(1)  State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe accepts credentials of  Ambassador of the Commonwealth of Australia
 
YANGON, 23 June - Mr Trevor David Wilson, newly-accredited Ambassador of the Commonwealth of  Australia to the Union of Myanmar, presented his credentials to Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the  State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence  at 10am today.
 


 
(2)  321 kilos of heroin, 1869 kilos of opium, over 30 million stimulant tablets and other drugs put to torch  Secretary-1 attends 14th Destruction of Narcotic Drugs seized by law enforcement agencies
 
YANGON, 23 June- The Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) sponsored the 14th  Destruction of Narcotic Drugs seized by Law Enforcement Agencies at Aungthabye Ye Yeiktha on Kyaikwaing  Pagoda Road in Mayangon Township at 8 am today, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and  Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
 
 Also present on the occasion were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of  Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander, Chairman  of CCDAC Minister for Home  Affairs, Vice-Chairmen of CCDAC Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and  Development Affairs and Minister for Foreign Affairs, ministers, deputy ministers, departmental heads,  Ambassadors, Charges d'Affaires, Military Attaches, resident representatives and officials of UN agencies,  Secretary of CCDAC Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police and members, members of  respective work groups, senior police officers of MPF Headquarters, local and foreign correspondents led by  Managing Director of News and Periodicals Enterprise and guests.
 
Police Inspector Aye Aye Soe of Special Investigation Department and Sub-Police Inspector Ma Pyone of  CCDAC acted as master and joint master of ceremonies.
 


(3)  ASEAN standing as united and consolidated association ASEAN Steering Committee meets
 
YANGON, 23 June - ASEAN Steering Committee held its 2^200 meeting at the Office of the  Commander-in-Chief (Army) of the Ministry of Defence this afternoon, addressed by Chairman of the  Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
 
Secretary of the  Committee Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win sought the approval of the  minutes of the previous meeting.
 
Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung reported on matters relating to ASEAN meetings attended by  Myanmar delegates.
 
Ministers and deputy ministers presented matters relating to BIMST-EC.  After giving suggestions, the Secretary-1 gave the concluding remarks.

(4)  Secretary-1 views display at Exhibition on Narcotic Drugs
 
YANGON, 23 June - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,  accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, arrived at Tatmadaw  Convention Center on U Wisara Road at 1.20 pm today.  Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt viewed the display at the Exhibition on Narcotic Drugs sponsored by  CCDAC national Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which fall on 26 June.
 
Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt gave instructions to officials and left there in the afternoon.
 


(5)  Secretary-2 inspects tax-free market and cultivation of vegetables
 
YANGON, 23 June- Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, accompanied by  Chief of Staff(Navy) Rear-Admiral and officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, inspected  the tax-free market of vegetable and fish and meat producers under the supervision of Yangon City  Development Committee at the corner of Hanthawady and Kyundaw Streets in Kamayut Township this  morning.
 
The Secretary-2 and party inspected the shops in the market and cordially conversed with shopkeepers and  buyers.
 
Then, the Secretary-2 urged the officials to provide systematic supervision with a view to realizing the  objectives of the tax-free market.
 
Afterwards, the Secretary-2 and party proceeded to Shwenatha Regional Battalion in Mingalardon Township,  where they were welcomed by the Battalion Commander Lt-Col Myint Oo and officials.
 
The Secretary-2 inspected production process of drinking water, warehouses and the main water purifying  room in the compound of Pale Purified Water Factory, and gave instructions.
 
Next, the Secretary-2 inspected vegetable columns of the battalion, units and families and the cashew  plantations.
 
Afterwards, the Secretary-2 went to Myasein Thabawa Ziwa Vegetable Farm jointly established by the  regional battalion and Myasein Thabawa Agricultural Group and inspected plantation columns of various vegetables  grown with the use of natural fertilizers.  Then, the Secretary-2 inspected the poultry farm.
 
Later, the Secretary-2 inspected the hall of the battalion, the quarters and the messing hall, and gave  instructions to the officials.
 
 The Secretary-2 also met with families of the battalion.
 
Then, the Secretary-2 gave instructions on welfare work and staff and administrative affairs.   Next, the Secretary-2 and party went to the garment factory of Myanmar Tah Hsin Industrial Co. Ltd at  Mingalardon Industrial Zone.
 
The Secretary-2 inspected the messing hall of the factory employees and production process of rain coats  and warm clothes.
 
The Secretary-2 left the factory in the afternoon.
 


(6)  Ministry of Health holds first four-monthly coord meeting
 
YANGON, 23 June - The Ministry of Health held the first four-monthly coordination meeting at Medical  Research Department this morning.
 
At the meeting, the minister gave instructions on reviewing strong and weak points and taking immediate  remedial measures and drawing future plans.
 
In the afternoon, Heads of State and Division Health Departments and Medical Superintendents reported on  tasks undertaken.
 
In the evening, the minister gave the concluding remarks.

