(1) Secretary-1 inspects All Myanmar Golden Jubilee Photo Exhibition

YANGON, 24 April - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt  inspected All Myanmar Golden Jubilee Photo Exhibition in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of  Myanmar Photographic Society at the Tatmadaw Convention Center this evening. The Secretary-1 and  party inspected prize winning photos in the invitational friendly photo competition on art, culture and
traditions of ASEAN member nations and those in All Myanmar Photo competition commemorating the 50th Anniversary of MPS, artistic works of the photographers, rare photos and booths where cameras  and accessories were sold. They left the Exhibition Centre at 4. 15 pm.


(2) Minister for Industry-l meets visitors

YANGON, 24 April-Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung met Executive Director Mr Jacque Valenza who is in-charge of Asian operations of Ingerop (France) Co of France and party at his office at noon today.

Managing Director Mr Michael John Blakeway of Delta Switchgear Sdn Bhd (Asia-Pacific) of England, accompanied by President Mr Wallace Nothon Tillery of South East Asian Development Inc of the United States, called on the minister in the afternoon.

Mr Wallace Nothon Tillery reported on insulators produced by MEM Co Ltd of England and Innovative Technology Inc of the US. Also present were Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Brig-Gen Kyaw Win and officials.


(3) Minister for Finance and Revenue meets Chairman of Nippon Koei Co

YANGON, 24 April- Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein met Chairman Mr Toshinori Churei of Nippon Koei Co of Japan and party at his office this afternoon. Also present was Governor of Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung.

(4) Minister for Home Affairs meets Ambassador of Singapore

YANGON, 24 April-Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing met Singapore Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Simon De Cruz at his office at the corner of Saya San Road and No 1 Sethmu Road at 3 pm today. Also present were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung and officials.


(5) Minister receives Head of UNESCO Consultant Mission

YANGON, 24 April- Minister for Culture U Win Sein received-Director for Asia-Pacific Region of UNESCO World Culture Heritage Department Head of UNESCO Consultant Mission Mrs Minja Yang who called at his office at 11 am today. Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister U Soe Nyunt, directors general of departments under the, ministry and officials.


(6) Deputy Minister meets Japanese visitors

YANGON, 24 April- Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun met Assistant General Manager Mr Takashi Shimahara of Japan Sumitomo Bank Yangon Representative Office and party at minister's office at 4 pm today. Also present on the occasion was Governor of Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung.

(7) Minister receives Ambassadors of Bangladesh, Singapore

YANGON, 24 April- Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa received Ambassador of Bangladesh Mr Ahmed Rahim at his office at 10 am today. Similarly, the Minister met Ambassador of Singapore Mr Simon Tensing de Cruz at 11 am. They discussed bilateral cooperation matters.


(8) Minister inspects construction of Moemakha sluice gate in Twantay

YANGON, 24 April-Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, accompanied by acting Director-General of Irrigation Department U Kyaw Sa Win and directors, inspected construction of Moemakha sluice gate in Twantaywa Village in Twantay Township this morning.

The minister and party then inspected the construction site. The Moemakha sluice gate prevents farmlands of Nyaungdonkyun from floods and rain water and it can irrigate for cultivation of summer paddy. The sluice gate will supply water to 40,000 acres of land in Nyaungdonkyun and Shwemayin region. The minister also inspected transport of silt for better drainage at Mezali sluice gate in Nyaungdon Township.


(9) Workshop on Supervising and Assessing Literacy and Continuing Education opened

YANGON, 24 April- The Workshop on Supervising and Assessing Literacy and Continuing Education was opened at the meeting hall of Myanmar Literacy Resource Centre in the compound of Myanmar Educational Research Bureau this morning, attended by Minister for Education U Than Aung.

Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister U Myo Nyunt, experts of 1 UNESCO_ PROAP directors-general and chairmen of departments and boards, the head of office of the Ministry of Education, advisers, rectors, Chairman of MLRC Administrative Committee U Than Oo and members, members of Work Committee for Informal Education for All Programme, resident representatives of UN agencies, guests and delegates. Chairman of Myanmar UNESCO National Commission Minister for
Education U Than Aung delivered an opening address. Then, expert of UNESCO-PROAP Ms Darunee Riewpituk spoke on the occasion.

(10) Opening of courses of new generation marine youth of Tatmadaw (Navy)

YANGON, 24 April -A ceremony to open Basic Training Course No 1/2000 and Advanced Training Course No 1/2000 for new generation marine youth (Sittway Camp) of Tatmadaw (Navy) co-sponsored by Union Solidarity and Development Association (Central) and Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) was held at the Rakhine State USDA Office this morning.

The commander and commander of the Naval Region Command Headquarters made speeches on the occasion. The five-week course are being attended by 65 trainees-50 for the basic course and 15 for the advanced course.


