(1)  State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe sends message of condolence to Syria

YANGON, 11 June-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Than Shwe has sent a message of condolence to His Excellency Dr Mohammad Mostafa Miro, Prime Minister for the Syrian Arab Republic of the recent passing away of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, His Excellency Mr Hafez Al-Assad.


(2)Secretary-2 gives instructions on prawn breeding in Pyapon

YANGON, 11 June-Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, accompanied by Commander Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, the ministers and the deputy ministers, met with prawn-breeding entrepreneurs at Pyapon, Ayeyawady Division, this afternoon. .

The Secretary-2 said that Ayeyawady Division is a geographically-favored division for prawn breeding. Just as Ayeyawady Division cultivates and produces paddy the most, but it will also become a division on which the State can place reliance for prawn breeding in future. Prawn breeding is being undertaken on 5,000 acres of land, and those who would like to breed prawns on a commercial scale, have applied for plots of land. The acres of land suitable for prawn breeding will be allotted to those who are capable of undertaking prawn breeding.

Afterwards, Commander Maj- Gen Thura Shwe Mann and Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun spoke. Afterwards, the secretary -2 attended to requirements and give instructions on prawn breeding. The secretary-2 and party arrived back here by helicopter at 3.45 pm.


(3)  Shwehtidaw hoisted atop Aung Hsutaungpyi Shwenatha Pagoda in Shwenatha Sanpya Myothit

YANGON, 11June- Shwehtidaw hoisting and consecrating ceremonies of Aung Hsutaungpyi Shwenatha Pagoda were held in Shwenatha Sanpya Myothit in Mingaladon Township this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Congregation received the Nine Precepts from Presiding Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Kesara of Mya Thein Tan Kyaungtaik in Pazundaung Township.Disciples presented Patina water, flowers and  thread to the members of the Sangha. Members of the Sangha recited parittas.

The Secretary-2 presented Seinbudaw and Hngetmyat-nadaw to Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita. The Secretary-2, the minister, the deputy ministers and well-wishers presented offertories to members of the Sangha.

Presiding Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Kesara of Mya Thein Tan Kyaungtaik delivered a sermon, followed by sharing merits. A ceremony to consecrate the pagoda was then held. The Secretary-2, Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, the deputy ministers and wellwishers conveyed Seinbudaw, Hngetmyat-nadaw and tiers of the Golden Htidaws to decorated float. At the same tine well wishers and officials hoisted htidaws atop eight encircling pagodas. Officials then performed rituals of golden and sliver showers to mark the success of the ceremony.

(4)  Secretary-2 attends opening ceremony of Yadana Theikdi  Sasana Beikmandaw in Pyapon

YANGON, 11 June-Ceremonies to open Yadana Theikdi Sasana Beikmandaw and.to share merits for the Beikmandaw were held at the Beikmandaw in Pyapon Township, Pyapon District, Ayeyawady Division this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Then Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the opening ceremony of Yadana Theikdi Sasana Beikmandaw and presented offertories to the members of the Sangha. Then, a ceremony to share merits for the construction of Pyapon District Yadana Theikdi Sasana Beikmandaw was held . The secretary-2 Lt- Gen Tin Oo , Commander , deputy minister and party presented offertories to members of the Sangha. After the ceremony, Secretary-2 Lt- Gen Tin Oo performed the rituals of golden and silver showers to mark the success of the ceremony.


(5)Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers donate provisions to monasteries

YANGON, 11 June-Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers donated rice, edible oil and cash to the branch of Myatheindan, Tipitaka Maha Gandayon, Saddhamma Pijjotayon and Maha Boditahtaung monasteries in Shwenathat Sanpya Myothit of Mingaladon Township, Yangon North District, at the branch of Myatheindan Monastery in the precinct of Shwenatha Pagoda this morning.

The congregation recited Namo Tassa three times at the opening ceremony and received the Nine Precepts from Presiding Nayaka of the branch of Myatheindan Pariyatti Monastery Maha Saddhamma Jotika Sayadaw Bhaddanta Indaka. Then, Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung and Brig-Gen Win Sein and Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo donated provisions to the Sayadaws. After the ceremony, well-wishers offered 'soon' to members of the Sangha.


(6) Myanmar delegation leaves for ROK

YANGON, 11 June-At the invitation of Chairman of Canaan Farmer's School of the Republic of Korea Mr Kim Bumil, a Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung left for ROK on a study tour by air this morning.

(7)  PRC art & acrobatic troupe leaves

YANGON, 11 June-The art and acrobatic troupe of the People's Republic of China which staged performances in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and PRC in Myanmar, left for home by air this afternoon.


(8)  Minister inspects construction of bridges

YANGON, 11 June-Minister for Construction MajGen Saw Tun, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials, inspected Dedaye-Pyapon Road by car yesterday afternoon. The minister and party also inspected Chaungdwin Bridge, 236 feet long, and Thaleikkalay Bridge, 100 feet long, on Pyapon-Kyaiklatt Road.

They proceeded to Thaleiklcyi Bridge. Project Engineer U Htay Myint reported on progress of work of building 180-footlong Thaleikkyi Bridge. The minister gave instructions on timely completion of construction work. Then, the minister and party went to Gonnyindan Bridge Project. In the briefing hall of the project this morning, Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun heard a report on construction of Gonnyindan Bridge by Deputy Superintending Engineer U Htay Myint. The minister inspected the project and called on officials to build the bridge in acc'ord with the set standards.


