(1)State Peace and Development Council Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe's visit to Bangladesh postponed

YANGON 29 May-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a Press release stating that the goodwill visit  by Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime  Minister of the Union of Myanmar to the People's Republic of Bangladesh has been postponed for the  time being.


(2)  Malaysian Chief of Army Forces and wife conclude goodwill visit

YANGON, 28 May -Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces  General Dato' Sari Md Hashim Bin  Hussein and wife and delegation,  who arrived here on 24 May on a goodwill visit at the invitation of   Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy  Commander-in-Chief of Defence  Services Commander-in-Chief  (Army) General Maung Aye, left here by special flight this morning.

Before their departure, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and  Development Council Deputy  Commander-in-Chief of Defence  Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Ave and wife   Daw Mya Mya San cordially met Malaysian Chief of Army General  Dato Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein  and wife at Tatmadaw Guest  House on Inya Road at 9.45 am today.

Then General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San together with  General Dato' Seri Md Hashim  Bin Hussein and wife left for Yangon  International Airport by car. General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin   Hussein and wife and delegation left here by special flight at 10.30 am  today.

They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by General Maung  Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya  San, Secretary-3 of the State Peace and  Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and  wife  Daw Khin Cho Oo, members of the State Peace and Development  Council Commander-in-Chief  (Navy) Vice-Admiral Nyunt Thein,  Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than and Chairman of
Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of  Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Prime  Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General  Lt-Gen  Tin Hla and their wives and Defence Adviser at the Malaysian  Embassy Lt-Col Harun Bin Hitan.


(3) Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces and party visit Hlinethaya City of Industry

YANGON, 28 May- Visiting Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces General. Dato' Seri Md Hashim  Bin Hussein and party, accompanied by Director of Ordnance Services Brig-Gen Chit Than of the  Ministry of Defence and officials, visited Hlinethaya City of Industry this morning. In Kanaung Hall in  the City, Director-General U Arnt Kyaw of Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development
explained facts about the City with the use of video tapes and slides. Afterwards, the guests toured  Hlinethaya City of Industry.

(4)   PRC State Councillors Mr Ismail Amat to visit Myanmar

YANGON, 29 May-At the invitation of the Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council of  the Union of Myanmar, Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, the State Councillors of the People's Republic of China, Mr  Ismail Amat, will pay a goodwill visit to the Union of Myanmar in the near future.


(5)   Secretary-1 lays corner-stones for construction of Yadana Beikman Kyaung and Padauk Shwewa Kyaung in  Mayangon 

YANGON, 28 May-A ceremony to lay corner-stones for the construction of two-story Yadana Beikman  Kyaung and two-storey Padauk Shwewa Kyaung was held at the Kyaungtaiks on Bayintnaung Road,  Kyaukyaydwin Ward, Mayangon Township, this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace  and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

First, a ceremony to lay foundation for two-storey Yadana Beikmam Kyaungtaik donated by Dr Aung  Lwin and wife Daw Thet Sandar and family, was held at the Kyaungtaik at 6.45 am today.

Member of Myanmar Calendar Advisory Board U Kyaw read the stone plaque of Yadana Beikman  Kyaungtaik. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented a silver casket with nine precious gems to  Presiding Sayadaw of Yadana Beikman Kyaungtaik Monastic Education School Maha Saddhamma  Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Pavara and placed the casket at the centre of the foundation.

At the auspicious time, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, the ministers and the Vice-Mayor laid the  cornerstones. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt laid the stone pillar on the foundation. Then, Secretary-1  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, the ministers and the Vice-Mayor sprinkled scented water on the foundation.

After the ceremony, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt performed the ritual of golden and silver showers to  mark the success of the ceremony. Afterwards, a ceremony to lay foundation for two-story Padauk  Shwewa Kyaungtaik donated by Chairman of Kanbawza Bank Ltd U Aung Ko Win and wife and family,  was held at the Kyaungtaik on Bayintnaung Road, Kyaukyaydwin Ward, Mayangon Township, at 7.15 am today. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin

Nyunt presented a silver casket with nine precious gems to Presiding Sayadaw of Padauk Shwewa  Monastic Education School Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Pavara and placed the casket at  the centre of the foundation. After the ceremony, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt performed the ritual of golden and silver showers to  mark the success of the ceremony Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected construction of  Padauk Shwewa Monastic Education School. A total of 70 novices from border areas, seven national  race children are attending the monastic education school in Yadana Beikman Kyaungtaik.

