(1)  Special Refresher Course No 6 for Basic Education Teachers opens at CICS (Upper Myanmar)

YANGON, 17 June-Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by the ministers, the Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board, the Chief of Staff (Air), the deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads and officials, left hereby Tatmadaw flight yesterday morning and arrived at Mandalay at 12.45 pm.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 attended the opening ceremony of the Special Refresher Course No 6 for Basic Education Teachers at Yadana Hall, Central Institute of Civil Service (Upper Myanmar) in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Division, yesterday afternoon and delivered an opening address.

Then, the Secretary-1 cordially met trainee teachers.

A total of 1,000 trainees from States and Divisions are attending the course.

Next, the Secretary-1 and party inspected progress in Building of the Institute.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the computer room of the Institute.


(2) Zeebingyi People's Hospital (50-bed) in PyinOoLwin Township inaugurated

YANGON, 17 June - The opening ceremony of Zeebingyi People's Hospital (50-bed) in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Division held was attended by Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint and Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein formally opened the hospital.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt pressed the button to unveil the stone plaque of the hospital.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected patient wards, operation theatre, the laboratory and X-ray room.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party arrived back in Mandalay in the evening.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt  and party went to the construction site of Nationalities Youth Resource Development Degree College (Mandalay).

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt fulfilled the requirements.

Afterwards, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected progress of construction work of three-storey building.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party went to Yaynaya-2 vessel at Mandalay port of Transport Department.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended to their needs and inspected the Asia Profit Flat-Top Cargo Barge.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party spent the night in Mandalay.


(3) Secretary-2 inspects Bawle River Bridge project in Htantabin Timely completion of bridge with set standard urged

YANGON, 17 June - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo went to No-1 Farm Machinery Factory of Agricultural Mechanization Department at 9th Mile, Mayangon Township, this morning, and inspected farm equipment which can be used with power-tiller.

Then, the Secretary-2 and party left for Htantabin Township by car.

In Htantabin Township, the Secretary-2 and party inspected the road linking Hline River Bridge (Myochaung) and Bawle River Bridge (Yaybawthoung) and the construction site of Htantabin-Hleseik-Kyaman-Bawle Road. He gave instructions on upgrading the five miles and six furlongs long Shandawgyi-Kyaman earthern road and the three miles and six furlongs long Kungyangon-Tawlati earthern road into the laterite roads, construction of wooden bridges on the road and planting trees on the sides of the road, and attended to their needs.

Then, the Secretary-2 and party proceeded to the construction site of Bawle River Bridge (Yaybawthoung).

With regard to the reports, the Secretary-2 attended to the needs and left instructions on worksite safety and opening of the bridge with set standard earlier than the scheduled time.

Afterwards, the Secretary-2 gave necessary instructions.

At 1 pm, the Secretary-2 and party left Bawle River Bridge (Yaybawthoung).

(4) Secretary-2 inspects Nyaunghnapinkwin Vegetable Cultivation and Production Centre in Hmawby

YANGON, 17 June-Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Chief of Staff (Navy) Rear-Admiral, Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries and officials visited Vegetable Cultivation and Production Centre of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council at Nyaunghnapinkwin Village in Hmawby Township, Yangon Division, this afternoon.

Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party inspected construction of Satthwadaw-Kyakansu Road.

At the briefing hall, Director-General Col Myo Myint reported to Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo on construction of Yangon-Ngah-sudaung-Bago road.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo gave necessary instructions to officials.

Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party inspected construction of Yangon-Ngahsudaung-Bago road.

The Secretary-2 and party went to Livestock Breeding Farm No 1 of Yangon Command in Sawbwagyigon in Insein Township.

The Secretary-2 and party inspected production of chicken sausage.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended to their needs.

Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party inspected breeding of over 32,000 of broiler finisher in No 1 poultry farm and Taishwegon meat and vegetable shop of Yangon Command and left there in the evening.


(5) Secretary-3 attends opening of Samonpauk Bridge

YANGON, 17 June-Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint, accompanied by Ministers, Deputy Ministers and officials left Mandalay by helicopter this morning and arrived in Myittha at 8.50 am.

The Secretary-3 delivered an address at the inauguration of Samonpauk Bridge linking Myittha and Myingyan.

The Secretary-3 urged local authorities and people to participate in construction of roads and bridges in Mandalay Division.

The Secretary-3 presented gifts to Deputy Senior Engineer U Hsan Win of Samonpauk Bridge Project.

Ministers Maj-Gen Saw Tun and U Thaung formally opened the bridge.

Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun formally unveiled the stone plaque.

The Secretary-3 and party inspected the bridge.

The Secretary-3 and party then went to the site of Tetkon diversion weir in Myittha Myothit.

The Secretary-3 gave instructions on early completion of the weir, availability of water for farmers and cultivation of targeted acreage.

The Secretary-3 inspected the project site.

The Secretary-3 and party went to Myittha Basic Education High School to attend the opening of multimedia teaching centre.

The Secretary-3 delivered an address at the presentation of teaching aids to Myittha BEHS.

Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and party left Myittha for Mandalay.

Then, the Secretary-3 and party left Mandalay for Yangon.

Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and party arrived back here in the evening.

(6) Minister meets Thai visitors

YANGON, 17 June-Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone met Chairman Mr Paniti Tungphati and party of Win Thai Knitting Industrial Co.Ltd at his office this afternoon.


(7) Heroin seized in Kalay

YANGON, 17 June-A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched the house of U Gin Khan Hauk of Region 5 Pinlon Ward, Kalay and seized Khinn Lyan Paung(a)Pa Paung, drug trafficker of Tweiman Village in Tunzan Township on 7 June 2000.

After further investigation, the team also searched the house of U Kyaw Thein of Tarhan Region 18, Kalay, being rented by Khinn Lyan Paung and seized three packets of heroin weighing 68.58 gms hidden in two lady shoes in an iron box. Action is being taken against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.


(8) 11 Bago NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 17 June-Eleven members, of their own accord, resigned from the National League for Democracy of Bago Township, Bago Division.

The 11 NLD members sent letters of resignation to Bago Township Multi-party Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 13 December 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
