(1) Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing arrive back from Singapore

YANGON, 25 Nov- Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing arrived back here from Singapore by special flight at 5.30 p.m. today after attending the Fourth ASEAN Informal Summit and Meetings of the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and Heads of State/Government of the people's Republic of china Japan and the Republic of Korea held in Singapore from 23 to 25 November at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong.

Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing were welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Kyi Min, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than,  Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt-Gen Tin Tun and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla, Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and their wives, ministers, senior Tatmadaw officers of the Ministry of Defence,  Dean of Diplomatic Corps Ambassador of Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Ly Bounkham and Ambassadors and Charge d' Affairs ai of the foreign embassies in Myanmar, resident representatives of UN agencies and their wives, military and civilian officials. Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and Deputy Minister for Health Professor Dr Kyaw Myint also arrived back on the same flight. Minister at the State Peace and Development Council chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel and Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung also arrived back here after attending the ASEAN foreign ministers and economic ministers meetings.

Informal Summit, Meeting of Heads of  State/Govt. of ASEAN and Heads of State/Govt. of PRC, Japan and ROK

YANGON, 25 Nov- The Fourth ASEAN Informal Summit took place at Tower Ballroom A of the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore yesterday morning.

Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe attended it.

Also present were His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen of Cambodia, President of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid, Prime Minister of the Lao people's Democratic Republic Mr Sisavath Keibounphanh, Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamed, President of the Philippines Mr Joseph Ejercito Estrada, Prime Minister of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong, Prime Minister of Thailand Mr Chuan Leekpai and Prime Minister of Vietnam Mr Phan Van Khai.

The heads of state/government of ASEAN nations posed for documentary photos. Chairman of ASEAN-EPG Professor Chin Tet Yung said that the Sixth ASEAN Formal Meeting held in Hanoi in December 1998 passed a decision to form ASEAN-EPG with the aim of implementing the ASEAN vision 2020. During the period from 1999 to 2000, ASEAN-EPG met five times. It was assigned the duty to give advice and make re-commendations for the six sectors concerning financial matters, trade and investment, social matters, education and culture, health, communications with non-ASEAN member nations and the further strengthening of organizations related to ASEAN, and it has already submitted a full report to the heads of ASEAN member nations. Then, heads of ASEAN member nations spoke words of praise to the Chairman of ASEAN-EPG for submitting the full report, and added that the report is to be studied in detail to ensure effective implementation of the vision. Afterwards, the Fourth ASEAN Informal Summit was held at Tower Ball- room A. The e-ASEAN Framework Agreement was signed in Island Ballroom B. Senior General Than Shwe attended the ceremony and signed the agreement.

Accompanying Senior General Than Shwe, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony. Also present were heads of state/government of ASEAN, ministers, ASEAN senior officers, senior economic officers, directors-general of ASEAN, the Secretary-General of ASEAN and delegation members. Chairman of High Level e-ASEAN Task Force Mr Roberto Romulo said that the e-ASEAN Framework Agreement is aimed at cooperating in improving competitiveness of the information and communication technology sector in the ASEAN region, cooperating in reducing the gap of technology among ASEAN member nations and inside ASEAN member nations each, promoting cooperation between the government and the private to recognize e-ASEAN and to ease restrictions on trade, services and investment of information and communication equipment, trade, with the aim of contributing to the initiation of e-ASEAN. The e-ASEAN Framework Agreement covers development of information infrastructure, facilitating e-commerce, the easing of restrictions for information and communication equipment, services and investment, development of human resources.

Measures for introduction of e-ASEAN are being taken. Afterwards, the Heads of State and Heads of Government of the ASEAN nations and the Heads of State and Heads of Government of the people's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea together had lunch in Summit Room.

Present at the meeting were the Heads of State and Heads of Government of the ASEAN nations, Premier Mr Zhu Rongji of the people's Republic of China, Prime Minister of Japan Mr Yoshiro Mori, and President of the Republic of Korea Mr Kim Dae Jung.

