(1) Senior General and Madame Than Shwe welcome Prime Minister  of Royal Government of Cambodia and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen

YANGON, 19 Feb - At the invitation of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen arrived here by Special Aircraft at 11.45 am today on a friendly visit to the Union of Myanmar.

As the special aircraft carrying the Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia and wife and party arrived at the airport at 11.45 am, Director-General of the Protocol Department and Cambodian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Nim Chantara boarded the aircraft and welcomed the guests.

The visiting Prime Minister and wife were accorded a 19-gun salute. Two young ladies presented bouquets to the visiting Prime Minister and wife. The distinguished guests were then greeted by Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and the Senior General presented his entourage to the visiting Prime Minister.

Next, the Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Senior General proceeded to the saluting dais and took the salute of the Guard of Honour, while the State Band played the national anthems of the two countries. The Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Senior General then inspected the Guard of Honour.

The Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Senior General were greeted by the Dean of Diplomatic Corps and diplomats. The guest, accompanied by the Senior General and Madame Than Shwe, proceeded to Senile Kantha State House in a motorcade. Students warmly greeted them from the airport building and along the way wishing the guests and the Senior General and Madame Than Shwe good health and hailing Cambodia-Myanmar friendship. Along the road outside the airport and along University Avenue up to the entrance to the Seinle Kantha State House, teachers, students and members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, members of Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades, nurses and the public numbering over 7,500 chanted slogans hailing friendship between the two countries. The guests together with Senior General and wife arrived at Seinle Kantha State House at 12.15 pm. In the afternoon, the Senior General and wife greeted the visiting Prime Minister and wife and left the House. Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen were accompanied by Mr Hor Namhong, Senior Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr Sok An, Senior Minister, Minister of the Council of Ministers and wife, Mr Cham Prasidh, Minister of Commerce, Mr Suy Sem, Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Mr Veng Sereyvuth, Minister of Tourism, Prince Sisowath Panara Sereyvuth, Secretary of State, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, Mr Chan Tong Yves, Secretary of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and other high-level officials.


(2) Senior General Than Shwe,  and Daw Kyaing Kyaing host  banquet for Cambodian guests

YANGON, 19 Feb - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing hosted banquet in honour of Royal Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen and goodwill delegation members at the Reception Hall of the Pyithu Hluttaw building on Pyay, Road at 7 pm. The State Band played the national anthems of Cambodia and the Union of Myanmar. Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, Prime Minister of Kingdom of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen proposed a toast to those present at the dinner.

Before and during the dinner, the guests were entertained to songs by vocalists of Myanma Athan modern music troupe. After the dinner the guests were entertained with a programme of cultural dances in Thabin Hall. Prime Minister of Kingdom of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen presented flower basket to artistes.


(3) Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe receives  Prime Minister of Cambodia

YANGON, 19 Feb - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe received Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen, currently here on a friendly visit, at Credentials Hall of the Pyithu Hluttaw building at 4 pm today.
Visiting Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen was accompanied by Mr Hor Namhong, Senior Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr Sok An, Senior Minister, Minister of the Council of Ministers and wife, Mr Cham Prasidh, Minister of Commerce, Mr Suy Sem, Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Mr Veng Sereyvuth, Minister of Tourism, Prince Sisowath Panara Sereyvuth, Secretary of State, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, Mr Chan Tong Yves, Secretary of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and other high-level officials.

(4) Myanmar, Cambodia sign Agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports

YANGON, 19 Feb - The government of the Union of Myanmar and the government of the Kingdom of Cambodia signed the Agreement between the two Governments on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports at the Pyithu Hluttaw this evening. Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Mr Hor Namhong signed the agreement and exchanged the documents.


(5) Secretary-l and wife call on Prime Minister and wife of Cambodia

YANGON, 19 Feb - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen, currently here on a friendly visit, at Seinle Kantha State House at 3 pm today. Present together with the visiting Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen were Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr Hor Namhong, Senior Minister and Minister of the Council of Ministers Mr Sok An and wife, Minister of Commerce Mr Cham Prasidh, Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy Mr Suy Sem, Minister of Tourism Mr Veng Sereyvuth, Ambassador of Cambodia Mr Nim Chantara and wife.


