(1) Senior General Than Shwe looks into border trade at Bhamo (Lweje)

YANGON, 15 Nov - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe inspected border trade activities at Bhamo (Lweje) camp yesterday.

Senior General Than Shwe, accompanied by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Thein Sein, Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo, Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Tin Aung Myint Oo, Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Maj-Gen Soe Win, Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt-Gen Tin Hla, ministers, deputy ministers, heads of department and officials, left Myitkyina yesterday morning by air and arrived at Bhamo at 10 am.

The Senior General and party were greeted by Brig-Gen Win Sein of Bhamo Station, members of the District/ Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental personnel, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and others.

(2) Secretary-2 looks into bridge construction projects in Yangon

YANGON, 15 Nov - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo this morning went on an inspection round of bridge construction projects here.

Accompanied by Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Chief of Staff (Navy) Capt Kyi Min, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Vice-Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander Col Hsan Hsint and officials, the Secretary-2 first visited the construction site of Maha Bandoola Bridge Project across the Pazundaung Creek linking Pazundaung and Dawbon Townships.

The Secretary-2 and party were greeted by Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe, Deputy Minister for Electric Power Brig-Gen Maung Maung and responsible personnel.

(3) Toungoo gets TV retransmission station

YANGON, 15 Nov - A ceremony to commission Toungoo TV Retransmission Station into service was held in the compound of the station on Yangon-Mandalay Highway at Ward-9, Toungoo, this morning.

Present were Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Deputy Commander of Southern Command Brig-Gen Thura Maung Ni and senior military officers, Chairman of District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myo Tint and members, chairman and members of Township Peace and Development Council, secretaries and members of District and Township Union Solidarity and Development Associations, district and township level departmental officials, members of Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigade, students, towns-elders and local people totaling over 5,000.

(4) Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air), well-wishers donate dry rations, alms to Panditayama Sarthintaik in Hline Township

YANGON, 15 Nov - Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers donated dry rations and alms to Panditayama Sarthintaik in Ward 13, Hline Township, this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

The ceremony was also attended by Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, senior military officers, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Vice-Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander Col Hsan Hsint, OSD to Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint and departmental officials, and well-wishers.

Lt-Gen Tin Oo and officials presented offertories to Sayadaws after receiving the Five Precepts from Padana Nayaka Sayadaw Chairman of Township Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Pantida of Panditayama Sarthintaik.

(5) More NLD members resign

YANGON, 15 Nov - Thirty eight members of National League for Democracy of Paung Township resigned from the party on 20 October 1998.

They are: U Sein Aung, U Thein Myint, U Po Naung, U Maung Aye, U Tin Hla, U Tun Yi, U Hla Pe, U Aung Pan Tha, U Win Tin, U Lin Sein, U Htain Hla Win, U Saw Myaing San, U Tun Kyaw, Daw Khin Sein Kyi, U Ba Than, Ma Yin Kyi, U Aung Tin, U Kyaw Nyein, U Hla Ngwe, U Mya Lwin, U Thein Aye, U San Phe, U Na Dei Sar, U Ohn Toe, U Aung Thin, U Tan Bi, U Kyaw Myint, U Kyi Myint, U Tha Htoo Aung, U San Thein, U Soe Tun, U Kon Palai, U Soe Myint, U Zaw Moe, U Than Lwin, U Lwin Aye, U Aung Thein Myint and U Ngwe Htwe.

They notified the Paung Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the respective party chairman saying that they had resigned from the party out of their own volition since they had no longer wish to continue to participate in political activities of NLD.

(6) Lao Foreign Vice-Minister arrives to attend First Meeting of Myanmar Lao Border Authorities at Central Level

YANGON 15 Nov - The Lao delegation led by Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Phongsavath Boupha arrived here by air this evening to attend the First Meeting of the Myanmar-Lao Border Authorities at Central Level.

The delegation was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Ambassador of Myanmar to Laos U Sein Win Aung, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of Lao People's Democratic Republic to Myanmar Mr Ly Bounkham and officials of the Lao Embassy in Yangon.

(7) Minister meets departmental officials in Hmawby Township

YANGON, 15 Nov - Minister Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, accompanied by the heads of department of the Ministry of Labour inspected office of Township Social Security Board and dispensary of SSB, office of Township Factories and General Labour Laws Inspection Department and office of Township Labour Department in Hmawby Township this morning.

Officials presented reports to the minister on their work.

Minister Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe gave instructions to them.

Then, he met officials at the office of Township Labour Department.

The minister explained about the work, political, economic and social situation and left there in the afternoon.

(8) Myanmar Mayflower Bank Ltd opens Mandalay Branch-1

YANGON, 15 Nov - A ceremony to mark the opening of Mandalay Branch-1 of Myanmar Mayflower Bank Ltd was held at Sedona Hotel in Mandalay this morning.

It was attended by Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, Deputy Commander of Central Command Col Nay Win, Mayor of Mandalay Brig-Gen Yan Thein, Chairman of Myanmar Mayflower Bank Ltd U Kyaw Win and members of the board of directors, division-level departmental personnel, officials of the ministry, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and guests.

Minister U Khin Maung Thein said Myanmar Mayflower Bank Ltd, which has already opened 11 branches in cities, is a domestic private bank, and it is providing banking services efficiently with the use of modern equipment and systems.

He noted that the financial sector plays a key role in practicing market-oriented economic system in a country. He stressed the need for private banks to carry out banking services in accord with rules and regulations.

Col Nay Win also made a speech.

U Kyaw Win thanked officials, and presented commemorative pennants to officials.

At the ceremony to open the new building of Mandalay Branch-1 of Myanmar Mayflower Bank Ltd at No 194, 29th street, Chanmyethazan Township, Minister U Khin Maung Thein formally unveiled the signboard of Mandalay Branch-1.

Minister U Khin Maung Thein, Col Nay Win and U Kyaw Win formally opened the new building of Mandalay Branch-1.

Minister U Khin Maung Thein, together with officials of the ministry, also inspected the construction of a new building of Myanmar Economic Bank in Kyaukse yesterday.

(9) Tourists leave on MS Sea Goddess

YANGON, 15 Nov - Tourists from MS Sea Goddess, who arrived here under the arrangement of Myanma Tourism Service under the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and Myanmar Voyages Company, visited Kyaikhmawwun Yele Pagoda and Padagyi Model Village in Kyauktan Township this morning.

They arrived back Nanthida jetty, and MS Sea Goddess with tourists aboard left here at 10.00 am.

On hand to see them off at Nanthida jetty were officials of Myanmar Tourism Service and Myanmar Voyages Company and Inzali Music Band.

(10) First leg of Myanmar London Golf Tour on 19-22 Nov in Mandalay

YANGON, 15 Nov - First leg of Myanmar London Golf Tour sponsored by Myanmar Golf Federation and Professional Golfers Association (PGA Myanmar) will be held at Shwesaryan Golf Club in Mandalay from 19 to 22 November.

Handsome prizes will be presented to winners by Rothmans of Pallmall Myanmar Private Ltd, Yangon Airways, Myit Phyar Ayeyar Hotel and Lucky Family Drinking Water.