(11) Aviation Courses for New Generation Air Youth opened in Mingaladon, Meiktila

YANGON, 24 April-The Aviation Course for New Generation Air Youth jointly organized by the Union Solidarity and Development Association (Central) and Commander-in-Chief (Air)'s Office was opened at Aung San Thuriya Hla Thaung Hall of Basic Education High School No2 in Mingaladon ship this morning.

Altogether 50 trainees will attend the five-week The five-week course will be attended by 50 trainees. The Workshop will be held up to 30 April.


(12) Five courses of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications opened

YANGON, 24 April-Basic digital electronic, personal computer for office application, subscriber line construction, messenger refresher and IPO courses opened at Communications and Postal Training Centre of Myanma Posts and  Telecommunications this morning with an address by Minister for Communications. Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin.

The courses are being conducted for enhancement of qualifications of service personnel and skilfully discharging their duties, he said.

(13) Myanmar health delegation leaves for Indonesia

YANGON, 24 April-A Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo left here by air this morning to attend the 5th Meeting for ASEAN Health Ministers and the High-ranking Officials Meeting to be held in Jogjakarta, Indonesia, from 25 to 29 April.


(14) Mandalay women's team, Yangon men's team win first in ISD Badminton Tournament

YANGON, 24 April- Chairman of Myanmar 01ympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint attended the prize presentation ceremony for the 32nd Inter-State/Division Age-wise Badminton Tournament this afternoon and presented prizes to the winners.

Then, President U Kyi Nyunt of MBF and Director U Maung Win of SPED presented prizes to the winners. Later, Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint presented championship shields to Mandalay Division women's team and Yangon Division men's team, and best player awards to Ma Nayza Hlaing of Shan State (South) and Maung Pyi Kyaw of Yangon Division.


(15) National Sports Administration Course opened

YANGON, 24 April- A ceremony to open National Sports Administration Course co-organized by International Olympic Committee and Myanmar Olympic Committee was held at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna this morning. First, Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint gave an opening speech. Altogether 30 trainees will attend the course which will last till 28 April.

Afterwards, the Minister attended the opening ceremony of women's aerobic basic, advanced courses, coach and referee course 1/2000 at the building in Myanmars Women's Sports Federation at the National Swimming-pool on U Wisara Road and gave an opening speech. A total of 54 trainees from States and Divisions, departments, universities and colleges will attend the four day course.

(16) Disabled Tatmadawmen take vacation at Ngapali Beach

YANGON, 24 April-Eighty-eight disabled Tatmadawmen who had made sacrifices for the national cause left here for Ngapali Beach in Thandwe Township this morning.

Offering vacations for Tatmadawmen who had ; sacrificed their limbs in shouldering national defence duties at the risk of their life is one of the programmes in honoring them by the State. The disabled Tatmadawmen were receiving medical treatment at Defence Services Orthopedic and Reconstructive Surgery Hospital in Mingaladon, Yangon Division.


(17) Upgrading of Myitkyina-Sumprabum-Putao Road in progress

YANGON, 24 April-Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of Northern Commander Maj Gen Kyaw Win inspected upgrading of Myitkyina-Sumprabum-Putao Road on 18 April.

Accompanied by Tactical Operations Commander Col Han Myint and departmental officials, Commander Maj-Gen Kyaw Win visited Tiyanzwet and Hsutkha villages.

Specialist physicians who accompanied the commander treated the patients and conducted health services in the villages.

After looking into the requirements of the physicians, the commander cordially met with the villagers and presented gifts to them. The commander also fulfilled the requirements of the local people. In the evening, the commander and party arrived at Maitaung village in Sumprabum Township and inspected upgrading of the Sumprabum-Putao section of Myitkyina-Sumprabum-Putao Road. The next day, the commander inspected the Township People's Hospital in Sumprabum. He also coordinated
arrangements to provide assistance to the health care services of the hospital. Afterwards, the commander supplicated on religious matters.


(18) Cornerstone of multi-purpose hall of Myanmar International Centre laid

YANGON, 24 April- A ceremony to lay cornerstone of multi-purpose hall of Myanmar International Centre to be built by Yangon City Development Committee was held at Mingala Pandal on the plot on Min Dhamma Road in Mayangon Township this morning.

It was attended by Chairman of YCDC Yangon Mayor U Ko Lay, Vice Mayor U Thein Zaw, officials and guests. The mayor and officials then laid the foundation and stone inscription and they sprinkled scented water on the foundation. The mayor and the vice-mayor performed rituals of golden and silver showers. The 208X208 feet multipurpose hall includes spacious reception hall and stage, meeting rooms,
beauty parlours, fitness centres, dressing-room and restaurant .

(19) 28 Ngaputaw Township NLD members resigned of own accord

YANGON, 24 April-Twenty eight members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Ngaputaw Township, Ayeyawady Division. Twenty eight members of Ngaputaw Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Ngaputaw Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Office and the party concerned on 5 August 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
