(1) Chairman of State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe receives Chief of Indian Army Staff and Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee

YANGON, 6 July-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe received the visiting Chief of Indian Army Staff and Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee General VP Malik and party in Credentials Hall of the Pyithu Hluttaw Office at 9 am today.

Also present together with the Senior General were Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint, Members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than and Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin Hla and officials.

The visiting General and party were accompanied by Ambassador of India Mr Shyam Saran and Defence Attache Col Shakti Gurung.


(2) Chief of Indian Army Staff and Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee and Madame and delegation conclude goodwill visit

YANGON, 6 July-Chief of Indian Army Staff and Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee General VP Malik and Madame and goodwill delegation who visited Myanmar from 3 July at the invitation of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, left here for home by special flight this evening at the conclusion of their goodwill visit.

Before their departure, General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San called on General VP Malik and Madame at the Tatmadaw Guest House on Inya Road at 3 pm. Together with General Maung Aye and Daw Mya Mya San, General VP Malik and Madame proceeded to Yangon International Airport in a motorcade.

General VP Malik and Madame and delegation left for home at 3.30 pm by special flight from Yangon International Airport. They were seen off at the airport by General Maung Aye and Daw Mya Mya San, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe, Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, Members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in-(Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than and Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin Hla and their wives and Ambassador of India Mr Shyam Saran and Defence Attache Col Shakti Gurung and their wives.


(3) Chief of Indian Army Staff visits National Defence College

YANGON, 6 July-Chief of Indian Army Staff and Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee General VP Malik and party, accompanied by Director of Military Training Brig-Gen Aung Kyi, Ambassador of India Mr Shyam Saran and Defence Attache Col Shakti Gurung, visited National Defence College at 10 am today. On arrival at the college, General VP Malik and party were welcomed by Acting Commandant of the college Col Ye Phone Myint, heads of departments and chief instructors.

Col Ye Phone Myint ex- tended greetings to the General and party at the briefing hall of the college. He then explained salient points of the college with audio-visual aids. Afterwards General VP Malik and Col Ye Phone Myint exchanged gifts. General VP Malik then extended greetings. The General and party visited the exhibition hall of the college. General VP Malik and party also visited Zafar Shah Mausoleum.

(4) General Maung Aye plays friendly golf with General VP Malik

YANGON, 6 July-Vice-Chairman Of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye played friendly golf with Chief of Indian Army Staff and Chairman of Chief of Staff Committee General VP Malik at Thiriyadana Golf Club at Konmyintlha this morning.

Members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Nyunt Thein Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than and Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Ambassador of India Mr Shyam Saran, members of the Indian goodwill delegation and senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence also took part in the friendly golf.

Before the friendly game, General Maung Aye and General VP Malik and officials had documentary photos taken together. After the game, General Maung Aye presented gifts to General VP Malik and party .


(5) Dr Ranjana Malik and party visit Women's Development Division

YANGON 6 July-Dr Ranjana Malik, wife of Chief of Indian Army Staff and Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee General VP Malik, and party, accompanied by Daw Thet Thet Swe, wife of Director of Military Training Brig-Gen Aung Kyi, and officials, visited Women's Development Division (Yangon) of Socia1 Welfare Department this morning.

On arrival at the division at 9 am, Dr Ranjana Malik and party were welcomed by Commander of No 4 Military Region Command of Defence Services Records Office Brig-Gen Myo Myint, Vice-Chairperson of Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs Prof Daw May May Yi, Secretary Director General of Social Welfare Department U Sit Myaing, member Prof Daw Khin Aye Win and officials. Prof Daw May May Yi briefed them on history of the division, its aims, accomplishments, academic matters and occupational opportunities for the trainees. She then presented gifts to Dr Ranjana Malik and party. After presenting cash donations, Dr Ranjana Malik signed in the visitors' book. Officials conducted Dr Ranjana Malik and party around the division.

Dr Ranjana Malik and party then visited Myanma Gems Museum. They were conducted around the museum by Managing Director of Myanma Gems Enterprise U Khin Oo and officials.


(6) Minister for Mines meets Ambassador of Australia

YANGON, 6 July-Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint met Ambassador of Australia to the Union of Myanmar Mr Trevor David Wilson at his office on Kanbe Road at 3 pm today. Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein and officials of the ministry.

(7) Minister receives Singaporean Ambassador

YANGON, 6 July-Minister for Education U Than Aung received Singaporean Ambassador to the Union of Myanmar Mr Simon De Cruz at his office this morning.

They discussed matters pertaining to cooperation of bilateral education.  Also present at the call were Deputy Ministers for Education Brig- Gen Soe Win Maung and U Myo Nyunt and official.


(8) Meeting held to coordinate cultivation of industrial crops

YANGON, 6 July - A coordination meeting on extension of cultivation of such industrial crops as cotton, sugarcane, coffee and oil palm was held in the meeting hall of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation this afternoon, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development- Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo. The Secretary-2 said that as emphasis has been given to development of the agriculture sector, a basic economic sector of the State, the agriculture sector is making progress to some extent.

