Thiha Thudhamma Theingi Daw Aye Aye Kyi, the cornerstones were laid for the ordination hall, at 10.30 am, and for Thakkanneinmitayon Kyaung at 11 am. Shwe-myintin U Nyo presided over the ceremony. Secretary of Paradesi Sangha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhad-danta Vunnadhaja administered the Five Precepts. Dhamma Kathika Sayadaw of MraukU, Rakhine State, delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained. Then, on behalf of the wellwishers, Thiha Thudhamma Theingi Daw Aye Aye Kyi and Daw Phyu Phyu Khin performed rituals of golden and silver showers to mark the success of the ceremony. Afterwards, US$ 2,000 was donated to the new Budhgaya monastery and US$ 2,000 to the new Thawutthi monastery. Later, 1,000 lights, 1,000 flowers, 1,000 cups of water and 1,000 plates of "soon "were offered to Maha Bodhi Pagoda.


(9) MA's F-28 Fokker jets flying to Kengtung in near future

YANGON, 2 Dec - Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander of the Triangle Region Command Maj-Gen Thein Sein inspected Kengtung Airport yesterday. The airport runway is being rebuilt to become 8,000 feet long and 150 feet wide, and the renovated  area of the runway is 7,000 feet by 75 feet. The project for expansion of the runway is meant for F-27 Fokker and F-28 Fokker jet aircraft's. Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint arrived at Kengtung Airport on F-28 Fokker Jet flight, which practised landing and take-off three times on the renovated area of the runway. Afterwards, the commander and the deputy minister inspected the construction work and gave instructions on speedy completion of the project. F-28 Fokker Jets will fly to Kengtung in the near future.

Charity Fair held at Hninzigon Home for the Aged

YANGON, 2 Dec-The 39th Charity Fair of Hnin-zigon Home for the Aged took place at the home on Kaba-Aye Pagoda Road this evening. Present were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Director-General of Social Welfare Department U Sit Myaing, departmental officials, the chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council, and officials. Chairman of Management Board of the home Chairman of Central Committee for Organizing the 39th Charity Fair U Maung Tin extended greetings. Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa made a speech. Then, vocalist Daw Yi Yi Thant sang the verse of the fair. Afterwards, Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein and officials formally opened and viewed the fair. Vocalist Daw Yi Yi Thant and party and Shwegaba Anyeint troupe presented entertainment's at the fair.


(10) 26 members resign from Myittha Township NLD

YANGON, 2 Dec - Twenty-six members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Myittha Township, Mandalay Division. Twenty-six members of Myittha Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Myittha Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 28 July 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
