Next, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented the modern teaching aids for  Kyaukme BEHS-1 and BEHS-2 to the respective school heads. Speaking on the  occasion, the Secretary-1 said that for uplift of the education standard of  the entire nation, officials of the Ministry of Education, scholars,  education officers and school heads met in 1997 to adopt education promotion  programmes.

The action plans aimed at training student youths to be outstanding in all  aspects, modernization of the education system and narrowing the educational  divide between urban and rural areas have been implemented stage by stage,  and Head of State Senior General Than Shwe has given guidance to implement  plans for promotion of the basic education sector in relation to the higher  education level on the third stage.

As the Senior General gave guidance on and set the objectives for uplift of  the national education standard to keep abreast with the top nations in  South-East Asia within four years, the national education promotion special  four-year plan was adopted and is being implemented in the higher education  level. In accord with the education promotion programmes and the national  education promotion special four-year plan, modern teaching techniques are  being applied, multi-media teaching centres opened and computer and IT  technology-based teaching centres established in basic education schools,  universities and colleges all over the country, he said and added that to  implement these tasks successfully within a short period, cooperation of  parents, wellwishers and school boards of trustees plays a vital role.

Modern multi-media teaching centres could be established in such a short time  because of the generous donation and active cooperation of parents,  wellwishers and school boards of trustees who are eager to see their children  develop allround, modernize the educational standard, and narrow and close  the educational divide between rural and urban areas.

It is significant and worthy of account to be able to open modern teaching  centres in two high schools of Kyaukme, a distant town, the Secretary-1 noted  and lauded local authorities, parents, wellwishers and school boards of  trustees for their harmonious efforts. This is one of the good results  accrued from the cooperation between the government and people, he said and  noted that the education sector is making good progress due to the  enthusiastic and industrious student youths and the systematic training and  teaching techniques practically applied by teachers.

The Secretary-1 expressed hope that in the very near future, Myanmar's  national education standard would be able to keep up with the top nations in  South-East Asia if efforts are to be made with gaining momentum applying the  modern teaching aids.

In conclusion, the Secretary-1 called on all to work unitedly for human  resource development that is key to emergence of a modern, developed nation  and for training student youths to be more outstanding and for modernization  of the national education standard.

After the ceremony, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party had a documentary  photo taken together with members of the School Boards of Trustees and PTAs  of Kyaukme BEHSÊ1 and BEHSÊ2, school heads, teachers and pupils. They arrived  back in Lashio in the evening and stopped for the night there.
