(1) Cambodian Prime Minister and wife visit Shwedagon Pagoda,  Hlinethaya City of Industry
 
YANGON, 20 Feb - Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen and party, who are currently here on a friendly visit at the invitation of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet and officials, visited the Shwedagon Pagoda at 8.30 am today.

The visiting Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen and party observed the King Thayawady Bell on the pagoda platform and paid homage to Htidaw-design pagoda.
 
Then, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen poured water on the Buddha image at Tuesday P1anetary Post and paid obeisance to the Jade Buddha Image at Jade Buddha Image Tazaung.

The visiting Prime Minister and wife offered flowers, lights and incense sticks to the Buddha Image at the prayer hall of the western stairway of the pagoda.

Afterwards, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen presented US $ 1,000 for the pagoda trust fund to officials.
 
Members of Pagoda Board of Trustees presented a photograph of the Shwedagon Pagoda to the Prime Minister.

Then, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen and party paid obeisance to the Shwedagon Pagoda at the north-west corner of the pagoda and left there.

The visiting Prime Minister and wife and party, accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung. Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Brig- Gen Hsan Hsint and officials, arrived at Basic Education High School No 1 in Dagon Township at 9.20 am.

They were welcomed by Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Directors-General of Basic Education Departments, directors, the township education officer, the chairman and members of School Board of Trustees, executives of Parent-Teacher Association, Headmistress Daw Doris Ba Chit and teachers and students.
 
The visiting Prime Minister and party observed the domestic science room, painting room, library, language lab and multi-media lab at the school.

School girl Ma Thin Aye Mawya extended greetings at Dagon Thiri Hall.

School girls presented a entertainment programme the Prime Minister and party.

Later, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen signed in the visitors  book.

Afterwards, Minister U Than Aung and Daw Doris Ba Chit presented a souvenir to Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen.

The visiting Prime Minister and party together with Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Ambassador of Myanmar to Cambodia U Tint Lwin, Ambassador of Cambodia to Myanmar Mr Nim Chantara, Director- General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet and officials arrived at Kanaung Hall in Hlinethaya City of Industry at 10.30 am.

They were welcomed by Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Myint Thein, Director-General of Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development U Arnt Kyaw and officials.

At the Kanaung Hall, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun extended greetings to the guests and explained about the Hlinethaya City of Industry.

Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun presented souvenir to the visiting prime minister.

Then, the Prime Minister and goodwill delegation, accompanied by Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials, arrived at Taiyi Shoe Factory of Taiyi International Co Ltd in Hlinethaya City of Industry.

Chairman of Taiyi International Co Ltd U Sein Oo and officials conducted them round the factory.  Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen signed in the visitors  book at the factory.

U Sein Oo presented a souvenir to the Prime Minister.

The Cambodian Prime Minister and party also visited Sigma Cable Factory of Myanmar Sigma Cable Co Ltd.

Managing Director U Sit Nyein and officials conducted them round the factory.

Then, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen signed in the visitors  book at the factory and left there at 11.30 am.


(2) Secretary-l receives Canaan Farmers  School President of ROK

YANGON, 20 Feb - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Canaan Farmers  School President Mr Bum-II Kim and party of the Republic of Korea at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 11.30 am today.

The guests were accompanied by Ambassador of ROK Mr Chung Jung-gum.

(3) Tipitakadhara Dhamma Bandagarika Sayadaws and  Tipitakadhara Sayadaws honoured
 
YANGON, 20 Feb - A ceremony to honour Tipitakadhara Dhamma Bandagarika Sayadaws and Tipitakadhara Sayadaws and to share merits gained for donation of the monastery was held at Tipitakalinkara Ordination Hall of Tipitaka Maha Gandayon Kyaungtaik in Shwenatha Sanpya Village, Mingaladon Township, this morning, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

The Secretary-1 and party and the congregation received the Five Precepts from Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Rajindabhivamsa.

Then, the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha recited parittas.

The Secretary-l and party offered alms to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.

Dhammakathika Sayadaw Twantay Bhaddanta Indaka read out Tipita kadhara Dhamma Bhandagarika Gatha composed by Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Panissarabhivamsa of Pubbavideha Kyaungsaung of Kaba Aye Hill.

Bhaddanta Nanissara of Kaba Aye Tipitaka Maha Gandayon Kyaungtaik read out the Gatha of Presiding Sayadaw Shwenatha Tipitaka Maha Gandayon Kyaungtaik Vinavadhara Vinavakovida Bhaddanta Sitala composed by Presiding Sayadaws of Tipitaka Maha Gandayon Kyaungtaik Tipitakadhara Dhamma Bhandagarika Agga Maha Pandita PhD Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sumangalalankara.

Lecturer Sayadaw of Tipitaka Maha Gandayon Kyaungtaik Bhaddanta Artapa read out the Gatha of Ubatovibingadhara Lecturer Sayadaw Bhaddanta Nanikalankara composed by Lecturer Sayadaw of Kaba Aye Tipitaka Maha Gandayon Kyaungtaik Vinayadhara Ubhato Vibhangakovita Bhaddanta Vasethalankara.