The Heads of State and Heads of Government of the ASEAN nations had meeting with each of the Heads of State and Heads of Government of China, Japan and Republic of Korea in Shangri-La Hotel Ballroom A. The meeting between the Heads of State and Heads of Government of the ASEAN nations and Premier Mr Zhu Rongji of the people's Republic of China took place in Shangri-La Hotel Tower Ballroom A at 9 am. Next, the meeting between the Heads of State and Heads of Government of the ASEAN nations and Prime Minister of Japan Mr Yoshiro Mori was held in Shangri-La Hotel Tower Ballroom A. After that, the meeting between the Heads of State and Heads of Government of the ASEAN nations and President of the Republic of Korea Mr Kim Dae Jung was held. Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe attended the Fourth ASEAN  Informal Summit, and the meetings between the ASEAN members and the dialogue partners of East Asia, China, Japan and Republic of Korea on 24 and 25 November. Senior General Than Shwe actively took part in the discussions on further consolidation of the ASEAN, challenges faced by the ASEAN and tasks to overcome these challenges, and promotion of cooperation with East Asian nations. Moreover, together with other ASEAN leaders, the Senior General signed a contract on exchange of information and greater cooperation in information and communication technology. During the meeting, the Senior General exchanged views on multilateral cooperation with other ASEAN leaders, and also had cordial discussions on bilateral cooperation with Premier Mr Zhu Rongji of the people's Republic of China, Prime Minister of Japan Mr Yoshiro Mori, and President of the Republic of Korea Mr Kim Dae Jung, leading to greater friendship among leaders.

The Senior General also had private discussions on bilateral matters with Premier Mr Goh Chok Tong. Before the ASEAN Informal Summit, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and Minister at the State Peace and Development Council chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel attended the Informal Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers, and the Informal Meeting of ASEAN Finance Ministers separately. Minister Brig-Gen Abel signed a contract concerned with CEPT on 23 November. The ASEAN Informal Summit and the ASEAN + 3 Informal Summit have brought about important results. On 23 November evening, Daw Kyaing Kyaing, wife of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe, and party attended the dinner in honour of wives of the ASEAN Heads of State/Government hosted by Mrs Lee Hsien Loong, wife of the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, at the Summit Room of Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore. Also present on the occasion were Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, wife of Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and Daw San Yon, wife of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, wives of the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and wives of Foreign Ministers of ASEAN and guests.

At 9 am on 24 November, Daw Kyaing Kyaing, wife of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe, and party together with wives of the ASEAN Heads of State/Government, visited Singapore Botanical Gardens in Singapore. Director Dr Chin See Chung extended greetings and explained matters related to the culture of new orchid species in commemoration of the Fourth ASEAN Informal Summit. Then, the guests viewed Dendrobium AIS orchid species and the orchid exhibition and contest in the gardens. Next, they arrived at the gallery of artist Henri Chen on Temenggong Street in Singapore. They viewed ancient artifacts of the artist. Afterwards, the guests visited CK Tong Department Store at the Marriott Hotel. Then, Mrs Jennifer Yeo, wife of the Minister of Commerce and Industry of Singapore, hosted a luncheon at Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel. During the luncheon, the guests enjoyed the fashion show. Next, they proceeded to National University Hospital in Singapore where they were welcomed by Chief Executive Officer Dr Lim Suet Wun and officials. Then, the Chief Executive Officer reported on health care assistance of Singapore and Medical Board Chairman Prof John Wong on treatment, research, training and academic matters of the National University Hospital. Afterwards, the guests visited the hospital.

This morning, Daw Kyaing Kyaing, wife of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe, and party paid obeisance to Buddha Image at Myanmar Monastery in Singapore. Then, Daw Kyaing Kyaing and party paid homage to Sayadaws Bhaddanta Andavamsa and Bhaddanta Kheminara and offered provisions to the Sayadaws. At 3.30 local time, Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and party arrived Changi International Airport for departure for home and they were seen off there by Minister of National Development Mr Lim Hng Kiang and wife and party, Myanmar Ambassador to Singapore U Myo Myint and wife and embassy staff and their families. Then, Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and party left Singapore and arrived back here this evening. The informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers was held at Shangri-La Hotel at 9 am on 23 November, attended by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung .

