(1)    Secretary-1  receives  Director-General of Defence Intelligence of Malaysian Armed Forces

YANGON, 6 Sept- Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development  Council of the Union of Myanmar Chief of  the  Office  of  Strategic Defence  Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt  of Defence Intelligence  of  Malaysian Armed  Forces  Dato' Azzuddin bin Ahmad who called at Dagon  Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence Serve today.

Also  present  at the  call  Office  of  Strategic Studies  Deputy Director  of  Defence Services Intelligence Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, Heads of Department  of OSS Col  Thein  Swe  and  Col  Kyaw Thein, Military Attache of the Union of Myanmar to Malaysia Col Ko Ko Kyaw and officials.

 The guest was  accompanied by Defence  Adviser of Malaysia  an  Embassy Lt-Col  Harun  bin  Hitan.

(2)     Dagon Township BEPS No 5 gets multimedia   teaching centre

YANGON, 6 Sept-A  ceremony  to  opened  multimedia teaching centre of Dagon Township Basic  Education Primary  School No S was held at the  school  this morning, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee  Secretary-1  of  the  State  Peace  and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

 Also present on the occasion  were  Minister  for  Cooperatives U Aung San, Minister for Information  Maj-Gen  Kyi Aung,  Minister  for  Livestock  and  Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Minister at  the Prime  Minister's  Office  Lt-Gen  Tin  Ngwe,  Deputy  Ministers for Education  Brig-Gen Soe Win
 Maung and U Myo  Nyunt,  officials  of the  State  Peace and Development  Council Office, department  heads, members of District and Township Peace and  Development Councils, members  of  the  Union  Solidarity  and  Development Association,  Director-General of No  3 Basic Education  Department  Col  Thein  Aung and  officials,  the  township education  officer, school heads members  of  the  school board  of trustees and  the  parent-teacher  association,  Head of the  school  Daw Win Myint Thu and staff and students.

A  series of entertainment programmes were presented.

 Then,  the  Secretary-l formally  unveiled  the  signboard of the  multimedia  teaching  centre of  the school.

 Afterwards, the Secretary-1  and party  inspected the  computer  section,  the  demonstrative  media section,  the  reading section,  the listening section, the education  broadcasting  section, the music section and the painting  section.

(3)     Deputy  Prime  Minister receives officials   of Thilawa Cement & Building Materials Ltd

YANGON, 6 Sept-Deputy  Prime Minister  Chairman of Myanmar Investment  Commission  Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received  Managing  Director of Thilawa Cement & Building Materials Ltd Mr Wolfgang Perner and party who called at his office at 10 am today.

 Progress  of  Investment  in  Myanmar  by Thilawa  Cement & Building Materials Ltd was discussed.

 Also present on the occasion were Minister at the State  Peace  and Development Council Office Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen  Maung Maung and  officials of Government Office and Myanmar Investment  Commission  Office.

(4)     Provisions donated to Maha Visudayon Pali  Tekkatho Sarthintaik in Bahan Township

YANGON, 6  Sept-Families  of Tatmadaw  (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers donated rice, oil, salt, medicine and gram to Maha Visudayon  Pali Tekkatho Sarthintaik  in Yedashe Ward of Bahan  Township at the Dhammayon of the Sarthintaik this morning.

 The ministers and officials presented offertories  to the Sayadaws.

 Ministers  Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe accepted K 158,000  donated  towards  the funds of Soonpadethabin  by well-wishers  including  Yangon Division  Peace and  Development  Council,  Yangon City Development Committee and  Yangon  West District  Peace and  Development  Council.

(5)     Minister  inspects  Institute  of Dental   Medicine (Yangon)

YANGON, 6 Sept - Minister  for Health  Maj-Gen Ket Sein, accompanied by Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo and officials, arrived at Institute of Dental Medicine (Yangon) on Thanthuma Road in Thingangyun Township at I pm today and met with Rector Dr.Paing Soe and professors.

 The rector reported on progress of  construction,  academic programme and set-up of the institute.

 The  minister inspected construction  of  the  institute  and  departments,  and gave  necessary  instructions.

 At  the  office  of  the  building construction  project  region  No  4,  officials reported  on  matters  relating  to  the  construction  to  the  minister.

 At 3 pm, the  minister  and party  inspected  the medical units of the Institute of Dental  Medicine (Yangon) at  Thingangyun  Model  Hospital.

(6)     Minister for Construction inspects roads, bridges

YANGON, 6 Sept-Minister  for Construction  Maj-Gen Saw Tun and  officials of public  Works  inspected paving  of Kyunchaung-Myitchay-Kanma-Pakokku section in Pakokku Township on 5 September.

 The  minister  went to the  construction  site of  Hsinbyushin Bridge across Chindwin River near Min  Village in Yesagyo Township.

Superintending  Engineer  U Win  Tin  reported  on progress of work.  The minister gave  instructions on work.

 The  minister also inspected extension of Letpan-Chaypaw-Myingyan  Road  (NyaungU  section).

