(1) Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image conveyed onto the throne

YANGON, 28 Aug - A ceremony to convey Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image onto the throne by Mingala Natpanyin was held at the central pandal on Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township, Yangon North District, this morning, and Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe's wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing took part in the conveying of the Image onto the throne.

The audience recited "namotassa" three times and the ceremony was opened, followed by the blowing of conch shells and the beating of drums. On behalf of the Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, Vice Chairman Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Arsinnabhivamsa administered the Nine Precepts. The Sayadaws and members of the Sangha recited "Metta Sutta".

 Afterwards, the Chairman Sayadaw of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, the Secretary-l, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and Minister U Aung Khin sprinkled scented water on the Image.

At that time, the Senior General s wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, the General's wife Daw Mya Mya San and party paid homage to the Image. Devawin (celestial procession) and Rajawin(regal procession) were formed on each side of the Image. The woman audience led by the Senior General s wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and the man audience led by the Secretary1, holding ropes tied to the Image, took positions on the left and on the right respectively.

When the conveyance of the Image onto the throne was completed, all the audience shouted  May the light of the Sasana shine as bright as the sun  three times, followed by the blowing of conch shells and the beating of drums, which brought the ceremony to a close.

 The Senior General   s wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and the Secretary- 1 performed the ritual of golden and silver showers to mark the successful completion of the ceremony. At 5.36 am before the ceremony, Maha Saddhama Jotikadhaja Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Alodawpyi Sayadaw Bhaddanta Ariyavamsa and the Secretary-l performed the ritual of cleansing the face of the Image with " Paritta" water and offering water to the Image.


(2) Secretary-2 gives instructions on construction of Myeik-Taninthayi-Bokepyin Road

YANGON, 28 Aug-A coordination meeting on construction of Myeik-Taninthayi-Bokepyin Road  to be used in all weathers was held at the meeting hall of the Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army) this  afternoon, attended by Chairman of the Central Committee for Ensuring Smooth and Secure Transport Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council L t-Gen Tin Oo.
 
The Secretary-2 said that the Head of State has given guidance on construction of Myeik-Taninthayi-Bokepyin-Kawthoung Road to be used in all weathers, with the aim of promoting development of Taninthayi Division.

He added that with the improvement of that road, economic and social conditions including agriculture and trade in Taninthayi Division would improve all the more. He said a well worked-out project is to be drawn for construction of Taninthayi-Bokepyin Road so that it can be used in all weathers, and the government will render necessary assistance.

Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung reported on availability of manpower for construction of Myeik-Taninthayi-Bokepyin Road, supply of literate, condition of existing roads and work to be done.  Deputy Minister U Tint Swe and Brig-Gen Myint Thein reported on arrangements made by the ministry for construction of Myeik-Taninthayi-Bokepyin Road.

The officials reported the work done by departments concerned for construction of the road. The Secretary-2 called on all to implement the project as scheduled.


(3) Seventh National Level Meeting between Myanmar and India held

YANGON, 28 Aug- A six-member Indian delegation led by Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs of India Mr Kamal Pande arrived here by air this morning to attend the Seventh National Level Meeting between Myanmar and India.

The Indian delegation was welcomed at the airport by Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Ambassador of India Mr Shyam Saran and embassy staff, Director-General of the General Administration Department U Aung Thein and officials.

The delegation called on Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung at his office in the afternoon.  Also present at the call were Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, Director-General of the General Administration Department U Aung Thein, Director General of Bureau of Special Investigation U Than Myint and Deputy Director-General of the Prisons Department U Saw Ngwe. The Seventh National Level Meeting between Myanmar and India was held in the meeting room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at 3 PM.

Present on the side of Myanmar were Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Deputy Minister for Immigration and Population U Maung Aung, Vice-Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Than Lwin, Director-General of GAD U Aung Thein and officials of departments concerned.

Present on the side of India were Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Mr Kamal Pande and party. Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung hosted a dinner to the Indian delegation at Karaweik Palace Hotel.


(4) Minister for Home Affairs meets guests from India

YANGON, 28 Aug-Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing met a delegation led by Secretary Mr  Kamal Pande of Ministry of Home Affairs, India who arrived here to attend the Seventh National Level Meeting between Myanmar and India at his office at 2 PM today.

Also present at the call were Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win,  Director-General of General Administration Department U Aung Thein, Director General of Bureau of Special Investigation U Than Myint, Deputy Director-General of Prisons Department U Saw Ngwe and Head of Office U Nyan Lin.


(5) Minister for Information receives Chinese Journalists

YANGON, 28 Aug-Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung met an eight member delegation led by Director Mr Li Maoguan of Quishi Magazine, China together with Charge d' Affaires ai of the Chinese Embassy Mr Tang Ying and Second Secretary Ms Shi Ying at 3 PM at the hall of Sarpay Beikman Press on Pyay Road today.

