According to the guidance of the Head of State, continuous feasible studies are being made to tap water  resources and underground resources for the development of the western section of Bago Division. In  the western section of Bago Division, Wegyi Darn, Taungnyo Dam, Taungnawin Dam, Myauknawin Dam, Nyaungkaing Dam, Shwetaung Dam and Mataungta Dam have already been built in addition to  the present Kangyigon Dam.

Bago Division produces rice and paddy most for the country. Now that cultivation of pulses and beans  and sugarcane has been extended year after year, it is becoming a division producing pulses and beans  and sugarcane. In the division, cotton is also being grown to some extent.

In short, Bago Division mainly produces four kinds of crops for the nation, and with regard to
agriculture, reliance can be placed on that division.

As there are water resources in abundance in Bago Division, the Government is building dams and
embankments in Bago Division for the development of the agriculture sector, the greening of the region  and availability of water

After the Tatmadaw Government assumed duties of State, a total of 24 dams and diversion weirs
including Kangyigon Dam have been opened in Bago Division.

The Government is creating favourable conditions by spending a large sum of money on implementing  underground water projects and river water pumping projects with a view to ensuring that everybody does not need to worry about water for the agricultural purpose.

Local farmers are to put all their arable lands under cultivation by making best use of favourable
conditions created by the Government. Although they can grow and sell crops freely as they like, they  should cultivate crops which are suitable to their region and can benefit the State and the people, and  sell crops to some extent to the country with conscientiousness.

As the State and the farmers are interdependent, concerted efforts are to be made to achieve economic  development of the nation. In addition, it is required to increase sown-acreage, boost per-acre yield,  minimize loss and wastage and producing crops of high quality.

Permission has been given to private national entrepreneurs to reclaim fallow and virgin lands and
inundated areas in every state and division for two years. As private entrepreneurs have capital, modern  agricultural technology and machinery, modern fields will emerge.

The agriculture sector will improve significantly and so will the conventional farming methods of farmers  soon. Due to concerted efforts of private entrepreneurs and conventional farmers, Myanma agriculture  sector will surely make progress soon.

The Secretary-2 urged local farmers to make full use of their land by cultivating all kinds of crops.

In conclusion, the Secretary-2 called on all to carry out agricultural undertakings with full energetic
efforts, to maintain the dam and to strive for peace and tranquillity and development of the State.

Then, Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin said that altogether 107 dams have been constructed after the
Tatmadaw assumed duties of State, and they can irrigate over 1,535,000 acres of land.