Tipitakadhara Dhamma Bhandagarika Agga Maha Pandita PhD Bhaddanta Sumangalalankara delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

The Secretary- 1 performed the rituals of golden and silver showers to mark the successful completion of the ceremony.


(4) Secretary-1 meets national race leaders
 
YANGON, 20 Feb - Chairman of Work Committee for Development of Border Areas and National Races Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Kokang national race leader U Phon Kya Shin of Shan State (North) Special Region-1 and members U Phon Kya Phu and U Phon Ta Shwin and national race leader U Sai Lin of Shan State (East) Special Region-4 and members U San Peh and U Min Ein at the Tatmadaw Guest House on Inya Road this evening.

Tasks for regional development were discussed.


(5) Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen and party visit MMCWA building
 
YANGON, 20 Feb - Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen s wife Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen and party visited Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association at the corner of Thanthuma and Parami Roads in South Okkalapa Township this morning.

Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen and party, accompanied by Daw San Yon, wife of Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Daw Khin Swe Soe, wife of Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win, Daw Khin Khin Lwin, wife of Ambassador of Myanmar to Cambodia U Tint Lwin, Daw Saw Mya, wife of Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department and officials, arrived at MMCWA building in South Okkalapa this morning.

In the briefing hall, Chairperson Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe and Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe explained about the formation and aims of the association and functions. They then discussed tasks being undertaken for mothers and children in the two countries.
 
The Chairperson and the Vice Chairperson presented souvenirs to Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen. Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen also presented US $ 2,000 to Daw Kyu Kyu Swe for MMCWA.

Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen then signed in the visitors  book and observed documentary photos related to activities of MMCWA. The guests also observed training of Cookery Course, Tailoring Course and Fruits Arrangement Course at Domestic Science School of MMCWA. At 11.30 am, the guests left MMCWA building.

(6) Minister for Commerce meets Bangladeshi counterpart
 
YANGON, 20 Feb - Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone met Minister of Commerce of Bangladesh Mr AWul Jalil and party, who stopped over briefly at Yangon Intemational Airport on their way back from Bangkok, at the airport this evening.

They discussed commercial and investment matters.


(7) Minister inspects regional development tasks in Pantanaw Einme
 
YANGON, 20 Feb - Minister for Progress of Border Area was and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, accompanied by officials of Development Affairs Department, inspected construction of gravel road in Chaunggale-Theingon Village and building of the Basic Education Middle School in Pantanaw this morning.

The minister heard report on progress in construction of gravel road and the school by the engineer in-charge and attended to village s needs.

Then, the minister attended donation for trust- fund of village development. Three well-wishers presented K 590,000 to Commissioner of Maubin District General Administration Department U Maung Maung and officials.

Afterwards, the minister inspected site chosen for construction of bridge which will link Chaunggale-Theingon and Yinpha Village and place for new dispensary and village roads.

In Einme, the minister met officials of Einme Township Development Affairs Department and gave instructions on sanitation, construction for tarred roads and village roads.

In the afternoon, the minister inspected township roads and proceeded to Pantanaw Bridge Construction Project. The minister gave instructions on ensuring easy access of local transport in the township after opening the bridge and town plan drawing for other side of Pantanaw. He then fulfilled the requirements of departments.


(8) Development in Myanmar explained to members of WPO
 
YANGON, 20 Feb - A ceremony to explain development in Myanmar to members of World Presidents Organization was held at the Tatmadaw Guest House on Inya Road this morning.

Present were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman s Office Brig-Gen Abel, officials of Office of Strategic Studies, entrepreneurs, members of WPO and special guests. Head of Department of the Office of Strategic Studies Col Thein Swe spoke.

Minister Brig-Gen Abel explained situation before 1988, political, economic and social developments and accomplishments after 1988 and State Development Projects to be implemented.

He replied to questions raised by members of WPO.

Myanmar entrepreneur Mr Surge Pun (a) U Thein Wai and General Staff Officer (Grade-1) Lt-Col Hla Min of the Office of Strategic Studies reported on economic opportunities in Myanmar where the open door economic policy is being practised.

Minister Brig-Gen Abel and officials replied to queries raised by members of WPO.

Leader of WPO Mr Jack Cowin of Competitiue Foods Australia Ltd of Australia expressed thanks.

(9) Stimulant tablets seized in Mongshu

YANGON, 20 Feb - A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, acting on information, while waiting on the uproad of No 4 region Kone Myint Tha Ward Mongshu mine, Mongshu, Shan State (South), on 4 February, searched Yan Kyaung Whan, son of U Yan Sike Taw, Shinsi village, Hopone cluster, Kyut Khaing Township, Mike Eik Swan (a) Eik Yi, son of U Saing Hwun, Mine Sat village, Nant Kham Township and Ko Lont, son of U Wai Pa, Thant Seik village, Paletwa Township and seized 2550 tablets bearing WY in 13 packets together with them.

Action is being taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.


(10)  37 Labutta Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 20 Feb - Thirty seven members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Labutta Township, Ayeyawady Division.

37 members of Labutta Township, Ayeyawady Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Labutta Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Office and the party concerned on 16 December 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
