(1) Ayeyawady Division to put over 3.2m acres under monsoon paddy

YANGON, 10 Sept - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin inspected monsoon paddy cultivation and the work at jute mills in Ayeyawady Division on 8 September.

Ayeyawady Division has projected to put over 3.2 million acres under monsoon paddy this year.  Over 3.1 million acres have been put under paddy in the division till 7 September.  The division is now preparing to start cultivating the second monsoon paddy on harvested fields.  It puts land twice under monsoon paddy annually.

Accompanied by officials, the minister inspected storage of jute at a jute mill of Myanma Jute Industries in Myaungmya Township in the morning.

He oversaw work at pulping division, machinery division, jute separation division, preparation division, spinning division, spindling division, looming division, quality checking division, workshop, lathe division, spare parts manufacturing division, storage division and gunny bag division.

At a jute packaging factory in the township, the minister inspected jute spreading and baling and quality of products.

During his visit to Myaungmya Agriculture School, he met teachers and students.

At Kyonwa village, he met farmers and transplanters at work, coordinating means to boost monsoon paddy cultivation.

On arrival at Einme Township, he observed paddy threshing at a farm near Takaw village.

The minister met members of Union Solidarity and Development Association in Einme and Kyaunggor townships.

In the evening, he inspected storage of water at a dam on Bawdi village in Pantanaw Township to cultivate summer paddy.

(2) Yangon Mayor receives Ambassador of Israel

YANGON, 10 Sept - Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay received Ambassador of Israel Mr Gad Nathan at the Mayor's Parlor at 9 am today.

Present were Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Joint-Secretary U Kyi Win, committee members U Aung Soe, Col Thaung Wai and Col Tin Soe, heads of departments who are members of Foreign Relations and Investment Group and officials.

(3) K 100,000 for USDA AGM

YANGON, 10 Sept - Altogether 663 personnel of departments and enterprises under the Ministry of Industry-2 collectively presented USDA applications this afternoon hailing the Annual General Meeting of Union Solidarity and Development Association.

The ministry also presented K 100,000 to the association.

Secretariat of USDA Mayor U Ko Lay spoke.

The ceremony at the ministry was also attended by Member of the Panel of USDA Patrons Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Deputy Minister for U Thein Tun, directors-general, managing directors, executives of Yangon Division USDA, executives of Yankin, Mayangon and Hline Township USDAs and departmental personnel.

Head of Office U Chit Lwin presented the cash to executive of Yangon Division USDA U Tha Win.

Officials of the ministry presented the applications to executives of Division USDA and the respective Township USDAs.

Those present took the oath of USDA.

(4) Three exchange arms for peace

YANGON, 10 Sept - Realizing that their long-year destructive acts did not benefit the nation at all and understanding the genuine goodwill and correct endeavours of the government, remaining armed groups have been exchanging arms for peace individually or in groups.

Pvts Maung Naing, Than Htaik and Than Soe bringing together with one M-16, one short magazine and six rounds of ammunition of Burma Communist Party (Myeik-Dawei Alliance Front) exchanged arms for peace at Coastal Region Command Headquarters on 2 August evening.

Officials welcomed them and fulfilled their requirements.

(5) Billboard put up to hail USDA Annual General Meeting

YANGON, 10 Sept - A billboard was put up on 73rd Street Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay, on 8 September morning as a gesture hailing 1998 Annual General Meeting of Union Solidarity and Development Association.

Present on the occasion were Patron of Mandalay Division USDA Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Mayor of Mandalay Brig-Gen Yan Thein, civilian and military officials, Secretary U Tin Maung Oo and executives of Mandalay Division USDA, members of USDA, Red Cross, Auxiliary Fire Brigade and students totaling over 1,000.

Outstanding trainee of new generation marine course Ma Hnin Yi Yi Win and outstanding trainee of new generation aviation course Ma Moe Thanda formally unveiled the bill-board "Hailing 1998 USDA Annual General Meeting".

