(1)   Secretary-1 receives Ambassador of Japan

YANGON, 1 Sept - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt Received Ambassador of Japan Mr. Kazuo Asakai at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 4 pm today.

Present were Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs U Nyunt Swe and U Khin Maung Win and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department.

(2)   Discussions on establishment of transport and communications infrastructure conducive to emergence of modern nation

YANGON, 1 Sept - The Central Supervisory Committee for Ensuring Secure and Smooth Transport held its third coordination meeting at Public Works Head Office at 1 pm today and it was addressed by Chairman of the Central Committee Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

(3)   38th cash donation for all-round renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON, 1 Sept - The 38th cash donation ceremony for all-round renovation of the Shwedagon Pagoda was held at the pagoda this afternoon.

Present were Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein, members of pagoda board of trustees, officials of religious associations and well-wishers.

Altogether 107 well wishers donated over K 5.769 million.

The deputy minister and officials accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to the well-wishers.

TheingiUkyaung Sayadaw of Chaukhtatgyi Phayagyitaik Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Nandawbatha delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained for good deeds.

(4)   Deputy Prime Minister receives Ambassador of Korea

YANGON, 1 Sept - Deputy Prime Minister Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Mr. Kyong Bo Choi at the commission office this morning.

Present were Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung and officials.

They discussed economic cooperation between Myanmar and ROK and investment.

(5)   Billboard to hail Annual General Meeting of USDA

YANGON, 1 Sept - A Myanmar health delegation led by Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein left here by air this morning to at tend the 16th Meeting of Health Ministers of Who Member Countries of South-East Asia Region in New Delhi, India, from 2 to 8 September.

Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein and Delegation were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, Ambassador of India Mr. Shyam Saran, Resident Representative of WHO Dr Klaus Wagner, Heads and officials of departments of the Ministry of Health and their families.

The delegation includes Director-General Dr Kyi Soe of Health Planning Department, Director-General Dr Kyaw Myint of Medical Science Department, Deputy Director-General Dr Wan Maung of Health Department and Director Dr Ohn Kyaw of Foreign Relations Division of the Ministry of Health.

(6)   Minister for Home Affairs receives Regional Representatives of ICRC

YANGON, 1 Sept - Minister of Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing received Regional Representatives Mr. Toni Pfarnner and Ms Gitte Gammelgaard of International Committee of the Red Cross at his office at 4 pm today.

Present were Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, Director-General of Myanmar Police Force, U Kyaw Tun, Director-General of Prisons Department, Dr Hla Bu, President of Myanmar Red Cross Society, and U Yan Myo Aung Thein, Head of Office of the ministry.

(7)   Chinese journalist delegation concludes visit

YANGON, 1 Sept - The journalist delegation of the People's Republic of China led by Vice-Chairman of Guangzhou Daily Mr. Lai Nanchi left here by air this morning at the end of its visit.

They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Managing Director U Tin Kha of News and Periodicals Enterprise, Director (News) U Hla Tun, Adviser U Maung Maung Nyo and officials of the PRC Embassy.

The delegation visited Defence Services Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road this Morning.

(8)   Minister inspects branches of No 2 Factory of MMTEI

YANGON, 1 Sept - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by deputy Minister U Thein Tun and officials, inspected Branch 2 of No 2 Factory of Myanma Machine Tool and Electrical Industries in Thamaing today.

In the meeting room of the factory, Managing Director Col Kyaw Win and officials of MMTEI briefed the minister on test production Quette machine of the ministry.

The minister gave instructions on requirements after inspecting the machines.  He also inspected other Products of the factory various fitness equipment, sports equipment and golf trolley and gave instructions to distribute them at reasonable prices.

The minister also watched quality demonstration of fire extinguishers manufactured by Branch 3 of the factory and gave instructions to market them as soon as possible.

YANGON, 1 Sept - Hailing the 1998 Annual General Meeting of Union Solidarity and Development Association, a ceremony to open a new office of Dagon Myothit (South) Township USDA was held in front of the office, 654/655, at the corner of Sibin and Thayetchaung Streets, Dagon Myothit(South) Township, this morning.

Present were Secretary of USDA(Central) Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, members of USDA Central Executive Committee Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing and Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister U Than Shwe, Secretary of Yangon Division USDA U Aye Myint and executives Chairman of Yangon East District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Aye Lwin, Secretary of Yangon East District USDA U Tin Hlaing and executives, chairman of Dagon Myothit (South) Township Peace and Development Council U Sein Nyunt and members, Township USDA Secretary U Zaw Oo, executives and members, E.C. members of Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Members of red Cross, Managing Director U Tun Myint Naing of Asia World Co and members of Board of Directors, Township USDA band, chairmen and members of Ward Peace and Development Councils and well-wishers.

Mayor U Ko Lay and Managing Director U Tun Myint Naing Formally opened the new office. Minister Col. Tin Hlaing spoke on the occasion.
