(1) Heads of State, Heads of Government and Ministers for  Foreign  Affairs  of  Myanmar  and China  exchange messages of felicitations

YANGON,  8  June-On  the occasion  of  the Fiftieth Anniversary of  the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Union of Myanmar and the People's Republic of.  China,  the following messages of felicitations  were  exchanged  between  the  Heads  of State, the Heads of Government  and the  Ministers  for Foreign Affairs of the two countries.


( 2) Broader extension of private sea, freshwater prawn farming will increase nation's exports

YANGON, 7 June -An overview  meeting on prawn  breeding and  production in Yangon and Ayeyawady  Divisions  was held at the  Office  of the  Commander-in-Chief  (Army) this  afternoon,  addressed by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Speaking  on the  occasion,  Secretary-2  Lt-Gen Tin Oo said as the nation is rich in land and water resources, efforts are being made for progress of the  agriculture as well as the meat and fish sector.  Encouragement  is being  given  to  entrepreneurs  in  enabling them. to conduct sea and freshwater prawn breeding on commercial scale in Ayeyawady  Division, Yangon Division,  Rakhine State,  Taninthayi  Division, Bago  Division, Mon State and Kayin  State  where soil and water  conditions  are favourable  to set up  agriculture.  Virgin  lands  are permitted to be transformed  into prawn breeding ponds.

The meeting  ended with the  concluding  remarks by the Secretary-2.


(3) Deputy Minister meets Chinese Acrobatic troupe

YANGON, 7 June- Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt met a 30-member  acrobatic  troupe led by Mr Liu Wenbin at his office at 2 pm today.

Also present at the call were  Director-General U Myint Thein  Swe  of Department of  Cultural Institute, Director-General U  Nyunt Han  of Department of Archaeology, Acting Director General U Kyaw Win of Fine Arts  Department,  Rector  U Tin Soe of  University  of Culture, Cultural  Counsellor Mrs Ren Xiuzhi of Embassy of  China  and officials.  The  troupe  will  present entertainment  to the public at National  Theater  from today till 9 June.

(4)  Commander  attends  coordination meeting  of departments in Sagaing Division

YANGON,  7 June - A  coordination  meeting  of  various departments  in Sagaing  Division was held at Zeyathiri Hall of North-West  Command on 5 June morning.  Present were Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council  Commander of  North-West  Command  Maj-Gen Soe Win,  chairmen  of  District  and  Township  Peace  and Development Councils and departmental officials.

Commander Maj-Gen  Soe  Win  made  a  speech  on  the occasion.  Officials  of  departments  and  chairmen of District and Township  Peace and  Development  Councils reported to the commander on their functions and future tasks.  Commander  Maj-Gen  Soe Win  attended  to their needs.  Commander  Maj-Gen Soe Win spoke on the  occasion and looked into the requirements.


(5) Minister inspects forest conservation

YANGON,  7  June-Minister  for  Forestry  U Aung  Phone inspected  Bago  timber extraction region  in  Bago Township on 5 June.

Accompanied  by  officials, the  minister inspected extraction and transport of teak.  In Kyaikto Township, the minister  discussed with officials on  conservation and development of forests in Thaton  District.  During inspection of Hpa-an, the minister and party  discussed with  officials  on timber  extraction,  transport  and distribution.  The minister  and party also  extraction of timber at Theinzayat and Kyaikto jetties.


(6) Minister inspects bridges, railroads

YANGON; 7 June-Minister  for Rail  Transportation U Pan Aung,  accompanied  by officials,  inspected  roads and bridges on Mandalay Myitkyina  railroad on 4 June.  The minister inspected  demonstration of the transportation of marble  Buddha  image with the use of scale model at Ywahtaung  Locomotive  Shed on 5 June and  attended  to their  needs.  The minister gave instruction to officials and inspected production of spare parts to be used in railroad.

Minister U Pan Aung  inspected  production  of main fan elastic  coupling and gave  instructions  to officials. The minister  inspected the  production of oil seal and gave  instructions  to  officials.  Minister U Pan Aung then inspected production  of  trawler-G  and  gave instructions to officials.

(7) Transport Minister inspects TWT, MPA

YANGON, 7-Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe inspected Ahlon Shipyard of Inland Water  Transport this morning.

Accompanied by Deputy  Minister for Transport  Brig Gen Kyaw Myint, Managing  Director of IWT U Tun Aung Myint, Managing Director of Myanma Port Authority U Thein Htay and  officials,  the minister  heard a report on major, minor  and  emergency  repair  of  ships  at the  yard, growing of kitchen crops,  farming,  docking of vessels and  accomplishments  presented by personnel  concerned. After giving  suggestions, the minister went around the different  sections of the  engineering  division.  The minister and party inspected the progress in developing Wodan Jetty.

Lao PDR youth soccer team arrives

YANGON, 6 June-The Lao PDR youth  soccer team led by Mr Phounsavath Sommone arrived here yesterday to take part in the  9th  under-16  Asian  Youth  Soccer  Qualifiers Group-9 to be held at Thuwunna  Youth  Training Camp on 8, 10 and 12 June.

Soccer teams  pratise for Under-16  Asian Youth  Soccer Qualifiers

YANGON, 7 June-The  Lao PDR and the Guam  youth  soccer teams  which will take part in the 9th  under-16  Asian Youth Soccer Qualifiers Group-9 were practising for the matches at Aung San Stadium this morning Similarly, the Malaysia  youth  soccer  team was  also  practising  at Padonma sports grounds in Sangyoung  Township from 8 am to 10 am and at Aung San Stadium in the evening and the Laos team at Padonma sports grounds.