(9)  Myanmar delegation back from PRC

YANGON, 11 June- Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan which attended Kunming Trade Fair 2000 held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, People's Republic of China, from 6 to 10 June, at the invitation of the Yunnan Province Government of PRC, arrived They were welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by departmental heads and officials under the Ministry of Commerce, officials of the PRC Embassy to the Union of Myanmar and their families.

(10) Drug possessor gets 5 years

YANGON, 11 June- Members of Lashio Township Myanmar Police Force searched Aung Tun, son of U Marit Tan, No 8 Ward, Lashio Township, on 15 January 1999 and seized 0.00007 kg of heroin on him.

He was tried under Section 15/16(C) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Lashio Township Court and sentenced to three years' imprisonment under Section 15 and five years' imprisonment under Section 16(C) to serve concurrently on 20 February 2000.


(11)  24 members of armed groups exchange arms for peace

YANGON,11 June-The State Peace and Development Council, upholding Our Three Main National Causes, is implementing political, economic and social objectives of the State with the aim of ensuring emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation, and is making all-out efforts for the further strengthening of national solidarity.

Realizing the correct deeds and genuine goodwill of the State and the Tatmadaw and the fact that destructive acts perpetrated for years were not by any means beneficial to the State and the people, and due to those acts, their regions lagged behind in development, armed groups are exchanging arms for peace individually or in groups, abandoning the jungle life with the aim of joining the people and the Tatmadaw to strive for regional development. An armed group comprising ten members led by Intelligence Commander Aik Tan of remnant SURA, bringing five assorted arms, eight rounds of ammunition and two magazines, exchanged arms for peace at a Tatmadaw camp in Tachilek region, Triangle Region Command, on 3 June morning.

Fourteen member led by Section Leader Kya La of remnant LDF (Lahu Armed Group), bringing along with them eight assorted arms, 155 rounds of ammunition, seven magazines, one grenade and one mine, exchanged arms for peace at a Tatmadaw camp in Tachilek region, Triangle Region Command on 7 June morning.

A ceremony to mark the exchange of arms for peace by those groups was held at the regional battalion in Tachilek on 8 June morning, attended by Commander of Tactical Operations Command Col Soe Thein of Triangle Region Command and Senior Tatmadaw officers, the chairman of Tachilek District Peace and Development Council and members, departmental officials, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross and Fire Brigade, townselders and locals.

Commander of Tactical Operations Command Col Soe Thein made a speech on the occasion. Then, armed group members led by U Aik Tan and U Kya La who exchanged arms for peace presented arms and ammunition to Commander of Tactical Operations Command Col Soe Thein. Afterwards, Chairman of Tachilek District Peace and Development Council Lt- Col Thet Naing Win presented cash assistance to those who exchanged arms for peace.

Leaders of those remnant armed groups U Aik Tan and U Kya La thanked the officials for warm welcome and apologised for their misdeeds, saying that they will make concerted efforts for regional development hand in hand with the Tatmadaw and the people. Later, Townselder U Kyi Myint extended greetings to the armed groups. There remain other members of armed groups who will follow suit.

(12) 14 Patheingyi Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 11 lune-Fourteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Patheingyi Town- ship, Mandalay Division. Fourteen members of Patheingyi Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own accord, resigned by send- ing letters of resignation to Patheingyi Township Multipany Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 13 lanuary 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.


(13)Voters of Monywa Township unanimously submit petitions for dissolving pessimist NLD

YANGON, 11 lune-The people from Monywa Township, Monywa District, expressed no support for pessi- mist National League for De- mocracy and petitioned for dissolving it at rallies in 10 venues on 9 May. A total of 1,000 people from seven wards and village- tracts athended the raliv in Khawekyin Village.

On behalf of anendances, fanner U Khin Maung of Phothabonkaing Village ex- pressed no support for pessi- mist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Representatives of village-tracts, on behalf of attendances, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Daw Khin Tint.

In Tegyigon Village, 1,450 people from four village-tracts attended the rally. On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Aung Tin Chaw of Tegyigon Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Representatives of village-tracts, on behalf of attendance's, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Myint Soe.

A similar rally was attended by 1,500 people from six village-tracts in Kyauksitpon (North) Village.

On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Chit Moe of Kyauksitpon (North) Village expressed no support for present NLD petitioned for dissolving it. Representatives of village-tracts, on behalf of attendance, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Subcommission U Tun Wai. A total of 1,351 people from seven wards and Villagetract rallied in Kyaukka (North) Village.

On behalf of attendance, lacquerware entrepreneur U Tin Win of Kyaukka (North) Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Representatives of village-tracts, on behalf of attendance, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Than Lwin. A total of 1,800 people from four village-tracts attended the rally in Hsegyidaw Village.

On behalf of attendance, farmer U Kyi Moe of Hsegyidaw Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Representatives of Villagetract, on behalf of attendance, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Nyein.

A similar rally was attended by 1,150 people from five village-tracts in Khattagan (South) Village. On behalf of attendance, educational employee U Nay Linn of Khattagan (South) Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Representatives of village-tracts, on behalf of attendance,  signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Naing Win Tun. In Nagadwin Village, 1,900 people from eight village-tracts attended the rally.

On behalf of attendance, farmer U Hmat Tin of Paukpin Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Representatives of village-tracts, on behalf of attendance, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Subcommission U Zeya Maung. Altogether 1,800 people from five village-tracts rallied in Buba Village. The ceremonies ended with chanting of the slogan- Our Three Main National Causes. There are 173,851 people, who can vote, in Monyw Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for NLD and signed the petitions for dissolving it, is 161,477 people or 92.88 percent.