Also present were foreign ministers of ASEAN member countries, high-ranking officials and ASEAN Secretariat. The informal meeting of ASEAN economic ministers was held at Shangri-La Hotel at 10 am on 23 November, attended by Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman Office Brig-Gen Abel. Also present were ASEAN economic ministers, high-ranking officials and ASEAN Secretariat. The signing ceremony of the Protocol Regarding Implementation of the CEPT Scheme Temporary Exclusion List was held at Katong Room of Shangri-La Hotel. Minister at the State Peace and Development Council chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel and ASEAN economic ministers signed the agreement. Minister U Win Aung attended the dinner hosted in honour of ASEAN foreign ministers at Pink Azalea Room of Shangri-La Hotel on 22 November. Similarly, Minister Brig-Gen Abel attended the dinner hosted in honour of ASEAN economics ministers at Red Azalea Room of Shangri-La Hotel on 22 November. Minister U Win Aung met with Thai Foreign Minister Dr Surim Pitsuwan at Mandarian Singapore Hotel in Singapore on 22 November. Also present were Myanmar Ambassador U Myo Myint, departmental heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Secretary Mr Nitya Pibul Songgram of Foreign Ministry of Thailand, Thai Ambassador to Singapore Mr Adisak Panupong and high-ranking officials.

Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing welcome at Singapore

YANGON, 25 Nov -At the invitation of Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, together with Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party, left here for Singapore by special aircraft at 9 am on 23 November to attend the Fourth ASEAN Informal Summit and Meetings of the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and Heads of State/Government of the people's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea. The Senior General and wife and party arrived at Changi International Airport at 1.50 p.m. local time. The Senior General and wife and party were welcomed by Minister of Community Development and Sports Dr Abdullah Tarmugi of Singapore and party, Minister at the State Peace and Development Council chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel and Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, who were attending the ASEAN ministerial meetings, Ambassador of Myanmar to Singapore U Myo Myint and wife and embassy staff and families. Then, the Senior General and wife and party proceeded to the Mandarin Singapore Hotel, where they stayed while in Singapore.

Meeting with Prime Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong
 
YANGON, 25 Nov- Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe met with Prime Minister of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong at Isetan President Residence in Singapore at 4.15 p.m. on 23 November. Present together with Senior General Than Shwe were Secretary-1 of State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Minister at the State Peace and Development Council chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Myanmar Ambassador to Singapore U Myo Myint and departmental heads, and present together with Mr Goh Chok Tong were Minister of Foreign Affairs Professor S Jayakumar, Minister of Commerce and Industry Brig-Gen George Yeo and high-ranking officials.


(2) Secretary-2 inspects renovation at Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Image

YANGON, 25 Nov-  Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo paid obeisance to Chaukhtatgyi Shwethahlaung Reclining Buddha Image in Bahan Township at 11 am today and inspected all-round renovation of the Image and gave necessary instructions.

First, the Secretary-2 paid obeisance to the Image. Then, the Secretary-2 inspected new Gandhakuti Taik, renovation of the Image, sanitation work carried out and the environs and all-round renovation work and gave necessary instructions. At Sasana Vipulakari Maha Ordination Hall, Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein reported on tasks of renovation at the Image, implementation of tasks in keeping with the instructions by the Secretary-2 and financial matters. In this regard, the Secretary-2 said that committees must implement the all-round renovation of the Image in accord with work plans. Then, the donation ceremony for all-round renovation and gilding the Image was held.

