(1)  State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe sends felicitations to  Brazil
 
YANGON, 7 Sept-Senior General Than Shwe; Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the  Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Mr Fernando Henrique Cardoso,  President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, on the Independence Day of the Federative Republic of Brazil  which falls on 7 September 2000.
 


 
(2) Cash donation for Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image held
 
YANGON, 6 Sept-A ceremony to present cash for the fund of Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image was  held at Mindhamma Hill this evening, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin  and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko and officials.
 
Venerable Sayadaw Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Shi Fa Zhao of Buddhist Golden Temple in Singapore  presented K 1 million, his disciples Mr Chew Kim Hock and Mr Poh Kian Hup K 500,000 and Daw Hla Kyi  and family of Sriasia Travel Agency K 100,000. After  accepting  the. donations, the Secretary-l inspected the  tasks to keep the Image in upright position and left there.
 


 
(3)  Information staff need to be endowed with spirit to love nation, patriotism and will to cherish traditions  and culture
 
YANGON, 6 Sept-Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied  by the director-general of the State Peace and Development Council office and officials, arrived at Myanma  Radio and Television the morning.
 
Director-General U Khin Maung Htay report on history of MRTV ,area and location layout of the buildings,  objectives, organizational set-up, broadcasting and TV production, construction of TV relay stations in border  areas, sending personnel to attend courses at home and abroad and welfare of service personnel.
 
Next, Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung reported on arrangements for upgrading of radio and television machines  and equipment, changing present TV system to digital system and production of regular TV lessons of  University of Distance Education.
 
The Secretary- 1 said rapid changes and developments in communication technology and information  technology in the world have led to progress in the information sector; thus efforts are required to promote  Myanmar's information sector in conformity with the global changes and developments.
 
Only then can Myanmar's objective conditions and correct news reports be effectively distributed  the global  community in time. Thus, the entire staff of the information sector with the conviction that  they are serving the  nation's vital tasks with the spirit to love the nation, patriotism and the will to cherish the traditions and  culture.
 


 
(4) Secretary-1 accepts K 5 million for construction of Aungbawdhi Pagoda in Dagon Myothit (South)
 
YANGON, 6 Sept-A ceremony to present cash for construction of Aungbawdhi Pagoda in Dagon Myothit  (South), Yangon Division, by Venerable Sayadaw Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Shi Fa Zhao of Buddhist  Golden Temple in Singapore, was held at Pitakathonbon Nikaya Sarthintaik on Paleyadana Street, Ward 26,  the same township, at 4.30 PM today, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
 
First, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt accepted K 5 million presented by Venerable Sayadaw Maha  Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Shi Fa Zhao of Buddhist Golden Temple in Singapore for construction of  Aungbawdhi Pagoda.
 
Then, Secretary- 1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt handed over K 5 million to Chairman of Committee for Construction of  Aungbawdhi Pagoda Chairman of Yangon East District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Aung Pyi.
 
Afterwards, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt accepted K 300,000 for a lacquer painting to be kept at  Pitakathonbon Nikaya Sarthintaik presented by Chairperson of Kyi Royal Trading Co and SriAsia Co Daw Hla  Kyi and family.
 
Later, Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga  Maha Saddhamma Jotika Myingyan Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of  merits gained.
 


 
(5)  Secretary-1 attends coordination meeting on upgrading of development level of Dagon Myothit Seikkan  Township
 
YANGON, 6 Sept-A coordination meeting on upgrading development level of Dagon Myothit Seikkan  Township in Yangon Division was held at Kanaung Hall of Department of Human Settlement and Housing  Development in Dagon Myothit Seikkan Township this afternoon, with an address by Chairman of Committee  for Housing Project Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
 
The Secretary-l said it was the third meeting for upgrading development level of Dagon Myothit Seikkan  Township and the meeting would find ways to seek means to realize the resolutions of the previous two  meetings. Those present took part in the discussions.  The Secretary-1 urged all departments concerned to  make concerted efforts for success of the project as it was being implemented for the future.



