(1) Secretary-1 attends concluding ceremony of Summer Special Swimming Course of YSC

YANGON, 27 April -Summer Special Swimming Course NO 1/2000 of Yangon Swimming Club concluded at national Swimming Pool on U Wisara Road this morning. Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint said in striving to improve the sports standard, the Government is implementing the clear-cut objective "Myanmar Sports the World to Conquer"; the Government and the people are giving encouragement with full nationalistic spirit to accomplish this goal.  In conclusion, the minister urged trainees who completed the course, to continue to take swimming exercises and to uplift the sports stand and  of the nation. Then, the Secretary- 1 presented certificates to trainees and awards to athletes who won prizes in inter national swimming contests.  The Secretary-l also accepted K 4.5 million donated for Myanmar Olympic Committee by Chairman of Tet Kham Entertainment City U Aik Haw and K 500,000 for YSC by Managing Director U Kyaw Shein. Vice-Chairperson YSC Dr Daw Tin Hnin Thu spoke words of thanks.  After the ceremony, Secretary-1 observed swimming demonstration selected swimmers and the who completed the summer special swimming course.


(2)  Myanmar Rice Millers Association holds annual meeting

YANGON, 27 April-The eleventh annual meeting of Myanmar Rice Millers Association was held at Yuzana Hotel, this afternoon, attended by Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone. First, Chairman U Win Myint of MRMA made an opening speech. Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan delivered speeches.  The meeting ended with concluding remarks by Chairman U Win Myint. After the meeting, the first meeting of the central executive committee was held.


(3)  Over 6 million under-5 children given OPV in five consecutive years' activities of NIDs

YANGON, 27 April- In Myanmar, since 1996, over six million under-S children have been given oral polio vaccine in five consecutive years' activities of observing NIDs, national immunizations days, and 95 per cent of the total number of children had been given the vaccine yearly, said Minister for Health Maj- Gen Ket Sein in his address given at the prize presentation ceremony of the Photo Competition on NlDs held at International Business Centre this morning.  While the countries in the world are making endeavours to eradicate polio, Myanmar, together with her neighbors Nepal, India Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Thailand and Yunnan Province of China, observed NIDs activities at the same time, he said. To achieve successes in carrying out the tasks to give the children OPV on NIDs, the highest leadership was given by the Government as well as the supervision provided by the Ministry of Health, he said. Minister Maj- Gen Ket Sein presented first prize to U Hsan Oo ( Tainlwa)of Mandalay , second prize to U Maung Win Ko ( Sun Star ) and third prize to U Kyaw Min  (Ko Hsoe-Ayardaw). Officials then presented five consolation prize and 12 prizes honour to winners and gifts to judges. A total of 98 photographers took part in the competition with 212 entries.

(4) Ministers attend ceremony to lay cornerstone for construction of Cold Storage (500-ton) in Hlinethaya

YANGON, 27 April -A ceremony to lay cornerstones for the construction of Cold Storage (500-ton) of Minzani Co Ltd was held in the compound of the factory No 4 kha/1 in Hlinethaya City of Industry, Hlinethaya Township this morning.  Present were Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin, and officials and entrepreneurs. Member of State Calendar Advisory Committee U Kyaw read the stone inscription. Then, officials performed the ritual of golden and silver shower to mark the success of ceremony.


(5)  Fourth Myanmar Thailand Cross Border Meeting on Narcotics Law Enforcement Cooperation held in Kengtung

YANGON, 27 April- The Fourth Myanmar-Thailand Cross Border Meeting on Narcotics Law Enforcement Cooperation was held at the New Kengtung Hotel in Kengtung, Shan State (East), on 24 and 25 April.  The meeting at grassroots level was held on 24 April and the senior officer level meeting on 25 April. The meeting was attended by Myanmar delegation led by Secretary of Myanmar Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Col Soe Win, Thai delegation led by Secretary-General of Narcotics Control Board of Thailand Mr Sorasit Sangprasert, Adviser Mr Yngve Danling of Bangkok-based office of United Nations International Drug Control Programme (UNDCP).  The meeting focused on cooperation in narcotic drug control, difficulties and future tasks, and exchanged information about narcotic drugs. The senior officers of both countries led by Director-General of MPF Police Maj-Gen Soe Win also toured Mongla Narcotic Drug Free Zone of Special Region-4.


(6) Minister meet Head of Delegation of European Commission

YANGON, 27 April-Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha met Head of Delegation of European Commission, European Union, Mr Michle Caillouet who had completed his tour of duty, at his office at 4 pm today. Also present was Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Zaw Tun of the Ministry.


(7)  Chief Justice receives Ambassador of Canada

YANGON, 27 April-Chief Justice U Aung Toe received Ambassador of Canada to the Union of Myanmar Mr Bernard Giroux whose office is based in Bangkok. at his office at 3 pm today. Also present at the call were Director-General of the Supreme Court U Tin Aye and Head of Office U Win Myint Oo.