Rice offered to Chaukhtatgyi Monastery
 
YANGON, 25 Nov- Rice donated by Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and wellwishers were presented to Chaukhtatgyi Phayagyi Monastery in Alei Shwegondaing Ward of Bahan Township at 11.30 am today, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Also present on the occasion were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, deputy ministers, senior military officers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and departments concerned, well-wishers and guests. Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo offered provisions to Presiding Nayaka of the monastery Agga Maha Gantha-vacaka Pandita Sayadaw Bhaddanta Suriya. Then, Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and senior military officers donated provisions to Deputy Presiding Nayaka Sayadaw Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Bhaddanta Vayaminda and members. Next, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe Thein, Chief of Staff (Air) Maj-Gen Myint Swe and Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo offered rice donated by Tatmadaw families to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Suriya. Wellwishers donated offertories to Sayadaws and cash towards the funds of the monastery to senior military officers. Director of people's Militia and Frontier Forces Brig-Gen Than Maung supplicated on the purpose of the donations. Then, Sayadaw Bhaddanta Nandobhasa delivered a sermon. Afterwards, the Secretary-2 and party shared merits gained.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspects Yangon Industrial Zone

YANGON, 25 Nov- Secretary 2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected Yangon Industrial Zone projects in the Mingaladon Garden City area, Mingaladon Township, today. In the briefing hall of A-1 Garment Factory, Director-General of the Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development U Arnt Kyaw explained to the Secretary 2, ministers, deputy ministers, senior military officers and entrepreneurs the projects to establish industrial zones in Hlinethaya, Shwepyitha, Dagon Myothit (South) and Yangon Industrial Zone. The Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development entered into contract with Zay Kaba Co Ltd on 24 February 2000 to establish Yangon Industrial Zone, and the projects started on 1 March. The zone to be established on 1,000 acres is being built on 500 acres in the first phase. Eight months after the initial steps had been taken, the newly-built zone has seen Shanghai Worldbest Co Ltd bringing in the largest investment among the companies establishing industries there.

Being located in an easily accessible area, the zone attracts foreign investors. On behalf of all investors there, Director of A-1 Construction and Trading Co Ltd U Kyaw Tint spoke of industrial establishments. Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo said the government sees to establishment of industrial zones for uplift of the industrial sector and noted that progress is being achieved in respective zones. The government, he said,
has successfully established industrial zones in Hlinethaya, Shwepyitha, Dagon Myothit (South) and in other places. As in the establishment of industrial zones, the government is providing assistance and giving permits to entrepreneurs in the agricultural zones.

Myanmar Investment Commission is also seeing to the needs of investors properly, he said and urged the industrialists and investors to do their best for development of their industrial establishments with the support of the government. Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut, Chairman of MIC Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha dealt with the tasks in respective sectors and pointed out the areas the entrepreneurs and industrialists can cooperate with ministries. Afterwards, the Secretary-2 and party inspected A-1 Garment Factory under construction. Establishment of 13 factories and mills includes six garment factories, two timber factories, four factories ready for sale or lease, and one packaging factory.

Minister visits Indakaw Industrial Zone

YANGON, 25 Nov - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin visited Indakaw Industrial Zone of the Ministry of Industry-2 in Indakaw region, Bago Division, this morning. Minister hosts dinner in honour of Minister of Rural Development of Malaysia

Yangon, 25 Nov- Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt and wife Daw Kyin Khaing hosted a dinner in honour of Minister of Rural Development of Malaysia Dato Azmi Khalid and wife Yang Berbahgia Datin Yasmin Abdullah and party at the Traders Hotel on Sule Pagoda Road at 7 p.m. today. The dinner was attended by Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung,  Deputy Ministers for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin and Brig-Gen Than Tun, Managing Director of Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd Brig-Gen Win Hlaing,  Ambassador of Malaysia Dato Mohammad Bin Noh, directors-general and officials.

Minister inspects schools in Mandalay Division

YANGON, 25 Nov- Minister for Education U Than Aung and officials inspected construction of extended classrooms and modern teaching aids at No 1 Basic Education High School in Lewe Township on 23 November. Headmistress Daw Khin Htwe and members of School Board of Trustees reported on works. The minister inspected newly-constructed Aung cetena hall of Lewe BEHS No 2. Headmistress Daw Khin Thaung Tun and officials reported on works. The minister inspected Myoma BEPS, construction of Inpu BEPS and Aung Yadana Yeiktha. He also inspected basic education schools in Pyinmana, Tatkon, Yamethin and Pyawbwe Townships.


