YANGON, 29 April- Myanmar Women's Entrepreneurs Association held its fifth meeting for 1999-2000 at International Business Centre on Pyay Road this evening, with an address by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Chairperson Thiha Thudhamms Theingi Daw Sein Sein extended greetings.

Master of ceremonies Secretary of MWEA Daw Nu Nu Yi read the report of the Association for 1999-' 2000. In the second session, the Secretary-1 delivered an address.

Member of Advisory Group retired professor Daw Yi Yi Myint assessed matters related to the association. Afterwards, well-wishers presented donations to the Association. Chairperson Daw Sein Sein accepted two set of computers and printers for MWEA donated by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, K 500,000 by Daw Myint Myint and Daw San Myint, on behalf of 13 members, and K 300,000 by MIS Co. Vice-Chairperson Daw Thet Yi accepted K 200,000 donated by Executive Committee member of MWEA Daw After the meeting, the dinner was served to guests and those present at the meeting.


(2)  Secretary-1 and family donate exercise books and stationery  for Dhammacariya Course No 2

YANGON, 29 April-Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, arrived at Aungmyay Bawdi Yeiktha of Alodawpyi Kyaungtaik on Tamwaylay Pinshwenyaung Street in Tamway Township this afternoon. Nyunt and party were welcomed by the deputy ministers, the vice-mayor, the deputy commander, heads of department and officials.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party paid obeisance to Alodawpyi Sayadaw Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Pariyatti Sasanahitadhara Bhaddanta Arivavamsa at Yadana Thukha Kyaungsaung of Alodawpyi Kyaungtaik. Then, Chairman of Olympic Co Ltd Vice Chairman of Asia Wealth Bank U Aik Tun presented K 26.8 million to Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt for construction of Bawdi Thukha three-storey building at Alodawpyi Kyaungtaik.

Well-wishers Secretary-1 Lt Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and family presented exercise books and stationery to 769 members of the Sangha and 239 nuns who are attending the Dhammacariya Course No 2. Then, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented soft drink to members of the Sangha and nuns. The Dhammaecariya Course No 2 is being conducted from 28 April to 26 June.

(3)  Multimedia CD-ROM of Student's English-English/Myanmar Dictionary launched

YANGON, 29 April -The launching and demonstration of Multimedia CD-ROM of Student's English -English/Myanmar Dictionary, arranged by the Ministry of Commerce and Myanmar Inforithm Ltd, took place at the International Business Center on Pyay Road this morning.

Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony. Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone said the dictionary was systematically compiled by accomplished translators with the assistance of two ministries, so it has grown in widespread popularity. It also breaks new ground in the history of dictionary making in Myanmar, and altogether 80,000 copies were sold out. In June 1999, another 20,000 copies went on sale.

English-Myanmar Dictionaries still in use in Myanmar, it is the most up-to Date and modern one, so Myanmar Inforithm Ltd offered to distribute the dictionary CD-ROM with the use of multimedia technology. Therefore, the Ministry of Commerce formed a committee for launching the dictionary CD-ROM.

The CD-ROM contains pictures, cross references and pronunciation and Myanmar alphabet keys, so it is an easy-to-use dictionary CD-ROM. The CD-ROM will sell at a reasonable price. The dictionary always needs updating. The present one is Version 1, and arrangements are being made to continue to produce Version 11. In conclusion, the minister said that the Ministry of Commerce prides itself on being able to launch Student's English-English/Myanmar Dictionary and CD-ROM.

Managing Director of Myanmar Inforithm Ltd U Chit Tun Pe demonstrated how to use CD-ROM, and spoke of words of thanks. Managing Director U Chit Tun Pe presented 300 Dictionary Multimedia CD-ROMs for the Ministry of Commerce to Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and 100 CD-ROMs for the Ministry of Education to Minister for Education U Than Aung.


