(1) General Maung Aye inspects development tasks in Mandalay, Sagaing Divisions

YANGON, 16 Sept- Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, accompanied by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Kyi Min, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than, the ministers, the deputy ministers and officials, left for Mandalay by Tatmadaw aircraft at 8.15 am this morning.

Then, the General and party proceeded to TaOhn Village of Singaing Township, Kyaukse District, by helicopter. Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Nay Win and officials welcomed the General and party. In the briefing hall near the village, the Commander reported to the General on matters related to construction tasks for regional development and future tasks. The General gave necessary instructions.

Then, the General and party went back to Mandalay by helicopter. At the meeting hall of Central Command Headquarters, the General and party and officials concerned discussed matters related to development of Mandalay region.

At 2 PM, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo, who accompanied the General, together with Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin and officials, left for Sagaing, Sagaing Division.

At Mya-E-ya Hall in Sagaing, the Commander reported to the Secretary-2 on development tasks being undertaken in Sagaing Division. Then, division level departmental officials reported on the work done by respective departments. After hearing the reports, the Secretary-2 gave necessary instructions.


(2) Secretary-1 attends opening of multimedia teaching centres in Maubin opening of the multimedia teaching centre

YANGON, 16 Sept-Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by the ministers, the deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and departmental officials, left here by a motorcade this morning and arrived Maubin, Ayeyawady Division, at 9.15 am today.

Then, a ceremony to open multimedia classrooms of No 1 and No 2 Basic Education High Schools of Maubin was held at the respective high schools this morning, with and address by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present on the occasion were member of the Commander Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, ministers, deputy ministers, officials at the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, members of district/township Peace and Development Councils, service personnel, well-wishers, the director-general of No 1 Basic Education Department and officials, the Township Education Officer, the School Heads, members of the School Board of Trustees and PTA, teachers and students.

First, the opening ceremony of multimedia classrooms of No 2 BEHS of Maubin was held at the school at 9.20 am today. Headmaster U Soe and Chairman of SBT U Tun Kyi formally opened the multimedia classrooms of the school. After that, Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt formally unveiled the signboard of the multimedia classrooms.

Later, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected Computer Application & E-Mail Computer Aided Instruction, Electronic Media (Language Lab), Electronic Media (Video System), Visual Presenter, Domestic Science Room, Arts Room, Printed Media (Reading Corner), and Music Room, and skills of the students.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party had souvenir photo taken together with members of the School Board of Trustees and PTA, well-wishers, school heads, teachers and students. The opening ceremony of multimedia classrooms of No 1 BEHS of Maubin was held at the school at 10.15 PM today.

Headmaster U Hla Myint Tin and Chairman of SBT U Kyin Win formally opened the multimedia classrooms of the school. Afterwards, Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt formally unveiled the signboard of the multimedia classrooms.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected Printed Media, Computer Aided Instruction, Computer Application & E-Mail, Language Lab, Electronic Media (Video System), Visual Presenter, Electronic Media, Domestic Science Room, Arts Room, Music Room, and skills of the students.

The collective opening of multimedia classrooms of No 1 and No 2 BEHSs of Maubin was held at No 1 BEHS of Maubin. Maubin Township Education Officer U Myat Oo made a speech on the occasion. Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt accepted the donations.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented video tapes and cassettes tapes on teaching aid for No 1 and No 2 BEHSs to Township Education Officer U Myat Oo. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said.

After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party, together with members of the school board of trustees and the parent-teacher association, the headmaster, teachers and students, had photos taken.

Then, the Secretary-1 and party proceeded to 100-acre Hsamalauk Monsoon Paddy Model Field in Nyaungdon Township.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 met with farmers engaged in cultivation of monsoon paddy at the model fields. The Secretary-1 gave instructions on the working of land in accord with modern systems suggested by officials and technicians of Myanma Agriculture Service.

Next, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the model fields. After that, the Secretary-1 and party proceeded to construction site of a hospital (16-bed) donated to the Ministry of Health by the rice and Fruit Company Ltd of Thailand.

