(1) Cardiovascular X-ray System presented by Yokogawa Co of Japan to MMCWA

YANGON, 7 Nov - A ceremony for presentation of Cardiovascular X-ray System to Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association by Yokogawa Co of Japan was held at the Multi-purpose Building of MMCWA at the corner of Thanthuma Road and Parami Road in South Okkalapa Township this afternoon, attended by Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present were Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin, Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai, officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, honorary members of the Panel of Patrons of MMCWA, Chairperson Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairpersons Dr Khin Win Shwe and Dr Kyi Soe members of the Executive Committee and specially invited guests.

On behalf of donor Dr Mikito Seto of Yokogawa Co of Japan, Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han handed over related documents to Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe.

Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han explained the purpose of the donation.

Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe said truly as being a non-governmental organization, Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association is effectively and extensively carrying out tasks related to health, education and social fields, and added the step-by step improvement of welfare activities of the association can be attributed to encouragement of the Government, efforts of members of the association and contribution of well-wishers.

She noted that the purpose of donating the valuable Cardiovascular X-ray System is to effectively treat cardiac patients; a committee will be set up with a view to successfully realizing the purpose; and Cardiovascular X-ray System will he available to all the people at any time.

She expressed her belief that as physicians will have an opportunity to use it, it will be of benefit to both the physicians and the patients; and it will also become a special facility for cardiac patients.

She said that personnel and associations that will take part in realizing the purpose, will work for the interests of patients out of noble goodwill, not for their benefits.

Then, she thanked the donors.

(2) Secretary-1 views displays of Exhibition to Revitalize and Foster Patriotic Spirit

YANGON, 7 Nov - Patron of Organizing Committee for Exhibition to Revitalize and Foster Patriotic Spirit Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt viewed the displays and exhibits of Exhibition '98-To Revitalize and Foster Patriotic Spirit at Tatmadaw Convention Hall this afternoon.

Accompanied by of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt arrived at the hall at 2 pm today.

They were welcomed there by Chairman of the Organizing Committee Minister for Information Maj Gen Kyi Aung, the deputy ministers, the Vice-Mayor, members of Leading Committee and sub-committees.

The Secretary-1 watched a play featuring King Thibaw being taken away by the British colonialists enacted by members of Shwepyitha Township Thabin Asiayon and made a presentation to them.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt Gen Khin Nyunt also viewed booths of the central showroom, the Pre-Independence Period, the Post-Independence Period, the Contemporary Period and the Ministries showrooms, the cartoons, the books and the computer room.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 viewed the exhibits illustrating the civil colonial administration, the colonial exploitation, and patriotism being suppressed in the colonial period presented by Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon.

(3) Secretary-1 inspects arrangements for offering Magaikdaw and Salwedaw to Maha Zeya Atulamarazein Bronze Buddha Image

YANGON, 7 Nov - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt this afternoon inspected arrangements for offering Magaiktaw and Salwedaw to Maha Zeya Atulamarazein Bronze Buddha Image.

Accompanied by Vice Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Col Hsan Hsint and officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt arrived at the Maha Zeya Atulamarazein Bronze Buddha Image in Gyatawya Street in Bahan Township at 2.45 pm.

The Secretary-1 paid homage to the Maha Zeya Atulamarazein Bronze Buddha Image.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt then inspected arrangements for offering Magaikdaw and Salwedaw to Maha Zeya Atulamarazein Bronze Buddha Image.

Officials reported to the Secretary-1 on the progress of work.

The Secretary-1 gave instructions to them.

(4) Secretary-2 visits Cooperative Fair (Yangon)

YANGON, 7 Nov - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo visited the Cooperative Fair (Yangon) at Asia Plaza at the corner of Seikkantha Street and Bogyoke Aung San Road this afternoon.

Accompanied by Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo and officials, and arriving at Asia Plaza at 2.15 pm, the Secretary-2 was welcomed by Patron of Leading Committee for Cooperative Fair Minister for Cooperative U Aung San, Vice-Quartermaster-General Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, Chairman of Leading Committee for Cooperative Fair Director-General of Cooperatives Department U Maung Hti and officials.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party visited the shops and other displays at the Cooperative Fair.

