(1) Commander meets farmers in Htantabin Township

YANGON,  l0 June-Member of  the  State Peace  and Development  Council  Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and  Development  Council  Commander of Yangon  Command Maj-Gen  Khin Maung Than and Deputy  Director of Yangon Division Settlement and Land Records Department U Naing Win  met  local  farmers  in  Htanlabin  Township  this afternoon  and  discussed regional development  and agricultural matters.

In  meeting  with  farmers  of  Htoochaung, Let-thin, Asugyi,  Sandayaw  and  Pandaing  Village  Tracts,  the commander  said it is  time  to  start  cultivation  of monsoon  paddy so that summer  paddy  cultivation  will also  be undertaken in succession.  It will  be beneficial  to the farmers  and their  living  standard will  be  raised,  he  said.  Chairman of Htantabin Township  Peace and  Development  Council U Thaung  Han reported  on  cultivation  and  regional development. Next,  local  farmers  reported  on  requirements and regional development.  The commander then fulfilled the requirements.  A total of 88,800 acres of monsoon paddy cultivation  will be undertaken in Htantabin  Township. Cultivation  acreage of present  year is more than that of the previous year.


(2)  Minister  for  Construction  inspects  roads  in Ayeyawady Division

YANGON, 10 June- Minister for Construction  Maj-Gen Saw Tun,  accompanied  by Deputy  Minister  Brig-Gen  Myint Thein  and  officials,  inspected Dalla-Twantay-Kungyangon-De daye Road yesterday.

At the office of the township  engineer in  Kungyangon, Yangon Division Superintending Engineer U Soe Nyunt and Senior  Engineer of South District U Myo Myint reported on  matters  related  to  Kanbe-Pyawbwelay-Dalla  Road, Twantay-Kungyangon Road and  Thanlyin-Thanatpin-Thongwa Road.

The  minister  gave  instructions  on  construction  of roads.  The  deputy  minister  called on  officials  to provide close  supervision for road repairs.  Member of the State Peace and  Development  Council  Commander of South-West  Command  Maj -Gen Thura Shwe Mann at tended the ceremony and made a speech.

Then,  Minister  Maj-Gen  Saw Tun said  that  Ayeyawady Bridge is situated  on  Yangon-Kungyangon-Dedaye-Pyapon Road, and it is of reinforced  concrete  type with iron framework.
The main  bridge is 1,423 feet long, and the  clearance is  36  feet high.  There  are  two 1,040-foot-long approach structures.  The total length of the bridge is 3,503  feet.  The  motor  road is 28 feet  wide and the waterway 360 feet wide.  The bridge can support  60-ton loads.  At the auspicious  time, the minister  formally drove No 5 concrete pile.


(3) General Knowledge Contest on Women's Affairs held

YANGON,  10  June-The  General  Knowledge Contest  on Women's  Affairs  to  mark  the  Myanmar Women's  Day University,  Degree  College and Basic  Education  High School levels was held at the respective  Universities, Colleges, Institutes and schools this morning.

Chairman of Work  Committee for the contest Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Secretary  Director-General of Social Welfare Department  U Sit  Myaing,  Director-General  of Higher Education Department (Lower Myanmar) U Saw Lwin, member of  Yangon  Division  Working Committee  for  Women's Affairs Daw Marlar Tint and  officials,  arrived at the Defence  Services  Institute of Medicine in  Mingaladon Township this morning.  Officials.

Then,  Chairman of Work  Committee Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and  party inspected cadets  of  Defence Services Institute  of Medicine  and cadets of Defence  Services Institute of Nursing who are taking part in the general knowledge contest.

Dr Daw Khin  Win  Shwe  and  party  also  observed  the general  knowledge  contest  at  Basic  Education  High School  No 2  in  Latha  Township  and  BEHS  No  2  in Sangyoung Township.

Director  (Admin and  Finance) of No 3 Basic  Education Department  U  Kyaw  Thin, chairmen  of  Yangon  West District,  Sangyoung  Township and Latha Township Peace and Development  Councils and Headmistress Daw Khin May Gyi and Daw Khin Ohn Myint  conducted  them  round  the contest.

