(1) Secretary-1 receives Chairman of German-ASEAN Parliamentary Group

YANGON, 13 Jan - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Chairman of the German ASEAN Parliamentary Group  Dr Dietmar Kansy and party at the Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at  5 pm today.

The guests were accompanied by Ambassador Germany to Myanmar Dr Marius Haas.


(2) Secretary-3 inspects New Millennium Gems Jade Emporium

YANGON, 13 Jan - Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council  Lt-Gen Win Myint inspected the New Millennium Gems and Jade Emporium at  Myanma Gems Mart on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this evening.

The Secretary-3 and party inspected jade blocks displayed in the compound of  the mart and jewellery displayed on the top floor and central floor.

Official conducted them around the mart.

The Secretary-3 suggestions to officials and left the mart at 5.35 pm.


(3) Deputy Prime Minister meets guests from Israel

YANGON, 13 Jan - Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun met former Ambassador  of Israel Mr M Karni (Retd) and President of Z Broch Co Ltd Mr Z Broch who  called at his office at 2 pm today.

Also present at the call were officials of the Government Office.


(4) Minister inspects construction, agriculture in Taninthayi Division
 
YANGON, 13 Jan - Secretary of the Leading Committee for Development of  Region-wise Agriculture Sector Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office  Brig-Gen Lun Maung, together with Deputy Minister for Progress of Border  Areas and National Races and Development Affairs , Deputy Minister for  Forestry , Deputy Minister for Construction and officials, arrived at  Taninthayi River Crossing Bridge Project in Taninthayi Township on 11 January  morning.
 
The superintending engineer of the project reported on progress of work.

Afterwards, the minister and party proceeded to Yebyu Oil Palm Plantation  Camp of Shwekanbawza Agricultural Group.

Officials reported on the work.

Next, the minister and part inspected the plantation.

The minister and party also inspected production of rocks at Htonkha region  to be used in building Taninthayi-Boakpyin Road.

In the afternoon, the minister and part arrived at the oil palm nursery and  oil palm plantation of Myan Naing Myint Agricultural Company at Banlamut  region, Taninthayi Township.

They heard reportes on cultivation of oil palm.

(5) Minister supervises health care services in Myeik

YANGON, 13 Jan - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, together with  Secretary of National Health Committee Director-General of Health Planning  Department and officials of Health Department, arrived at Myeik on 11 January  morning.

The minister and the commander inspected the New Hospital (200-bed) Project  in Myeik, and gave instructions.

In the afternoon, the minister, the commander and party inspected Taninthayi  Township People's Hospital in Taninthayi.

They also met with members of the township health committee and the hospital  supervisory committee, health employees and members of social organizations  in the hall of Township People’s Hospital.

Health Planning Department, who accompanied the minister, met with the  medical superintendent, specialists, doctors, nurses, employees and midwifery  trainees at Myeik Hospital (200-bed) yesterday morning.

 He also met with members of executive committee of Myeik Township Maternal  and Child Welfare Association at the association in the afternoon.

Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein also met with health employees at the airport of  Kawthoung this morning.


(6) Minister visits No 1 Tire and Rubber Factory

YANGON, 13 Jan - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, accompanied by  officials, inspected production of tyres for heavy automobiles at No 1 Tyre  and Rubber Factory under Myanma Tyre and Rubber Industries in Thaton, Mon  State  on 10 January after noon.

The minister and party went to Myanma Industrial Construction Services in  Mawlamyine, Mon State, on 11 January morning.

Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin explained efforts of Myanma Industrial Development  Committee for development of the private industrial sector and attended to  their requirements.

Afterwards, the minister and party inspected Mon State Hall Construction  Project, Ninth Student Sports Festival Sports Ground Project and Sasana  Beikman Soonsarhsaung Construction Project, and gave instructions on the work.

Then, the minister inspected the site chosen for Mawlamyine Industrial Zone  by the side of Mawlamyine-Zathabyin Road near Nyaungbinseik Village-tract,  Kyaikmaraw Township, Mawlamyine District.

Yesterday morning, the minister and party inspected warehouses of No 1 Tyre  and Rubber Factory (Thaton} under MTBI and construction of children's sports  ground and staff quarters.

(7) Minister inspects sports grounds and stadiums in Mandalay

YANGON, 13 Jan - Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports  Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, together with Deputy Director-General of Sports and  Physical Education Department Lt-Col Thein Aung and officials, inspected the  plot of land owned by the Ministry of Sports to the south of 73rd Road and  Theikpan Road, Bahtoo Sports Ground and Stadium, Aungmyay Mingalar Sports  Ground and Stadium and the sports ground at the foot of Mandalay Hill  yesterday morning.

The minister and party met with employees of the Ministry of Sports in the  meeting hall of Bahtoo Sports Ground.

The minister elaborated on the guidance given by the Head of State for  improvement of sports standard and selection and training arrangements made  by the ministry, and urged all to discharge their duties conscientiously.


(8) Delegation of Bangladesh arrives to attend senior officials meeting

YANGON, 13 Jan - A seven-member delegation led by Secretary of Relief and  Disaster Mr Azad Ruhul Amin of Bangladesh arrived here by air this evening to  attend a meeting of senior officials between Myanmar and Bangladesh to be  held at the Traders Hotel on 14 January.

They were welcomed at the Yangon International Airport by Director General  Col Maung Htay of Immigration and National Registration Department, Deputy  Director-General and officials of Embassy of Bangladesh.


(9) 35 Letpadan NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 13 Jan - Thirty-five members resigned from the National League for  Democracy of Letpadan Town Ship, Bago Division.

Third-five members of Letpadan Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own  accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Letpadan Township  Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party  concerned on 29 November 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in  party politics of NLD.