(8)  CEC member meets executives of Township USDAs in Bago Division

YANGON, 27 April-Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint met secretaries and executives of Bago Division (East) and Yedashay Township USDAs and authorities of Yedashay Township at the office of Yedashay Township USDA on 23 April afternoon.  On 24 April morning, the minister, together with Commander of Southern Command Maj-Gen Tin Aye, attended the opening ceremony of Defence Services (Air) Basic Aviation Course 1/2000 for New Generation Youth held at the Kaytumadi Hall in Taungoo in conjunction with the concluding ceremony of Basic Accountancy Course No 3. The minister then proceeded to Kywepwe, Oktwin Township, where he attended the opening ceremony of Basic Military Training Course. The CEC Member also attended the ceremony to open music course at Thirihanta Hall in Bago with the arrangement of Bago Township USDA and presented by course instructors.


(9)  Myanmar Red Cross delegates leave for Australia

YANGON, 26 April-At the invitation of the Red Cross Society of Australia, administrative staff of Myanmar Red Cross Society Naw Aye Aye Thwin and Sergeant of Red Cross Society of Aungmye Thazan Township, Mandalay Division Nan May The Aye left for Melbourne, Australia by air yesterday evening to attend the Year 2000 International Red Cross Society meeting.


(10)  Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs holds coordination meeting

YANGON, 27 April- Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs held its 2/2000 coordination meeting at Social Welfare Department on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this morning.  Professor Daw Maj May Yi made an opening address. Secretary of MNWCWA Director-General of Social Welfare Department U Sit Myaing reported to the meeting on the work of the committee.  The meeting also discussed publication of annual magazine, planting of trees, producing a feature on women's education directed by U Thu Kha taping of the story, "Listen to me my daughter" by Mann Khin Khin and presenting entertainment programmes. The meeting ended with concluding remarks by the vice-chairperson Daw May May Yi.

(11)  Medicines, medical equipment for 2MH

YANGON, 27 April- Ambassador Lt-Col Than Lwin (Retd) and wife Daw Mya Mya Khin and family donated medicines and medical equipment work K 300,000 to No 2 Military Hospital (500 bed) for the patients warded at the hospital at 9 am today.


(12)  34 gms of heroin seized in Htaukkyant

YANGON, 27 April-A combined team comprising local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, while waiting near the toll gate of Htaukkyant, Mingaladon Township, arrested Ye Htut Aung, son of U Khin Maung Win, No 232, between 86th Street and Seinpan Street, Pyigyi Tagun Township, Mandalay Division, Maung Maung, son of U Aik Yi, Hsal6 Ward, Mandalay Myothit and Yan Naing (a) Pauk Pauk, son of U Khin Maung Win, No 296, Block 29, Nwethagi Street, Shwepyitha Township, together with 34 gms of heroin in two soap boxes.  Action is being taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.


(13) 312 drug-related cases exposed in March

YANGON, 27 April- The Tatmadaw, the Myanmar Police Force and the Customs Department could exposed 312 drug-related cases in March.  The authorities seized 90.944 kilos of opium in 35 cases, 6.0821 kilos of heroin in 114 cases, 0.1962 kilo of morphine in one case, 1.0804 kilos of low-grade opium in 12 cases, 18.7517 kilos of marijuana in 58 cases, 13.7 liters of Phensedyl in four cases, 3,312,725 stimulant tablets in 36 cases, 0.01 kilo of stimulant powder in one case, 213.429 kilos of Ephedrine in five cases, 3.9 Liters of cough syrup in two cases, 385.3717 liters of acid in one case, 100 kilos of chemicals powder, 0.375 kilo of opium paper in two cases and 41 cases for failure to register.  Seizures made by the Tatmadaw regiments and units were 12.8575 kilos of opium, 0.2Y,39 kilo of heroin, 12.2470 kilos of marijuana, 1,988,346 stimulant tablets and 97 kilos of Ephedrine.  The Myanmar Police Force seized 78.8865 kilos of opium in 35 cases, 5.7982 kilos of heroin, 0.1962 kilo of morphine in one case, 1.0804 kilos of low-grade opium in 12 cases, 6.5047 kilos of marijuana in 58 cases, 13.07 liters of Phensedyl in four cases, 1,324,379 stimulant tablets in 36 cases, 0.01 kilo in stimulant powder in one case, 116.429 kilos of Ephedrine in five cases, 3.9 liters of cough syrup in two cases, 385.3717 liters of acid in one case, 100 kilos of chemicals powder, 0.375 kilo of opium paper in two cases and 41 cases for failure to register.  Seizures made by the Tatmadaw and the Myanmar Police Force were 63.1647 kilos of opium in 18 cases, 5.6008 kilos of heroin in 17 cases, 8.3 liters of Phensedyl in two cases, 4.2659 kilos of marijuana in four cases, 1,214,764 stimulant tablets in 18 cases and 12.7 kilos of Ephedrine in one case. Action was taken against 439 persons, 364 men and 75 women involved in 312 cases.