(4) Nawaday Garden Community Centre inaugurated

YANGON, 25 Nov- An inauguration ceremony of Nawaday Garden Community Centre of Nawaday Advanced Housing Project constructed by Chensu-May Flower Co for development of Industrial City of Hlinethaya was held in front of the Community Centre this morning. Present were Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, deputy ministers, Vice-Chairman of Chensu-May Flower Co and Managing Director U Kyaw Win, General Manager Mr Peter Lee, officials and guests.

Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun and Managing Director U Kyaw Win formally opened the center. Director-General of Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development U Arnt Kyaw reported on the project and U Kyaw Win spoke. U Kyaw Win and Mr Peter Lee presented K 1 million for Shwe Thuwun monastery and K 20,000 each for welfare of Township Peace and Development Council and Maternal and Child Welfare Association. The guests observed the swimming pool and Club House. The Community Centre is built on 5.9 acres. The club house is 15,220 square feet. There are two swimming pools. The two-storey main building includes two large halls, one office, snack & bar counter, and other facilities on the ground floor. There are two function rooms and a gymnasium on second floor. Nawaday Advanced Housing Project started on 214 acres of land in 1995 with the investment of over K 4 billion. Altogether 353 single unit houses have been sold out and most of the 152 shop houses have been sold out.

YANGON, 25 Nov- Pre-conference of Bago Division (Western Branch) Myanmar War Veteran Organization was held at Khittaya Yadana Myodaw Hall on Bogyoke Street in Pyay this morning. Present were members of the Central Organizing Committee of MWVO Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun and Director-General of the Social Welfare Department U Sit Myaing, Commander of No 66 LID Brig-Gen Aung Min, Chairman of Bago Division (Western Branch) Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Phone Swe, division and district authorities, members of Bago Division (Western Branch), Thayawady District and Pyay District Supervisory Committees, departmental officials, Secretary of Bago Division (Western Branch) Union Solidarity and Development Association U Thet Oo Min and executive committee members, township authorities, members of Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Working Committee for women's Affairs and Myanmar Women Entrepreneurs Association of Bago Division (Western Branch), officials of Red Cross, Auxiliary Fire Brigade, Music Asiayon, Thabin Asiayon and merchants' Association, delegates to the Pre-conference and guests. Lt-Col Hla Wai (Retired), who chaired the Pre-conference, made an opening speech.

The topics discussed at the Pre-conference were the national political sector, the national defence and security sector, the economic sector, the social and welfare sector and the public welfare sector. Donations made to Bago Division (Western Branch) of MWVO included K 1 million by the Central Organizing Committee of MWVO, K 300,000 by Bago Division (Western Branch) Peace and Development Council and K 320,000 by District Peace and Development Councils, merchants' Association, All Private Bus-line Control Committee, Division Fishery Department and others.


(6) Malaysian minister's wife donates cash to MMCWA

YANGON, 25 Nov- Datin Yasmin Abdullah, wife of visiting Minister of Rural Development of Malaysia Dato Azmi Khalid, donated cash to Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association at MMCWA Building in South Okkalapa Township this afternoon. Present were Chairperson of MMCWA Prof Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Central Executive Committee members and the wellwishers. First, wellwisher Datin Yasmin Abdullah presented cash to Chairperson Prof Daw Kyu Kyu Swe. The Chairperson accepted the donations and presented a certificate of honour to the wellwisher.

PRC TV delegation visits Inlay, Taunggyi, Defence Services Museum

YANGON, 25 Nov- The Chinese TV delegation led by Vice Minister for General Bureau of Broadcasting, Motion Picture and Television of people's Republic of China Mr Li Shuwen arrived at Heho Airport yesterday afternoon. Members of the delegation were welcomed there by member of Shan State Peace and Development Council Shan State Commissioner of General Administration Department U Saw Hla, Deputy Police Commander of Shan State Police Force Police Lt-Col Tin Thaung and officials of the Ministry of Information. They visited Phaung-dawU Pagoda and offered Shwethingan to the Buddha images of the pagoda. The PRC TV delegation also visited Shwehintha weaving industries in Thalay Village, Inlay region. The PRC guests left Nyaungshwe for Taunggyi and spent the night in Taunggyi. Chinese Vice Minister Mr Li Shuwen and party called on member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo at Kyauksein Hall of Eastern Command this morning. They visited Taunggyi and left there for Yangon in the afternoon. The PRC delegation together with Deputy Director-General of MRTV Lt-Col Thein Aung visited Defence Services Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road at 4 p.m. today.



