(1) Prime Minister of Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Sisavath Keobounphanh and Madame Khamla Keobounphanh leave for Bagan-NyaungU

YANGON, 25 Nov - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing cordially met Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Sisavath Keobounphanh and Madame Khamla Keobounphanh at Seinle Kantha State House here at 7.30 am today before they continued the goodwill visit in Myanmar.

Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Sisavath Keobounphanh and Madame Khamla Keobounphanh together with Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing left Seinle Kantha State House and arrived at Yangon International Airport at 8 am.

Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Sisavath Keobounphanh and Madame Khamla Keobounphanh cordially bade farewell to Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye and wife, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and wife, Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and wife, Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun and wife, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla and wife and Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win who were waiting at Yangon International Airport to see them off.

Then, Lao Prime Minister Mr Sisavath Keobounphanh and Madame Khamla Keobounphanh cordially bade farewell again to Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing.

Prime Minister and Madame Khamla Keobounphanh and party left by special flight for Bagan-NyaungU at 8.20 am.

YANGON, 25 Nov - Union Solidarity and Development Association Special Refresher Course No 4, Executives Advanced Managements Course No 3 and Executives Management Course No 16 were opened m Pyidaungsu Hall of Central Public Relations Unit in Hmawby, Yangon Division, at 9 am today with the opening address by Patron of USDA Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe.

The Senior General said it was a day of significance for the association as well as the trainees as USDA Special Refresher Courses No 4 Executives Advanced Management Course No 3 and Executives Management  Course No 16 were opened today.

(3) Secretary-1 views entertainment programme of Exhibition to Revitalize and Foster Patriotic Spirit

YANGON, 25 Nov - Patron of Leading Organizing Committee of the Exhibition '98 to Revitalize and Foster Patriotic Spirit Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt viewed the entertainment programme of the exhibition at Tatmadaw Convention Hall this evening.

Accompanied by member of the Panel of Patrons of the Leading Organizing Committee Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint, Chairman of the Leading Organizing Committee of the Exhibition to Revitalize and Foster Patriotic Spirit Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung and committee members, Chairmen and secretaries of various subcommittees, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt viewed the entertainment programme of the exhibition at the hall at 6 pm today.

Under the sponsorship of Motion Picture Asiayon, and Myanmar Thabin Asiayon, artistes of South and North Okkalapa Township Thabin Asiayons presented an entertainment programme.

Then, the Secretary-1 presented prizes to them.

(4) Contract for construction and management of No 1 Ahlon Wharf signed

YANGON, 25 Nov - A ceremony to sign contract for construction and management of No 1 Ahlon Wharf in Ahlon Township was held at Traders Hotel this evening, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin.

The wharf will be built by Asia World Port Management Co Ltd in cooperation with Myanma Port Authority of the Ministry of Transport.

Present also were Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Ministers at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Min Thein and Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Ministers at the Office of the Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe and Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Ministers for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint and U Pe Than, Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, heads of departments and officials, Managing Director of Asia World Port Management Co Ltd U Tun Myint Naing and members of the board of directors and guests.

Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Shwe said No 1 Ahlon Wharf will be built for handling of general merchandise and containers and Yangon Port will get another modern wharf for freight handling.

It is an effort for handling of export and import and future goods effectively and speedily and the wharf is to be built under BOT system with cent per cent investment of Asia World Port Management Co Ltd.

Next, Managing Director of MPA Col Thein Htay reported on work and Managing Director U Tun Myint Naing spoke.

Col Thein Htay and U Tun Myint Naing then signed the contract.

Minister Brig-Gen Maung Maung then presented the permit of MIC to U Tun Myint Naing.

(5) Construction of Combined Cycle Power Plant Project inspected in Hlawga

YANGON, 25 Nov - Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Maung Maung and Deputy Chief Engineer of Myanma Electric Power Enterprise U Htay Myint inspected Combined Cycle Power Plant Project site in Hlawga this morning.

Minister Maj-Gen Tin Htut called for efforts to ensure better quality of the project, to strive to meet the standard set, to complete the project in time, to minimize loss and wastage, to ensure smooth and easy arrival of imported machineries to the work-site, to prevent occupational hazard, to take measure against outbreak of fire, to ensure security and health and to carry out workers' welfare work.

(6) Deputy Prime Minister receives foreign entrepreneurs

YANGON, 25 Nov - Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun received Chairman Mr Shunichi Takenaga of Daimex Inc, Assistant Manager Mr Ii Mori of Nisshoiwai Tokyo Company of Japan and Director Mr Rao and party of Nekkanti Sea Foods Co Ltd of India who called at his office at 1 pm today.

Also present at the call were officials of Government's Office.

(7) Minister meets Director of Japan JTEC

YANGON, 25 Nov - Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin met Director Mr Hirohisa Yamakawa and party of Japan Telecommunications Engineering and Consulting Service (JTEC) who called at his office at this noon.

Present at the call were Managing Director Col Maung Maung Tin of Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications and officials.

(8) Myanmar sports delegation arrives back

YANGON, 25 Nov - Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win welcomed back Director of Medical Services of the Ministry of Defence Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han and party who attended the Seventh International Sports Congress in Spain from 19 to 23 November, at Yangon International Airport yesterday.

(9) Minbya Township NLD dissolved

YANGON, 25 Nov - The Executive Committee members and all members of Minbya Township National League for Democracy Rakhine State have tendered their resignations and dissolved the Township NLD out of their own volition on 11 November 1998.

Minbya Township NLD Rakhine State was first formed on 26 December 1988 with 20 EC members. Two of the EC members shifted to other townships and one died leaving 17 Now all EC members of the Township NLD resigned from the party membership out of their own volition since they no longer wish to continue to take part in NLD's political activities. They notified the office of Minbya Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the chairman of the party concerned. On 11 November personnel of the township NLD dissolved it by handing over the signboard, seals and documents to the Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission.

(10) Workshop on Oceanography of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea begins

YANGON, 25 Nov - A ceremony to open the workshop on Oceanography of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea, organized by scientists of Myanmar and India, was held at Yangon University Diamond Jubilee Hall at 1 pm today with an opening speech by Minister for Education U Than Aung.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Education Dr Than Nyunt, Ambassador of the Republic of India, rectors and pro-rectors of the universities and principals in Yangon, officials of Higher Education Department, officials of Ministry of Defence and Tatmadaw (Navy), officials of National Environmental Commission, Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise, Meteorology & Hydrology Department and Fisheries Department.

Rector of Mawlamyine University U Kyi Win presided over the workshop.

Three Indian scholars presented four papers to the workshop.

Two papers by two Indian officials and five papers by five Myanmar officials will be presented to the workshop tomorrow morning.

Altogether five Indian and 27 Myanmar scholars of respective department are taking part in the discussions.
