(1)   Senior General Than Shwe inspects Mandalay International Airport Project, industrial zones in Mandalay

YANGON, 12 Nov - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe inspected Mandalay international Airport Project and toured Mandalay yesterday.

He was accompanied by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin, Minister for Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, Director-General of the State Peace and Development Council Office Lt-Col Pe Nyein, departmental heads and officials.

They left Yangon for Mandalay by Tatmadaw aircraft and arrived there at 10 am.

The Senior General and party were welcomed by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of the Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander of the Triangle Region Command Maj-Gen Thein Sein, Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of the Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander of the North-East Command Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of the North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Mandalay Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein, Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Thein Zaw, military and civil officers, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and family members.

The Senior General and party helicoptered to Mandalay International Airport Project in TadaU Township, Mandalay Division, where they were welcomed by Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, Deputy Commander of the Central Command Col Nay Win and officials.

In the project hall, Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint reported to the Senior General on the roads linked with the airport, conditions of the roads, paving of the roads and construction of bridges.

(2)   General Maung Aye receives Bangladesh Foreign Minister

YANGON, 12 Nov - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye received Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mr Abdus Samad Azad and party at Zeyathiri Beikman on Konmyintha at 3 pm today.

Together with General Maung Aye were Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Foreign U Ohn Gyaw and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win.

The Bangladesh delegation was accompanied by Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to Myanmar Mr Jahangir Saadat and Defence Attache Brig-Gen Nasiruddin Sarwar.

(3)   Myanmar and Bangladesh Foreign Ministers hold discussions

YANGON, 12 Nov - Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw and the visiting Bangladesh delegation led by Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Abdus Samad Azad met and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning.

Afterwards, a ceremony to mark the signing of the Treaty between the Government of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on the Demarcation of the Land Section of the Boundary North of the Naaf River was held in the conference hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On behalf of the Government of the Union of Myanmar, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw and on behalf of the Government of People's Republic of Bangladesh, Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Abdus Samad Azad, signed the treaty.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs U Nyunt Swe and U Khin Maung Win, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Myanmar Mr Jahangir Saadat, officials from the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Immigration and Population, the Office of the Attorney-General, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Myanmar Survey Department and members of the Bangladesh delegation.

Myanmar-Bangladesh boundary comprises the Naaf River boundary and the land section of the boundary north of the Naaf River. The Naaf River boundary has been demarcated under an agreement signed in 1966.

In 1979, the Agreement on the Demarcation of the Land Section of the Boundary North of the Naaf River was signed.

Subsequently, the tasks on joint surveying and demarcating as well as erecting of boundary pillars were accomplished in 1984.

The boundary maps were signed between the two countries in 1981 and 1985.

Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw hosted dinner in honour of Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Mr Abdus Samad Azad and party at Manawhari State Guest House this evening.

(4)   Participation of entrepreneurs in the agriculture will increase output of farm produce

YANGON, 12 Nov - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected reclamation of wetlands Nyaungdonkyun and development undertakings in Danubyu Township today.

Accompanied by Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, Chief of Staff (Navy) Capt Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn Myint, Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe and officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and the respective departments, the Secretary-2 left here by car at 7 am today for Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Division.

On arrival in Nyaungdon, they were welcomed by departmental officials.

The commander and officials reported to the Secretary-2 and party on progress in building of a road to Thazinyekyaw wetlands near Zeebyukyun village in the township where the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and Myanmar Billion Group are reclaiming 16,000 acres.

(5)   Defence Services C-in-C's Trophy Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Judo/Gymnastics C'ship concludes

YANGON, 12 Nov - The prize presentation ceremony for the Defence Services Commander-in-Chief's Trophy Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Judo/Gymnastics Championship was held at the National Indoor Stadium 1 in Thuwunna this afternoon.

Present on the occasion were Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Deputy Commander Col Hsan Hsint, Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department Col Hla Myint Kyaw, Adviser to the ministry Col Ngo Ciin Pau, President of Myanmar Football Federation Col Thaung Htaik, Commandant of Defence Services Record Office Commander of No 4 Military Region Col Myo Myint, Commandant of Defence Services General Hospital Col Tin Thein Lwin, Commandant of Central Medical Depot Col Myint Maung, officers and Tatmadawmen of regiments and units under Yangon Command, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association and fans.

Officials presented prizes to the winners.

Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, presented the championship shield to Yangon Command team.

(6)   Mrauk-U Township NLD dissolved

YANGON, 12 Nov - The Executive Committee members and all members of Mrauk-U Township National League for Democracy have tendered their resignations and dissolved the Township NLD out of their own volition on 28 October 1998.

Mrauk-U Township NLD was first formed on 4 December 1988 with 10 EC members but two died. The remaining eight EC members resigned from the party membership out of their own volition since they no longer wished to continue to take part in NLD's political activities. They notified the office of Mrauk-U Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the chairman of the party concerned. On 28 October, personnel of the township NLD dissolved it by handing the signboard, seals, documents over to the Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission according to the law.

(7)   Minister meets Director of OIE of Aia and Pacific Region

YANGON, 12 Nov - Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein met Director Dr Yoshihiro Ozawa and party of OE of Asia and the Pacific Region who called at his office this afternoon.

Also present were Deputy Minister U Aung Thein, directors-general and managing directors of departments and enterprises under the ministry.

(8)   Deputy Minister meets Commissioner of Korea Industrial Property Office (KIPO)

YANGON, 12 Nov - Deputy Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Brig-Gen Zaw Tun met Commissioner Dr Soo Dong Kim and party of Korea Industrial Property Office (KIPO)of Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea, accompanied by Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Mr Kyong Bo Choi, who called at his office at 9 am today.

They discussed progress of Myanma economy, arrangements to guard against the effects of Asia monetary crisis, economic development of ROK being undertaken by KIPO and technical cooperation between Myanmar and ROK.

Also present were officials of the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development.

(9)   Japanese gifts for MBF

YANGON, 12 Nov - Executive of Japanese Boxing Federation Mr Iwamoto Iroshi presented sports equipment worth US $ 2,000 to Myanmar Boxing Federation today.

Mr Shui Chisato and Mr Kansuki Koyoki also presented K 300,000 to the Ministry of Sports.

Director-General of the Sports and Physical Education Department Col Hla Myint Kyaw accepted the donations in the meeting hall at Aung San Stadium.

Col Hla Myint Kyaw and President of MBF U Win Myint thanked them.
