(1)   Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing attend 9th communal Kathina robes offering ceremony of Defence Services Intelligence

YANGON, 25 Oct - The 9th communal Kathina robes offering ceremony of the Directorate of Defence Services Intelligence was held at the Tatmadaw Dhammayon on Arzarni Road here this morning.

Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing presented Kathina robes and offertories to members of the Sangha.

Present were State Ovadacariya Sayadaws, member Sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee led by Chairman Abhidhaja Maha Ratha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Myingyanmyo Koehsaung Taik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye and wife, Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Office of the Strategic Studies and Director of Defence Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, members of the State Peace and Development Council and their wives, Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt-Gen Tin Tun and their wives, Ministers, the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General, the Auditor-General, the Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board, the Yangon Mayor, senior military officers, the deputy ministers, heads of departments, guests, Tatmadawmen of DDSI and Intelligence Units and their families.

The congregation received the Five Precepts from Myingyanmyo Koehsaung Taik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita. Next, members of the Sangha recited parittas.

Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing presented Kathina robes to Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Ratha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara and robes and offertories to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita.

Afterwards, General Maung Aye and wife, Secretary- I Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt-Gen Tin Tun and their wives and guests presented robes and offertories to members of the Sangha.

Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara then delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

'Soon' was offered to the members of the Sangha after the ceremony.

(2)   U Hla Tun Hospice (Cancer) Association established with K l0m initial fund, cash donations

YANGON, 25 Oct - Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt addressed the ceremony to mark the establishment of U Hla Tun Hospice (Cancer) Association at Inya Lake Hotel here at 6 pm today.

Also present on the occasion were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than. Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt-Gen Tin Tun, ministers, senior Tatmadaw officers, deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, Chairman of the U Hla Tun Hospice (Cancer) Association U Hla Tun, CPA and Financial consultant, Executive Committee members, association members and guests.

First, U Hla Tun, donor of K 10 million initial fund and founder of the association, explained the aims and work programmes of the association.

Next, Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Maung Maung presented the licence and company registration certificate to U Hla Tun.

U Hla Tun then handed K 10 million as initial fund of the association to Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel.

U Hla Tun also donated K 200,000 to be used in the tasks of the National Health Committee. He also donated K 50,000 each to the central welfare fund of the Ministry of Home Affairs, to that of the Ministry of Health to that of the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development, to the welfare fund of the Myanmar Investment Commission, to Than Myan Thu disabled Tatmadaw members, to the Directorate of Medical Services, to No I Defence Services General Hospital, to No 2 Military Hospital, to Myanmar Olympic Committee, to Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, to Investment and Companies Administration Department, to the blind youths of Mayangon, to Leprosy Hospital of Mandalay (Yenatha), to Leprosy Hospital of Mawlamyine (Taungwaing), to Jivitadana Sangha Hospital and to the central welfare fund of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office.

(3)   Secretary-1 attends Dipavali Festival commemorative ceremony

YANGON, 25 Oct - A ceremony to commemorate the Dipavali Festival organized by All-Myanmar Hindu Religious Organization was held at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street here at 2 pm today and Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the oil lamp.

Also present on the occasion were Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Ambassadors of India and Nepal, the chairman and personnel of All-Myanmar Hindu Religious Organization, the chairman and members of the Festival Organizing Committee and Hindu faithful.

First, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt lighted the oil lamp.

The Secretary-1 was then presented traditional yellow wrap and a garland.

Next, Chairman of the Organizing Committee Dr DB Limbu and Chairman of Hindu Religious Organization Shri G S Sharma delivered welcoming speeches

Vice-Chairman of the Organizing Committee U Ba Ni explained the aim of the festival.

This was followed by an address of Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa.

Hindu faithful then sang a religious song.

Traditional Hindu variety dances were then presented.

Secretary of the Organizing Committee U Kyaw Myint then thanked the guests.

