(1) State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe accepts credentials of Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh

YANGON, 10 March - Mr Ahmed Rahim newly accredited Ambassador of the People's Republic of  Bangladesh to the Union of Myanmar, presented his credentials to Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman  of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 9.30 am today.

Also present on the occasion were State Peace and Development Council Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department Minister of Foreign Affairs.



(2) Secretary-l meets Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of Lao PDR

YANGON, 10 March - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt met  the visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr Boungnang Vorachith of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and delegation members at Inya Kantha State House at 6.30 pm today.

The guests were accompanied by Ambassador of Lao PDR Mr Ly Bounkham.


(3) Leading Committee for Observance of 55th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day meets

YANGON, 10 March - The fifth coordination meeting of the Leading Committee for Observance of the 55th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day took place at the Ministry of Defence this afternoon, addressed by Chairman of the Leading Committee Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Lt-Gen Tin Oo said that the Tatmadaw, demanded by history, was born of people, and it managed to wrest back sovereignty, joining hands with people. So, the Armed Forces Day is concerned not only with the Tatmadaw alone but also with the entire people.

The military parade of the Armed Forces Day could be held more magnificently and systematically year by year. All the working committees need to do respective tasks by drawing plans with a view to holding the 55th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day better than it was previous years.

The military parade of the Armed Forces Day needs to manifest the noble and glowing historical
traditions and the strict discipline of the Tatmadaw and the sense of oneness. Therefore, brother
organizations of the Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force. Fire Services Department and Myanmar Red Cross Society, will participate in the military parade, and thus, the strength of unity will be
demonstrated.

In building a peaceful, modern and developed nation, the State Peace and Development Council has
combined the strengths of the people, the Government and the Tatmadaw. Therefore, tangible success has been achieved.

All need to try their utmost to let the international community know that 4he Tatmadaw is imbued with five basic attributes.

The State Peace and Development Council, laying down and implementing the 12 objectives, is building the nation into a peaceful modern and developed one. As known to all, projects for development of  national races and border areas have been carried out with a view to further making for national solidarity.

In conclusion, Lt-Gen Tin Oo urged all to carry out respective tasks energetically

Secretary of the Leading Committee Deputy Adjutant-General Col Ye Tun reported on decisions of the fourth meeting and progress of work in implementation of the decisions, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than on tasks done by the Management Committee, Chairman of Parade Work Committee Chief  of Armed Forces Training Maj-Gen Win Myint on parade drill and Chairman of the Committee for Organizing the Exhibition on Nation-Building Endeavours Minister for Labour Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe on  measures being taken to complete the exhibition in time.

Chairman of the Committee for Organizing Literary and Arts Competition Chief of Staff (Air) Brig-Gen  Myint Swe reported on tasks being carried out by the committee, Chairman of the Working Committee for Organizing Literary and Arts Competition Deputy Minister for Information U Thein Sein and Chairman of the Committee for Organizing Literary and Arts Competition of Institutes of Higher Learning and Basic Education Schools Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung reported on the work done.

Director of Resettlement Col Aung Thein reported on measures being taken by the Committee for
Organizing the 12 Objectives Exhibition.

Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Vice-Quartermaster-General Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, senior military officers and heads departments reported on arrangements for holding the 55th Anniversary of  Army Forces Day.

The meeting ended wit concluding remarks by Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

(4) Donations in cash and kind to Tatmadawmen

YANGON, 10 March - A ceremony to make donations in cash and kind to Tatmadawmen was held in the  hall of the Ministry of Defence this afternoon to hail the 55th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day.  Present were Chairman of the Leading Committee for Observance of the 55th Anniversary of Armed  Forces Day Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.


(5) Secretary-2 discusses production and sale of crops and vegetables

YANGON, 10 March - A coordination meeting on production and sale of kitchen crops was held at the Agricultural Museum in Bahan Township this evening, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and  Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

The Secretary-2 cited his recent tour of kitchen crops and vegetable farms in Bai-na region, DaikU
Township and Nyaunglaybin Township of 1 Bago Division.

It is learnt that kitchen crops and vegetables are grown in Bago, DaikU and Nyaunglaybin Townships of  Bago Division, and they are sent for sale to Yangon City. Like these townships, kitchen crops are thriving, in Hmawby and Mingaladon Townships of Yangon Division, and they are sent for sale to Yangon.