(4) Secretary l attends cash donation ceremony for construction of Shweminwun Sasanayeiktha  (Bago)

YANGON, 29 April - The first cash donation ceremony for the construction of Shweminwun Sasanayeiktha (Bago) was held at Shweminwun Sasanayeiktha on Thathanayeiktha Street in Bahan Township at 10.45 am today, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party paid obeisance to Maha Kammathanacariya Bhaddanta Sobhana at Pantint Yadanasankyaung of Shweminwun Sasanayeiktha.

Officials reported to Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt on the work for construction of Shweminwun Sasanayeiktha (Bago).

Afterwards, the cash donation ceremony for the construction of Shweminwun Sasanayeiktha (Bago) was held at Shweminwun Maha Dhammabeikman of the Shweminwun Sasanayeikha.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party presented offertories to members of the Sangha. Well-wishers presented K 07.525 million for the construction of Shweminwun Sasanayeiktha (Bago). After the ceremony Secretary-1 Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt performed the ritual of golden and silver shower to mark the success of cash donation ceremony.

(5)  Minister for Industry-2 receives Indian Ambassador

YANGON, 29 April-Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin received Indian Ambassador to the Union of Myanmar Mr Shyam Saran at his office yesterday evening. They cordially discussed bilateral cooperation in economics and industry. Also present at the call were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin and officials.


(6)  Minister for CPI meets postal service personnel

YANGON, 29 April-Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin met postal service personnel of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications at Telecommunication and Postal Training Centre in Pazundaung Township this morning.The minister said MPT is providing services for the people through three sectors related to postal service, telegraphs and telephone, and there are altogether 1,275 post offices in various parts of the country inducing border areas with the staff of 7,505 employees.

The minister called for modernization of postal services in cooperation with UPU and implementation of multi-year Integrated Project in collaboration with international and regional organizations.


(7)  Dinner hosted to mark wings presentation for Air Force officers of Pilot Course No 63

YANGON, 29 April—A dinner to mark the wings presentation for Air Force officers of Pilot Course No 63 was held at Flying Training School in Shande, Meiktila, yesterday evening. Member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in- Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than attended the dinner and cordially greeted newly- graduated pilots. Commander-in -Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than and wife Daw Khin Swe Nyunt presented cash prizes and baskets of honour to them.

(8)  Commander meet graduates of UDNR teachership courses No 1- 31

YANGON, 29 April- Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of Northern Command Maj-Gen Kyaw Win met teachers who graduated from teachership course No 1-31 of University Development of National Races at the Town Hall of Myitkyina on 24 April.

Secretary of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myint Thein and members, members of District and Township Peace and Development Councils, Kachin State Education Officer U Hla Ngwe and officials and 246 teachers. Then, the teachers from Khonglanphu, Nagmon and Mogaung regions reported on regional development efforts and requirements to the Commander. The Commander attended to their needs. The ceremony ended with concluding remarks by the Commander.


(9)  Delegates arrive to attend ASEAN Economic Ministers' Retreat

YANGON, 29 April- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce of Thailand Dr Supachai Panitchpakdi and wife, two delegation members led by General Secretary of the ASEAN Secretariat Mr Rodolfo C Severino Jr, five delegation members led by Acting Representative of AMEICC, Secretariat, JODC Bangkok Mr Hidehiro Yokoo, six delegation members from Brunei Datussalam, six advance delegation members from Singapore and three delegation members from the Philippines arrived here by air this morning to attend ASEAN Economic Minister. Retreat and the Meeting of the ASEAN Economic Ministers with the Economic Ministers from the People's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea on East Asia Cooperation to be held here on 1 and 2 May.

They were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel, Deputy Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Brig-Gen Zaw Tun, officials from embassies of Brunei Darussalam, Singapore and Thailand and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development.


(10)  Myanmar youth golfers leave for India

YANGON, 29April-Chairman of the Committee for Winning Victory in International Sports Competitions Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay saw off Myanmar youth golf team which will take part in the 22nd Asia Pacific Junior Golf Championship in India, at Yangon International Airport this morning.

