(1) General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San welcome Vice-President of PRC Mr Hu Jintao and  Madame Liu Yongqing

YANGON, 16 July- At the invitation of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of  the Union of Myanmar General Maung Aye, a goodwill delegation led by Vice-President of the People's
Republic of China Mr Hu Jintao and Madame Liu Yongqing arrived here by special flight this afternoon to pay an official visit to the Union of Myanmar.

Vice-President of PRC Mr Hu Jintao and wife Madame Liu Yongqing and members of the delegation  were welcomed on arrival at the Yangon International Airport by State Peace and Development Council
Vice-Chairman General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and  wife, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, members of the State
Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and wife, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and wife, Minister for Science & Technology U Thaung and wife, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Ambassador of China to Myanmar Mr Liang Dong and wife, officials of the PRC Embassy and representatives of
Chinese companies and enterprises in Myanmar. As the special aircraft carrying the PRC Vice-President and Madame and party arrived at the airport at 12.35 pm, Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the
Protocol Department and Ambassador of China Mr Liang Dong boarded the aircraft and welcomed the PRC Vice-President and Madame.

Two young ladies presented bouquets to the Chinese Vice-President and Madame.

They then were greeted by General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San. Next, the General  presented Myanmar dignitaries to the Chinese Vice-President and Madame.

The PRC Vice-President and Madame greeted officials of the Chinese Embassy and representatives of  Chinese companies and enterprises in Myanmar.

Afterwards, the PRC Vice-President and the General went to the saluting dais in the Special Lounge and  took the salute of the Guard of Honour, while the State Band played the national anthems of the two  countries.

The PRC Vice-President and the General then inspected the Guard of Honour. The PRC Vice-President  and Madame together with General and wife, proceeded to Seinle Kantha State House in a motorcade.

In extending a grand welcome to the PRC Vice-President and party an archway was put up at the  entrance to the Yangon International Airport welcoming the distinguished guests in both Myanmar and  English warm welcome to Vice-President Mr Hu Jintao and Madame Liu Yongqing of the People's Republic of China hung on the airport terminal building, banner posted on Pyay Road at the entrance to  the airport, at 7th Mile, at the corner of Inya Road and Pyay Road, at the entrance to the State House and flags of two countries hoisted along the road from the airport, at the junction of Mayangon, at 7th  Mile, in front of Innya Lake Bund, at the junction of Kamayut, along University Avenue leading to Seinle Kantha State House, at Hanthawady Roundabout, U Wisara Roundabout and the People's Square.

The guests together with the General and wife arrived at Seinle Kantha State House at 1.15 pm. And the  General and wife cordially greeted the Chinese Vice-President and Madame and left the House.

The Vice-President and wife were accompanied by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Yang  Guangya Deputy Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee Mr Ling Jihua, Deputy  Minister in Charge of State Development and Planning Commission Mr Wang Yang, Deputy Minister of  Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) Mr Chen Xinhua and senior departmental officials Government of the PRC.

(2) Arrival Statement by PRC Vice-President Mr Hu Jintao at Yangon Airport

The following is the written statement by PRC Vice-President Mr Hu Jintao on arrival at Yangon Airport  on 16-7-2000.

I feel greatly honoured and pleased to come to the Union of Myanmar for an official visit at the  invitation of General Maung Aye, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the  Union of Myanmar. I wish to take this opportunity to convey the cordial greetings and best wishes of  the Chinese people to the people of Myanmar.

China and Myanmar are linked by common mountains and rivers and the paukphaw sentiments  between the two peoples can be dated back to ancient times. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Over the past half a century, people of China and Myanmar have all along sympathized with and supported each other and the  friendly relations between the two countries have been developing steadily. As proven by past
experience, to maintain the friendly contacts and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries not only serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but also contributes to stability and cooperation in the region.

Bilateral relations between China and Myanmar are gaining a good momentum of development at the  turn of the century. During my visit, I will have an exchange of views with leaders of Myanmar on bilateral relations and on issues of common interest. I will have the opportunity to learn about the economic and social development of Myanmar. I also have keen interest in its traditional culture. I am convinced that this visit will yield positive results with the thoughtful arrangements of our Myanmar hosts. May the Union of Myanmar enjoy prosperity and its people well- being


(3) Agreements between Myanmar and People's Republic of China signed

YANGON I6 July-A ceremony to sign agreements between the Government of the Union of Myanmar  and the Government of the People's Republic of China took place at the Pyithu Hluttaw building this
evening.

Present were Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council General Maung Aye,  Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Tin Oo,
Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla, Minister for agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung, Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and department officials.

Next, Deputy Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Brig-Gen Zaw Tun and Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Mr Chen Xinhua signed the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the People's Republic of China and ex. hanged the documents.

Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the PRC Mr Wang Guangya signed the Agreement on Tourism Cooperation between the
Government of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the People's Republic of China and exchanged the documents.

Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the PRC Mr Wang Guangya signed the Agreement on Science and Technology Cooperation between the Movement of the Union of Myanmar and the Movement of the People's Republic of China and exchanged the documents.

(4) General Maung Aye, Vice-President Mr Hu Jintao meet

YANGON, 16 July- Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council General Maung Aye and  party and Vice-President of the People's Republic of China Mr Hu Jintao and his delegation members held discussions at the meeting hall of Pyithu Hluttaw Building at 4.30 pm today.