Altogether 165 students are attending the primary course in Yadana Beikman Kyaungtaik. A total of 30  novices from border areas, over 100 national race children are attending the monastic education school  in Padauk Shwewa Kyaungtaik. Altogether 800 students are attending the primary course in Padauk  Shwewa Kyaungtaik.


(6)  Secretary-l inspects Maha Bandoola Bridge Project 

YANGON, 28 May-Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,  together with officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, arrived at the office of Maha Bandoola Bridge Construction Project in Pazundaung Township this afternoon.

Deputy Minister U Tint Swe and Deputy Superintending Engineer U Ohn Han reported on progress of  work in the building of approach structures on Pazundaung and Dawbon banks, construction of the  towers and installation of the iron framework and steel cables. Secretary of YCDC Col Myint Aung  reported progress of work in building six-lane roads on the banks of Pazundaung and Dawbon  Townships. The Secretary-1 gave instructions and inspected construction work. He left there at 4.25 pm.

(7) Myanmar health delegation arrives back after attending S3rd World Health Conference

YANGON, 28 May - Myanmar health delegation led by Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein attended  the 53rd World Health Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland, beginning 14 May.

On the afternoon of 14 May, Regional Director of SEARO Dr Uton Muchter Rafei held a meeting with  delegates of SEARO nations. Myanmar health delegation led by Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein  attended it. The 53rd World Health Conference commenced on the morning of 15 May. The plenary session of the assembly elected leader of Namibia delegation Dr Libertine Amathila the chairman of the assembly, Professor F Nazirovi of Uzebekistan, Mr NT Shanmugerm of India, Professor R Smallwood of  Australia, Dr MA Ai-Jaralian of Kuwait and Dr MA Gedeon of Haiti vice-chairmen.

The meeting of the committee (A) was held on 16 May, and Dr SM Ali of Bangladesh was elected as the  chairman of the committee (A). The meeting of the committee (B) was held on the afternoon of 17 May,  and Dr K Karam of Lebanon was elected as chairman.

"Major Health System Challenges" were discussed. Myanmar health delegation attended it, and  exchanged experiences with other delegations. At the plenary session, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket  Sein delivered an address and  accepted the prize.

The leader of Myanmar health delegation also met with health ministers of Nepal, Thailand and  Maldives and officials of UNAIDS under the UN, and discussed health matters. The minister also met  with Director-General of WHO Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland on the morning of 20 May and discussed  matters related to development of the health sector in Myanmar.

Myanmar health delegation also visited Nestle Research Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland on 22 May. On his return, the minister also met with Minister  of Health Mr Lim Hng Kiang in Singapore on 25 May, and  discussed medical cooperation and the sending of nurses to Singapore. The minister and the delegation  also visited International SOS (AEA) in Singapore. Leader of Myanmar health delegation Maj-Gen Ket  Sein and members Director-General of Health Planning Department Dr Kyi Soe, Director (Disease  Control) of Health Department Dr Ye Myint and Director (Foreign Relations) of Health Department Dr  Ohn Kyaw arrived back here by air yesterday evening.


(8) Minister inspects road construction works

YANGON, 28 May-Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs  Col Thein Nyunt, accompanied by Deputy Minister U Kyaw Tin inspected construction of  Hsatthwataw-Nyaung Hna Pin-Kyakansu road in Hmawby Township yesterday. Director-General Col  Myo Myint of Development Affairs Department and official's reported on progress of work. The road is  four miles and two furlongs longs and laetrile laying work for three miles and four-furlongs long has
finished. Then the Minister inspected Yangon-Bago Highway, No 3 Highway and Kyakansu-Kyainn-East Ngasu Taung village-tract road. The village road is nine miles and one furlong long. Ninety per cent of earth work and laetrile laying work for two miles has been finished.


(9) Commander inspects construction of bridges

YANGON, 28 May - Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council, Commander of  Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Thura Thiha Thura Sit Maung, accompanied by officials, inspected  construction of Ae Ae bridge, Kanyinchaung bridge and Nanparoke concrete bridge on 25 May. The
Commander gave instructions to officials . in Palaw Township. Commander Maj-Gen Thura Thiha Thura Sit Maung met District and Township level officials in Palaw Township. Commander Maj-Gen Thura  Thiha Thura Sit Maung attended to their needs of the officials.

(10)  Commander attends coord meeting of Bago Division, Districts, Townships

YANGON, 28 May-Bago Division Peace and Development Council held a coordination meeting with  chairmen of District and Township Peace and Development Councils and departments at Thiri Oktha  Hall on Oktha Myothit on 26 May morning.