(9) PRC art and acrobatic troupe stages performances

YANGON, 7 June - The art and  acrobatic  troupe  of the People's  Republic  of  China  staged  performances  in commemoration of  the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar at the National  Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street this evening.

Present on the occasion were Minister for Culture U Win Sein and wife, Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, directors-general  of departments under the Minister of Culture,  officials,  Ambassador  of PRC Mr Liang Dong, ambassadors  and  staff  of  the  foreign  missions  in Yangon, guests and the public.

Minister for Culture U Win Sein and  Ambassador  of PRC Mr Liang Dong presented flower basket to the members of PRC art and acrobatic troupe.

(10) Minister for Health  tours  Mandalay  and Magway Divisions

YANGON, 7  June-Minister  for Health  Maj-Gen  Ket Sein inspected People's Hospital in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Division on 5 June.  The minister met staff of Ministry of Health and explained the  objectives  of Ministry of Health and tasks to be done.

Then,  Minister  Maj-Gen  Ket Sein and party  inspected People's  Hospital of Kai  Station in Pakokku  Township and fulfilled  the  requirements.  Minster  Maj-Gen Ket Sein  attended  ceremony  to plant a Bo-tree  from Bodh Gaya, at Hsugyipan Hill in Pakokku on 6 June.

The minister then  inspected  extension of new building and site chosen for the construction of Sangha Hospital at  People's  Hospital  in  Pakokku  District  and gave instructions  to officials.  Minister  Maj-Gen Ket Sein also inspected  construction of Nurses  Training School in Pakokku and gave instructions to officials on timely completion of the project.  The minister and party went to People's Hospital in NyaungU District and designated land for the  construction  of Special  Surgery Ward at the  hospital.  The minister and party then  arrived at University  of Primary  Health in Magway.  The minister attended to their needs.


(11) Voters  of  Chanayethazan  Township  unanimously submit petitions for dissolving pessimist NLD

YANGON, 7 June- The people from Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay  Division,  expressed no support for pessimist National League  for  Democracy  and  petitioned  for dissolving it at rallies in two venues on 30 April.

A total of 7,200  people  from 10  Wards  attended  the rally at Chanmyamandalar Sports Ground in Chanayethazan Township.

On behalf of  attendance's, U Maung Maung Aye expressed no  support  for  pessimist  NLD  and  petitioned for dissolving  it.  Altogether  ten representatives,  on behalf of local people,  presented  petitions signed by the people to member of Township  Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Than Aung.

A total of 7,000 people from 10 Wards  rallied at Basic Education High School No 19 in the township.

On behalf  of  attendance's,  U Shwe Tun  expressed  no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it.  Altogether ten representatives, on behalf of local people,  presented  petitions  signed by the  people to member  of  Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Tin Thaung.

The  ceremonies  ended with  chanting of the slogan Our Three Main National Causes.

There are 83,946 people, who can vote, in Chanayethazan Township.  The  number  of  people,  who  expressed  no support for NLD and signed the petitions for dissolving it, is 83,230 people or 99.15 per cent.


(12) Stipend  presented  for  families of Ministry of Religious Affairs

YANGON, 7 June-The  fourth  education  stipend and cash presentation ceremony  for  staff  and families  of Ministry  of  Religious  Affairs  was  held  at  Wizaya Mingala  Dhamma  Thabin on Kaba Aye.  Hill in  Mayangon Township this morning.  Minister for Religious  Affairs U Aung  Khin  made a  speech  on  the  occasion.  Then, Minister for Religious  Affairs U Aung Khin presented K 1,486,200  to Head of  Division  U Chit  Swe and  staff welfare.  The  ceremony ended  with  the concluding remarks by the minister.

(13) 46  Shwegu  Township  NLD  members  collectively resign of own accord

YANGON,  7  June-A  ceremony  to  collectively  present resignation letters of 46 National League for Democracy members of Shwegu  Township,  Kachin State, was held at the  meeting hall  of  Shwegu Township Peace  and Development Council office on 24 May 2000 afternoon.

Forty-six members of Shwegu Township NLD, Kachin State, of their own  accord,  resigned  by sending  letters of resignation  to the  party  concerned  and  then to the Shwegu Township  Multiparty  Democracy General Election Subcommission  on 24 May 2000 as they no longer  wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

On behalf of forty-six  members of Shwegu Township NLD, member U Aung Tint explained the purpose of resignation and presented the  resignation  letters to Secretary of Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Subcommission U Aye Ko.


(14) Illegal Drug possessor gets 5 Years

YANGON, 7 June-The Lashio  Township Court handed down a sentence of five years' imprisonment on an illegal drug possessor  on  23  February  1999.  Members  of  Lashio Township Police Force, acting on information,  searched the house of Kyaw Win, 32, son of U Mai Kham, of Lashio Township at 9.30 am on 9 January  1999 and found  0.001 kg of heroin in his ms  possession.  He was tried under Section  15/16(C) of  Narcotic  Drugs and  Psychotropic Substances Law  and sentenced to three years' imprisonment under Section 15  and  five years' imprisonment  under Section 16 (C) to serve concurrently.