(14) People of Kyaukoadaung Township submit petitions expressing no support for and dissolving NLD

YANGON, 27 April-The people from Kyaukpadaung Township, expressed no support for National League for Democracy and petitioned for dissolving NLD at rallies held in Bemya, Amyaungkan, Yaysone, Tangakan, Hinkhwetai, Thebuddha, Thayettaw, Hson-kone, Daungle, Popa, Simyint, Letpanpya and Khapaungkone village-tracts on 31 Much.

A total of 10,502 people from Bemya, Indaing, Bingwa, Hsintaingkan, Leyataung, Sipauhkan, Hsintatkyin, Dawa, Zalintaung and Ywalu villages and 12 Wards of Kyaukpadaung attended the rally in Bemya Village-tract.

On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Kyauk Doe of Peinnedaw Village expressed no support for NLD and petitioned for dissolving it.  Representatives of village-tracts presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Myint Thaung. The ceremony ended with the chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes".  Altogether 3,383 people from three village-tracts attended the rally in Amyaungkan Village-tract.  On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Tun Kyaing of Amyaungkan Village expressed no support for NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Three representatives, on behalf of people from the village-tracts, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Myint Thaung. The ceremony ended with the chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes".  Similarly, 4,000 people from five village-tracts attended the rally in Yaysone Village-tract. On behalf of people, farmer U Kyaw Lwin Shwe of Yaysone Village expressed no support for NLD and petitioned for dissolving it.  Five representatives, on behalf of attendance's, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Tin Hla. Likewise, 3,220 people from six village-tracts attended the rally in Tangakan Village tract.  The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes".  Altogether 12,323 people from nine village-tracts attended the rally in Kinkhwetai Village-tract. On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Tun Aung Kyaw of Thitsatpin Village expressed no support for NLD and. petitioned for dissolving it. Nine representatives from the village-tracts, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Tin Htoo.

The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes". A total of 9,217 people from twelve village-tracts attended the rally in Thebuddha Village-tract. On behalf of the people, farmer U Aung Ngwe of Inndaw Village expressed no support for NLD and petitioned for dissolving it.  Representatives, on behalf of attendance's from the village-tracts, presented petitions signed by the people to Secretary of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Myint Thein. The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes".

Similarly, 9,916 people from seven villages attended the rally in Thayettaw Village-tract.  On behalf of attendance's, farmer U San Hlaing of Min Khaung (South) Village expressed no support for NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Seven representatives, on behalf of people from the village-tracts, presented petitions signed by the people to Secretary of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Myint Thein. The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes". A total of 5,200 people from eleven Village-tracts attended the rally in Hsonkone Village-tract.

On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Nyi Sein of Hsonkone Village expressed no support for NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Representatives, on behalf of people from eleven Villagetract, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Myo Myint.  The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes". Likewise, 4,883 people from five village-tracts attended the rally in Daungle Village-tract. On behalf of attendance's, U Kyaw Kyaw of Daungle Village-tract expressed no support for NLD and petitioned for dissolving it.  Five representatives, on behalf of attendance's, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Myo Myint. The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes".  A total of 7,015 people from eight village-tracts attended the rally in Popa Village-tract. On behalf of attendance's, U Win Shwe of Popa Village expressed no support for NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Eight representatives, on behalf of attendance's, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Myo Myint.

The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes". Likewise, 3,553 people from eight village-tracts attended the rally in Sinmyint Village-tract. On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Maung Shwe of Sinmyint Village-tract expressed no support for NLD and petitioned for dissolving it.  Eight representatives, on behalf of attendance's, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Tin Nyunt.  The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes".  A total of 5,718 people from twelve village-tracts attended the rally in Letpanpya Village-tract. On behalf of attendance's, U Khin Maung Sein of Letpanpya Village expressed no support for NLD and petitioned for dissolving it.  Twelve representatives, on behalf of attendance's, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Tin Nyunt. Likewise, 5,920 people from eleven village-tracts attended the rally in Khapaungkone Village-tract.  On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Kyan Thein of Khapaungkone Village expressed no support for NLD and petitioned for dissolving it.  Representatives, on behalf of attendance's, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Tin Nyunt. The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan "Our Three Main National Causes".  There are 169,811 people, who can vote, in Kyaukpadaung Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for NLD and signed the petitions for dissolving it, is 149,461 people or 88.01 per cent.


(15)  Myanmar delegation leaves for Bangkok

YANGON, 27 April-A ten-member delegation led by central executive committee member U Than Tun (Gangawshwepyi) of Anti narcotic Association (Myanmar) left here yesterday by air for Bangkok, Thailand to attend the tenth workshop of IFNGO ASEAN NGOs to be held form 27 to 29 April.

(16)  8 Kyimyindine NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 27 April-Eight members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Kyimyindine Township, Yangon Division.  Eight members of Kyimyindine Township NLD, Yangon Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Kyimyindine Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 25 April 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
