Senior General Than Shwe   inspects development of Bokpyin, Taninthayi, Kyunsu, Myeik townships in Taninthayi Division

YANGON, 19 Jan - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence-Services Senior General Than Shwe inspected development of Bokpyin, Taninthayi, Kyunsu and Myeik townships in Taninthayi Division on 18 and 19 January.

At Laynya village in Bokpyin Township, the Senior and party heard a report on regional development condition presented by Tactical Operation Commander Col Tin Aung and officials at the regional battalion yesterday.

The Senior General and party inspected the completed Laynya-Mandaing Bridge on Laynya River, Laynya-Mandaing Road and development of Mandaing village.

At the regional battalion at Mawtaung-thebyu junction, the Senior General and party heard a report on regional development presented by Officiating Tactical Operation Commander Lt-Col Min Myint Swe and officials. They then met the Tatmadawmen and families.

On arrival at Taninthayi, they were welcomed by officiating Tactical Operation Commander Lt-Col Thein Tint and officials.

After observing developments in the town, they inspected Taninthayi Bridge Project.

Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun briefed them on points of the project.

Efforts should be made for the early completion of the bridge to ensure betterment and development of the regional transport, stressed the Senior General.

Linking Taungpharu Road in the south of Taninthayi and Aukkin jetty on the other bank, the concrete bridge will be 1,360 feet long.

At the basic education high school in Taninthayi, they met departmental personnel and local people.

Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt ,Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha and Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut looked into the requirements presented by officials sector-wise.

Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo also joined in the discussions.

Senior General Than Shwe said the government is fulfilling the requirements presented by local officials and people at the respective regions to the most possible degree. The government has some difficulties in fulfilling all the requirements in the entire nation as it is an enormous task. All should strive to earn more foreign exchange as some of the construction materials are being imported. Efforts to boost production will lead to earn extra foreign exchange; and more requirements can be fulfilled only when there is rise in foreign currency revenues. As the government is dutifully shouldering its part, so also the people should dutifully strive to boost production.

On arrival at Myeik, the Senior General and party were welcomed by Deputy Commander of Coastal Region Command Brig-Gen Tin Latt, Commander of Taninthayi Naval Region Command Commodore Soe Myint, officials and national entrepreneurs.

This morning in Kyunsu, the Senior General looked into the requirements presented by Commodore Soe Myint. The Senior General and party then inspected the town.

At the Township Peace and Development Council Office, the Senior General and party cordially met departmental personnel and local people.

Local authorities and officials presented accomplishments in implementing town development plans and requirements.

Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Minister Maj-Gen Tin Htut, Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister U Soe Tha, Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi and Minister Col Thein Nyunt gave suggestions.

The Senior General also cordially greeted them in the hall.

At 8 pm yesterday, the Senior General and party paid homage to Lay-kyunsimi Pagoda in Myeik.  The Senior General signed in the visitors book and presented donations to the pagoda.

Central Executive Committee members of Union Solidarity and Development Association U Soe Tha, U Thaung, Col Thein Nyunt, Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, who were included in the Senior Generals' entourage, met secretaries of Myeik District and Township USDAs, executives and ward/village organizers at the District USDA Office late yesterday evening.


(2)Over K 3.09b spent in extending, upgrading health facilities   enhancing medical education, staff qualifications 

YANGON, 19 Jan - A ceremony to open the 46th Conference of Myanmar Medical Association and the new MMA building was held this morning at the building, addressed by Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

The Secretary-1-unveiled the signboard of the building.

Next, a ceremony to open new building of MMA was held in front of it.

Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein and President of MMA Professor U Myo Myint formally opened the new building.

The Secretary-1 then unveiled the plaque of MMA The Secretary-1, the commander, the ministers, the deputy ministers and officials inspected the building.

Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein formally opened medicine and medical equipment booth in commemoration of the 46th MMA Conference and opening of the new building.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected medicines and medical equipment booths, documentary photos on health care services and health education booth.

The conference continues till 25 January.


(3)Secretary-1 receives Iran Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs
 
YANGON, 19 Jan - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Amin Zedah of the Islamic Republic of Iran and party at the Ministry of Defence at 5 pm today.

The guests were accompanied by Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mr Ramin Mehmanparast Nodehi.


(4)Deputy Prime Minister receives Ambassador of Bangladesh

YANGON, 19 Jan - On behalf of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe. Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun received Ambassador of Bangladesh Mr Jahangir Saadat at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 10 am today.


(5)Minister Inspects factories In Yangon

YANGON, 19 Jan - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung together with Deputy Ministers for Industry-1 Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Brig-Gen Kyaw Win and heads of department, met officials at Soap Factory No 1 of Myanma Pharmaceutical Industries on Bayintnaung Road in Hline Township at 7.30 am today.
 
Minister discussed promotion of factory standard, policy of the ministry, quality control and distribution of the products.

Minister U Aung Thaung and party inspected Sun Light, Caborlic and Shwe Wah soap and raw materials factory.

Minister U Aung Thaung, Deputy Ministers and party inspected production of Sun Light, Caborlic and Shwe Wah soap and gave instructions.

Minister U Aung Thaung and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thein Tun then arrived at Dagon Soft Drinks Factory on U Wisara Road in Dagon Township.

They inspected production and quality of soft drinks and functions of the factory with modern machine.

The minister met officials of the factory and gave suggestions to them.

Afterwards, they inspected installation of modern machine to produce purified water and production of purified water.

The minister and party proceeded to Diamond Soft Drinks Factory on Wadan Street in Lanmadaw Township.

They inspected production and quality control of soft drinks and production for soft drinks bag with the use of modern equipment and gave instructions.


(6)Myanmar delegation leaves for Thailand

YANGON, 19 Jan - Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin left here by air for Thailand this morning to attend the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ASI) 2000 and the 3rd Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers to be held from 20 to 26 January in Bangkok.

Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin was accompanied by Director-General U Khin Maung Latt, Deputy Director-General U Naing Bwa, General Manager U Htay Aung and Director Daw Nyunt Nyunt Than.


(7)Minister inspects police stations in Magway

YANGON, 19 Jan - Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, accompanied by Division Commissioner of Magway Administration Department and Head Officer of Magway Division Bureau of Special Investigation and party, inspected regional security, crime reduction, staff welfare and cultivation of annual and perennial crops at Magway Division Police station 17 January.

The minister attended to their needs.

Then, Minister Col Tin Hlaing and party inspected Police Station in Magway Township.

The minister also inspected No 2 police station in Magway Township yesterday.

The minister gave instructions.


(8)Iran Deputy Foreign Minister arrives

YANGON, 19 Jan -At the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Amin Zedah of the Islamic Republic of the Iran and party arrived here by air this morning.

The visiting Deputy Minister and party paid a courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung at his office at 11 am.

Then, the visiting Deputy Minister and party met Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win.

They discussed matters pertaining to promotion of bilateral relations and international and regional affairs.


(9)227 Ngaputaw NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 19 Jan - A ceremony to present letters of resignation of 227 members of Tamanchaung Village-tract National League for Democracy5 Ngaputaw Township, Ayeyawady Division, was held at Kanni Village in the township at 1 pm on 19  September 1999.

Two hundred and twenty-seven members of Tamanchaung Village-tract National League for Democracy, Ngaputaw Township, Ayeyawady Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to the party concerned on 19 September 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

Member of Tamanchaung Village-tract NLD U Tun Thaung, on behalf of the party members, explained about the resignation from the party and handed over the letters of resignation to Chairman of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-Commission U Win Myint.