(4)   Tatmadaw families & well-wishers donate rice, edible oil to Myanmar Christian Fellowship of the Blind (Khawegyan)

YANGON, 25 Oct - Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families and well-wishers donated rice, edible oil, peas, salt and medicines to Myanmar Christian Fellowship of the Blind (Khawegyan) and the Japanese Government and the people and well-wishers donated cash for construction of new five-storey building at the school this evening, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Present were member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Officer on Special Duty at the State Peace and Development Council Office Lt-Col Than Tint, Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai, Reverend U Tun Gon Gyi of Myanmar Christian Fellowship of the Blind and officials, guests and blind students.

The Ambassador of Japan spoke on the occasion.

Next, the ambassador and Principal of the school Daw Rose David signed a contract to construct new building.

The Japanese Government and the people donated US $ 84,700 for construction of the building under the grassroots grant programme of Japan.

The ambassador then presented the cash to Secretary-General of Myanmar Christian Fellowship of the Blind U Thein Lwin.

Well-wisher Daw Hla Hla Khaing of Insein Township also handed documents related to 1.5 acres of land in Shwepyitha Township for Home for Aged for the Blind and the Disabled Blind to U Thein Lwin.

Well-wishers presented cash for construction of the new building through the Secretary-2 and officials.

Donations were K 100,000 by Yangon Myoma Church; K 150,000 by Thanksgiving Church; K 15,000 by Naw Thein Shwe; K 20,000 by U Ding Wa Daw Nan Nwe; K 904,340 by 44 well-wishers; K 50,000 by engineer In charge U Than Sein Tun of Grace Construction; K 20,000 by engineers group of Grace Construction; K 50,000 by U Aung Tin-Daw Kyin Hla; K 20,000 by U Thein Lwin-Daw Than Hla; K 20,000 by Tun Win and wife; K 5,000 by U Than Tun Aye-Daw Khin Hnin May; K 25,000 by Yvonne Ba Myaing; K 20,000 by Christ Executive Board; K 2,000 by Yuwady Khin Sein Hlaing and K 30,000 by U S Mozet.

Next, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Vice Adjutant General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo presented rice to U Tun Gon Gyi.

Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, YCDC, Yangon West District and Mayangon Township Peace and Development Council and other well-wishers presented 70 bags of rice, 20 viss of edible oil, 200 viss of iodized salt, 200 packets of oral rehydration salt, 15 boxes of salt, a bag of pea and 50 bottles of traditional medicines to officials.

Executive Engineer Daw Tin Win, Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein, Patron of Committee for Construction of new building U Khin Shwe reported on construction, finance and progress of work.

Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than also made speeches.

Chairman of Myanmar Christian Fellowship of the Blind U Hla Lwin thanked the donors.

The Secretary-2 and party inspected the construction of the building.

(5)   Tatmadaw families and well-wishers donate rice, edible oil and salt to Hninsigon Home for the Aged

YANGON, 24 Oct - The families of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers donated rice, edible oil and salt to Hninsigon Home for the Aged in Ward 2, Bahan Township, yesterday.

Present were Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister at the Office of Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Chief of Staff (Navy) Capt Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, Director of Signals Col Aung Myint, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Vice-Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander Col Hsan Hsint, Officer on Special Duty at the State Peace and Development Council Office Lt-Col Than Tint and officials, executive of Board of Trustees of the Home for the Aged and well-wishers.

Chairman of Yangon Division Sangha Nayaka Committee Padana Nayaka Sayadaw of Cindarama Sarthintaik Bhaddanta Kossala administered the Five Precepts.

The Secretary-2 and officials donated offertories to the Sayadaws.

Capt Kyi Min, Col Myint Swe and Brig-Gen Maung Nyo presented rice to Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Home for the Aged U Maung Tin.

Yangon City Development Committee and other well wishers donated 77 bags of rice, 20 viss of edible oil, one bag of gram, 200 viss of iodized salt, 20 tubes of tooth paste, 75 bottles of indigenous medicines and 200 bags of oral rehydration salt and cash to the Home for the Aged.

Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kos-sala delivered a sermon. The congregation then shared merit gained.

YANGON, 24 Oct - A ceremony to open Parami Bank Branch of Asia Wealth Bank Ltd was held at the bank branch, No 4-B, Parami Road, Mayangon Township, this morning.

Present were Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minster for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun, Governor of Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung, officials of the Ministry of Finance and Revenue and members of Union Solidarity and Development Association.

Minister U Khin Maung Thein and Vice-Chairman of AWB Ltd U Aik Tun formally opened the bank branch.

Later, U Aik Tun expressed his thanks for all present there.

(7)   Minister inspects construction of sugar mills and reservoirs in Bago and Mandalay Divisions

YANGON, 25 Oct - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin and officials inspected production process, storage of spare parts and electrical equipment and sugar warehouses at Yedashe Sugar Mill in Bago Division on 23 October.

The minister inspected construction of buildings and installation of equipment at Myohla Sugar Mill Project and construction of buildings at Taungzinaye Sugar Mill Project in Lewe Township.

The minister and party inspected construction at Hsinthay Reservoir Project site near Maizalikyin Village in Tatkon Township.

The minister inspected construction of Paunglaung Reservoir Multi-Purpose Project in Pyinmana Township.

Director of Irrigation Department U Kyaw San Win reported on construction of the main dam and the spillway.

Project Manager of Myanma Electric Power Enterprise U Wan Kyi reported on construction of the diversion tunnel and underground work and 230 KV power sub-station.

The minister then inspected the site.

Paunglaung Reservoir is 3,100 feet long and 430 feet high. Its capacity is 560,000 acre feet and the reservoir can irrigate 43,000 acres of farmland.

(8)   Ninth MPF Myanmar Thaing, Karatedo and Taekwondo Contest held

YANGON, 25 Oct - The Ninth Myanmar Police Force Director-General's Championship Trophy Myanmar Thaing, Karatedo and Taekwondo Contest was held at Kyaikkasan Gymnasium today.

Deputy Director-General of MPF Police Brig-Gen Hla Tun delivered an address and gave away prizes.

Also present were MPF Chief of Staff Police Brig-Gen Zaw Win, MPF Adjutant-General Police Brig-Gen Nyo Thein, senior police officers and guests.

No 9 Police Battalion team won the championship trophy in Myanmar thaing event, Yangon Division MPF in karatedo event, No 5 Police Battalion in taekwondo event.

(9)   Minister discusses increased cultivation & purchase of Thale industrial fibre in Shan State

YANGON 25 Oct - Minister for Industry- I U Aung Thaung and Commander of Eastern Command Brig-Gen Maung Bo attended a coordination meeting on purchase of Thale fibre, an industrial raw material which is essential for manufacturing high grade pulp and newsprint, in the Shan State Meeting Hall in Taunggyi in southern Shan State at noon yesterday.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Myint Thein, Managing Director of Myanma Paper and Chemical Enterprise U Zaw Sein Win and officials, the chairmen of Township Peace and Development Councils of Mongkai, Kunhing, Maukmai, Mongnai, Mongyu and Mongshu Townships, executives of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and officials of the Forest Department.

Speaking at the meeting, U Aung Thaung said the Thale fibre plants thrive well in Shan State and his meeting with the local authorities was to discuss increased cultivation and purchase of the industrial material which is vital for manufacturing high grade paper and newsprint.

The Ministry of Industry-1, he said, has tried to produced Import-substitute products to supply newsprint returned by the State owned newspapers.

He then called for increased cultivation of the fibre plants to fulfil the national needs and create new jobs for the national races in the area.

Commander Brig-Gen Maung Bo also discussed cultivation of the plants and purchase of the industrial raw material.

A Forest Department official and Mongkai Township Peace and Development Council Chairman U Tun Oo briefed the minister and the commander on the process of making local paper.

The minister and the commander then inspected the fibre and locally-made paper.
