(1) State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe sends felicitations to Peru

YANGON, 28 July- Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council  of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Mr Alberto Fujimori, President of the Republic of Peru, on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Peru  which falls on 28 July 2000.


(2) Secretary-2 attends opening ceremony of New Millennium International Trade Exhibition

YANGON, 27 July- The opening ceremony of New Millennium International Trade Exhibition was held at Yangon Trade Centre on Upper Pazundaung Road in Mingala Taungnyunt Township this morning,
attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and Patron of Laser World Co Ltd U Htay Aung formally opened the exhibition. Then, the inauguration ceremony of the exhibition was held at the Yangon Trade Centre.

Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone delivered a speech. Chairman of Laser World Co Ltd U Aung Kyu Hein extended greetings.

On behalf of the companies, Chairman of Aung Aung Enterprise Ltd U Myat Thin Aung and Secretary of Mingala Taungnyunt Township Union Solidarity and Development Association U Kyaw Yi spoke words of thanks.

After the opening ceremony, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party inspected the exhibition.


(3) Minister meets foreign guests

YANGON, 27 July-Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein met Director of American Express Bank Ltd Ms Wanida Svastisalee and party at his office at 2pm and General Manager of
Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan Mr Tsuneo Akabane and party at 3 pm today.

Also present at the calls was Governor of Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung.


(4) Minister for Home Affairs meets Ambassador of Japan

YANGON, 27 July-Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing met Ambassador of Japan to the Union of Myanmar Mr Shigeru Tsumori at 4 pm at his office at the corner of Saya San Road and Industry-l Road
today. Also present at the call were Director General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win and Head of Office U Nyan Lin.


(5) Commander inspects Yangon Division Vegetable Cultivation Centre

YANGON, 27 July -Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than inspected the cultivation work
and poultry farming at Yangon Division Vegetable Cultivation Centre at the pasture of Nyaunghnapbin Village near Hsatthwataw Village in Hmawby Township, Yangon North District, this afternoon. The
commander said that arrangements are to be made to carry out vegetable cultivation work together with poultry farming; by doing so, Bokashi fertilizer can be available for the vegetables grown at the Centre.
He urged all to contribute to the discussions.

Afterwards, the commander inspected preparations for cultivation of vegetables and the building of drains and roads, and gave instructions on the work. At Zone- 1 of Yangon Division Vegetable Cultivation Centre, vegetables have been grown on 50.5 acres by the Ministry of Home Affairs, on 20 acres by the Ministry for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs, on 15 acres by the Ministry of Energy.

After that, the commander inspected the poultry farming and cultivation of vegetables around the chicken-run.


(6) YCDC coordinates implementation of Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt's instructions

YANGON, 27 July- A work coordination meeting on implementation of instructions by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt was held at City Hall this morning, attended
by Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Yangon Mayor U Ko Lay. The mayor gave instructions on building of Yangon City to meet international standard, paving roads in downtown at the end of 2001 year, accelerating livestock breeding and farming for the tax-free markets. Then, those present took part in the discussions.


(7) Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image arrives Bagan-NyaungU

YANGON, 27 July - Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image which is on its way to Mindhamma Hill in Insein, Yangon, rested for the night at Lawka Nanda Jetty in BaganNyaungU in Mandalay Division on 27 July.

Member of the State Peace and Development council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Center Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint paid obeisance to the image.

Together with Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Thein Zaw and officials, Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint sprinkled scented water on the image.

The image was accorded a grand welcome at Lawka Nanda jetty in BaganNyaungU. Ayeyawady River bank was crowded with members of religious associations, social organizations, Union Solidarity and
Development Associations and local authorities, teachers, and their pupils and local people, music troupes and artistes singing religious songs to welcome the image local people also made donation for the image festival were held and movies shown during the night.


(8) Delegates arrive to attend 8th Meeting of ASEAN Customs Directors General

YANGON, 27 July-Delegates of ASEAN member nations arrived here by air today to attend the Eighth Meeting of Directors-General of Customs Departments of ASEAN Member Nations to be hosted by
Myanmar for the first time.

They are delegates from Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Laos, the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan and the high-ranking officials of the ASEAN Secretariat.

They were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Director of the Customs Department U Thein Lwin and officials and the staff of respective embassies.


(9) Tens of thousands of people welcome Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image in Bagan-Nyaung U

YANGON, 27 July -Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image arrived at Bagan-NyaungU in Mandalay Division this afternoon, after being kept for public obeisance in Pakokku, Magway Division, for the night.

Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image was welcomed at Bagan-NyaungU by tens of thousands of people including members of the Sangha and the people in celestial, regal and Bagan processions.

The barge carrying the 500-ton image left Pakokku this morning, revered by a massive crowd of departmental personnel, local authorities, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Women's. Affairs Commit tee, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigade, nurses, teachers, students, members of the Sangha and local people.

At the pandal in Pakokku, Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Thein Zaw and Sayadaws sprinkled scented water and Paritta water on the image.