(4) Minister  inspects  ancient  pagodas and cultural heritage in Bago

YANGON, 10 June-Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, Director-General U Khin Maung Latt, Managing  Director U Kyi Tun and officials, inspected  tourist attraction ancient  pagodas  and cultural heritage in Bago this morning.

Minister  Maj-Gen  Saw Lwin and  party  paid  homage to Hsutaungpyi  Shwemawdaw  Pagoda  in Bago at 9 am today. The minister and party made  donations for pagoda funds and  signed  in  the visitors' book.  The  minister inspected renovation of religious buildings.

At the Kambawza Thadi Palace, Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin heard  report  submitted  by an official of Ministry of Culture on Hanthawady  Palace of King  Bayintnaung.  He inspected Hanthawady  archaeological museum and Bamarathana throne.

In the afternoon, the minister and party paid obeisance to Shwethalyaung  reclining  Buddha image and Maha Zedi Pagoda.

The minister  made  donations  for the pagoda funds and signed in the  visitors'  book.  The minister and party then  left  Bago by car and  arrived  back  here in the evening.


(5) Shwemyaysi Natural Fertilizer Factory opened

YANGON, 10 June-As a gesture hailing the  International Day of  Cooperatives,  a  ceremony  to open  Shwemyaysi Natural  Fertilizer  Factory built by  Htet-Ar-Kar-Kyaw Agricultural and  General Merchandise Cooperative Syndicate. under  the arrangement of Bago Division Peace and  Development  Council,  was  held in  front  of the factory on Toungoo-Htantabin  Road four miles away from Toungoo this  morning.  Commander  Maj- Gen Tin Aye and Minister U Aung San Formally opened the factory.  Then, Chairman  U  Khin  Maung  Aye  presented  commemorative pennants  to  the  commander  and  the minister.  The construction of the factory started two years ago.  The factory has  produced  over 5,000 tons of EM Bokashi so far.


(6) Voters of Five  townships in PyinOoLwin  District unanimously  submit petitions for dissolving  pessimist NLD

YANGON,  10 June-Voters from  five townships in PyinOoLwin District, expressed no support for pessimist National League  for  Democracy  and  petitioned  for dissolving it at rallies in 10 venues from 4 to 13 May.

A total of 25,279 people from 39 wards and Villagetract attended  the rallies in Ward 2 and Shwepyi  Village in Singu Township.

Representatives  of local people  expressed  no support for pessimist NLD and  petitioned  for  dissolving  it. Other representatives,  on  behalf  of  attendance's, presented  petitions signed by the people to members of Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission Township Law Officer Daw Khin Aye Win at the rally in Ward 2 and Township Justice U Than Htwe at the rally in Shwepyi Village respectively.

Similarly, 22,310 people from 33 wards and Villagetract rallied in Myoma Sports Ground and Kyatpyin  Village in Mogok Township respectively.

Representatives  of local people  expressed  no support for pessimist NLD and  petitioned  for  dissolving  it. Other representatives,  on  behalf  of  attendance's, presented  petitions signed by the people to members of Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission  Township Health  Department  Officer Dr Tun  Kyi at  the  rally  in  Myoma  Sports  Ground  and Township  Law  Officer  U Kyaw  Shin  at the  rally  in Kyatpyin  Village  respectively.  In  Madaya  Township, 11,633 local people of 88 wards and villages rallied at Kanbyu Village and Taungbyone Village respectively.

Other  representatives, on behalf attendance's, presented  petitions signed by the people to members of Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission  Township  Education  Officer Daw Marlar May Thin at the rally in Kanbyu  Village  and  Township Justice U Than Win at the rally in  Taungbyone  Village respectively.

Likewise, 10,189  local  people  from  57  wards  and village-tracts  attended rallies at Myoma Sports Ground and Anisakhan-Hsingaunggyi Village  in PyinOoLwin Township respectively.

Representatives  of local people  expressed  no support for pessimist NLD and  petitioned  for  dissolving  it. Other representatives,  on  behalf  of  attendance's, presented  petitions signed by the people to members of Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission Head of Information and Public Relations Department  U Ngwe Tun at the  rally  in  Myoma  Sports Ground  and  Township  Law  Officer U Tin  Myint at the rally in Anisakhan-Hsingaunggyi Village respectively.

In Thabeikkyin Township, 8,270 local people of 22 wards and  village-tracts  attended  the rallies at Zayetkw n and Tagoung Villages.