Also present together with Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council General Maung  Aye were Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Lt-

(5) General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San host dinner for PRC Vice-President Mr Hu Jintao, Madame Liu Yongqing and party

YANGON, 16 July- Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of  Myanmar General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San hosted a dinner at the Reception Hall of
Pyithu Hluttaw Building in honour of Vice-President of the People's Republic of China Mr Hu Jintao and Madame Liu Yongqing and goodwill delegation members at 7 pm today.

Also present at the dinner were Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin  Nyunt and wife, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, member of

Before and during the din with the accompaniment of Myanma Athan music troupe After the dinner, artists of the Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture entertained the guests with the variety show at the Thabin Hall.

After the show, the Chinese Vice-President and Madame presented a basket of flowers to the artists.


(6) Secretary-1 and wife call on Vice-President of People's Republic of China Mr Hu Jintao and Madame Liu Yongqing

YANGON, 16 July-Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife  Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe called on Vice-President of the People's Republic of China Mr Hu Jintao and
Madame Liu Yongqing, currently here on a friendly visit to the Union of Myanmar, at Seinle Kantha State House this evening.

Present together with Vice-President of the People's Republic of China Mr Hu Jintao and Madame Liu  Yongqing, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the PRC Mr Wang Guangya, Ambassador of the PRC
Mr Liang Dong and wife and senior departmental officials of the government of the PRC.

Also present together with the Secretary-l and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe were Minister for Foreign  Affairs U Win Aung and wife, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung and wife and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and wife.

(7) Madame Liu Yongqing and party visit Myanma Handicraft Sales Centre

YANGON, 15 July- Madame Liu Yongqing, wife of Vice-President of the People's Republic of China Mr Hu Jintao, and party, accompanied by Daw May Kyi Sein, wife of Minister for Science and Technology
U Thaung, arrived at Myanma Handicraft Sales Centre at the comer of Shwegondaing Road this afternoon. Madam Liu Yongqing and party viewed handicrafts and displayed at the sales centre. Officials conducted them round the sales centre


(8) Over 9,000 BEHS and BEMS students of No 3 Basic Education Department (Yangon City) offer flowers, water, lights to Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON, 16 July- Over 9,000 students of Basic Education High Schools and Basic Education Middle  Schools under No 3 Basic Education Department (Yangon City) of the Ministry of Education offered 9,000 flowers, 9,000 water, 9,000 lights to Shwedagon Pagoda was held at the pagoda this morning in conjunction with cash donation ceremony of No 3 Basic Education Department (Yangon City) for All-round Renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda.

Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Patron of Work Committee for All-round Renovation of  Shwedagon Pagoda Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony and accepted the donations.

Present also were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division  Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, ministers, deputy ministers,
members of Work Committee for All-round Renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, members of Pagoda Board of Trustees,
directors-general, chairman deputy directors-general, directors, deputy directors of the ministry, township education officers school heads, teachers and students totalling over 9,000.

Over 9,000 student and teachers from Wut Associations of Basic Education High Schools and Basic Education Middle Schools under No 3 Basic Education Department (Yangon City) offered _soon_, 9,000
flowers, 9,000 water, 9,000 lights to Shwedagon Pagoda.

Secretary- 1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party revered the recitation of students from Wut Associations on the pagoda platform of the pagoda.

Afterwards, the second cash donation ceremony of No 3 Basic Education Department (Yangon City) for All-round Renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda was held at Old Museum Tazaung on the pagoda platform.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Ministers U Than Aung, Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Maj-Gen Ket Sein, U Win Sein, Maj-Gen Kyi Aung accepted the donation.

(9) Contract signed for construction of Pwintbyu textile Mill

YANGON, 16 July-Contract signing ceremony for Magway Division Pwintbyu Textile Mill Project between Myanma Textile Industries of the Ministry of Industry-l and Tianjin Machinery Import and Export Corporation (Group) of the People's Republic of China was held at the Ministry of Industry-l at 9 am today. Present on the occasion were Minister for Industry- I U Aung Thaung, Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, the directors-general and managing directors of departments and enterprises, directors, general managers, Managing Director of Tianjin Machinery Import and Export Corporation (Group) Mr Ding Jian Xing and members.

Managing Director U Thein Maung of Myanma Textile Industries and Managing Director Mr Ding Jian Xing of Tianjin Machinery Import and Export Corporation (Group) signed the contract and exchanged the documents.

Managing Directors U Thein Maung and Mr Ding Jian Xing made speeches. Magway Division Pwintbyu Textile Mill Project is located by Lekai Pwintbyu Road near Kanthagyi Village, about two miles from Pwintbyu. The project will be implemented on 681.71 acres of land.

Similarly, Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries and China Metallurgical Construction (Group) signed a contract to construct 200 ton pulp factory in Tabaung Township, Ayeyawady Division. It was attended by Minister U Aung Thaung.

Managing Director U Ngwe Thaw of Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries and Chairman Mr Ma Yan Li of China Metallurgical Construction (Group) explained about the contract. Managing Director U
Ngwe Thaw and Chairman Mr Ma Yan Li signed the contract and exchanged the documents.
