(1)   General Maung Aye and wife welcome back Secretary-1 and wife who attended 52nd Birthday ceremonies of His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam

YANGON, 17 July - At the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Khin Win Shwe attended the Ceremonies of the 52nd Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, arrived back here by air this afternoon.

The Secretary-1 and wife were welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in- Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye and wife, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife, Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin, Deputy Prime Minister Lt- Gen Tin Tun and wife, ministers, the Charge d'Affaires ai of Brunei Darussalam and Charge d Affaires ai of Singapore Mr William Chik Kam Weng.

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet and departmental officials also arrived back with the same flight.

(2)   Secretary-2 inspects construction of new buildings in Triyadana Nunnery and Aungyadanawinyaw Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Hline Township
 

YANGON, 17 July - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, accompanied by Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, deputy ministers, vice-mayor and officials, inspected construction of two-storey building for Triyadana Nunnery in Ward 4, Hline Township, at 11:45 am today.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and officials offered alms to member of Township Working Committee of the Sangha Presifling Sayadaw of Sasana Retkhita Kyaung Bhaddanta Labhindasara and members of the Sangha.

Chairman of Olympic Co Ltd U Aik Tun explained about the construction of two-storey building.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo gave instructions T Chairmen of Yangon West District and Hline Township Peace and Development Councils Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein and U Chit Ko Ko on planting of perennial trees in Triyadana Nunnery.

(3)   Minister for Home Affairs receives ICRC officials

YANGON, 17 July - Minister for Agriculture and irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, accompanied by managing Director of Myanma Agriculture Services U Tun Than and Managing Director of Myanma Sugarcane Enterprise U Myo Myint, visited paddy section of Yezin Agricultural Research Department of Pyinmana in Mandalay Division on 15 July morning.

The minister inspected new strains of hybrid corn and experimental hybrid corn fields, and called on officials to extensively distribute strains of hybrid corn to growers.

Altogether 12,000 baskets of quality seeds of Yezin-5 hybrid corn were distributed last year, and this year, 24,000 baskets are targeted to be distributed.

The minister and party inspected products of Yezin Agricultural Research Department, and gave instructions.

Then, the minister met students of the University of Agriculture, who were carrying out voluntary sanitation. Later, at the Central Sugarcane Research Farm, officials reported on production and distribution of new strains of sugarcane.

The minister inspected hybridization of sugarcane, experimental cultivation of quality strain of hybrid sugarcane, sugarcane nurseries and laboratory.  He gave instructions on distribution of quality strains of sugarcane necessary for the sugarcane cultivable land to be extended on completion of sugarcane factories, carrying out research and dissemination of agricultural techniques.

The project director reported on Taungzinaye Sugarcane Factory Project to be implemented in Lewe Township and Myohla Sugarcane Factory Project being implemented in Myohla Township.

The minister and party inspected Myohla Sugarcane Factory Project.

Next, they inspected Ottwin Sugarcane Factory Project, and gave instructions on timely completion of the project and durability. Afterwards, they went to Yetho Dam in Ottwin Township, and inspected the water inflow and availability of water.

Later, they inspected the model 100-acre paddy field in Kanyutkwin, Phyu Township.

Then, the minister met members of Division and Township Agricultural Coordination Committees, and gave instructions.

(4)   Ground-breaking ceremony for Drug Abuse Control Museum

YANGON, 17 July - A ground-breaking ceremony for construction of Drug Abuse Control Museum was held at the site, corner of Hanthawady Street and Kyundaw Street in Kamaryut Township, this morning.

Present were Chairman of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin, Secretary of CCDAC Director-General of Myanma Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, Head of the Department of the Office of Strategic Studies Col Kyaw Thein, directors- general of departments under the Ministry of Home Affairs, deputy directors- general, senior police officers and guests.

Col Tin Hlaing, U Kyaw Tin, Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, Col Kyaw Thein and Chairman of Yuzana Construction Co U Htay Myin drove stakes in.

Then, confetti was showered to mark the successful completion of the groundbreaking ceremony.

