(1) Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt stresses importance of uplifting spirit of athletes

YANGON, 10 Nov - Chairman of Myanmar National Olympic Council Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt addressed the graduation ceremony of the Sports Diploma Course No 5 of the Institute of Sports and Physical Education, Ministry of Sports, this morning and presented prizes to outstanding trainees.

Also present on the occasion were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Industry-I U Aung Thaung, Minster for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister at the Office of the trainees and teachers and students of Sports and Education combined Training School.

(2) Measures coordinated to boost marine production and develop markets

YANGON, 10 Nov - A coordination meeting on boosting production of marine products and market development was held at the meeting hall of Fisheries Department this afternoon, with an address by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Present were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut, Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun, Deputy Minister for Rail Transportation Thura U Thaung Lwin, Officer on Special Duty at the Office of the fisheries entrepreneurs and guests.

(3) Medicines, toys, funds donated to MMCWA

YANGON, 10 Nov - A ceremony to donate medicines, toys and funds to Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association by well-wishers was held at MMCWA building at the comer of Parami Road and Thanthuma Road of South Okkalapa Township at 11.30 am today.

Present on the occasion were Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson, Dr Khin Win Shwe, Central Executive Committee members and well-wishers.

Today's donations include toys worth K 100,000 for Children's All-round Development Department of MMCWA donated by U Aung Naing Thu-Daw San San Yi of Super One, on behalf of Super One family, K 500,000 by Managing Director U Win Lwin of Kyaw Tha Company to mark fifth anniversary of Kyaw Tha Company, medicine worth US $ 1,080 by U Thein Hla-Daw May Thet, on behalf of American Vision family, for maternity units of MMCWA and K 500,000 for Kachin State MCWA Supervisory Committee by Managing Director U Maung Aye of KTK Industries and General Trading Cooperative Ltd.

Chairperson Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe and Vice-Chairperson Dr Khin Win Shwe accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to the well-wishers.

Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe made a speech thanking the well-wishers.

(4) Minister stresses need to exceed production targets at oil, gas fields

YANGON, 10 Nov - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi inspected Kyaukkhwet-Letpando oil and gas field in Myaing Township on 7 November.

Project Director U Kyi Shein briefed him on drilling of wells in Kyaukkhwet-Letpando and Ayadaw oil fields, and future programmes.

The next day, the minister visited NO 2 Fertilizer Plant (Kyunchaung) and coordinated with officials means to repair machines and to strive for running the plant at full capacity.

Accompanied by officials, he inspected drilling of well NO 455 in Ayadaw gas field.

At Chauk oil field, the minister heard a report on repair of old wells and daily output of oil and gas at the field presented by an official.

Brig-Gen Lun Thi sought means to strive to exceed production targets and to minimize loss and wastage.

The minister and party inspected well NO CDT-11 which is producing daily 2.7 million cubic feet and 18 barrels of condensate up from only 0.06 cubic feet of gas per day in the past.

At No 1 Fertilizer Plant (Sale), he heard a report on production capacities of the two divisions of the plant presented by Managing Director of Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise U Kyaw Shein.

At Yenangyaung oil field, the minister inspected the works being carried out to repair the wells which were destroyed during the World War II.

Director U Sein Hlaing reported to him about crude oil production of the field.

The minister stressed the need to strive to exceed the targets and to minimize spillage.

(5) Minister meets President of CICC

YANGON, 10 Nov - Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha met President of Centre of the International Cooperation for Computerization (CICC) Mr Takuma Yamamoto who called at his office at 4.30 pm today.

Also present at the call were officials of the ministry.

(6) Bilin Township NLD dissolved

YANGON, 10 Nov - The Executive Committee members and all members of Bilin Township National League for Democracy tendered their resignations and dissolved the Township NLD on 9 November 1998.

Bilin Township NLD was first formed in 1989 with 15 EC members but the number was reduced considerably due to death, resignations and other reasons. The Executive Committee was reconstituted again with 21 members in December 1996.

The EC members resigned from the party membership out of their own volition since they no longer wished to continue to take part in NLD's political activities.

They notified the office of Bilin Township Multi party Democracy General Election Commission and the chairman of the party concerned. On 9 November afternoon, personnel of the Township NLD disbanded it by handing the flag, seals and documents over to the Township Multi-party Democracy General Election Commission at Office according to Law.

(7) Singapore-Myanmar specialists jointly perform orthopaedic operations

YANGON, 10 Nov - Visiting orthopaedist Dr Yeo Seng Jin and members of Singapore General Hospital and Commandant of Defence Services Orthopaedic Hospital (500-bed) Col Than Myint and specialists jointly performed surgical operations on patients at the operation theatre of the hospital this morning.

Director of Medical Services of the Ministry of Defence and orthopaedic specialists observed the operations.

Later, the commandant thanked the Singaporean specialists and presented certificates of honour and gifts to them.

(8) Myanmar-Japan Bilateral Conference on Information Technology Cooperation continues

YANGON, 10 Nov - Myanmar-Japan Bilateral Conference on Information Technology Cooperation continued for the second day today at the International Business Centre.

Secretary of Myanmar Computer Science Development Council Deputy Minister for Science and Technology U Hlaing Win, President of Centre of the International Co-operation for Computerization (CICC) Mr Takuma Yamamoto, Executive Director Mr Yamazaki and members and chairmen and Executives of Myanmar Computer Federation, Myanmar Computer Scientists Association and Myanmar Computer Industries Association were present.

Papers on IT Policy Prospects in Myanmar, Development of Electronic Industry in Japan, Current Status and Prospect of Application of IT in Myanmar, IT Society to 21st, Current Status and Prospect of IT Industry in Myanmar and Japan, IT Cooperation in Asia Future were presented at the conference.

Representatives sought means on bilateral information technology cooperation at the panel discussions.

Five candidates have been selected to attend a computer course in Japan beginning January 1999 under CICC assistance. CICC scholarships for 1999-2000 can be applied through MCF.

Thirteen computers were presented through Chairman of MCSDC Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt to MCF.

They will be installed at Resource Centre which will be opened by MCIA soon at Institute of Computer Science and Technology (Yangon).

(9) Minister for Commerce meets managing Director of M/S Myanmar-Bangladesh Fisheries Ltd

YANGON, 10 Nov - Minister Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, together with Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, visited the Workers Hospital on Kyaikkasan Road, Tarmway Township, this morning.

They were welcomed there by the medical superintendent, specialists, medical staff and nurses.

The minister gave instructions, and elaborated on political, economic and social situations.

Then, the deputy minister urged all to discharge their duties with political, economic, social and administrative outlooks.

Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe heard reports on the background, history of the hospital and on expenses and funds for construction of a new annexe presented by Medical Superintendent U Kyaw Hein and Chairman of Social Security Board U Aung Ba Kyi respectively.

The minister inspected patients the wards and spoke words of encouragement to patients.

He also inspected patients wards, X-ray unit and eye test unit at the new annexe.

Then, the minister proceeded to the social security board clinic, office and medicine warehouses in Ahlon Township.

He inspected the storage of medicine and gave instructions.