(7) Medical Seminar held

YANGON, 25 Nov- The first medical seminar sponsored by Snow Brand Milk Products Co Ltd was held at the Sedona Hotel here this morning. First, Marketing Manager Mr Mitsunobu Goto of the Co delivered the welcoming address. Dr Sarayut Supapnnachart of Ramathibodi Hospital of Thailand and Dr Aye Aye Thein of Central Women's Hospital gave talks on child health.

Myanmar London Golf Tour continues

YANGON, 25 Nov- The Sixth Leg of Myanmar London Golf Tour 2000-2001 continued for the second day at Kengtung Golden Triangle Golf Club in Kengtung, Shan State (East), this morning. Present were Deputy Commander of Triangle Region Command Brig-Gen Myint Swe, officials and local people. After the second round, Win Aung and Myint Shwe tied in the first position with 148 strokes each in the professional division. Win Naing Tun fired 149 and Myint Thaung, Aung Win and Tun Hlaing were 150 each. In the amateur division, Zaw Zaw Latt was leading with 139, Nanda Kyaw 151, Yin Aung Latt and Thein Zaw Myint were 156 each. Tiger Beer, Yangon Airways, Canon, Star Cola and Wilson jointly sponsor the tour with the aim of turning out outstanding players. The tour is being organized by Han Golf Masters Pte Ltd. The third round of the tour continues tomorrow.

Accounting and Management Course ends

YANGON, 25 Nov- Applied Accounting and Management Course jointly organized by the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Myanmar Accountants Association concluded at UMFCCI Training Centre on Bo Sun Pat Street this afternoon. Present were Adviser to UMFCCI Dr Kyaw Htin, Vice-President U Win Aung, General Secretary U Zaw Min Win and central executive committee members, course instructors, guests and trainees.
 
 


(8) Sarsodaw Day Book Fair opens

YANGON, 25 Nov- The opening ceremony of Sarsodaw Day Book Fair of Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association was held at Sarpay Beikman Building, near the Hanthawady Round- about, Pyay Road, this morning, attended by Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung. Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, directors-general, managing directors and directors of departments and enterprises under the ministry, advisers and chief editors of dailies and Myanmar News Agency (Internal), Chairman of MWJA U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung), Secretary U Hla Tun (Hla Tun-Twantay) and CEC members, Patron of Myanmar Foreign Correspondents Club U Sein Win, President U Sao Kai Hpa and members, departmental officials, literati, officials of publishing houses, students and guests. Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung and Chairman U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung) formally opened the fair.

Then, the minister and the guests viewed the book shops. Books on religion, general knowledge and creative literature and books in English are on sale at the shops of News and Periodicals Enterprises, Sarpay Beikman, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Thadinkaung Sarpay, Parami Sarpay, Wah Moe Aung Sarpay, Hsindewa Sarpay, Sarpay Lawka Publishing House, Kyi Hla Maung Sarpay, Daing Khin Khin Sarpay, Pyinnya Alinpya Publishing House, Today Publishing House, Ya Pyay Publishing House, Inwa Publishing House, Yan Aung Sarpay, Tin Shwe Sarpay, Khit Sarpay and Asia Book Publishing House. The books are on sale at the fair at special discount. The fair will be kept open until 1 December from 9 am to 5 p.m.


(9) 66 MraukU Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 25 Nov- Sixty-six members resigned from the National League for Democracy of MraukU Township, Rakhine State. Sixty-six members of MraukU Township NLD, Rakhine State, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to MraukU Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-Commission and the party concerned on 30 September 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
