(1)  Shwehtidaw of Shwethalyaung Pagoda hoisted in Kyaukse

YANGON, 27 July – Shwehtidaw hoisting ceremony of Shwethalyaung Pagoda was held at Mingala Mandat at the top of Thalyaung mountain, east of Kyaukse Township in Mandalay Division this morning.

Present on the occasion were members of the Sangha led by State Ovadacariya Laytha Kyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Javana, Daw Kyaing Kyaing, wife of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe, Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife.

Daw Kyaing Kyaing, the Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and party took the Nine Precepts from Chairman of Kyaukse Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Zibinwunkyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pannajota.

Daw Kyaing Kyaing and family, the Secretary-3 and wife, the commander and wife, the ministers, the deputy ministers and of officials sprinkled scented water on Shwe Htidaw, Seinphudaw and Hngetmyatnadaw.

At the auspicious time, Daw Kyaing Kyaing and family hoisted the second tier of Htidaw atop the pagoda by decorated cable carriage Remaining tiers of Htidaw, Hngetmyatnadaw, Seinphudaw, Hsatthwaphu Hinthana and Seinpankhaing were conveyed atop the pagoda. At 10.15 am, Htidaw hoisting ceremony came to an end. They performed the ritual of golden and silver showers to mark the success of the ceremony.

Daw Kyaing Kyaing and family, the Secretary-3 and party paid respects to old htidaw of Shwethalyaung Pagoda.

A consecration ceremony of Shwedagon replica golden pagoda was held at Shwemothtaw Pagoda this morning.

The pagoda donated by Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and family will be kept at Shwemothtaw Pagoda in Kyaukse for public reverence.

Vice-Chairman of Division Sangha Nayaka Committee In-yaung-kyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Aloka delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained.

'Soon' was offered to the members of the Sangha.

(2)  WCDBANR donates Waso robes to 12,00 members of Sangha of Wa region

YANGON, 27 July – The Work Committee for Development of Border Areas and National Races (WCDBANR) offered Waso robes to 1,200 members of the Sangha of Wa region, east bank of Thanlwin River, on 25 July at Theravada Buddhist Missionary Wailuwun Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Tangyang Township, Shan State (North).

Daw Kyaing Kyaing, wife of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe, attended 4 the ceremony and presented Waso robes and provisions to Sayadaws of Tangyang.

Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo presented Waso robes to Sayadaws of Manphant Township.

Patron Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kusala of Kyainggon Pariyatti Sarthintaik of Tangyang administered the Five Precepts.

Daw Kyaing Kyaing and family presented Waso robes for 154 Sayadaws of Tangyang and 100 bags of rice for 11 monasteries in the township to State Ovadacariya Sayadaw Bhaddanta Janinda of Aungmingala Kyaungtaik.

Daw Kyaing Kyaing and family presented 151 sets of robes and 50 bags of rice to nuns of Shwemong Sasana Waiponla Nunnery.

Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kusala delivered a sermon. The congregation shared the merits gained.

Daw Kyaing Kyaing Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo and wife and party looked into the requirements in building the Shwemong Aunghsupan Pagoda.

Daw Kyaing Kyaing presented gifts to Tatmadaw members.

In Lashio, Daw Kyaing Kyaing, Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, and party paid obeisance to Tilawka Wizaya Hsutaungpyi Pagoda and Maha Myat Muni Buddha Image.

(3)  Secretary-1 attends Shwehtidaw hoisting ceremony of Cedanagyi Pagoda in Bagan-NyaungU

YANGON, 27 July – Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony of consecrating Cedanagyi Pagoda and hoisting Shwehtidaw atop the pagoda in Bagan-NyaungU today.

The Secretary-1 left here by Tatmadaw aircraft yesterday morning and arrived at Bagan-NyaungU Airport at 8.20 am.

The Secretary-1, ministers and the congregation received Five Precepts from Alodawpyi Sayadaw Maha Gandhavasaka Pandita Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Ariyavamsa.

Later, the ceremony to hoist Seinphudaw, Hngetmyatnadaw and Shwehtidaw atop the pagoda was held.

Bhaddanta Indobhasa performed the rite of sending back the celestial beings.

The successful completion of the ceremony was marked by the ritual of golden and silver showers.

In the morning, the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha consecrated the pagoda.

(4)  Merits shared for gilding Dhammarajaka Pagoda in Bagan-NyaungU

YANGON 27 July – Merits gained for gilding the Dhammarajaka Pagoda built by King Narapati Situ in Bagan-NyaungU and erecting of the flagstaff at the pagoda were shared this morning in Aryonkhan Tazaung of the Pagoda.

Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe attended the ceremony.

The Secretary-1 and party paid obeisance to the pagoda.

Sayadaw Bhaddanta Ariyavamsa administered the Nine Precepts.

Sayadaws recited parittas.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe presented provisions to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Ariyavamsa.

Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and party offered day meal to Sayadaws at Aungmye Bodi Dhamma Yeiktha.

Sayadaws consecrated the pagoda in the early morning.

(5)  Waso robes, provisions donated to Sangha of Nagahlinegu Kalewatawya Sarthintaik

YANGON, 27 July – Tatmadaw members of Army, Navy and Air Force and well-wishers donated provisions and Waso robes to members of the Sangha of Nagahlinegu Kalewatawya Sarthintaik this afternoon at the Sarthintaik.

Chief of Bureau of Special Operation Chief of Staff (Army) Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe attended the ceremony.

Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University administered the Nine Precepts.

Daw Khin Than Nwe presented 104 robes for nuns learning religious treatises at the Sarthintaik.

Patron of the Sathintaik member of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, Dwipitakadhara Dwipitakakovida Agga Maha Gandavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Jagarabhivamsa delivered a sermon.

The congregation shared the merits.

Waso robes were offered to 843 members of the Sangha and 104 nuns of the Sarthintaik.

(6)  Over 1,000 boys of national races initiated into novice-hood

YANGON, 27 July – The families of Shwethanlwin Company Ltd held a ceremony to initiate 1,028 boys into novice-hood at Myittawadi Hinthada Kyaungtaik in Ward-16, Hlaing Township, this morning.

Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe attended the ceremony and offered alms to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.

The Secretary-2 and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe and party, together with the families of Shwethanlwin Company Ltd, paid homage to 1,028 novices.

The Secretary-2 and wife and well-wisher families offered 'soon' to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.

(7)  Minister inspects preparations for opening of multimedia classroom at BEHS in Taungtha

YANGON, 27 July – CEC member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association U Aung Thaung yesterday inspected preparations for opening of multimedia classroom at Welaung station Basic Education High School in Taungtha Township, Mandalay Division.

Multimedia classrooms worth K 8 million were installed at high schools in Taungtha and Welaung stations.

U Aung Thaung discussed organizational matters with executives and organizers of Myingyan District and Taungtha Township at the Township USDA office.

He then paid respects to the remains of Yayle Sayadaw Bhaddanta Nandavamsa in Yayle Kyaungtaik in Taungtha.

U Aung Thaung inspected construction of building at Taungtha Home for the Aged and the Township Hospital.

U Aung Thaung inspected the BEHS in Taungtha and donated K 50,000 to Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association.

(8)  26 members resign from Singaing Township NLD

YANGON, 27 July – Twenty-six members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Singaing Township, Mandalay Division.

Twenty-six members of Singaing Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Singaing Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 3 May 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
