(1) Prime Minister of Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Sisavath Keobounphanh and Madame Khamla Keobounphan arrive on official visit

YANGON, 23 Nov - At the invitation of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing, Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Sisavath Keobounphanh and Madame Khamla Keobounphanh arrived at Yangon International Airport by special flight at 9.30 am today on an official visit to the Union of Myanmar.

LPDR Prime Minister Mr Sisavath Keobounphanh and Madame Khamla Keobounphanh and delegation were welcomed at the airport by Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye and wife, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and wife, Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and wife, Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun and wife, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla and wife, Minister for, Agriculture Maj-Gen Nyunt a Tin and wife, Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Myanmar Ambassador to LPDR U Sein Win Aung and wife, Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet, Deputy Dean of Diplomatic Corps French Ambassador Mr Bernard Pottier and wife, heads of diplomatic missions and their wives, heads of UN agencies and their wives, LPDR Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Ly Bounkham and wife and embassy staff.

School girls at the airport also greeted the LPDR guests waving miniature flags of the two countries.

(2) Agreements signed between Government of Myanmar & Government of Lao People's Democratic Republic

YANGON, 23 Nov - Agreements between the Government of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic were signed at the Pyithu Hluttaw Building at 4 pm today.

Present were Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Myanmar Ambassador to LPDR U Sein Win Aung and department officials, Prime Minister of LPDR Mr Sisavath Keobounphanh, Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Somsavat Lengsavad, Minister of Commerce and Tourism Mr Phoumi Thipphavone, Vice-Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Mr Sitaheng Rasphone, Vice-Minister of Communication, Transport, Posts and Construction Mr Xay Phakaxoum, Ambassador of LPDR Mr Ly Bounkham and senior officials.

Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Somsavat Lengsavad signed the Agreement between the Government of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports and exchanged documents.

Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aung Thein and Ambassador of LPDR Mr Ly Bounkham then signed the Agreement between Myanma News Agency (MNA) and Khaosan Pathet Lao (KPL).

(3) Secretary-l & wife call on Prime Minister of LPDR and wife

YANGON, 23 Nov - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Khin Win Shwe paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Sisavath Keobounphanh and wife Madame Khamla Keobounphanh at Seinle Kantha State House at 11 am today.

Prime Minister and Madame Keobounphanh were accompanied at the call by Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Somsavat Lengsavad, Minister of Commerce and Tourism Mr Phoumi Thipphavone and Ambassador of LPDR to Myanmar Mr Ly Bounkham and wife.

Together with the Secretary-1 and wife were Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin and wife, Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Ambassador of Myanmar to LPDR U Sein Win Aung and wife and Director-General of the Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet.

(4) Deputy Chief of OSS receives Singaporean military officers

YANGON, 23 Nov - Deputy Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies Deputy Director of Defence Services Intelligence Brig-Gen Kyaw Win received officers of Armed Forces of Singapore who are trainees of the post-graduate course at Temasek Society led by Col Terence Siew Chee Kin at the Tatmadaw Guest House this afternoon.

Present also on the call were Heads of Department of the Office of Strategic Studies Col Thein Swe and Col Kyaw Thein and Staff Officer (Grade-1) Lt-Col Hla Min.

Endeavours for Myanmar's political, economic and social development and anti-drug activities were explained to the guests with the audio-visual aids.

(5) Deputy Prime Minister Chairman of HC Group-LLC (Hong Kong)

YANGON, 23 Nov - Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun met Chairman of HC Group-LLC (Hong Kong) Mr Steven Chi, Vice-Chairman Mr Jim Shultz and Chairman of Services International Co Ltd of Myanmar U Maung Maung Swe Tin and party who called at his office at 11:30 am today.

Also present at the call were officials of the Government's Office.

(6) Japan-Myanmar Well-wishers Association today donated Yen 200,000 to the School for the Blind

YANGON, 23 Nov - Japan-Myanmar Well-wishers Association today donated Yen 200,000 to the School for the Blind of the Social Welfare Department of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

The donation ceremony at the School for the Blind in Panbingyi Street, Kyimyindine Township, was attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Col Maung Pa, Deputy Director of Medical Services Col Aung Naing, Officer on Special Duty at the State Peace and Development Council Office Lt-Col Than Tint, Director of Social Welfare Department U Khin Aung and officials, well-wishers and guests.

On behalf of Japan-Myanmar Well-wishers Association, Mr Mochizuki spoke about the donation.

Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone also spoke about social welfare activities, training of the blind at the school and thanked the donors.

Mr Mochizuki handed Yen 200,000 for the school to Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

The blind students entertained the guests with songs.

(7) Resident Representative of UNDCP calls on Minister for PBANRDA

YANGON, 23 Nov - Resident Representative of UNDCP Mr Richard Dickins called on Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt at his office this afternoon.

They discussed implementation of alternative development programmes in Hotaung region south of Wa region, Laukkai in Kokang region and Namtit of Wa region.

Also present at the call were Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin and officials.

(8) 21 more NLD members resign

YANGON, 23 Nov - Twenty-one members of National League for Democracy of Pantanaw Township, Ayeyawady Division, resigned from the party on 15 November.

As the 21 members, U Saw Oo, U Tin Maung, U Aung Moung, U Kyaw Nyunt, U Aye Win, U Kyaw Swe, U Tun Win, U Tun Kyi, U San Win, U Than Shwe, U Thein Myint, U San Ohn, U Thein Tun, U Aye Than, Mahn Kan Tun, Sa Tin Win, U Saw Wai Lay, U Naing Tin Tun, U San Tun Aung, U Daneil and U Lin Aung, no longer wished to take part in the political activities of NLD, they on their own volition sent letters of resignation to Township Multi-party General Election Commission Office and the party concerned.

(9) Evaluation and Pre-production Meeting for ASEAN in Action V commences

YANGON, 23 Nov - A ceremony to open Evaluation and Pre-production Meeting for ASEAN in Action V was held at Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel this morning.

It was attended by Director-General of ASEAN Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Aye Lwin, Director-General of Myanma Radio and Television U Khin Maung Htay, Deputy Director-General of Information and Public Relations Department U Aung San, directors and deputy directors of departments and enterprises, delegates of ASEAN member nations - U Ko Ko Htwe of Myanmar, Ms Faridha Onn of Singapore, Ms Helen Thu Moi Chin of Brunei, Mr Sangkhane Choumk Hamphanh of LPDR, Mr Chuari Selarnat of Malaysia, Ms Evelyn Agato of the Philippines, Mrs Ampom Somosom of Thailand and Mr TA Quang Dong of Vietnam.

U Aye Lwin and U Khin Maung Htay made speeches.

Then, delegates of the ASEAN member nations together with U Aye Lwin and U Khin Maung Htay posed for documentary photos.

The delegates discussed matters pertaining to radio broadcasting of ASEAN member nations.

In the evening, the delegates visited the Shwedagon Pagoda.