(5)   Minister for CPI receives GM of Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance (Yangon Branch)

YANGON, 17 July - Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin received Yangon Branch General Manager Mr Satoshi Ichihara of Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance Co Ltd of Japan at his office at 10 am today.

They discussed postal saving and Insurance successfully being conducted in Japan and to hold workshop on the insurance in Myanmar with Japan expertise.

Present were Managing Director Col Maung Maung Tin of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications and officials.

(6)   Minister for Commerce receives Director of Ascot

YANGON, 17 July - Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than received Director (Commercial) Vandara Din and party of Ascot Company based in Geneva, Switzerland, at his office at 4 pm today.

They discussed mutual interest in economic matter. Present were advisers, Director-General U Khin Maung Oo of Directorate of Trade and officials.

(7)   Minister for Information receives Ambassadors of Egypt, LPDR

YANGON, 17 July - Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung received Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt Dr Farouk Riad Hassan Mabrouk at his office at 2 pm today.

Similarly, he received Ambassador of Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Ly Bounkham, who is also Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, at 3 pm.

Present were Director-General U Khin Maung Htay of Myanma Radio and Television Department, Director-General Lt-Col Chit Naing of Information and Public Relations Department, Managing Director U Tin Kha of News and Periodicals Enterprise, Managing Director Col Bo Kyi of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise, Chief Editor U Kyaw Min of the New Light of Myanmar Daily and Head of Office U Khin Maung Myint at MTRD.

(8)   Leading Committee for Performing Arts Competitions holds second coord meeting

YANGON, 17 July - The Leading Committee for Organizing the Sixth Myanma Traditional Performing Arts Competitions held its second coordination meeting at the National Theatre on Myomakyaung Street at 4:00 pm today.

Chairman of the Leading Committee Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than addressed the meeting.

Present also were Vice Chairman of the Leading Committee Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt and members of the Leading Committee, chairmen and members of the working committee and subcommittees, doyen artistes, chairmen and officials of Myanmar Thabin Asiayon, Myanmar Music Asiayon, Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon, Myanmar Artistes and Artisans Asiayon and Myanmar Red Cross Society and guests.

The chairmen spoke on the occasion.  Then, the chairmen of the working committee and subcommittees reported on work done.

The meeting ended with the concluding remarks by the chairmen.

(9)   Fisheries Department, entrepreneurs meet

YANGON, 17 July - A meeting of the Fisheries Department and entrepreneurs and companies dealing with cold storage and fish and prawn processing enterprises was held at the department on Sinmin Street in Ahlon Township this morning.

Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein gave instructions.  Deputy Minister U Aung Thein explained matters related to quality control and exports.

The entrepreneurs and companies held discussions with Director-General of FD U Soe Win, presenting their requirements.

(10)   Border Areas and National Races Project Implementation coordinated

YANGON, 17 July - Public Relations Sub-committee for Development of Border Areas and National Races Project Implementation held its coordination meeting at the meeting hall of Information and Public Relations Department on Pansodan Street this morning, attended by Chairman of the Sub-committee Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein.

Present were Secretary of the Sub-committee Director-General Lt-Col Chit Naing of IPRD, members Managing Director U Tin Kha of News and Periodicals Enterprise, Managing Director Col Bo Kyi of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise, Director-General U Khin Maung Htay of Myanma Radio and Television Adviser to the PPE U Myo Thant, other Sub-committee members and guests.

The deputy minister called for coordination and cooperation among the members of the Sub-committee in implementing the development of border areas and national races, for efforts to achieve success of work.

Secretary Lt-Col Chit Naing briefed the meeting on decisions of previous meeting and situation of implementing the work and Director Lt-Col Than Htay of Department for Development of Border Areas and National Races on progress of the Sub-committee.

Members of the Subcommittee and officials of MRTV, IPRD, NPE, PPE, MMPE and Fine Arts Department discussed measures to be undertaken by the Subcommittee and the work done and future tasks.

Later, the meeting ended with remarks by the deputy minister.
