(1)    Strengthen political, economic and military might to safeguard independence and sovereignty

YANGON, 21 Oct - The Central Committee for Observance of the 52nd Anniversary Independence Day of theyear 2000 held a meeting at the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) at 4 pm today, with an address byChairman of the Central Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary- l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said.

Afterwards, Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee for Observing the 52nd Anniversary Independence DaySecretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo said.

After giving suggestions, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt delivered the concluding address.

(2)    New hospital garbage collection, disposal system to be introduced

YANGON, 21 Oct - Environmental Conservation and Sanitation Department of Yangon City DevelopmentCommittee will introduce a new garbage collection and disposal system at hospitals and dispensaries.A meeting was held this afternoon at City Hall to coordinate means to implement the project.

Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein and Chairman of YCDC Mayor U Ko Lay delivered addresses.

(3)    Minister meets MD of Krupp Engineering Asia Pacific Pte Ltd

YANGON, 21 Oct - Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office and Secretary ofMyanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung met Managing Director of Krupp Engineering Asia PacificPte Ltd of Singapore Dr Volkmar Wasmansdorff and party who called at the MIC Office at 1 pm today.

Also present at the. call were officials of Directorate of Investment and Companies Administration.

YANGON, 21 Oct - Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor of Yangon U Ko Lay metAmbassador of Germany Mr Marius a who called at his office this morning.

YANGON, 21 Oct - Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw Tun met Ambassador of Bangladesh MrJahangir Saadat who called at his office at 3 pm today.

Also present at the call were Deputy Minister, Director-General of Immigration and National Registration Departmentand officials.

YANGON, 21 Oct - Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein met Vice-President of CPGroup of Thailand Mr Phichet Sivasri and party who called at his office at noon today.

Similarly, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein met Ambassador of Lao People'sDemocratic Republic Mr Ly Bounkham who called at his office at 4 pm today.

(7)     Officials seek means to successfully cultivate buckwheat in Shan State (North)

YANGON, 21 Oct - A meeting was held this afternoon to coordinate formation of the supervisory committee tosuccessfully implement the project to cultivate poppy substitute buckwheat in regions of Shan (North) in 1999-2000,addressed by Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt.

YANGON, 21 Oct-Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Secretary of MyanmarInvestment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung met Chairman Mr Paul Wan of Morison International Asia Pacific of Singapore who called at his office this afternoon.

Also present were officials of Directorate of Investment and Companies Administration.

(9)     Minister for Electric Power inspects Innlay Lake

YANGON, 21 Oct - Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut inspected the condition of Innlay Lake on 16October.At his meeting with officials in Nyaungshwe, he discussed implementation of the six objectives for long-term existenceof the lake, clearing of the blockages and beautifying of the lake.

On 18 October, the minister and party inspected Paunglaung Hydel Power Project where officials reported on points ofthe project.

At Zaungtu Hydel Power Project, the minister met with officials and gave instructions on works.

He then inspected the progress in building the spillway, sluice gates, inlet portal, valves and the power station.

The minister urged personnel of the project to strive for completion of the project on schedule in accord with theguidance of the Head of State, applying innovative methods, systematic use of heavy equipment, ensuring work sitesafety and conducting staff welfare work.

(10)     Commander hands over flag representing Yangon Division to Yangon Division
performing arts troupe

YANGON, 21 Oct - A ceremony to hand the flag representing Yangon Division to Yangon Division performing artstroupe and to give away prizes to winners of the Seventh Yangon Division Performing Arts Competition was held atBasic Education High School No 2 in Latha Township.this afternoon.

Present on the occasion were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon DivisionPeace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, CommanderMaj-Gen Khin Maung Than handed the flag representing Yangon Division to Manager of Yangon Division performingarts troupe.

In his address, the commander said.

Then, the "commander and officials presented prizes to winners of the Seventh Yangon Division Myanmar Traditionalcultural Performing Arts Competition.

Afterwards, the entertainment programme followed.

(11)    Commander inspects No 106 Saw Mill in Yegyi Township

YANGON, 21 Oct - Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-WestCommand Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, accompanied by Chairman of Pathein District Peace and DevelopmentCouncil and departmental officials, arrived at No 106 Saw Mill on Thida Hill in Yegyi Township on 20 Octobermorning.

The commander gave instructions.

The commander and party inspected the furniture workshop, operation capacity, the briquette factory, teak, mahoganyand vegetable plantations, paddy fields and staff quarters and gave instructions to officials.

Commander Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann went to the construction site of Ywaleyoegyi Bridge at 69 mile post onPathein-Monywa Highway.

The commander then attended to their needs.

The commander also inspected threshing and drying of paddy in Sattwin Village in Yegyi Township.

Commander Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann gave instructions.

Then, Commander Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann attended to their needs.

(12)    59 members resign from Letpadan Township NLD

YANGON, 21 Oct - Fifty-nine members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Letpadan Township,Bago Division-.

Fifty-nine members of Letpadan Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters ofresignation to Letpadan Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Office and the partyconcerned on 7 May 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