Specially, the progress achieved in production of paddy and pulses and beans is very considerable; with regard to production of industrial crops, there is progress as a whole, but it is needed to produce crops not only for domestic sufficiency but also for exporting surpluses.

Out of industrial crops, sown-acreage of cotton and sugarcane has been extended, and high-yield strains are to be used to boost crop yield.

At the fields watered by dams built with the use of large sums of money by the government, high-yield strains are to be used to beef up production. Only when there are sufficient industrial crops, will industries develop. Arrangements are to be made to boost production of industrial crops considerably; the administrative organization will provide necessary assistance. Then, Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin said and The Secretary-2 gave instructions on the work.



 
(9) AWB makes donations to Sarthintaiks in Minbn

YANGON, 6 July- Asia Wealth Bank Ltd made donations to two Sarthintaiks Yun Kyaungtaik Thettawshay Kyaung and Thameikdawdaya Thudhammasari Nunnery in Minbu, Magway Division this afternoon.

The donation ceremony held at the Directorate of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute was attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and officials. Vice-Chairman of AWB U Aik Tun spoke on the occasion.

He said with the assistance of the government AWB had achieved success and won the confidence of the people. AWB donates proceeds from its business to nation-building tasks,- public welfare tasks as well as health, education, social and religious activities. Since 1995, AWB has donated over K 480 million to the tasks and is to continue to make donations, he said. Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo accepted K 1 million from U Aik Tun for the two Sarthintaiks. The Secretary-2 presented a certificate of honour to him.

(10) Secretary-3 Lt- Gen Win Myint attends donation ceremony

YANGON, 6 July-A ceremony to present donations to the welfare funds of Defence Services Medical Services, Defence Services Institute of Medicine, Defence Services Institute of Nursing and Central Medical Store Depot of Ministry of Defence Services was held at the Directorate of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute at 4 pm today.

Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint attended the ceremony and accepted the donations.

Donations included K 15 million donated by Chairman of Kanbawza Bank Ltd and wife Vice-Chairperson Thiri Thudama Theingi Thiha Thudama Theingi Agea Maha Thri Thudama Theingi Daw Nan Than Htway and family, K 10 million by Asia Pacific Edible Oil Co,

Kyat  five million by Chairman of Shwe Than Lwin Co U Kyaw Win, K five million by U Maung Gyi of Shell Family Co, K five million by U Shwe Hlaing of Wah Wah Win Co and K five million by Chairman of Diamond Dragon Co Gantgawdaw U Myo Aung to Secretary-3 Lt- Gen Win Myint who presented certificates of honour to the donors.

Chairman of Diamond Dragon Co Gantgawdaw U Myo Aung, on behalf of the donors, explained the purpose of the donation. Then, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint expressed the gratitude, and the ceremony came to an end.


(11) Meeting of ASEAN Experts Group conclude

YANGON 6 July -The Third Meeting of the ASEAN Experts Group OD Herbal and Medicinal Plants and the Second Meeting of the ASEAN Experts Group on Research and Development (R&D) for Forest Products continued for the last day at the Sedona Hotel this morning and concluded in the  evening.

The meetings were attended by experts from Brunei, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand,  Vietnam, Laos and Indonesia and observers.

The delegates to the Third Meeting of the ASEAN Experts Group on Herbal and Medicinal Plants discussed matters arising from the second meeting of the ASEAN Experts Group on Herbal and Medicinal Plants, matters relating to technology transfer and trade promotion in herbal and  medicinal plants between ASEAN member nations and China matters pertaining to the  Third Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry (ASOF) to be held in Yangon from 10 to 12 July, the passing of a decision to hold the Fourth Meeting of the ASEAN Experts Group OD Herbal and Medicinal Plants in the Philippines in July 2001 and the approval of the report of the Third Meeting.

The meeting ended with the concluding speech by Chairman Dr Myat Moe.  The delegates to the  Second Meeting of the ASEAN Experts Group on Research and Development (R&D) for Forest Products discussed matters relating to technology transfer of wood products between ASEAN member  nations and China, matters related to the preparation for the Third Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry (ASOF) to be held in Yangon from 10 to 12 July and the passing of a decision to  hold the Third Meeting of the ASEAN Experts Group on Research and Development (R&D) for Forest Products in the Philippines in July 2001 and the approval of the report of the Second Meeting.

Chairman U Myint Kyu Pe delivered a concluding speech, which brought the meeting to a close.


(12) Delegates to ASEAN Forestry Meetings tour Hlawga Wildlife Park

YANGON 6 July-The delegates of Brunei, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and : Indonesia and ASEAN Secretariats who attended the Third Meeting of the ASEAN Experts Group on Heart and

Medicinal Plants and the Second Meeting of the ASEAN Experts Group on Research and development for Forest Products hosted by Myanmar, accompanied by officials of  the Ministry of Forestry, arrived at Myanma Gems Museum of Ministry of Mines on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road in Mayangon Township, this afternoon.

They were welcomed and conducted round the museum by the officials.