Artistes with the accompanied of Saing troupes.sang dhamma songs. Together with a flotilla of boats carrying ceremonial celestial and regal entourages, members. of the Sangha, members of religious associations, Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image left Pakokku on board the ceremonial barge. The flotilla sailing on the Ayeyawady River in accord with the religious traditions arrived at Bagan- Nyaung U jetty at 12. 35 pm.


(10) U Linn Myaing accredited to Swiss Confederation

YANGON, 28 July- The Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar has appointed U Linn Myaing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Union of
Myanmar to the French Republic, concurrently as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Union of Myanmar to the Swiss Confederation.


(11) Third-time donations in Yangon for Lawka Chanth Abhaya Labha Muni Image total K 40.778m

YANGON. 27 July-The third donation ceremony for the conveyance of Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image was held at the City Hall of Yangon City Development Committee this afternoon.

Present were Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Chairman of the Subcommittee for Raising Trust Fund for Conveyance of
Lawka - Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Secretary Col Myint Aung, Vice-Chairman of the Fund Raising Subcommittee for Conveyance of Lawka
Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image Joint Secretary of Yangon City Development Committee U Kyi Win and subcommittee members, heads of department. well wishers and officials.

Today's donations totalled K 28 million. To date, a total of K 40. 778 million was accepted at the three donation ceremonies.


(12) Executives of UMFCCI meet officials of Malaysia Palm Oil Promotion Council

YANGON. 27 July -Secretary-General U Zaw Min Win, executives U Tun Aung and U Wai Phyo of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry met Regional Market
Development Officer Mr Nasirin Jasan and Market Analyst Miss Wong Si Si of Malaysia Palm Oil Promotion Council at UMFCCI (Head office) at 3 pm on 26 July.

They discussed matters related to production of palm oil and soap and investment sector and promotion of trade.


(13) Tailoring and Cookery Courses of MMCWA conclude

YANGON, 27 July-A ceremony to conclude Tailoring Course No 11/2000 and Cookery Course No 10/2000 and to open Tailoring Course No 12/ 2000 and Cookery Course No 11/2000 sponsored by
Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association was held at the Multipurpose Hall of MMCWA at the corner of Thanthumar Road and Parami Road in South Okkalapa Township this morning, attended
by Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, CEC members, patrons, course instructors and trainees.

Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe made a speech and presented certificates to the trainees of tailoring course. Then, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe presented certificates to the trainees of cookery course and prize
to the outstanding trainee Daw Than Win. On behalf of the trainees, Ma Chan Min Oo and Ma Yee Moe spoke words of thanks. Afterwards, the trainees paid respects to patrons, CEC members and course
instructors and the ceremony came to an end. Altogether 51 trainees attended the courses which are opened bi-monthly.


(14)MMCWA opens Myittashin Hospital in Mandalay

YANGON, 27 July-The opening ceremony of Myittashin Hospital was held at the hospital on Kanaung Prince Street on Industrial Zone 2 in Pyigyitagun Township, Mandalay Division on 25 July morning,
attended by Vice-Chairperson of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Central) and member of Myanmar National Working Committee for Women s Affairs Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe. First,
Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe formally unveiled the stone inscription of the hospital and made a speech on the occasion.  Then, Dr Daw Tin Lin Myint explained about the opening ceremony.  Afterwards, well-
wishers presented cash and kind to Dr Daw Tin Lin Myint for the hospital.  Then, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe met with members of Mandalay Division MCWA at 2 pm the same day.


(15) Old Myoma Students hold Diamond Jubilee get-together dinner

YANGON, 27 July-A ceremony to mark Diamond Jubilee of founding Old Myoma Students Association was held at Myatmon Yadana Hall of the Association, No 68 Zagawa Street, yesterday.

Chairman of the Association spoke on the occasion. Then, old student Commodore Thaung Tin (Retd) and U Than Maung (Duwunkye) also gave speeches. Later, Secretary of the Association U Tint Swe
expressed gratitude and dinner was hosted.


(16) 28 Ngazun Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 27 July-Twenty-eight members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Ngazun Township, Mandalay Division. Twenty-eight members of Ngazun Township NLD, Mandalay Division,
of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Ngazun Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 5 May 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party Politics in NLD.


(17) Drug traffickers get imprisonment

YANGON, 27 July-A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, Kengtung Anti-drug Squad, Customs Department and local Police Force searched a Toyota Hilux with a number plate 3
Kha/8260, which was driven by Shauk Chon together with conductor Kyaw Kyaw Oo and leaving Kengtung for Tachilek at the check point of No 244 LIR on 18 March 2000, and seized 213 packets containing 509,200 stimulant tablets.

A case was opened against driver Shauk Chon, 31, son of U Lay Wu, of Ward 8, Lashio, and conductor Kyaw Kyaw Oo, 21, son of U Tun Khin, of 36th Street (Between 71st and 72nd Streets), Mandalay, under Section 15/19 (A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Law by Kengtung Police Station.

Kengtung District Court sentenced life imprisonment on Shauk Chon under Section 19 (A) and 30 years  imprisonment on Kyaw Kyaw Oo under Section 19 (A)/21 of Narcotic, Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law on 28 June 2000.