(6) Cambodian Prime Minister and wife plant tree to commemorate their friendly visit

YANGON, 19 Feb - Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen who are on a friendly visit here, planted a tree to mark their friendly visit in the People s Park on Pyay Road this evening. The visiting Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen, accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and wife Daw San Yon, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and wife, Ambassador of Myanmar to Cambodia and wife, Ambassador of Cambodia Mr Nim Chantara and wife, Director-General of Protocol Department and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cambodian Embassy, arrived at the People s Park at 5.30 pm today. Then, the visiting Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen planted a Yaytama tree to mark their friendly visit here.

Afterwards, the visiting Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen and party posed for souvenir photo together with Minister U Win Aung and wife, Mayor U Ko Lay and wife in front of the Yaytama tree. The Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen and party inspected the trees which were planted by heads of state of ASEAN member countries to mark their friendly visits here at the invitation of Senior General Than Shwe. Then, the visiting Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Madame Bun Rany Hun Sen cordially greeted Mayor U Ko Lay and wife and left there.

(7) Minister for H & T receives Minister of Tourism of Cambodia

YANGON, 19 Feb - Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin received Minister of Tourism of Cambodia Mr Veng Sereyvuth at his office this evening. The two ministers discussed matter related to development of tourism between the two countries.


(8) Myanmar Oriental Bank Ltd opens Bayintnaung Branch

YANGON, 19 Feb - Myanmar Oriental Bank Ltd opened Bayintnaung Branch on Aungthabye Road, Hline Township, this morning. The ceremony was attended by Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs , Deputy Minister, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar, the directors-general and managing directors of departments and enterprises under the Ministry of Finance and Revenue, Chairman of Myanmar Oriental Bank Ltd and officials, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and guests. Minister U Khin Maung Thein and Chairman U Tin Oo formally opened the branch, and those present and guests toured the branch.


(9) Minister inspects construction of Zawgyi river bridge

YANGON, 19 Feb - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied by officials of Public Works, arrived at the construction site of Zawgyi river bridge which is four-lane concrete bridge, in Kyaukse yesterday afternoon. The minister looked into the requirements.


(10)  Minister inspects cruise liner  Thanlwin

YANGON, 19 Feb - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by Deputy Ministers, Managing Director of Myanmar Five Star Line and officials, visited cruise liner   Thanlwin  of MFSL at Thakayta Wharf this morning. The minister inspected the cruise liner and gave instructions on maintenance of the cruise liner and providing of services to passengers.


(11)  Minister inspects plants under Ministry of Industry-2

Y ANGON, 19 Feb - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, accompanied by Deputy Minister, arrived at the area of the Ministry of Industry-2 in South Dagon Industrial Zone this morning.
Managing Director U Kyaw Win of Myanma Machine Tool and Electrical Industries and officials of Myanma Industrial Construction Services reported on the arrangements in the briefing hall. Then, the minister and party inspected construction projects of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Cylinder Plant, Plastic Injection Moulding Plant and Bolt & Nut Plant being built by Myanma Machine Tool and Electrical Industries. Afterwards, the minister and party inspected Acetylene Gas Plant and Oxygen Gas Plant of Myanma Machine Tool and Electrical Industries, and gave instructions on works. At CKD Painting Shop being built by Myanmar Suzuki Motor Co Ltd, Managing Director of Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries reported on progress in construction of the workshop and work to be done. The minister fulfilled their requirements.

(12)  27 kilos of Ephedrine seized in Mandalay

YANGON, 19 Feb - Members of local intelligence unit, acting on information, raided the house of Win Myint, son of U Kyi Yan Kyee La, at No 203 on 27th Street between 83rd and 84th Streets in Chanayethazan Township on 7 February.

The members of the unit seized 27 kilos of Ephedrine powder together with owner of the house. According to his confession, the authorities nabbed owners of Ephedrine powder U Ba Yin s son Myint Swe who lives in the house at the corner of 55 and Padaukwa Streets in Myayinanda Myothit, Mandalay, and U Sein Hoak s son Tin Tun of Saingtaung Village, Phakant Township. Action is taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.


(13)  37 Letpadan Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 19 Feb - Thirty seven members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Letpadan Township, Bago Division. Thirty seven members of Letpadan Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Letpadan Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Office and the party concerned on 15 December 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party of NLD.