Representatives  of local people  expressed  no support for pessimist NLD and  petitioned  for  dissolving  it. Other representatives, on  behalf  of  attendance, presented  petitions signed by the people to members of Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission Township' Deputy  Head  of  Township General  Administration  Department U Myint Shwe at the rally in Zayetkwin  Village and Township  Law Officer U Thein Naing  at  the rally in Tagoung Village respectively.

The rallies ended with chanting of the slogan-Our Three Main  National  Causes.  There are 368,582  people, who can vote, in  PyinOoLwin  win  District.  The number of people , who  expressed  no support  for NLD and signed the petitions for dissolving  it, is 353, 366 people or 95.  87 per cent.

(7)  Drug-trafficker gets 5 years

YANGON, 10 June-  Members  of Lashio  Township  Myanmar Police Force, searched suspect Kya Myint, son of U Khun Maw Phu, of Ward 7,  Lashio,  on 15  January  1999, and found 0.00001 kilo of heroin from him.

Action was taken against him  according to law.  He was sentenced to three years' imprisonment under Section 15 and five years'  imprisonment  under  Section 16 (C) of the Narcotic Drugs and  Psychotropic  Substances Law to serve  concurrently  on  23  February  1999  by  Lashio Township Court.

Youth golf team leaves for Singapore

YANGON, 10 June-  Myanmar  youth golf team this morning left here for  Singapore to  participate  in  Singapore Junior Golf Championship  2000 to be held from 13 to 15 June  in  Singapore.  They  were  seen  off  at  Yangon International  Airport by Chairman  of Myanmar  Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, President  of  Myanmar  Golf  Federation  Brig-Gen  Win Hlaing, officials and their families.

The Myanmar youths golf team  comprises  Head of Budget Department  of YCDC U Tin Aung  Win, as  leader,  Maung Kaung Myat Win, Maung Ye Myat Win, Maung Tun Lin, Maung Yan Myo Aye, Maung Phyo  Tayzar  Aung,  Maung Phyo Kyaw Kyaw,  Maung  Kyaw Nyo Lin,  Maung  Aung Kyaw  Kyaw and Maung Kyaw Kyaw Aung as golfers.

Malaysia beat Guam 15-0, Myanmar beat Laos 2 0

YANGON, 10 June-The  matches of the  Group-9 of the 9th Asian Youth Under 16 Soccer Qualifiers continued at Aung San  Stadium  this  evening.  Malaysian  and Guam teams took designated places  and  flags  of respective countries were hoisted.  In the match,  Malaysian Youth beat Guam  Youth  15-0.  Then,  Myanmar  Youth met Laos Youth in the second match.  Myanmar beat Laos 2-0.

Olympic Day Commemorative Shooting Contest

YANGON,  10  June-  Myanmar  Shooting  Federation  will sponsor the Olympic Day commemorative  shooting contest at the Okkalapa Shooting Range from 20 to 26 June.

Those wishing to participate  in the contest may enlist at the Okkalapa  Shooting Range of MSF by 22 June and - may contact for more information on the contest.

Olympic Day  Commemorative  Swimming  Contest on 24 June

YANGON, 10 June-The Olympic Day  Commemorative  Women's and  Men's  Age-wise  Swimming  Contest,  organized  by Myanmar  Swimming  Federation,  will  be  held  at  the National  Swimming  Pool on U  Wisara  Road on 24 June. Any  competitor  may take part in one event  out of the above- 16 age event,  the 10-12 age and the 8-12 age in women's and men's events.

The competitor must submit National  Registration  Card or Student  Identity Card or birth  certificate  to the MSF.  Those wishing to  participate  in the contest may enlist with fee K 20 at System Officer Daw Nilar Win of MSF Office,  not later than 20 June.  MSF will  present handsomely to first, second and third prize winners.

(9) 17 Ngazun  Township  NLD  members  resign  of own accord

YANGON, 10  June-Seventeen  members  resigned  from the National  League  for  Democracy  of  Ngazun  Township, Sagaing Division.  Seventeen members of Ngazun Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending  letters  of  resignation  to  Ngazun  Township Multiparty  Democracy  General Election  Sub-commission and the party  concerned  on 9 January  2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party  politics of NLD.