Deputy Minister for Health Professor Dr Kyaw Myint and Managing Director of Diamond Enterprise Company Ltd U Sein Oo reported on emergence of the hospital, the location, area and layout plan of the hospital, water and power supply and communications. The Secretary-1 attended to the requirements. Later, the Secretary-1 inspected the construction site.

The hospital will comprise a main building, two patient wards, a building with four rooms for visiting physicians, a building with four rooms for doctors, a building for nurses, a hostel for the medical staff and will also be provided with modern medical equipment and the computerized management system.

Next, the Secretary-1 and party went to the wetland reclamation project of Myanmar Billion Group Company Ltd in Nyaungdon Township. Commander Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann , Brig-Gen Khin Maung and officials reported on geographical condition of Nyaungdonkyun, the building of the embankment, the digging of drains and the construction of the floodgate, assistance provided for cultivation work at Nyaungdonkyun and condition of cultivation of monsoon and summer paddy on reclaimed land.

The Secretary-1 called on officials to provide assistance for national entrepreneurs. The Secretary-1 and party arrived back here in the evening.


(3) Tatmadaw families, well-wishers donate provisions to monasteries, a nunnery in Sangyoung, Hline Townships

YANGON, 16 Sept- Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers donated provisions and cash towards the funds of Naynattha, Aungmingala Theikdi, Maha-myaing Phonephaya, Ashin Ottamathaya, Ayezedi, Masoe-yein, Wailuwun and Dhamma-zedi Monasteries in Sangyoung Township at Naynattha Monastery this morning.

Present were the deputy ministers, the vice-mayor, senior military officers, heads of the State Peace and Development Council Office and departments concerned, authorities of Yangon West District and Sangyoung Township, departmental officials, well-wishers and guests.

Chairman of Sangyoung Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Bhaddanta Janaka administered the Five Precepts. The deputy ministers and officials donated provisions to Sayadaws of eight monasteries. Deputy Adjutant-General Col Ye Tun, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe Thein and Chief of Staff (Air) Maj-Gen Myint Swe presented rice donated by Tatmadaw families for eight monasteries to the Chairman Sayadaw of Sangyoung Township Sangha Nayaka Committee.  The Township Chairman Sayadaw delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

Similarly, Tatmadaw families and well-wishers presented provisions and cash to Triyadana Nunnery in Ward 4 of Hline Township this morning. Senior military officers presented rice donated by Tatmadaw families to Presiding Nun Daw Panasingi of the nunnery. Then, well-wishers and departments donated provisions and K 184,500 to Nun Daw Panasingi. Director of People’s Militia and Frontier Forces Brig-Gen Than Maung supplicated on the purpose of the donations. Chairman of Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Padana Nayaka of Panditayama Monastery of Ward 13 Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pandita delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.


(4) Injector machine and accessories donated to MMCWA

YANGON, 16 Sept-Dr Sakubara of Japan and Kyoei Sha Company Ltd donated Injector Machine and accessories worth (Yan 4)million to Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association at Bayintnaung Hall of the Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel this morning. Present on the occasion were Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and CEC members, cardiac specialist Dr Hideo Tamai of Japan and party, Myanmar cardiac specialists, well-wishers and guests. First, Mr Hirofumi Hino explained the purpose of the donation. Then, Dr Hideo Tamai and Mr Hirofumi Hino presented the machine and accessories to Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, who presented a certificate of honour to the well-wishers and spoke words of thanks.


(5) Yangon full of hustle and bustle

YANGON, 16 Sept-Members of the Sangha and devout Buddhists crowded pagodas and holiday-makers thronged recreation centres, amusement parks and shopping centres today. Such pagodas as Tooth Relic (Yangon) and Thiri-mingalar Kaba Aye were teeming with Buddhist devotees and members of the Sangha making meritorious deeds.

Among them, tourists were also seen at the pagodas. Likewise, 500 members of Fire Brigade and Auxiliary Fire Brigade from North Okkalapa, Mingaladon and Hlegu Townships carried out cleaning work within the precinct of Hsutaungpyi Melamu Pagoda this morning. Director-General of Fire Services Department U Myint Tun and officials also participated in the activity. Led by Daw Mya Mya Win, U Myint Tun’s wife, the ponnyakayi women 'wut'  association recited religious verses. After the cleaning work, the director-general presented K 10,000 donated by Fire Services Department to Chairman of Pagoda Board of Trustees U Myint, who presented a certificate of honour to him. People’s Square and People’s Park was also crowded with holiday-makers, who were enjoying recreation and playing different kinds of games individually or in groups. Similarly, supermarkets, plazas, markets and stores were busy with customers.