A total of 174 shops from the cooperative societies and ministries are open daily till on 11 November at the fair.

Commodities worth over K 14.66 million, FEC 224 and US $ 86 were sold from 2 to 6 November at the cooperative fair.

(5) Secretary-2 attends donation of dry rations and funds to monasteries by Tatmadaw families & well-wishers

YANGON, 7 Nov - A ceremony for donation of today's rations and funds to Pariyatti Saddhamma Pala Aung-mye-bon-tha Shankyaung of Ward 4, Mayangon Township, by families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers was held at the Kyaungtaik today, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Also present on the occasion were Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, senior officers of the Ministry of Defence, Officer on Special Duty at the Office of State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint, Joint-Secretary Col Myint Aung of Yangon City Development Committee, departmental officials and well-wishers.

Padana Nayaka Sayadaw of Pariyatti Saddhammapala Aungmyebontha Shankyaung Bhaddanta Sundra administered the Five Precepts.

(6) More NLD members resign

YANGON, 7 Nov - Twenty-two members of National League for Democracy of Myitkyina Township resigned from the party on 30 September 1998.

They are: U Zon Tein, Daw Lakwam Khong Sai, Daw Swam Lut Lu, U Lam Nawdi, Dati Yuhsi, U Ar nagi, U Phu Redwe, U Sipa Hsi, U Dihuhe, U Kya Re Phu, Daw Himaja, U Artibaw, U Asi Sha, U Ngwa Za Yaw, U Tin Tun, Daw Na Ma Bo, U Si Arnu, U Htu Ar Re, U Ar Phu Bya Re Shi, U Ran Hsa, Taung Ta and U DR Jil.

They notified the Myitkyina Township Multi-party Democracy General Election Commission Office and the respective party chairman saying that they had resigned from the party out of their own volition since they had no desire to carry out political activities of NLD.

(7) Bo Myat Tun Bridge Project in Nyaungdon to be completed six months earlier

YANGON, 7 Nov - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig Gen Thura Aye Myint and officials, inspected Bo Myat Tun Bridge Project in Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Division, yesterday.

Deputy Chief Engineer U Pe Than reported to him on progress of work in implementation of the project.

After hearing reports, the minister said the bridge is being built simultaneously on both sides of the river and it is scheduled for completion six months earlier.

He gave instructions on work-site safety and effective Supervision.

The minister and party later inspected the completed approach roads, approach structures and piers, and installation of steel beams.

The bridge, altogether 8,544 feet long spanning the Ayeyawady River, will have 28-foot-wide motor-way, and six-foot-wide pedestrian lane on each side.

(8) Respects paid to faculty members of MMA Yangon Branch (Women's Chapter)

YANGON, 7 Nov - The Myanmar Medical Association Yangon Branch (Women's Chapter) held the 16th respects paying ceremony at MMA building on Theinbyu Road this morning.

Present on the occasion were Patron of MMA Yangon Branch (Women's Chapter) Dr Khin Win Shwe, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, Deputy Minister for Industry-1 Col Than Zin, Director of Medical Services of the Ministry of Defense Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, faculty members, chairperson of MMA and executives and guests.

Chairperson of MMA Yangon Branch (Women's Chapter) Dr Yi Yi H1a spoke on the occasion.

After the ceremony, Dr Khin Win Shwe presented K 10,000 to lucky draw winner Sayagyi U Thein Htaik.

Deputy ministers Dr Mya Oo and Col Than Zin, Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, chairperson of MMA and executives and members paid respects with gifts to 105 over-70 aged persons.

Sayagyi U Kan Nyunt, on behalf of the elders, gave a speech.

(9) Mass Education Golden Jubilee observed

YANGON, 7 Nov - A ceremony to observe Mass Education Golden Jubilee was held at Hninzigon Home for the Aged on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road in Bahan Township this morning, addressed by Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone.

Also present were retired officers of the Mass Education Council, public education officers, the Director General of the Social Welfare Department and guests.

Chairman of the Committee for Observance of Mass Education Golden Jubilee Secretary of the Administrative Board of Hnin zigon Home for the Aged U Aung Than made an opening speech.
