(7)   Attitude of political parties

Twenty national race groups which made peace with the government have already issued declarations on their attitude in connection with the call of the National League for Democracy to convene the Hluttaw.

Similarly, political parties legally in existence are issuing declarations on their respective attitudes in connection with the call of the National League for Democracy to convene the Hluttaw and they will be made public.

Today, a translation of the declaration on the attitude of Mro (a) Khami National Unity Organization released on 26-10-99 states as follows:

Mro (a) Khami National Unity Organization
Kyauistaw, Rakhine State

Subject:    Declaration on the attitude of the Mro (a) Khami National Unity Organization of Kyauktaw, Rakhine State,
in connection with the acts of the National League for Democracy
Dated: 26-10-98

1. Mro (a) Khami National Unity Organization issues the following declaration on its attitude in connection with the declaration No 58 (9/98) issued on 16-9-98 by the NLD.

2. Our party is desirous of progress of all the national races including Mro (a) Khami nationals and Rakhine nationals residing in Rakhine State. The ruling Tatmadaw government is carrying out tasks within the framework of law and at the same time striving for the all-round development of States and Divisions including border areas to establish a genuine democratic nation.

3. Efforts made for the establishment of a genuine democratic nation and bringing about all-round national development are delayed and dimmed due to the acts of NLD to obstruct all undertakings of the Tatmadaw government. The NLD is said to be attempting to call the Pyithu Hluttaw and form the Pyithu Hluttaw representative committee with the pretension that other parties/organizations have supported their acts of opposition.

4. Mro (a) Khami National Unity Organization does not in any way support the acts of the NLD which is hindering national progress. It does not support the NLD's formation of the Pyithu Hluttaw representative committee and call for the convening of the Pyithu Hluttaw. It will support only the programme of building a genuine democratic nation through convening of the National Convention by the Tatmadaw government.