(6) USDA Annual General Meeting passes three resolutions, approves one matter and placed two matters on record

YANGON, 16 Sept - The Annual General Meeting of the Union Solidarity and Development Association for Year 2000 held at the USDA executives Management Training School, the Central Public Relations Unit, Hmawby Township, Yangon Division, from 12 to 15 September passed three resolutions, approved one matter and placed two matters on record.

The three resolutions were to accept and follow as working guidelines the guidance given by Patron of USDA, to approve the motion submitted to the Annual General Meeting of the Union Solidarity and Development Association for 2000 and to approve the laying down of seven future tasks of USDA at various levels. The matter approved by the meeting was the report of USDA CEC submitted to the meeting. The two matters placed on record were progress of future tasks carried out in a year’s time by respective state and division associations and the findings of group discussions.


(7) Annual General Meeting of Union Solidarity and Development Association held

YANGON, 16 Sept- The Annual General Meeting of the Union Solidarity and Development Association for Year 2000 was held at Pyidaungsu Hall and other designated places of USDA executives Management Training School of the Central Public Relations Unit in Hmawby from 11 to 15 September. Present on the occasion were members of the Central Executive Committee of USDA and delegates of State/Division/District and Township USDAs. Before the meeting began, CEC members and delegates of State/Division/District and Township USDAs signed in the attendance books in Anawrahta Hall.

The preliminary coordination meeting of the Annual General Meeting of USDA for Year 2000 was held at Pyidaungsu Hall at 8.30 am on 11 September. Member of the Secretariat of USDA U Khin Maung Thein, CEC members U Ohn Myint and Thura U Myint Maung presided over the meeting. Reserve Executive of Ngaputaw Township USDA Daw Thin Pa Pa Win and Daw Kyu Kyu Aung of Gangaw Township USDA acted as master of ceremonies and joint-master of ceremonies.

Secretary-General of USDA U Than Aung explained the tasks of the Annual General Meeting. Then, five groups were formed to hold organizational, management, economic and social and cultural seminars and the seminar on USDA and its national role. Afterwards, lists of delegates who would participate in the respective groups were announced. The seminar on the organizational sector of the Group-1 was held at Myawady Hall. Member of the Secretariat U Win Sein, CEC members U Thein Sein, U Saw Tun, U Khin Maung and U Thaik Tun presided over the seminar. Executives of Hlaingbwe Township USDA U Saw Ohn Tin and EC member of Mingala Taungnyunt Township USDA U Zaw Lin acted as master of ceremonies and joint-master of ceremonies.

]first, Seminar Chairman U Win Sein explained maters related to the preliminary coordination meeting. Then, 17 delegates were selected and assigned duty to discuss matters pertaining to the organizational sector at the sector-wise seminar. The seminar on the management sector of the Group-2 was held at Anawrahta Hall.

Secretary-General of USDA U Than Aung announced that resolution of Annual General Meeting of USDA, future tasks and records were approved.

Secretary-General of USDA U Than Aung delivered a concluding speech. The annual General Meeting concluded with chanting of slogans.


(8) MPF Director General tours Mon, Kayin States

YANGON, 16 Sept-Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, accompanied by staff officers, inspected police stations of Mon State, Paung, Mottama, Thanbyu Zayat, Kyeikkhami, state and district offices, multi-agricultural work of Mon State MPF in Mon State, Kawkareik District Police Superintendent office, Police Stations in Kawkareik, Kyonedoe in Kayin State from 14 to 16 September. He met with members of MPF and their families and left instructions on security measures of farms, developing work efficiency and being prestigious force.


(9) 25 Bogalay Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 16 Sept-Twenty-five members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Bogalay Township, Ayeyawady Division. Twenty-five members of Bogalay Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Bogalay Township Multi-party Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 14 August 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