In conclusion, the Secretary-2 said that it was encouraging to see that crops of various kinds are
growing well, and so, the meeting was held to make arrangements for sending crops and vegetables to Yangon conveniently and enabling the people to consume fresh crops and vegetables.

Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein  and Col Maung Pa explained distribution and sale of crops in Yangon.

Joint Secretary of Yangon City Development Committee U Kyi Win, Director-General of the Cooperative  Department U Maung Hti, Chairman of Bago District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myo Tint  and Deputy Minister U Ohn Myint reported on matters related to easy and smooth distribution and sale of vegetables and crops.

The meeting ended with concluding remarks by the Secretary-2.

(6) Two combine harvesters donated to Agriculture Committee of Yangon Command

YANGON, 10 March - Hailing the 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day, a ceremony to donate two Korea-made KUKJE TC 1710L combine harvesters to Agriculture Committee of Yangon Command by  M.A.S International Trading Co.,Ltd was held at Hlaing Gymnasium, Yangon Command this afternoon.  The ceremony was attended by Chairman of Leading Committee for Organizing 55th Anniversary Armed  Forces Day, Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt- Gen Tin Oo.

U Kyaw Thin of M.A.S International Trading Co. Ltd, explained the purpose of the donation. Then, the  well-wisher U Kyaw Thin, wife Managing Director Daw Than Than Myint and daughter Hsu Myat Mon  handed over to Korea-made KUKJE TC1710L combine harvesters worth K 4 million to Commander Maj- Gen Khin Maung Than who spoke words of thanks.

After the ceremony Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party viewed the demonstration of the machines.


(7) Chief of Staff (Army) inspects drill of parade columns, booths of Defence Services Museum

YANGON, 10 March - Chairman of Leading Committee for Organizing the 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected the  drill of parade columns and display of booths of Defence Services Museum this morning.

Chief of Staff (Army) Lt Gen Tin Oo and party inspected the drill of Anawrahta, Kyansittha,
Bayintnaung, Nawade, Aung Zeya, Hsinphyushin, Bandoola, Myawady and Aung San parade columns  led by Parade Commander Brig-Gen Htay Oo.

Then, Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party went to Defence Services Museum and inspected  the booths of Twelve Objectives, Commands and Defence Services Museum and Historical Research  Institute.

Director of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute Col Ye Htut conducted them  round the museum.

Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo looked into the requirements.

(8) Secretary-2 presents Best Boxer Award for 20th Century Award to Captain Thein Myint (Retd)

YANGON, 10 March - The prize presentation ceremony for Year 2000 UMFCCI's Trophy Boxing Tournament was held at Indoor Stadium of Youth Training Centre-1 in Thuwunna this evening, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

After the final matches, Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung and Deputy Director-General of SPED Lt-Col Thein Aung presented first, second and third prizes to winners of Fly weight,  Light Fly-weight and Pin-weight respectively.

Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than presented the most advanced boxer award for 1999 to Tun Tun Oo (Defence).

Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo presented Best Boxer for 20th Century Award and K 150,000 to Captain  Thein Myint (Retd).

Next, Director-General Col Thaung Htaik, President of MBF U Win Myint and executives of MBF
presented first, second and third prizes to winners of Bantam-weight, Feather-weight, Light-weight.
Light Welter-weight, Welter-weight, Light Middle-weight and Middle-weight respectively.

Then, President of MBF U Win Myint presented the best boxer award to Kyaw Swa Aung (Ministry of  Agriculture and Irrigation) of Light Fly-weight.


(9) National Convention Convening Commission meets

YANGON, 10 March - The National Convention Convening Commission held its meeting at the meeting  hall of NCCC Office at 2 pm today.

It was attended by Chairman of NCCC Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and commission members.

Chairman Maj-Gen Saw Lwin made a speech on the occasion.

Then, National Convention Convening Work Committee and National Convention Convening
Management Committee reported on matters concerning the National Convention, followed by a general  round of discussion.

The meeting came to a close with the concluding remarks by Chairman Maj-Gen Saw Lwin.

(10) 39 Nattalin NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 10 March - Thirty-nine members resigned from the National League for Democracy of
Nattalin Township, Bago Division.

Thirty-nine members of Nattalin Township NLD, Bago Division,of their own accord, resigned by
sending letters of resignation to Nattalin Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-
commission Office and the party concerned on 4 November, 1999 as they no longer wished to
participate in party politics of NLD.