Journalists Association U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung), Secretary U Hla Tun (Hla Tun-Twantay), Members of Central Executive Committee of MWJA Dr Khin Maung Nyunt, Daw Saw Mon  Nyin and U Aye Tun, Adviser to the minister U Kyaw Min, Head of Office Captain Soe Aung and  officials.

After introducing to one another, Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung presented the original poems of Chinese Poet Marshal Chen Yi and translation work of it to the Chinese delegates. They discussed matters on journalism. Then, the minister and the leader of the delegation exchanged souvenirs.  Minister meets Chinese entrepreneurs


(6) Minister meets Chinese Entrepreneur

YANGON Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin met Vice-General Engineer Mr Jiang Zu Ren and party of Datang Telecom Technology Co Ltd of the People's Republic of China at his office this morning. Also present at the call were Managing Director U Maung Maung Tin of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications and officials.


(7) Minister for Transport meets officials of IWT

YANGON, 28 Aug-Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by officials arrived at the office of Division Manager of Inland Water Transport in Mandalay yesterday. He met with officers in charge of Mandalay based departments under the ministry at the hall of IWT (Upper  Ayeyawady Division) office.

First, Division Manager of IWT (Upper Reaches of Ayeyawady River) U Soe Hla reported to the minister on transportation work of craft in upper Reaches of Ayeyawady River and Chindwin region, possible conditions for exceeding the income target in 2000-2001 fiscal year, earning local and foreign currencies and the set-up of the division. Then, superintending engineer U Htay Aung of Yadanabon Dockyard (Mandalay) reported on major and minor repair of water craft, maintenance of the building of the dockyard, implementation of ship building project in Monywa-Chindwin region and earnings. Senior Superintending Engineer U M Lasei of Mandalay Dockyard reported on repair work of water craft, inspection of water craft and agricultural and livestock breeding work. Director U Soe Tint of Meteorology and Hydrology Department (Upper Myanmar) and Deputy Director U Soe Win of Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems reported on waterway survey, plans to be carried out for smooth sailing of ships in all seasons, preventive measures against erosion at jetties and in towns. The minister gave instructions on striving for exceeding the income target, making the water craft presentable, repair of water craft daily, monthly and yearly, systematic super vision of officials for good cleaning work, practicing reward and punishment system, minimizing of fuel wastage, cooperation among officers in-charge and making efforts to expand agricultural and livestock breeding work into commercial scale. Then, the minister and party inspected systematic cultivation of fruit trees, vegetables and mush rooms on the plot of the office.


(8) Minister meets officials of Konsep Rimba

YANGON, 28 Aug-Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein met Mr Dato" Eskay Shrryi and party of Konsep Rimba Sdn Bhd of Malaysia at his office this afternoon.

 Also present at the call were Deputy Minister U Aung Thein, Director-General U Kyaw Lwin of Directorate of Livestock and Fisheries, Director-General U Maung Maung Nyunt of Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department and Head of Office U Myint Shwe.

 YANGON, 28 Aug- Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan met Chairman Mr Dato Seazryl Eskay and party of Komserimba Sdn Bhd of Malaysia at his office this afternoon .Also present at the call were Director-General U Nyunt Aye of Directorate of Trade, Managing Director U Min Hla Aung of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading and officials.


(10) Gastero-enterology and Liver Association meeting on 2 Sept

YANGON, 28 Aug- Gastero-enterology and Liver Association of Myanmar Medical Association (Central) will hold the meeting at 9 am on 2 September at MMA building, 249, Theinbyu Street, Mingala Taungnyunt Township. Any member of MMA may attend the meeting.


(11) NPE Managing Director, hosts dinner in honour of PRC journalist delegation

YANGON, 28 Aug-Visiting PRC journalist delegation led by Director Mr Li Maoguan of the  Editorial Office for Political News of Qiushi Magazine, accompanied by Second Secretary Ms Shi Ying  of the Chinese Embassy, called on Managing Director U Tin Kha of News and Periodicals Enterprise at his office at 10 am today.

Also present at the call were Director (News) U Hla Tun of NPE, Director (Admin) U Soe Win, Chief Editor U Kyi Nyunt of Myanma Alin Daily, Chief Editor U Ye Tint of Kyemon Daily and others.