(6) Medicines, medical equipment for YGH

YANGON, 10 Sept - Partners in Progress, an organization of the United States of America donated medicines and medical equipment worth $ 126,150 to Yangon General Hospital this morning.

At the donation ceremony held at YGH, Mr Kenneth Fox, Country Director of Partners in Progress, explained the purpose of the donation to officials.

Director-General of Health Department Dr Hla Myint thanked the donor and presented a certificate of honour.

Also present were Medical Superintendent Dr Tsik Wan and professors of YGH and officials of the Ministry of Health.

(7)   Ambassador of Korea calls on Deputy Minister for Information

YANGON, 10 Sept - Ambassador of Republic of Korea Mr Kyong Bo Choi called on Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein at the office of the Ministry of Information at 9.30 am today.

Present were Director-General U Khin Maung Htay of Myanma Radio and Television, Director-General U Chit Naing of Information and Public Relations Department, Managing Director U Than Maung of Printing and Publishing Enterprise Managing Director U Tin Kha of News and Periodicals Enterprise, Managing Director Col Bo Kyi of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise, Chief Editor U Kyaw Min of the New Light of Myanmar Daily and Head of Office U Khin Maung Myint.

(8)   Cash, cupboards, medicines for ISPE

YANGON, 10 Sept - Panel of Patrons of Myanmar Women's Sports Federation donated cupboards, cash and medicines to the Institute of Sports and Physical Education this afternoon.

Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win attended the donation ceremony held at the institute.

Also present were Secretary of MOC Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department Col Hla Myint Kyaw, Chairperson Dr Khin Win Shwe and members of the Panel of Patrons of MWSE, Principal of ISPE U Kyaw Soe Myint, officials and well-wishers.

Dr Khin Win Shwe explained the purpose of the donation.

Afterwards, she handed 150 cupboards for ISPE worth K 450,000 to Minister Brig-Gen Sein Win.

The minister presented a certificate of honour to Dr Khin Win Shwe and then accepted other donations from well-wishers.

The donations included Xonce tablets worth K 35.000 donated by Member of Panel of Patrons of MWSF Daw Khin Cho Oo, five wall clocks worth K 15,000 by Member Daw Khin Thein Yi, K 300,000 by Member Daw Aye Aye Tint and Coramin tonic worth K 50,000 and cash amounting to K 50,000 by U Myat Thin Aung and Daw Myint Myint of Aung Aung Enterprise Ltd.

The minister thanked the donors.

(9)   Tamway INRD issues NRCs, donate cash to Township USDA

YANGON, 10 Sept - Hailing the Annual General Meeting of Union Solidarity and Development Association 1998, the ceremonies to issue national registration cards and to donate cash to Tamway Township USDA were held at the township USDA office, 335, Banyadala Street, this afternoon.

Present were Executive of Yangon Division USDA U Min Thein, Township Immigration and National Registration Department Officer U Htay Lwin and officials, Secretary of Township USDA Daw Le Le Win Swe, executives and donors.

First, Daw Le Le Win Swe and U Htay Lwin spoke on the occasion.

Then, U Htay Lwin presented 536 NRCs to U Win Maw of Township USDA.

Daw Le Le Win Swe accepted K 3,000 donated by Township INRD Officer U Htay Lwin, K 7,000 by U Soe Myint of SKM Company and K 10,000 by U Tin Pe-Daw Cherry, 37, 167th Street, Tamwaygyi B Ward.

Executive U San Maung of Tamway USDA presented K 5,000 to U Htay Lwin.

Later, Daw Le Le Win Swe thanked them.

(10) Discussion at MMA

YANGON, 10 Sept - The 45th Myanmar Medical Conference Organizing Committee and Medicine & Medical Equipment Representatives will hold a discussion at Myanmar Medical Association building, Theinbyu Street, Mingala Taungnyunt Township, at 1 pm on 19 September.