(7) With international assistance Myanmar's 15-year drug eradication plan will be implemented in 12 years  or sooner
 
YANGON, 23 June - A press conference on the 14th destruction of seized narcotic drugs by the Central  Committee for Drug Abuse Control was held in the meeting hall of Aungthabye Ye Yeiktha on Kyaikwaing  Pagoda Road in Mayangon Township this morning.
 
Correspondent of NTV News Agency U Aung Shwe Oo, Correspondent of Nihon Keizai Shimbun U Hla Htwe  and Correspondent of NHK News Agency U Khin Maung Myint raised questions.
 
In replying to their questions, Col Kyaw Thein and Dr Ba Thaung of Narcotic Treatment and Research  Department.
 


(8) Three Men get 10 to 15 years' imprisonment
 
YANGON, 23 June - The Shan State Court handed down sentences of 10, 15 and 15 years' imprisonment on  three men found with illegal drugs on 15 February 1999.
 
Members of Taunggyi Township Police Force searched three suspects Sai Tit, 23, son of U Aung Tun, Hla  Win (a) Kya Myint , 26, son of U Shauk Chun and Khun Nwum Hsai, 28, son of U Aung Sein, of Yay-aye-dwin  Ward, Taunggyi, at the gate of the same ward on 15 June 1998 and seized 101 stimulant tablets.
 
They were tried under Section 19(A)/21 and 20 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law and  sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment on Sai Tit under Section 19(A), 15 years' imprisonment on Hla Win (a)  Kya Myint under Section 19(A)/21 and 15 years' imprisonment on Khun Nwum Hsai under Section 20 (A)  respectively.
 


(9) 78,185 eligible voters of Minhla submit petitions expressing no confidence in NLD representative-elect  Daw Hla Hla Moe
 
YANGON, 23 June - A total of 78,185 eligible voters of Minhla Township Constituency-2, Bago Division,  petitions expressed no confidence in and no support for Daw Hla Hla More elected as Pyithu Hluttaw  Representative of National League for Democracy in the 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election from  Minhla Township Constituency-2 and petitioned for dissolving NLD at rallies in five venues held in Minhla  Township on 10 May morning.
 
A total of 25,915 wards and village tracts rallied at Aungtagun Sports ground.
 
Merchant U Soe Paing from Aung Mingala 2nd Street, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in  Daw Hla Hla Moe of National League for Democracy, no support for her and petitioned for dissolving NLD  Then merchant U Than Oo from KanU Ward, on behalf of the voters, presented declarations expressing no  confidence in Daw Hla Hla Moe, no support for her and petitioned for dissolving NLD signed by voters to  member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Tin Maung Win.
 
Altogether 6,496 local people of 11 village-tracts rallied in Seinkantlant Village.
 
Farmer U Aye Cho from Seinkantlant Village, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in Daw Hla  Hla Moe of National League for Democracy, no support for her and petitioned for dissolving  NLD. Then, U  Khin Maung Htay from Seinkantlant. Village, on behalf of the voters, presented declarations expressing no  confidence in Daw Hla Hla Moe, no support for her and petitioned for dissolving NLD signed by voters to  member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Kyaw Myint;
 
A total of 6,664 local people of 11 village-tracts rallied in Uto-Kanyinpin Village.
 
Farmer U Tin Sein from Oekwe Village, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in Daw Hla Hla Moe  of National League for Democracy, no support for her and petitioned for dissolving NLD. Then, farmer U Saw  Salet Satin from Sarphyusu Village, on behalf of the voters, presented declarations expressing no confidence  in Daw Hla Hla Moe, no support for her and petitioned for dissolving NLD signed by voters to member of  Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Tin Win.
 
 A total of 13,168 local people of 11 village-tracts rallied in Shatawkwin Village.
 
Farmer U Than Htwe from Thedaw Village, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in Daw Hla Hla  Moe of National League for Democracy, no support for her and petitioned for dissolving NLD. Then, farmer U  Kyaw Min Tun from Innboke kone Village, on behalf of the voters, presented declarations expressing no  confidence in Daw Hla Hla Moe, no support for her and petitioned for dissolving NLD signed by voters to  member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub- commission U San Win.
 
Similar a ceremony was held in Sitkwin Village, attended by 4,254 local people from 11 village-tracts.  Farmer U Mya Kan from Oktin Village, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in Daw Hla Hla Moe  of National League for Democracy, no support for her and petitioned for dissolving NLD. Then, farmer U Hla  Win from Sitkwin Village, on behalf of the voters, presented declarations expressing no confidence in Daw  Hla Hla Moe, no support for her and petitioned for dissolving NLD signed by-voters to member of Township  Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Dr Than Tun.
 
Out of 35,260 eligible voters of Minhla Township Constituency-2, 18,282 or 46.10 per cent voted for Daw Hla  Hla Moe of NLD in 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election.
 
Out of 89,547 eligible voters in Minhla Township, the number of people, who presented signed petitions of  no confidence in Daw Hla Hla Moe and the petitions for dissolving NLD, totalled 78,185 or 87.31 per cent.

(10) 36 Ye Township NLD members resign of own accord
 
YANGON, 23 June - Thirty-six members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Ye Township  NLD, Mon State, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Ye Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 11 November 1999 as they no  longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