(6)  Secretary-2 inspects Hanthawady Tax-Free Market, cultivation of vegetables of regional battalions
 
YANGON, 6 Sept -Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, accompanied by  officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, inspected wholesale and retail sale of rice at  Hanthawady Tax-Free Market this evening. The Secretary-2 went to regional battalion in Mingaladon and  inspected cultivation there.
 
The Secretary-2 and party inspected vegetable patches and gave instructions on extended cultivation.
 
The Secretary-2 and party went to the site of Myasein Thabawa Ziwa Plantation and observed samples of  vegetables. The Secretary-2 inspected systematic cultivation of vegetables and gave instructions. There are  four tax-free markets in Yangon. Basic commodities such as rice, edible oil and salt and meat and  vegetables are available at reasonable prices at the markets.
 


 
(7)  Sayadaws back from UN Summit
 
YANGON, 6 Sept. Six Sayadaws led by Vice-Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw  Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Suriyabhivamsa, who attended Millennium World Peace Sumrnit of  World religious leaders, held at UN, arrived back here by air this afternoon.  Director-General of Religious  Affairs Department Dr Myo Myint, Director of Consular, International Law and Treaties and Research  Department U Thein Myint and Pro-Rector (Admin) of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University  Dr Hla Pe also arrived back on the same flight.

YANGON, 6 Sept-Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone met Managing Director Mr Vijay Iyengar of  Agrcorp International Pte Ltd, Singapore and party at his office at 1 PM today. Also present were Deputy  Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, Director-General of Directorate of Trade U Nyunt Aye, Director General of  Border Trade Department Col Nay Win, Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading U Min Hla  Aung and officials.
 
Ambassador of Pakistan
 
YANGON, 6 Sept- Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung met Ambassador of Pakistan to Myanmar Mr Mian  Yousuf Shah at 2 PM, Ambassador of Australia Mr Trevor David Wilson, at 3 PM and Sales Consultant  &  Adviser Mr James Goblett of Pellergrini Mecdcanica Spa, Italy at 4 PM at his office today separately.  Also  present at the calls were Deputy Ministers Brig- Gen Thein Tun and Brig- Gen Kayw Win and enterprises  under the ministry.

YANGON, 6 Sept-Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan met Managing Director of Myanmar  Daewoo Ltd Mr Tae Chul Shin and party at his office this afternoon. Also present were Director-General of  Directorate of Trade U Nyunt Aye, Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading U Min Hla Aung  and officials.



 
(9) Ministers on inspection tours.

Minister for Industry-l inspects Candy Factory in Yangon
 
YANGON, 6 Sept-Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thein Htun  and departmental officials arrived at Candy Factory of Myanma Foodstuff Industries on Thingangyun Road,  Tamwe Township this morning. The Minister inspected process of candy production and machinery of Candy  Factory and gave necessary instructions on producing international standard products, distributing the  products at reasonable prices, substitution of the imported raw materials and packaging.
 
In the briefing hall, the Minister compared the products of the factory with the imported ones and instructed  the officials to find more markets and to produce all kinds of candy.  The factory will produce modernised  quality candy with pineapple, tamarind, coffee and Iychee flavors and distribute them at reasonable prices.
 
Minister inspects bridges in Ayeyawady Division
 
YANGON, 6 Sept-Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen  Myint Thein and officials, arrived at party. Wakema Bridge on 5 September.  The Minister and party headed for  the site and attended to the needs. Then the Minister and party arrived at Shwelaung Bridge, where Chief  Engineer (Planning) U Khin Maung Lay reported on implementing the project. The Minister also gave  necessary instructions and inspected the bridge.
 