(11)  Talks on Mothers and Children's Day held

YANGON, 29 April - Talks on Mothers' and Children's Day which falls on 30 April sponsored by Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association was held of MMCWA, at the corner of Thanthuma Road and Parami Road, S/Okkalapa Township at 9 am today.

Chairperson of MMWCA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe made an opening address. Then, Daw Saw Mon Nyin and Dr Khin Maung Lwin gave lectures on facts about mothers and children, the important role of children and nurturing them.Later, Vice-Chairperson of MWCA Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe presented gifts to the guest speakers.


(12) Myatmikhin Literary Awards presentation ceremony held

YANGON, 29 April- Myatmikhin Wunthanu Rekkhita Group held the fifth Myatmikhin Literary Award presentation ceremony at the National Museum of Department of Cultural Institute on Pyay Road this morning. Member of Panel of Patrons of Myatmikhin Wunthanu Rekkhita Group Saya Maung Htin gave a speech. Chairman of Myatmikhin Literary Award Committee Dr Myo Thant Tin submitted reports of the Committee .

Afterwards, officials presented first, second and third prizes to Zin Min Htet, Maung Soe Nway (Thonze) and Amaya (IM-1) respectively. Then, Minister U Win Sein presented the Award to writer Maw Maw Thin for her story chosen by the Patron of the committee as best short story. Zin Min Htet, on behalf of all winners, spoke words of thanks.

(13)  1.28 kilos of heroin from three foreigners seized in Muse

YANGON, 29 April-A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, Anti-Drug Squad and Customs Department, acting on information, searched buses at Namhoi Village in Muse Township on 21 April.

In searching a bus with number Tha/6071, which left Kyukok-Pangsaing for Muse, and three foreigner passengers Lan Shin Hway, Phon Sein Yon and Yon Htin Chant on board the team members seized 73 blocks of heroin weighing 0.73 kilos on Lan Shin Hway.

According to their confession, Phon Sein Yon and Yon Htin Chant carried heroin blocks swallowed in their stomachs. At Muse Township Hospital, the authorities got Phon Sein Yon and Yon Thin Chant checked. The authorities found 19 blocks of heroin weighing 0.19 kilos in the abdomen of Phon Sein Yon and 36 blocks weighing 0.36 kilos in Yon Htin Chant. The seized heroin blocks were packed as one-inch block with thin plastic and tapes. The combined team seized 128 blocks of heroin weighing 1.28 kilos, 335 yuans, one cellular phone used in the other country, citizenship cards and travel documents used in border areas from them. Action is being taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances law.


(14) Ex-Pyithu Hluttaw representative-elect of NLD explains why he left NLD

YANGON, 29 April— I Ex-representative-elect of NLD U Hsan Myint from Laymyetna Township Constituency explained why he left NLD at Aingthabyu Village in Laymyethna Town- t ship on S April morning.

U Hsan Myint resigned as NLD's Pyithu Hluttaw representative-elect of Laymyethna Township Constituency, and left NLD, which is holding negative view, having a negative way of thinking and doing misdeeds. Present on the occasion were about 2000 local people. The ceremony was pre sided over by organizer (resigned) U Ko Ko Tin of Ward 3, Laymyethna Township, and members of the Panel of Chairmen were township organizer (resigned) U Hla Myint of Kanyinthoung
Village-tract, and township NLD organizer (resigned) U Kyi of Aingthabyu Village-tract.

Village organizer (resigned) U Maung Htay of Thakhutchaung Village-tract acted as master of ceremonies with ward/village organizer (resigned) U Soe Than as joint MC. After the chairman's speech, U Hsan Myint gave his explanation.

(15)  27 KhinU NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 29 April-Twenty-seven members resigned from the National League for Democracy of KhinU Township, Sagaing Division. Twenty-seven members of KhinU Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to KhinU Township Multiparty Democracy General election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 18 January 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