(7)     ASEAN Heads of Mission briefed on actual  situation in Myanmar

YANGON, 6 Sept- A briefing on actual  situation in the Union of  Myanmar  was held at 10 am today for the ASEAN  Heads of  Mission  in Yangon at the Wun Zin Min Yaza Hall, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 Present on the occasion were  Minister of Foreign  Affairs U Win Aung, Deputy  Minister U Khin Maung  Win, the Dean Diplomatic  Corps  Ambassador Mr Ly  Boukham of Lao People's  Democratic  Republic and  Ambassadors  and  Charges  Affairs  from  Brunei,  Cambodia,  Indonesia,  Malaysia, the Philippines,  Singapore Thailand and  Vietnam  as  well  as  Director-Generals and responsible  officials from  the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 Afterwards,  Deputy  Minister  U Khin  Maung  Win  replied to the  questions  raised by the  various  Heads of Mission.

 The Heads of  Mission  then  viewed  the  various documents  and  articles  seized  from  subversive elements.

(8)     Minister inspects  schools  for  development   of youths of border areas

YANGON, 6  Sept-Minister  for  Progress  of Border Areas and National Races and  Development  Affairs Col  Thein Nyunt inspected the school  for development  of youths of  border  areas at Loimwe village, Kengtung Township, on 3 September.

 At his  meeting  with the  members  of the school  administrative  body and  teachers,  the minister  urged  them to strive  to  uplift  the  patriotic  spirit  and the will to  uphold  Our  Three  Main  National  Causes of  students.  The next  day, he  visited the school for  development  of youths of  border areas in Kengtung  and met with  officials  and teachers.

 The minister  presented gifts and cash assistance  to the students of the school.

 During his  inspection of the women's  vocational education  training  school, the  minister  looked into the  requirements  of teachers and  trainees.

(9)    Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysian  Armed  Forces Headquarters to Yangon

YANGON,  6 Sept-Chief of  Defence Forces  of Malaysian  Armed Forces  Headquarters  General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd  Zahidi bin Hj  Zainuddin  and party,  currently here on a goodwill  visit at the invitation of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy  Commander-in-Chief  of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, accompanied by Myanmar Military Attache to Malaysia Col Ko Ko Kyaw and Defence  Adviser of Malaysian  Embassy  Lt-Col  Harun  bin  Hitan  and officials, arrived at National Defence College.

 Commandant  Brig-Gen Moe Hein extended  greetings  to the guests.  They then exchanged gifts.

 The visiting Chief of Defence  Forces of Malaysia  spoke words of thanks and  observed  library  and  showrooms and signed in the visitor's book.

 The guests  proceeded  to Myanma  Gems  Museum on  Kaba Aye Pagoda Road.

The visiting  Chief of Defence  Forces of Malaysia and party laid flower  baskets and paid tribute to fallen  heroes.  The  visiting  Chief  of  Defence Forces of Malaysia  signed in the visitors'  book.

(10)     Copier donated to Ministry of Information

YANGON,  6 Sept-Ambassador of  the  People'  s Republic of China Mr Liang Dong  presented a Canon copier for the Ministry of Information to Minister for Information  Maj-Gen Kyi Aung at his office on Bo Aung Kyaw Street this  morning.  Present on the occasion  were  Deputy  Minister  for  information Brig-Gen  Aung  Thein,Director-General  of  Myanma Radio and Television U  Khin Maung Htay, Director-General of Information and Public Relations Department  U  Chit  Naing, Managing Director of Printing and  Publishing  Enterprise U Than Maung Managing Director of  News  and Periodicals Enterprise U  Tin  Kha, Managing Director of Myanma Motion Picture  Enterprise U Bo Kyi, Adviser at the Ministry of  Information U Hla Kyin, Chief Engineer of MRTV U Tin Wan, Adviser to the  minister  U Kyaw Min,  Head of  Office U Khin Maung  Myint  and officials of  PRC Embassy.

(11)     Heroin seized in Phakant

YANGON, 6 Sept- A combined team comprising members of local battalion,  intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force searched  vehicles and  passengers at Lebyin No 1  Check-point  in  Lonkhin  Village  of Phakant Township, Kachin State, on 17 August.

The team nabbed  Kyaw  Naing, son of U Maran Tu of No 279,  region 5,  Ayethaya  Ward 9 of  Taunggyi, together with three soap cases of heroin  weighing 57.15 grams from his bag.

 Action is taken  against  him under the  Narcotic Drugs and  Psychotrophic  Substances  Law.

(12)     22 members resign from Einme Township NLD

YANGON, 4  Sept-Twenty-two  members  resigned from National  League for Democracy of Einme  Township, Ayeyawady Division.

 Twenty-two members  of  Einme Township NLD,
 Ayeyawady Division,  of  their  own volition,  resigned  by sending  letters of  resignation  to  Einme  Township Multiparty Democracy  General  Election  Sub-commission  and the party concerned  on 15 July  1999 as  they  no  longer  wished  to  participate in party politics of NLD.