 
(10) Indian goodwill military soccer team arrives
 
 YANGON, 6 Sept-An Indian goodwill military soccer team led by Brigadier Gopala Ramachandran Nair of  Indian Army arrived here by air this afternoon. The team was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by  Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo and senior military officers. The team will play with Myanmar  Tatmadaw soccer team at Shan State sports ground in Taunggyi on 10 September .and at Youth Training  Centre in Thuwunna on 14 September.



 
(11)  Myanmar education delegation leaves for PRC
 
YANGON, 6 Sept-At the invitation of Ministry of Education, People's Republic of China, a Myanmar delegation  led by Deputy Minister for Education U Myo Nyunt flew to PRC this afternoon.
 
The delegation comprises Director-General of Higher Education Department (Upper Myanmar) Dr Thein  Myint and Deputy Director-General (Training) of Education Planning and Training Department Daw Hla Kyu.  They were seen off at the airport by Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Soe Win  Maung, directors-general and chairmen of departments and boards under the ministry and officials of  Chinese embassy.
 


 
(12) MMCWA CEC members and patrons of MWSF view Myanma Necklaces (Beads) Exhibition
 
YANGON, 6 Sept-CEC members and patrons of Myanmar; Maternal and Child Welfare Association and  Myanmar Women Sports Federation this morning arrived at Myanma Necklace (Beads) Exhibition at the  Multipurpose Hall of National Museum, where they were welcomed by Daw Khin Thein Yi, wife of Minister for  Culture, Deputy Minister U Soe Nyunt, directors-general and directors of departments under the Ministry of  Culture and officials.
 
The study group members viewed various kinds of strings of beads, and beads of stone age, beads of  Bagan Period from 10th Century AD to 12th Century AD, beads of Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Rakhine  and Shan nationalities, beads of Pyu Period and process of making beads at the exhibition. They were  conducted round the exhibition by Deputy Minister U Soe Nyunt, Director-General U Myint Thein Swe of  Department of Cultural Institute, Director of National Museum Daw Nu Mya Zan, Director Daw Sanda Khin of  Archaeology Department and others. Then, members of Panel of Patrons Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Daw Khin  Than Nwe and Daw Khin Cho Oo noted down advice in the suggestion book.



 
(13) Actions against drug offences

 79.8 kgs of heroin seized in Lashio
 
YANGON, 6 Sept-A combined team comprising local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on  information, near Yaypusan toll gate, Lashio, Northern Shan State, on 15 August 2000, stopped and  searched a car with number plate Dha/9300 with Sai Myint Aung, son of U Tun Myat, of Ward 7, Region 11,  Lashio, at the wheel, and seized 210 blocks of heroin weighing 79.8 kgs hidden in the water tank on the  Dyna light truck. On further investigation, three accomplices U Tun Myat, son of U Hsai Paung, of Khaing  Shwe Wah Street, Region 11, Ward 7, Lashio, Ma Khin Myat Mon, daughter of U Tun Myat, of Zeya Lane,  Region 10, and Sai Than Khine, son of U Tun Myat, Dhammayon Street, Ward 9, were then arrested. Ar Chan  (a) Than Win, owner of illegal drug, of Christian Ward, Muse, is still at large. Action was taken against them  under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
 
 Drug possessor gets 30 years' imprisonment
 
YANGON, 6 Sept-A combined team comprising members of the local Intelligence Unit and Railway Police  Force, acting on information searched a suspect at Shwebo Railway Station and arrested Lin Zaw, 29, of  Tram Village, Tangyan Township in Shan State (South) together with 2.776 kilos of raw opium on 13 March.  The Shwebo Police Force filed him under section 15/l9(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances  Law. The Shwebo District Court handed down thirty years' imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on him on 18  July 2000.
 



 
(14)  15 Ngapudaw Township NLD members resign of own accord
 
YANGON, 6 Sept-Fifteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Ngapudaw  Township, Ayeyawady Division. Fifteen members of Ngapudaw Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their  own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Ngapudaw Township Multiparty Democracy  General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on S August l999 as they no longer wished to  participate in party politics of NLD.