Managing Director U Tin Kha explained about newspapers, periodicals and books published by NPE. Leader of the delegation Director Mr Li Maoguan introduced his delegation members to Managing Director U Tin Kha and officials. Then, Mr Li Maoguan presented gifts to U Tin Kha

Afterwards, the Chinese delegation visited Myanma Alin Daily in Bahan Township. Chief Editor U Kyi Nyunt explained editing, printing and publication of Myanma Alin Daily and Shwemaungthan journal. The Chinese delegation later visited Shwedagon Pagoda and offered flowers and lights and made donations at the pagoda. They signed in the visitor’s  book. At Pyidaungsu Ayeyeiknyein, the delegation members viewed traditional utensils of national races and statues of national races and signed in the visitor’s  book. At the National Museum, officials welcomed and conducted them round the museum. Then, the delegation on Director-General U Khin Maung Htay of Myanma Radio and Television on Pyay Road Also present at the call were Deputy Director-General Lt-Col Thein Aung of MRTV and officials.

After signing in the visitor’s  book, Director Mr Li Maoguan presented gifts to Director-General U Khin Maung Htay. Then, the delegation members viewed playing of Myanma Athan Myanma orchestra and TV telecasting. At 6 PM, Managing Director U Tin Kha hosted a dinner at Central Hotel in honour of the Chinese journalist delegation.


(12) 25 members exchanged arms for peace in JULY

YANGON, 28 Aug- The State Peace and Development Council, upholding Our Three Main National Causes, is striving for national reconsolidation with might and main, for emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation.

Realizing that their destructive acts did not benefit the nation at all and that the acts retarded development of their regions, and understanding the genuine goodwill and correct endeavours of the government, remaining armed groups have been exchanging arms for peace individually or in groups.

Deputy section leader Saw Hti Nyo, Pvts Saw Kyaw Aye and Win Naing of Guard Company of  No 6 Brigade of KNU armed group, with two grenades, in South-East Command area, Pvt Khin Maung Oo and Ma Thida Maw of ABSDF armed group in Northern Command area, intelligence in-charge Aik Sai of SURA armed group and intelligence in-charge Tin Maung Aye (a) Cho Tu of ABSDF group in Eastern Command area, Pvt Bwal Kyon of CNA armed group in Northwest Command area, Pvt Tun Kyaw of SURA armed group and L/Cpl Ma Htwe Sein of ABSDF  armed group in North-East Command area, Sgt Saw Lar Lar, wife Daw Hnyaw, daughter Naw Aye, Cpls Al Wah and Saw Hti Mu and wife Daw Dah Al, Pvts Saw Pho Hmyar, Saw Taw Ni, Aye Nge and Independents Ma Soe Ma and Ma Soe Wai of No 4 Brigade of KNU armed group with two AK47s, one M-16, one M-20 pistol, four magazines and 37 rounds of ammunition in Coastal Region Command area and Cpl Khaing Kyaw Hsan (a) Kyaw Kyaw (a) Kyaw Than Maung, Pvts Khaing Kyaw Oo (a) Ohn Kyaw and Khaing Tun Kyaw (a) Nyi Nyi Win and peon Tha Tin Aye (a) Sai Chit Khaing of AA armed group with one AK47, two M-22s, 12 magazines and 280 rounds of ammunition in Western Command area exchanged arms for peace at the respective military camps from 1 to 31 July. Officials of the respective camps warmly welcomed 25 persons who exchanged arms for peace and attended to their requirements. More persons of armed group are going to exchange arms for peace.



(13) Drug trafficker, accomplices get imprisonment

YANGON, 28 Aug- A combined group comprising members of local intelligence unit and Mandalay Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched stimulant tablets trafficker Ma Myint Myint Khaing on 82nd Street between 38th and 39th Streets in Mandalay at 8.20 PM on 1 October 1999.The group found 900 stimulant tablets weighing 90 grams packed with plastic sheet in her towel.

According to further information, the group nabbed accomplices Ko Lwin and Daw Hnin Hnin Hlaing. Mandalay No 1 Police Station filed Ma Myint Myint Khaing,.29, daughter of U Aye Maung of Ooyinsu Village of Mabein Township, Ko Lwin, 44, son of U Khin Maung Latt of Ward 6, Aungpinle Region, Chanmyathazi Township and Daw Hnin Hnin Hlaing, 51, daughter of U Law San of 505/26 of East Yadanabonmi Ward, Mahaaungmye Township under Sections 15/ 19(A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Mandalay District Court sentenced Ma Myint Myint Khaing to 14 years'  imprisonment under Sections 19 (A) and accomplices Ko Lwin and Daw Hnin Hnin Hlaing to 14 years  each under Sections 19 (A)/21 on 7 August 2000.


(14) 31 Ngaphe Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 28 Aug-Thirty-one members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Ngaphe Township, Magway Division. One-one members of Ngaphe Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Ngaphe Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 12 May 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