Division, district and township level officials reported on tasks being carried out and matters related to  agriculture, economy, health, education, transport and crime reduction. Then, the Commander attended  to their needs and gave the concluding remarks.


(11) Deputy Minister inspects teak plantations in Taikkyi, Hlawga 

YANGON, 28 May- Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun arrived at Taikkyi Township Forest  Department yesterday morning. Staff Officer of Township Forest Department U Tin Thein reported to  the Deputy Minister on tasks of forest, arrangements for planting trees in rainy season and situation of  Magari special teak plantation with the use of the chars. The Deputy Minister gave necessary
instructions.   The Deputy Minister gave instruction on work and inspected the watershed teak  plantation.


(12)Drug trafficker sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment

YANGON, 28 May- Members of Tachilek Township Myanmar Police Force acting on information  searched the house of Nan Lone, 32, daughter of U Lone Kyine, Pakaw Village, Mongphone (B)

Village-track Tachilek Township, on 1 May 1998 and seized 2,000 stimulant tablets. She was tried under  Section 19(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law and sentenced to 12 years'  imprisonment on 26 February 1999 by Tachilek District Court.

(13) Voters of Patheingyi Township unanimously submit petitions for dissolving pessimist NLD

YANGON, 28 May-Voters from Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Division, expressed no support for  pessimist National League for Democracy and petitioned for dissolving NLD at rallies in Letkaung and  Ohnchaw village-tracts on 26 April.

A total of 4,850 people from 16 village-tracts rallied in Letkaung Village-tract. On behalf of attendance's,  U Khin Maung Tint of Letkaung Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for  dissolving it. Seven representatives of respective village-tracts, on behalf of attendance's, presented petitions signed by the people to Secretary of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Zaw Zhin.

A similar rally in Ohnchaw Village-tract was attended by 9,150 people from six village-tracts and wards.  On behalf of attendance's, U Hsay of Ohnchaw Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and  petitioned for dissolving it. Seveh representatives of respective village-tracts, on behalf of attendance's, presented petitions signed by the people to Chairman of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Than Myint.

The rallies ended with chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes". There are 62,189  people, who can vote, in Patheingyi Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for  NLD and signed the petitions for dissolving it, is 59,444 people or 95.59 per cent.


(14) 24 Kyauktan Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 28 May-Twenty four members resigned from the National League for Democracy of  Kyauktan Township, Yangon Division. Twenty four members of Kyauktan Township NLD, Yangon  Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Kyauktan Township  Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 15 May 2000 as  they no longer wished to Participate in party politics of NLD.

Under-20 Youth Judo Championship ends

YANGON, 28 May-The prize presentation ceremony for the Under-20 Youth Judo Championship organized by Myanmar Judo Federation was held at the judo training hall at the National Swimming Pool this morning.

Present on the occasion were members panel of patrons of Myanmar Judo Federation, President of MJF Director-General Col Hla Thaung Myint of Road Transport Administration Department and executives, officials of Sports and Physical Education Department, Vice-President of MJF Daw Kyu Kyu, Secretary U. Maung Maung Htwe and spectators.

After the final matches, member of Panel of Leading Patrons of Myanmar Women's Sports Federation and in-charge for judo event Daw Shwe Thet, Patron of MWSF and MJF Daw Khin Thein Mu, executive U Ba Hen and Secretary U Maung Maung Htwe presented prizes to winners in the women's 5257 kilos, the women's 48-52 kilos, the men's 45-50 kilos and the men's 50-55 kilos events.

Vice-President Daw Kyu Kyu presented best player awards to Maung Kyaw Swa Win of Industry-1 and Ma Moe Sanda Tun of Forestry. Then, President Co1 Hla Thaung Myint presented championship shields to Ministry of Forestry men's team and Ministry women's of Industry-1 team.

MKF President f greets Karatedo players

YANGON, 28 May- Myanmar- Karatedo Federation President's Cup Championship jointly organized by MKF and Maykha Group will be held at Aung San Gymnasium on 29 and 30 May. A ceremony to greet players and coaches from Karatedo clubs which will be participating in the Championship was held at Aung San Gymnasium at 1.30 pm today, attended by President of MKF Police Col Khin Maung Htun (Retired), General Secretary Staff Officer U Soe Win of Sports and Physical Education Department
executives, officials of Maykha Group, distinguished guests and players. President of MKF Police Col  Khin Maung Htun (Retired) extended greetings to the players.
