(1)  Secretary l receives MD of Modern Standard Communication Malaysia

YANGON, 17 Feb - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Managing Director of Modern Standard Communication Malaysia Lt-Gen Dato Raja Rashid (Retired) at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 4 pm today.


(2)  Development of Wa region in Shan State (North) gaining momentum

YANGON, 17 Feb - Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint looked into the requirements in developing Wa region in Shan State (North) yesterday and today. On arrival at Lashio Airport, they were welcomed by Commander of North-East Command Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen San Thein, Hsenwi Station Commander, division-level officials and Lashio Station Commander.

After paying homage to Kyetthaye-hsaung Tilawka Wizaya Yaygantaung Hsutaungpyi Pagoda in Lashio, the Secretary-3 and party helicoptered to Duma, where they were welcomed by Wa national leader U Pau Yu Chan and Wa people.
 
At the meeting with Wa national leader U Pau Yu Chan and members, they discussed implementation of northern Wa region all -round development project.

The Secretary-3 with U Pau Yu Chan, the Secretary-3 and party helicoptered to Pangsang. In Pangsang, the Secretary-3 and party inspected preparations being made to lay foundation to build Maha Panthu Theingi Pagoda on Theingi Yadana Hill.

At the meeting with Wa national leaders led by U Pau Yu Chan, the ministers and deputy ministers looked into the requirements in enhancing the standard of regional health and education, improving economic condition, developing transport and agriculture sectors, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and Commander Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo joined in the discussion.
 
The Secretary-3 presented 1,100 baskets of high-yield paddy strains, 1,000 baskets of high yield corn seeds and books on tea farming to U Pau Yu Chan. At his meeting with departmental personnel in Pang-sang, the Secretary-3 urged them to implement regional tasks, with patriotism and good-will, to consolidate national unity with Union Spirit, to dutifully carry out their departmental functions, to live in unity and amity with local people and to strive energetically for realizing the objectives of their respective departments.

Lt-Gen Win Myint presented gifts to departmental personnel. This morning, the Secretary-3 and party laid foundation of Maha Panthu Theingi Pagoda and offered  soon  to Sayadaws. They then inspected Pangsang on a motorcade. They arrived back here in the evening.


(3)  Secretary-3 lays cornerstone for construction of Maha Panthu  Theingi Pagoda on Theingi Yadana Hill in Pangsang
 
YANGON, 17 Feb - A ceremony to lay cornerstone for construction of Maha Panthu Theingi Pagoda on Theingi Yadana Hill in Pangsang, Shan State (North) was held on the hill this morning, attended by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Win Myint Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung, Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, national race leader of Shan State (North) Wa Region U Pau Yu Chan and national race leaders, commandants of regional battalions and local residents.

Director U Min Kyi of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana and Wa national U Lut Ywan acted as masters of ceremonies.

Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and party received the Nine Precepts from member of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Presiding Sayadaw of Lashio Myole Pariyatti Sarthintaik Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Kavindacara. Members of the Sangha recited parittas. Then, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, the commander, ministers, deputy ministers and national race leaders presented gems casket, stone plaque and cornerstones to the Pagoda.
 
Managing Director of Asia World Co Ltd U Tun Myint Naing presented 4,000 bags of cement to Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint for the construction of the pagoda. State Ovadacariya Kamaing- nxaing Kyaungtaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Muninda delivered a sermon. followed by sharing of merits.
 
Members of Upathaka conveyed the gems casket, bronze plaque, stone plaque and cornerstones to the foundation; At the auspicious time, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint laid the first corner-stone and sprinkled scented water on it.

Then, Secretary-3 Lt- Gen Win Myint and party took the designated places at the central pandal. Commander Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin kung Myint Oo presented a gems casket to Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint. Then, Secretary-3 Lt- Gen Win Myint, Commander Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, national race leaders U Pau Yu Chan and U Paw Laikhan placed the gems casket on die foundation.
 
Afterwards, they sprinkled scented water on the bronze plaque, the stone plaque and the foundation. National race leaders U Paw Laikhan, U Shauk Myin Lian and U Li Ze Yu, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, national race leaders U Pau Yu Chan and U Zaw Maing, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt and Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin laid the corner-stones and sprinkled scented water on the foundation. After the ceremony, they performed the ritual of golden and silver shower to mark the success of the ceremony.
 
Then, Secretary-3 Lt- Gen Win Myint and party offered  soon  to members of the Sangha.

(4)  Minister inspects agricultural farms in Kayin and Mon States

YANGON, 17 Feb - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, together with Chairman of Kayin State Peace and Development Council Col Saw Khin Soe and departmental officials, inspected Zwegabin Farm of Myanma Agriculture Service in Hpaan, Kayin State, on 15 February afternoon. The farm manager reported on crop research and dissemination of agricultural technology.
 
The minister and party met with departmental officials in Thuwunna Hall in Thaton, Mon State, in the evening. He spoke of the need to make efforts for development of agriculture, construction of dams and reservoirs for availability of water and taking measures to switch from conventional farming to mechanized farming. Officials reported on matters related to extension of agriculture and availability of water. The minister and departmental heads attended to their requirements. The minister, together with the commander of No 44 Light Infantry Division and the chairman of Thaton District Peace and Development Council, inspected Yeboakhlwe Diversion Dam and Diversion Weirs Nos 1 and 2 built on Myenigon Creek in Thaton District yesterday morning.
 
The minister and party went to No 14 Sugar Mill in Bilin, and the factory manager and officials reported on running of the factory and cultivation and purchase of sugar-cane. The minister inspected the sugar mill and gave instructions on the work. Afterwards, the minister and party proceeded to the oil palm farm on Pagoda Road in Kyaikto Township. Officials and researchers reported on cultivation of oil palms. Then, the minister inspected the farm and gave instructions on cultivation of oil palms and staff welfare.

The minister also inspected irrigation technology development training division in Bago.


(5)  Electrical Proficiency Course opened
 
YANGON, 17 Feb - Electrical Proficiency Course (Grade-2) No 1/2000 of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading was opened at the enterprise this afternoon attended by Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone . The minister delivered an address. Fifty-seven trainees are attending the five-week course.
 
Afterwards, the minister inspected staffs welfare functions of MAPT .
 


(6)  Malaysian delegation concludes visit
 
YANGON, 17 Feb - The delegation led by Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Seri Syed Hamid bin Syed Jaafar Albar left here for Malaysia by air this morning.

The delegation was seen of at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win and officials of the,Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassador of Malaysia Dato Mohammad Bin Noh and embassy staff.

(7)  Vice-Chairperson of MNWCWA inspects woman counseling centres

YANGON, 17 Feb - Vice-Chairperson of Myanmar National Working Committee for Women s Affairs Professor Daw May May Yee, member of the Committee Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and member of Yangon Division Working Committee for Women s Affairs Daw Malar Tint and party inspected the woman counseling centres opened at the offices of Yangon East District, Kamayut Township and Yangon North District Peace and Development Councils this morning.

They were welcomed there by chairmen of District Peace and Development Councils, departmental officials and members of District Working Committees for Women s Affairs.

Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe gave instructions on the work.


(8)  121 Sitha Village-tract NLD - members resign of own accord

YANGON, 17 Feb - One-hundred-twenty-one members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Sitha Village-tract in Shwegu Township, Kachin State.

One-hundred-twenty-one members of Sitha Village- tract NLD in Shwegu Township, Kachin State of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Sitha Village-tract Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office in Shwegu Township and the party concerned on 15 September 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