They then proceeded to Hlawga Wildlife Park of Ministry of Forestry in Mingaladon Township, and were welcomed by Director of Department of Preservation Environment and Wild Life of Ministry of Forestry U Khin Maung Zaw and officials.

Afterwards, the delegates were briefed on facts about the Hlawga Wildlife Park with the audio visual aids.

Next, they observed the booths on. Preservation of Environment and toured round the park by car and went back in the evening.

(13) SRV TV delegation arrives for shotting Myanmar's beauty and culture

YANGON 6 July-A six-member delegation of Television Department of Socialist Republic of Vietnam led by Deputy Director Mr Phung Huy Bien arrived here by air yesterday evening to shoot Myanmar's scenic beauty and culture. The delegation was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Director (Admin) of Myanma Radio and Television U Phon Myint, Secretary of Vietnamese Embassy to the Union of Myanmar Mr Nguyen Van Mung and officials.


(14) Voters of Taze Township unanimously petition for dissolving pessimist NLD

YANGON, 6 June-Voters from Taze Township, Sagaing Division, expressed no support for pessimist National League for Democracy and petitioned for dissolving it at nine venues on 23 May morning.

Over 5,000 people from five villages of Taze attended the ceremony to petition for dissolving NLD at People's Sports Ground in Bomya Ward of the town. On behalf of attendancees, U Than Tin of Paw Oo Ward expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U San Lin of the same ward on behalf of people of Village tract presented a petition signed by the people of Chairman of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Win Myint.

The ceremony ended with the chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes".

Over 2,4000 people from six villages attended the similar ceremony at the Sports Ground of Chaungyoe Village Basic Education Middle School. On behalf of attendance, Daw Khin San Kyi of Chaungyoe Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U Tint Swe of the same village, on behalf of the people of the villages, presented letters of petition signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Subcommission U Kyaw Kyaw Win.

A similar ceremony was attended by ova 4500 people from five village-tracts at the Sports Ground of Basic Education High School in Kantuma Village. On behalf of the attendants, U San of Kantuma Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it U Khin Maung Tint, on behalf of people of village-tracts, presented letters of petition signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Daw Phuy Phyu Tint

A total of 4050 people from seven villages attended the similar ceremony at the Sports Ground of Ywashay (North) Village Basic Education Middle School.

U Po Cho of Ywashay (North) Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U Min Aung of the same village, presented letters of petition signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Thein Aung.

Likewise, over 3,600 people from six villages attended the similar ceremony at the Sports Ground of Thittawpauk Village Primary School. U Mya Oo of Thittawpauk Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U Chit Aung of Thasigon Village, presented letters of petition signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Kyaw Tint.

A total of 2,85() people from seven villages attended the similar ceremony at the Sports Ground of Nabatgyi Village Basic Education High School.

U Tin Nyo of Nabatgyi Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U Myint Maung of Aung Changtha Village, on behalf of the people of villages, presented letters of petition signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Tun Hlaing.

A total of 7,600 people from six villages attended the similar ceremony at the Sports Ground of Yenge Village Basic Education Primary School.

U San Nyunt of Chaungyoe Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it U Hla Hsaing of Inthadar Village presented letters of petition signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Kan Thein.

Over 3977 people from seven villages attended the similar ceremony at the Sports Ground of Ywama Village Basic Education Middle School.

U Kyaw Win of Ywama Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U Thet Shay of Katoegon Village, presented letters of petition signed by the people to Join Secretary of Township. Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Mya Win.

Over 2000 people from four- villages attended the similar ceremony at the Sports Ground of Ywamon Village Basic Education High School U San Win of-Ywamontaung Village expressed on support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U Tin Swe of Pata Village, presented letters of petition signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Pa Ghi. There are 89,394 people who can vole in Taze Township.  The number of people who expressed no support for NLD and signed petition for dissolving it is 85093 people or 95.19 percent.

(15) 13 TadaU Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 6 July-Thirteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of TadaU Township, Mandalay Division. Thirteen members of TadaU Township NLD, Mandalay Divisions of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to TadaU Township Multiparty! Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 6 June 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.


(16)International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed

YANGON, 6 July-A ceremony to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held at City Hall, Lashio, Shan State (North) at 8.30 am on 5 June.

Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander of North-East Command Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo chaired and delivered a speech on the occasion. The message of the Chairman of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control was read out by Joint-Commander of the State Police Col Thein Han. Outstanding policemen and staff who took part in Drug Abuse Cases and  winners of essay, poem, cartoon, song and short play competitions were awarded. A similar ceremony was held at Aung Myat Hall of Tachilek Township, Shan State (East) at 9 am the same day.

Similar ceremony was held at City Hall, Loikaw Township, Kayah State at 10 am on 26 June, attended by Chairman of Kayah State Peace and Development Council Col Nyunt Hlaing.

Commander of State Police Force Police Col Kyaw Myint read out the message of Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing and Assistant Law Officer of the State U Tun Aung and Physician Dr Min Han lectured on the danger of drugs. Then Prize winning students were awarded and the ceremony came to an end at 11.30 am.
